Azzaro Pour Homme Intense (2015)

Azzaro Pour Homme Intense EDP opens with a moderate to a strong projection of sweet, spicy, and boozy notes. The opening is bold, delectable, masculine, and elegant. The cinnamon, brandy, and tonka bean are the prominent opening notes. The cinnamon is very sweet, warm, powdery, spicy, and delectable. Next to it is the faint sweet tonka bean that is just starting to develop; it presents itself as a sweetening touch. The brandy is the second featured note, a very inviting boozy, fruity, sweet, with a floral touch and citrus zest note. As time passes, the tonka develops, acquiring its characteristic sweet, vanilla, caramel-like, with a nutty hint accord. The amber does surface adding its resinous sweet, warm, dry, and honeyed accord. The vetiver is a support note, a faint green touch that remains in the far back of the fragrance. The fragrance has a simple opening to dry down transition; the opening features the cinnamon and brandy above all notes; they are sharp, crisp, and feel moist. They remain by themselves for a moment. Towards the dry down, this sharpness smooths out under the amber's effects, and the tonka boosts up, adding more of its resinous, dry, vanilla, and caramel-like sweetness. Once Azzaro Pour Homme Intense EDP has reached its full dry down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, sweet-spicy cinnamon, boozy brandy, resinous amber, and sweet tonka bean fragrance with faint green accords. BLIND-BUY: Yes, but only if you are familiar with its main notes. • Azzaro Pour Homme Ginger Lover EDT is a very good, mild, sweet, spicy ginger, green vetiver, and lime fragrance. • Bentley for Men Intense EDP is a superb, strong, boozy rum, smokey incense, woody, leathery, resinous, spicy, and green fragrance. • Bvlgari Man in Black features boozy, leather, tobacco and spicy accords, a great scent. • Carolina Herrera 212 VIP EDT is a very good, mild, boozy vodka, spicy ginger, fruity, leather, and woody fragrance. • Carolina Herrera CH Prive EDT is a fantastic, intense, whiskey, leather, sweet tonka, spicy cardamom, resinous benzoin, and woody fragrance. • Diesel Only The Brave Extreme EDT is OK, mild, a very sweet, resinous, tonka, styrax, leather, and labdanum fragrance. • Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Intense is a very good, dark, sweet, spicy, leather, smoke, and almond fragrance. • Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male EDT is a good, intense, sweet tonka, lavender, spicy, cinnamon, mint, and resinous fragrance. • Kilian Black Phantom EDP is a fantastic, intense, delicious coffee, boozy rum, sweet caramel, and dark chocolate fragrance. • Killian Single Malt EDP is a great, sweet, vanilla, fruity plum, boozy whiskey-like, and resinous fragrance. • Lacoste Pour Homme EDT is good but very soft, sweet vanilla, rum, cinnamon, pink pepper, and plum fragrance. • Nasomatto Baraonda is a fantastic, intense, slightly sweet, boozy, whiskey, and woody fragrance. • Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Malt EDT is a fantastic, strong, sweet vanilla, boozy, malt, whiskey, resinous amber, and coffee fragrance. • Azzaro Pour Homme Intense EDP is an excellent, sweet-spicy cinnamon, boozy brandy, resinous amber, and sweet tonka bean fragrance. SUMMARY: A moderate projection, sweet-spicy cinnamon, boozy brandy, resinous amber, and sweet tonka bean fragrance with faint green accords. The fragrance feels ambery, bold, boozy, casual, comforting, delectable, dry, elegant, exotic, fruity, inviting, masculine, mild, moderate-quality, modern, natural, nicely-blended, playful, resinous, rich, seductive, simple, spicy, sweet, warm, wild, and very pleasant.

I bought this at duty free one day and only got to wear it once. Sadly, I had left it at a relatives' house. Fast forward two years later and I was reunited with this fragrance! Maybe my nose changed or I am more appreciative of notes in a fragrance, but damn this smells good! Azzaro Pour Homme Intense opens very bold and robust. Cinnamon, vetiver and brandy with a bit of that Original Azzaro pour homme mixed in for good measure. Now, the sweet spicy opening is interesting and it makes me think of chewing gum, a bit of Big Red to be precise. Just when the semi sweet boozy spiciness begins to get cloying the amber and tonka kick in to calm this fragrance down a bit. Now the cinnamon is the real star of the show in this scent. Cinnamon is a note I appreciate in fragrances but it all depends on how it is rendered and in this case it is rendered perfectly, as a talc style powder of cinnamon. This minor twist takes the Azzaro DNA and ratchets it up a bit giving it some youthfulness or an edge. This scent is very linear and performs a solid 4-5 hours. This scent comes off clean not too soapy but very much a fougere. APHI is not groundbreaking or original but it is quality and is something someone could wear regularly. This scent is fairly masculine and perfect for the 25 and up crowd. This can be worn anywhere or anytime and would work well in the office rotation. Think cold weather, fall or winter to early spring nights, would be perfect times to wear this fragrance. Give this scent a spray when you've got a case of nose fatigue and need to break away from something clean or citrusy.

Recently I was traveling and bought this guy with couple of other fragrances at Paris duty free. I have been missing my old friend APH as he is of a genre of Rive Gauche or PRPH etc. But reformulation almost killed it, I still love it, credit goes to their price on discounters like fragrancenet. I always carry a travel atomizer, so never run out. OK, so coming back to APHI EDP, huh... what a joke. It has better longevity when compared to new APH but may be just couple of hours, like 7 to 8 hours max while you can still sniff it on your skin at 10 hours if you really dig your nose. So, not bad but I was expecting more from an edp as far as sillage and projection goes along with longevity. However what makes me wonder is the note breakdown, how on earth it could smell that close to APH with just 5 notes? But the fact is that it is very close to APH, not exactly the same but carries the same vibe. And I love it just for that reason. So folks, if you are missing longevity on APH, try this, you'll love it. I recommend this young fellow, consider he is great grandson of monsieur APH. My observation:- 1. Smell: 5/10 nothing new that's why 2. Sillage: 7/10 3. Projection : 7.5/10 4. Longevity : 8/10 - around 8 hours 5. Value for money : 8/10 Love makes like live... keep sniffing!!!

I'm not sure why Azzaro made this a flanker when it could've survived on its own. It has nothing to do with original APH. The opening is a large dose of sweetness, almost cola-like. That's the worst part for me, but thankfully it transitions well and ultimately ends with an addictive drydown that to my nose, is reminiscent of D&G The One. My first test run didn't do well with performance; I was in and out all day and really didn't get much out of it. However, I've used it on less active occasions and it's held for a respectable amount of time. Don't expect a sillage monster, it's pretty tame which will make it a perfect date night or close encounter type of scent. Use it by the fireplace while drinking an old fashioned. Grade: B Update: I've been able to wear this more often now that temps are cold. Let me tell you, this one really shines in the cold temperatures and really gives you a sense of warmth with that cinnamon swirling around. Once the vetiver kicks in, it is simply irresistible. I got a respectable 6-7 hours yesterday from 3 sprays. Not beastly sillage, but enough personal sillage to get gentle wafts without placing my nose in my shirt collar. Not sure if this is discontinued, but Azzaro really blew it with the marketing and product design.

Ok, so I started my journey a little over 2 years ago, so don't be too harsh, please. With that said... how did I not smell this until today (when I basically blind bought it)? I've given Azzaro so many chances over these 2+ years. Chrome Pure was my first. Liked it, yes, but didn't love it. It reminded me of several others that seemed to do more. The OG Wanted & The Most Wanted. Liked them? Yes. Did they wow me? Not really. The flankers from the PH Line, several are/were quite good but didn't really seem like something I wanted on me. But this!! This one, is different. A bit boozy, nice & spicy, while still being refined & gentlemanly. This isn't a little boy's scent. It obviously smells nothing like it, but vibe wise, I put this in the same category I put John Varvatos' Vintage... something I call "cool uncle" vibes. It's mature, but not stuffy. It's fun but not exactly playful or youthful. If I were to create one of the played out "Holy Grail/Keep 10" Designers lists, this would have to be on there. It feels like the father of Bentley Intense & Burberry London, if those both had very different mothers (if that makes any sense at all).
