Cypress Cedar

Another solid frag from Banana Republic's Icon collection, and very different from the rest of the line. It has a combination of green-ness and earthiness going on. It's not in-your-face with attention grabbing sweetness. It's got a round bitter citrus and fruit quality from the bitter orange and rhubarb, and that green earthiness from the cypress and cedar. Very pleasant. I've never smelled TdH, so I can't speak to those comparisons. I wanted to get this in part because I was actually curious to compare it to "Blue Cedar and Cypress", one of my favorite frags from Cremo. Just going by the names, you'd think they would smell similar. The truth is they are very different. BC&C has a very sharp, almost harsh, combination of lemon leaf and cypress. Still quite appealing, but very in-your-face. Banana Republic Cypress Cedar is much more "laid back" I would say. Still very appealing but maybe a bit more subtle, more round. Edit: on furthering wearing, I actually feel it resembles another Cremo fragrance: "Distiller's Blend" aka "Reserve Blend". Distiller's Blend is sweeter and more boozy with a bourbon accord, but it has a similar spicy round citrus opening and the clean but earthy vetiver drydown. What's fascinating is that I've seen Distiller's Blend also compared to Terre d'Hermes. Both this Banana Republic frag and the Cremo frag are favorites of mine, so perhaps I should try TdH. I would say this is a great year-round frag, except maybe for extreme heat and extreme cold. It's more of a daytime frag for me, or for casual evening hangouts. If you're really going out to a party or on a date, I might pick a different scent. The best way to buy Banana Republic frags is to scoop them up for $20 at rack stores. Cypress Cedar seems to be a bit rarer of the bunch, as it took me several months to find one. But it did pop up eventually at my local Marshalls. If you want to save a little money that's how I would recommend purchasing it.

I just continue to fall in love with this line . To my nose the majority of the line are almost spot on dupes. And yes I test them on my skin side by side with the OGs . This is a definite Terre dupe. But as mentioned on here , it is a tamer version. But anyone that smells this will automatically say TDH . I feel the Hermes is a bit more orange and bitter. This does have a tad bit more sharp cypress probably to up the bitterness and get it closer . But I found this to be great. Bright and bitter tree pines, sour butter orange. Rhubarb to bring it down and add a cool freshness. The vetiver and cedar rounding everything out. Very spring time fragrance but I think it's pretty versatile. Performance isn't too bad. It's a $20 2.5oz fragrance that is a very good dupe. It has to lack somewhere. But it's not expensive so an extra 2 or 3 sprays to refresh every 4 hours is not a big deal. It projects a little for about an hour and a half but is does stick on to the skin for a good 4 hours. I applied this about 3 1/2 hours ago and it's just starting to fade. But you can still smell the citrus and cypress . You don't need to think about it , it's still noticeable. I have to give this an 8/10 .

I am a big fan all the TDH & flankers and have or have had most of them. The comparisons being made here are very valid. With your nose in it you can’t deny that the bitter orange and vetiver are very similar to TDH. That being said it’s got a less dirty orange with hint of minty lemon opening. The vetiver is very similar to Hermes but overall stays alittle sweeter and zestier. As it dries it gets away from the comparison alittle as it stays brighter with the rhubarb notes and green mossy cedar. It is it’s own stand alone fragrance and not a clone but to try and describe it without using TDH as comparable fragrance would be a disservice to readers. This is a great scent that’s kind of quaint but can be over sprayed to compensate. I love how mature and bright it is at same time and the rhubarb is very unique. Seems to have a short life so far but can to be the case with new bottles. I would say this is better than TDH if it lasted longer. Its a little more youthful and has a brighter profile. Great blind buy if you like vetiver scents for sure. Definitely is more masculine and mature side of things for cool weather and rainy days. 8.5/10 overall

This starts off a kind of bitter green citrus that immediately morphs into a cypress note; pink pepper is subtle but present, and in the mid/base it’s mostly cedar and that classy musky banana republic linen. Really fresh and classy. I’d take this over TdH any day. Only superficially similar to TdH. I see how the citrus-cypress can smell a little similar to the citrus in TdH, and it’s shares the pepper-patchouli-cedar-vetiver notes, but in this, the citrus fades into a nice fresh cypress very quickly. It’s so clean, it’s almost soapy. The woody notes are more cedary with less vetiver/patchouli and more importantly to my nose, less ambrox super (don’t argue with me, TdH has Amber). The fact that I can shower this off (unlike TdH) without having skin that stinks of synthetic amber is a huge plus. I’m not great at picking out rhubarb, but I assume Rhubofix is the fixative here giving it some longevity and lending to the rhubarb note.

This is a beautiful scent. It smells really nice in the air. The sillage must be pretty good, because I got a compliment about 8 hours after application, and the person was several feel away. Initially I saw this as more masculine, but the more I wear it I definitely could see a woman being able to wear this too. I generally prefer more masculine scents, so that's probably the only thing keeping this from being a 10/10 for me. I would rate this an 8/10 for myself. Update: This is a 10/10 for me now. The more I wear it, the more I like it and the more interesting it becomes. It just works so well on my skin, even when it's hot. I think lately I'm noticing more of the base notes/masculine notes like the patchouli, musk, and vetiver. And it is still my most complimented fragrance. I think I like this better than Terre d'Hermes.

One of my favorites along with Neroli Woods & 78 Vintage Green. I think that Cypress Cedar is the more masculine of the bunch with a nice woodsy drydown. You catch small whiffs of the Vetiver/Patchouli combo along with the Cypress. Yes, it kind of has that Terre D’Hermes tinge but, very, very feint. The opening has a nice zesty kick that is bitter yet fresh and clean smelling. Not overpowering and definitely not a projection monster with longevity that is 5 hours at best with 4 of them being a skin scent. But, for under $20 it’s a great deal for a nice casual/run around kind of a fragrance. To be quite honest, the whole Icon Series Line up is worthy of a pick up as long as your picking them up discounted. I’d never pay the retail prices for them. Bottom line is they’re good quality scents for a very small cash outlay....

I own TDH parfum, and of course, this instantly reminded me of that. The dry down does take a little turn, though. This contains real cypress absolute (I know because I work with that perfume chemical). TDH parfum has more oakmoss and likely little or no cypress. This also contains a fruity note that TDH doesn't, which is pretty pleasant. Some are calling it rhubarb, and I can get that. It doesn't smell synthetic at all, and if this is cheaper than the TDH parfum, I'd just get this. I haven't tested the performance on this one (but the Parfum doesn't perform satisfactorily for me). I definitely don't think it smells similar to either Eau Givree or Eau Intense Vetiver.

Great scent especially if you can find it at tj maxx or Marshall’s as they sell it for around 20$. Certainly not a direct clone of TdH but definitely falls into the same catagory. Almost like a fresher more versatile version of TdH with a more lemon type citrus and mint replacing the dirty orange. I’m not sure if it just wears better off my skin than other peoples but I have to disagree with the comments about it having terrible performance. While it isn’t mind blowing by any means I get average projection and longevity. Overall: 8.5/10 if you can find it for cheap. If you plan to buy from discount websites (around 50-55$) I’d consider saving up a bit more for TdH

Wow, I love this way more than I expected. It was a blind buy mainly because of the cheap $20 price point, so my expectations were low. It's quite wonderful. The opening is just like the name - all cypress and cedar, and it smells very natural. I have cypress tress on my property and this captures their slightly sweet evergreen aroma perfectly. The dry down leaves a warmer less pungent and lovely woodsy scent. I get an admirable 8+ hours of longevity from it, though the projection is not very strong. I probably wouldn't have loved this scent back in my teens and 20s, but for mature guys this is a very masculine and confident scent. Love it.

I reviewed this awhile back before I was familiar with Terre d'Hermes and unaware that Cypress Cedar imitates it. I really liked it on its own as a crisp classy evergreen scent that's very refined and enjoyable. Turns out it's a darn good take on TDH too. TDH is a little more complex thanks to a more bitter orange rind note and an earthy element that's lacking in Cypress Cedar, and TDH lasts longer. But Cypress Cedar is still really good and is perhaps a tad less challenging without that earthy edge the flint note gives TDH. If you want the TDH experience on a budget, this stuff is a no-brainer. Kudos.

Great minty aromatic. It does remind me of TDH but is not as potent. Like if TDH decided to makean EDC. Refreshing cooling fragrance that is perfect for warm daytime wear. I bought this in September 2020 and it has aged nicely in that time and has grown more potent (although still far from beast mode) I pick up all the notes listed but I don't get much musk. Opens with orange, mint and pepper. The Rhubarb isn't prominent but the pepper sticks around into the drydown. Drydown is pepper, mint, cedar and vetiver. Good stuff

Of recent Banana Republic releases the individual notes in this one are more identifiable but they work so darn well together. It is a "classic" genre but a beautiful new composition that is more earthy than anything -- the outdoors in a (full) bottle (worthy scent). It has an evergreen and effervescent nature. I usually get the bitter orange fairly strongly accompanying the woody accords but that also reminds me of a sharp anise at times and the whole fragrance has some similarities to Aqua Amara... Love at first bite!

This one is really good. It smells like a nice tamed bitter orange and dries down to a woody scent. The longevity is fair at a few hours, which isn't bad for a freshie. Sillage is moderate but that's good a lot of the time. Safe for work and closed in environments. All of the Banana Republic scents I have tried are just as good as the more expensive fragrances out there. This is a very pleasant scent and highly recommend if you see it at Burlington and consider getting it.

I really like the scent. It’s a sweet, minty, clean woodsy scent that, in my opinion, is certainly unisex. The price is also pretty phenomenal. I will say that the silage and longevity are not great however. They aren’t so bad as to discourage purchasing, but i’d say it lasts 4-5 hours on my skin and can only really be noticed in intimate ranges. All things considered, definitely a good buy. If you turn out to dislike it, you didn’t spend much.

I have not tried Chanel Bleu de Chanel but I've tried the Declassified version, Cedar Bleu and this is really similar but stronger than that dupe. It is a good deal for an eau de toilette although it becomes a skins scent after around 30 minutes. I picked it up for $12.99 at Burlington.

I wore this today and man I love this one! I’ve been so impressed with banana republic! They put out niche quality products at a great price. This one reminds of a black licorice vibes it’s very nice. I definitely need to try Terre dhermes after liking this so much. 8/10

Lighter and brighter version of TDH. One of those perfumes that can be worn any time, and it won't smell out of place. You could douse yourself in this and still not offend anyone. For $20, This is a good addition to any collection even if you already own TDH.

A very slightly sweeter of Terre D Hermes EDT. Mind blown !! What a great fragrance! I leaving a bottle of this in the office to spray to refresh mid day during the summer. The BR fragrances have really impressed me. Crazy value and great scent profiles

This is one of my favorite colognes! I'm from Washington State so it reminds me of being out in the evergreen filled forests on a rainy morning, just beautiful. Banana Republic is way underrated especially at the price point 💯

I love this scent, doesn't love me very much though. The Cypress is strong it fragrance is made for a suit. The headache it gives me (light) sucks ass, but I love it still.......

Mass appealing clone of TDH parfum. If you have one, you don't need the other. I found a bottle staring at me while on line at Burlington Coat Factory while my kids bickered over anything and everything. I didn't look up notes or check out fragrantica first. I just picked it up, looked at the price tag on the bottom that read $19.99 and put it in my cart. I almost forgot I had it, but when I got home, I gave my arm a quick hit and 💥: the most easily recognizable DNA in the fragrance game. Also one of the most delicious. And what they seem to have done is exactly what many of us feel TDH has been trying to do over the years: move towards a more mainstream frag. It has a less rindy orange in the opening and a cleaner vetiver at the heart and base. It's like the most mass appealing version of one of the best fragrances of all time... And it costs 20 bones??? You can't fault them for it. Some will complain that it's boring, or too tame, or some other ridiculously snobbish shit. Don't listen to it. Who cares whether a fragrance is boring and doesn't require an advanced degree in smelling stuff to appreciate it? When was the last time someone attractive from the sex of your fancy gave you a compliment on "the complexity and degree of challenge your fragrance exudes"? This smells like a boss. But you can get it on an intern's budget. That's all you need to know. Test the real thing if you want. The parfum and eau givre are slightly better, but not enough to warrant the 400% price increase.

Ok, I'm typically a masculine, woody/green floral fragrance guy and enjoy freshies that smell natural. I dislike ambroxan laden fragrances and I'm not a fan of heavy tonka or vanilla. My signature scent is Uomo Moschino but also like something as simple as Azarro Chrome or even Claiborne Sport or Varvatos Artisan Pure. But ... I used to enjoy some of the 70s powerhouse fragrances, however, I now find them too heavy and overpowering ... for the most part. I do enjoy spicy and woody scent profiles, too ... but I often find it difficult to enjoy it enough to really want to wear it. I read many reviews on this Banana Republic fragrance and was intrigued by the Terre d'Hermes comparison. I liked it at one time, but again, I thought that even with only a couple of sprays ... it was still too rough and overwhelming. Ok ... for the actual review of my new Banana Republic Cypress Cedar ... I think that if you read another review as posted by "Bear Claws" on 6/3/26 ... you will find an accurate and very thorough review of this EXCELLENT PERFUME by Banana Republic. As for me ... I give it a strong 8/10 rating!

Banana Republic Cypress Cedar is a new acquisition, a 2018 release from the Icon Collection, found for about $20 at Marshalls. Cypress Cedar was released alongside Linen Vetiver and Neroli Woods as the sophomore trio of releases in the collection that followed the initial quintet in 2017, and all three of these releases are very agreeable and fresh, but I’d not felt particularly inclined to acquire any until seeing CC yesterday while out shopping, so I’ll have to retry the other two. Cypress Cedar isn’t entirely woody, as its name suggests, but there’s a relatively realistic sharpness from both woods, combined with a healthy mix of citruses and musk. It’s definitely more interesting than most freshies available at roughly the same price while still being agreeable and fresh enough to wear pretty much all the time, albeit with moderate performance. Overall, I’d certainly recommend checking it out, particularly if you find it at a discounter for such a low price. CC is priced at $33 on FragranceNet and it’s still worthwhile at that price, but at $20, it’s really a great value. 7 out of 10

#1140 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Got this as a decant from FragrancesLine. I get that some are finding this reminds them of the "Terre d'Hermes" EDP and parfum. I gave those away a year ago. They were okay, but I couldn't get the resemblance to "Lemon Pledge" (the EDP) and "Old English Lemon Furniture Oil" (the parfum) out of my mind when smelling them. I much prefer the greener, less citrusy, less furniture-polish-smelling composition of this scent. It's fresher, crisper, more outdoorsy with the moss and cypress notes, and quality-wise, it's an acceptable performer, though not impressive. It's really in the same vein as Jacques Bogart's green scents, "Bogart", "One Man Show" and "One Man Show Emerald Edition." The Bogart scents are half the price of this, and though EDTs, they perform as well as this. I have them all already (some of the handful of EDTs I've bothered to keep), so I won't be getting a full bottle of this. Car pool, elevator, small office safe. Versatile and inoffensive for any use or season. But this isn't going to be anyone's signature scent.

Great scent, about 75% similar to TdH. The cedar, cypress, and mint notes are what differentiates it, at least to my nose. On the flipside, TdH has a dirtier more earthy undertone compared to this. Also, try not to be confused by the main accords section, as this is far from a traditional woody fragrance. The sharp cypress and cedar notes are from the leaves of the trees, rather than the actual wood or bark of the tree. If you've ever plucked the stringy leaves of a cedar tree, you'll know that it smells different from the actual wood. Mix in a medium dose of bitter orange and you have the primary composition of this fragrance - the remaining notes are barely noticeable. Unfortunately, the performance is just plain bad. I had to spray 2x my usual amount for any sillage and it still disappeared after roughly 3 hours. This would've probably replaced TdH in my collection if it weren't for that fact...

A biting bitter orange and peppery mint captures the attention in the open. As the bitterness subsides the tanginess of the rhubarb comes through in the heart (if I didn't know it was rhubarb I would thought vague tangy fruit). Interestingly I didn't actually get any wood scents until deeper into the dry down, where vetiver comes through before any cypress and certainly before the musky cedar about 10-15 minutes in. Nose to skin that bitter orange does manage to stick around fairly deep into the dry down; I didn't expect that. The comparison is Terre d'Hermès and that seems fair; I have a TDH dupe (Rasasi Fattan Pour Homme EDP) which is in the same vein, but that is not presently as wearable as Cypress Cedar is. Afternoon refresher feels like the right time for this type of fragrance.

While yes, this is in the same family and vein as TDH....this is quite the different take on it. While it does share the orange, peppery, vetiver vibes ...this is quite cleaner and more easier to wear. I personally dislike TDH, and never bothered to buy a bottle because it just didn't suit my tastes. This was a worrisome blind buy, as many compare it to TDH. But......this is BETTER than TDH in my opinion. Quite the pleasant surprise. Still that same "classy gentleman" vibe, but just cleaned up and a bit more modern and not "dated" smelling. For $19.99 for the 2 oz bottle.....it's a no brainer. This is light-years far better than the Lattafa & Armaf junk that's out there.

You could say that this is a refined version of TDH. Now where this differs from the above is that it concentrates mainly on the vetiver and woodsy side but it never comes across as harsh or too dry. Here it's smooth and creamy for the duration with a touch of tangy sweetness from the rhubarb and citrus combo. If you are looking for the bitter orange opening then this is probably not for you and again the pepper is almost completely toned down to a background note. I like it - it's like a sweet and sour fragrance with a creamy vetiver depth that lingers on my skin for a good 5 to 6 hours and could see me reaching for this in the warmer weather.

This is a real surprise. It definitely fits the TdH profile, but the vetiver is better on my skin. This vetiver performs more like the ones used in Acqua di Parma’s Colonia family, whereas the Hermes vetiver turns to sweaty stink on me. Also, this is probably the best performer in the Icon line, of which I have several and have tested most of them. Because of this, I kept my 10ml decant of TdH and gave my bottle to my nephew. I like this better and so far I use it when I choosing between AdP colonia, essenza or futura. What I did today was wear Essenza this morning and did an afternoon refresh with this. What a great deal overall.

I also agree with the TdH comparisons, although this is a bit more sharp and linear on me. The longevity is moderate with fairly low projection. I discovered that layering this with BR's Vintage Green 78 works very well. The green and sweeter fig notes in that, round out the dryer, woodier notes in Cypress Cedar. Finally, I've discovered that Harry's Stone body wash has drawn favorable comparisons for its TdH notes, and also layers well with Cypress Cedar. This is a safe and inexpensive blind buy IF you enjoy TdH!

Probably my favorite of the more recent BR offerings. Where Linen Vetiver and Vintage Green fall flat on longevity and sillage, Cypress Cedar shines. Very assertive cypress and cedar combo off the top, it's a real treat. Longevity is excellent for a low key freshie--still going strong 6h in (nearly gone ~10h in though). Comparisons to TdH are only there if you're looking for them. The vetiver in TdH is quite different than CC's cypress/cedar combination, and I get very little citrus off the top of CC unlike TdH.

I’m a simple guy . The opening for me had me on the fence . It almost was as if the bitter orange that I was getting was a little much . I was considering the possibility that I may have made a terrible blind buy . And then the dry down came . It gave me a very woodsy floral feel that had just enough masculine appeal . I can’t stop sniffing my arm . I will say this fragrance is not a game changing show stopper , but it definitely is a decent pickup imo.

Labor Day, up north visiting a great someone-or-other - it’s raining and all the adults are inside, so you’ve taken to a tree fort hidden at edge of the yard. Your older cousin showed you two summers ago, but now he’s a teenager and you’re alone pretending to be a sentry on this abandoned frontier. Next summer, you stay inside when it rains. Notes: cedar, cypress, moss

Got this on a blind buy purchase, the price tag got me! But gotta say it definitely brightens up my day. The freshness and clean smell really seals the deal on a successful blind buy. Wore it to work today and already have gotten two compliments. Banana Republic fragrances get the job done! This will be a spring/summer staple for me this year.

I blind bought this from Marshall's, and it was love at first sniff. I have not smelled the Hermes though, so I cannot compare them. I think it is for an older crowd, 30+ years old. I'm noticing that younger people prefer the louder, fruity smells, and this is NOT that. It is fresh, clean, and collected.

I prefer this over TdH. It smells cleaner and more mass appealing. Didn't really care for it at first. Gave a bottle to my brother and kept one to myself, though I wasn't impressed. But then I smelled it on him the next day and thought it smelled amazing. 7/10

Its literally a Terre d'Hermès clone that has a cheaper price tag... Absolutely a banger for a buck if you want a citrus/cedar scent... I will definitely be wearing this during spring and summer... Great blind buy for my collection!

An extremely nice take on the TDH dna. Not a clone or a dupe. It does its own thing. Still, it bears a striking resemblance. Not as nice as the OG, but performance is comparable and for the price you really could do much much worse.

This does smell nice and earthy, but is NOT a TDH clone...IMO. It IS very similar to Zara's Tiveden which also has that citrus/earthy vibe. Does have some longevity issues.

💯 Terre d’Hermes EDT clone. Don’t ever make a scent called “Cypress Cedar” that smells like bitter citrus - that’s just disrespectful.

Definitely a TDH inspo. Not bad but you can get THD for pretty cheap on discounters so why not just do that?

Excellent bang for your buck that’s been my daily driver for the past few days. Strong citrus and peppery notes at the top, along with strong vetiver throughout. Immediately comes across as a familiar masculine, professional scent. TdH DNA for sure. Do NOT judge this (or TdH) on the smell up close from the nozzle—it smells awful that way, and really needs to breathe to shine. Longevity and sillage aren’t as bad as something like Zara Vibrant Leather, but aren’t great either. Definitely needs to be reapplied a couple times throughout the day.

I got this knowing that: A) It has cypress, a note I'm not too fond of B) It has bitter orange, a note I'm not too fond of C) It is similar to Terre D'Hermes I got it because I wanted to complete the Icon collection (the original 8). I figured I might not like it, and I really don't like it that much but that's just because I dislike the notes. It's a good quality fragrance, and you will definitely enjoy it if this is your kind of thing. Prob the only one I would swap other than Oud Mosaic.

I tried to get this as a more masculine version of Maison louis Marie no 2, and this smells some what like a good layer. its very fresh, green, woody. I have not smelled TDH. This was a blind buy for me, since it was cheap and i had 2 day shipping from amazon. Im just sad that its very weak, and does not project as much as I wanted to. Especially cause it does smell good.

Ok fresh vetiver, but poor performance. I can't see any similarities with TdH (aside of vetiver, which is contained in 1000's of fragrances). A pass for me. Spring, 20+
