Stunned and sad that this one doesn't get nearly the amount of love and attention it deserves. Woody, but a "bright" zingy, citrusy woody fragrance that is absolutely perfect for summer. So many fragrances such as Cool Water, Bvlgari Agva Amara, etc.....this beats those by a long shot! It's absolutely perfect! No notes stand out...it's beautifully blended. Price couldn't BE more reasonable. The bottle is modern as the name suggests, attractive without being gaudy, and same goes for the smell. It doesn't scream out anything but it certainly will get you compliments with it's refined, classy yet refreshing scent! It's woody, it's citrusy, it's CLEAN! I'm so sad this doesn't and probably will never get the love and attention it deserves. And yes...this is BLIND BUY SAFE! It's perfect and versatile for a huge range of ages. I'd say a 20 year old can wear this, as well as a 50 year old man. It's perfect for the gym, perfect for a date, perfect for cuddling and staying in, perfect for a lunch date, this one is just so pleasant and clean. Versatile as can be! Scent Itself - 9/10 Performance - (My only semi-complaint.) Longevity - About 4 hours. Sillage - About 2 feet. If you spray 9 or 10 sprays...you can get 3-4 feet of throw. However, price is very reasonable so I don't mind reapplying half way through my day. Overall Rating - 8.5/10 BEAUTIFUL MODERN SCENT!! Packaging and the name is a true representation of how it smells. I'm in love. Thank you Banana Republic! My #1 Banana Republic fragrance so far! A true hidden gem!

This is good juice. Average performance. Goes to skin scent pretty fast despite overspraying. How it wish it was stronger and can last longer. Good that it's inexpensive and cheap so can just keep spraying. Also this should not be released in 2014. The original modern M should be out already in the late 90s somewhere 1996/1997. This is a newer version release definitely. But it still smells damn nice. It's the incense I am getting and I like. I see quite a lot of reviews saying it's similar to Dylan Blue, yea abit of it not not close at all, just a vibe. But I seem to be getting the same incense as from ADG profumo with the same vibe and dna there. Not sure why no one mentioned it. But nonetheless it smells really good and it's a good frag vintage 90s style but still modern for anyone even the youngsters to matured man.

This is one of those that gives me hope in the cheaper designers. Many only ever think Abercrombie in this realm, but this cologne deserves another look. The opening is very very harsh, trust me and just let it sit. It will all play out. After about 5 minutes, you get a beautiful juniper and soapy smell that borders shower gel in a classy way, if that makes sense. Drydown gives me vetiver and musk with that soapy undertone. Absolutely a beautiful scent. It took me awhile to fall for this one. I just never ever liked it, but then like a light switch being flipped.. I'm in love. Gonna wear the hell out of this one now. Longevity isnt good, silage is normal but nothing to brag about. Overall, this is just a great scent. Give it time and please dont let the opening fool you... this is incredible.

This one is really good. I have had it a few months and at first I didn't think it was anything special. I recently sprayed it again and it's really good. I'm really starting to notice that most scents need a little bit of time to truly experience them. Starts off aquatic and you can smell the grapefruit and juniper then as it dries down the incense starts to come through. It's inoffensive and clean smelling. Not over the top loud but very pleasant. Super cheap at rack stores and like all the other Banana Republic scent's they are just well blended and smell great. Doesn't leave a big trail but it smells good for a good few hours. I recommend it for sure.

Picked this up at Burlington for $10-13 range for a 30ml. At first I thought was decent, nothing mind blowing, simple gym frag. I started layering with Molecule 02 (Ambroxan) before the gym. Then mixed 50/50 blend of this with ambroxan in a 5ml travel bottle. Now it may be my favorite gym fragrance of all time. Pleasant, light, airy non offensive. I will definitely buy another bottle. If you find a 30ml for <$13 just buy it. You won’t be blown away, but you will be surprised at how much you reach for it when you just want to smell good, but not like you are wearing some strong frag.

I am wearing this now and really have grown to appreciate it over the past month. If Tommy is a college kid, Modern Is that same kid hitting middle age. The sweeter, fresher notes take on a more bittersweet and deeper quality. Imagine walking outside on a warm fall evening, smelling pungent juniper, sweet drying grass and a the clean scent of a cool stirring breeze. For me, this is early Fall in a bottle.

Ok, this is a more mature scent, it’s not a bubble gummy sweet fragrance. It has a strong citrus opening, but the Juniper comes in quick and sticks around. It settles down with the incense but juniper hangs around. This is a classy scent and is more suited to an older crowd 40+ but someone younger could pull it off dresses up. This is a good all around scent. But for a more mature crowd.

Genuinely one of the most inoffensive, pleasant smells you’ll ever smell. Woody and Fruity and Floral. I find it quite unisex. But it’s a pure skin scent. You’re gonna get little to no projection. It’s also probably for a younger crowd, but it’s so inoffensive that anybody can pull it off. If you can get it cheap and you know what to expect, I’d highly recommend it.

really enjoy this very clean, elegant scent. a lot to like here, from the fresh opening to the clean dry down...unfortunately, like a lot of Banana republic fragrances, goes to a skin scent relatively quickly.

To my nose, it smells like Montblanc Individual and Versace Dylan Blue combine I love it.

A dirt cheap pick up if you know where to shop. I’ve seen it at both BR outlets and rack stores, sub $20 for a 100ml and like below, around $8 for the 30ml. I hate using the word “synthetic”, because I feel like it’s overused and in most cases a poor descriptor. Anymore, basically EVERYTHING is synthetic and using some sort of aroma-chemical - but sure, it’s a “synthetic” and a safe/easy wear. It’s pleasant and fresh/clean smelling. To me it’s better put together than 90% of what you’ll find at this price point. Most loud fragrances at the sub $20 mark usually smell like a mess and induce a headache. This will not do that, nor will it fill a room. It’s “Modern” in the sense of pre-praline and chestnut. No, you will not get monster performance out of your $8. You’ll get a few hours of a nice and clean skin scent, which is perfect for the price point and actually exactly what the bottle portrays. Stay grounded with your expectations and you won’t be disappointed with this one!

This has changed several times on me when I did paper spray vs air spray vs skin test. It draws inspiration from Bvlgari Pour Homme, Versace Dylan Blue, and Mont Blanc Legend; each time during the maturation process I was smelling a different interpretation. It opens bright with a blend of water notes, seaweed, grapefruit, and juniper. In the heart it shifts into a slightly spicy tamarind and cyclamen (I looked up because I mostly got exotic spices). The base is musky vetiver and incensy birch. In the air I get MB Legend, in the dry down I get Dylan Blue, and I don't think I've sampled Bvlgari Pour Homme but suspect the heart is an ohmage to it since the Extreme in that line has similarities to Kenneth Cole Black which also has a neat spiciness. This is perfectly acceptable for the gym but I think also makes a nice office scent.

Just got a 30 ML cheaper than a deodorant. Opening is somewhat harsh juniper for a few seconds accompanied by grapefruit. Then quickly settles into a very fresh-floral cyclamen/muguet kind of scent. Laundry fresh. At times it reminded me of Aramis New West drydown. I'm not saying they are similar, but Modern Man is somewhat more watery/aqua version of Aramis New West in many aspects, and it doesn't smell modern, instead, I do get the lovely 90's vibes from it. Even for 90's this is not modern, not in a bad way though just to set expectations. Somehow reminded me of my childhood. Overall a decent daytime, daily feel-good scent. More fitting for sprint/summer or when chilling at home.

Somehow I collected four BR fragrances. They are like my CK. Easy, inoffensive, attractive and affordable. Modern Man can be described as a modern cologne. I could even call it unisex. It's a nice fragrance, "clean and fresh" but not original. Still, I love to wear this perfume, it's ideal for work or any place where you should wear a "safe" fragrance. The dry down leaves a soapy musky kind of scent. You can't go wrong with Modern, my advise is that if you see a bottle, grab it.

I should of listened to the reviews. This doesn’t last. Maybe that’s the reason is so cheap at discounters? Smells good don’t get me wrong. I was born in 1991 and there was a cologne that smelled exactly like this but I can’t remember the name so it’s not really “modern”. Believe me just listen to the reviews and don’t buy it unless you just wanna blow your money and want to reapply it every hour.

Modern soapy green fragrance, accent on the soapy. Should go well with a crispy dress shirt. Somehow this category has become rare recently so glad Banana Republic is still making some of their cologne lines, albeit reformulated post 2012-2014 IFRA bans.

To me, this is a watered down weaker version of Dylan Blue mixed with Montblanc Legend. Smells good. Just don't last. I keep it in my truck for air freshener. Works great! Well woth the $7.99 I paid for a 30ml bottle.

Light, clean, pleasant but boring... you'll smell good without standing out. Makes a decent office or gym frag. Will probably eventually be given away.

Just get Azzaro Chrome instead. It hits a lot of the same themes, and shares a couple of notes. Chrome is louder, and more synthetic. Modern Man just has lacking performance on just about every metric. I prefer the scent of Modern Man, as it is smoother and more delicate, but it lasts about as long as a moisturizer on skin - and provides none of the additional benefits. Any points Modern Man gets for the pleasant scent it provides are lost due to its lack of projection and longevity. I cannot recommend Modern Man because it fails to justify its price point, or its awful performance, in a competitive market. Azzaro Chrome, or Nautica Voyage will serve you far better, and still be inexpensive.

This is another blue fragrance. The cedar note is prominent, but not overstated. On my skin, performance is exceptionally weak. A completely safe scent, and a cut above something like Playboy NY in both quality and maturity. It's a welcome addition to a wardrobe of cheapies that doesn't have this base already covered, but for somebody willing to shell out for better-known designers, another route would be preferable. Even then, my personal preference would be for something like Salvatore Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale Blu or Cremo Blue Cedar & Cypress.

Insanely boring and doesn’t last at all. However, it smells good, clean, aquatic and airy, very summer/spring fragrance with a tiny bit of spice. Picked it up for 15 bucks at TJ Maxx. That alone should tell you enough about it, haha, so I was not expecting anything crazy, and it was pretty much 100 percent what I expected. Good to spray out of the shower or keep in your gym bag, or in the car. That’s about it. Safe, generic AF, but pleasant.

Just picked this up last week at Marshall's for $20 US. I am trying not to buy anymore cheapies but was curious about this and blind bought based on descriptions here. Some fragrance reviews/descriptions can be all over the place, but most of the comments here are spot on. This is a very pleasant, clean fragrance that is perfect for the office, the gym, or anytime you are going to be in close quarters for a few hours and aren't trying to seduce anyone. Very clean. I get the grapefruit and juniper berry blending with a light patchouli and musk. The rest of the listed notes are so subtle as to be nonexistent. This is an EDT and is not a performance monster by any means. So I advise spraying 6-7 times including clothing. You could go to the gym or out for coffee an hour later and smell great without offending anyone.

Launch date is 2014? I bought this winter of 2003. Banana Republic was right down the street from my college dorm, my first semester so I recall very clearly when I got this. Remember it being very business and office like. Giorgio Armani-ish. update: 1 & 1/2 years after my initial post, I finally got a bottle of the new version. And I have to say this doesn't remind me of the original one I used to have at all. Nothing like Armani. But this smells amazing! Unlike any of my other colognes. I really like this one. This might sound weird, but this instantly makes me feel like I'm in a brand new car on a date or in a sexy lounge room at a club..where the scent of cologne and perfume lingers, and you can't be sure whose wearing that amazing scent. 4.5/5 Now I have to buy the original to compare.

The opening is cool and masculine. It's the smell left in the bathroom about an hour after a nicely groomed guy gets ready. The temperature has come down, but there's still a hint of moisture in the air and the smell is fresh and clean with undercurrents of shaving soap (aromatics) and cologne (sporty citrus). I don't find it uncomfortably masculine to wear, more a pleasant aura of cleanliness. The drydown becomes a light floral and vetiver skin scent. Nice for when I want to feel clean and cool.

First few minutes are a little rough with all the alcohol, but then it settles into a nice pleasant soapy clean scent which is safe to wear and gives the out of the shower feel...Could be considered Unisex but it is also masculine and not to sweet. It seems to be linear and simply smells good for 1-2 hours....Lacks Performance, reminds me of most CK scents in that they only last a couple hours, but all tend to be safe and easy to wear. Nothing groundbreaking but something I will get use out of.

Woah these notes look like an impending disaster. Seaweed,water notes, radish?, and cyclamen mixed with grapefruit! Yeesh. What kind of nonsense is "rainforest" Patchouli? Or "solar" musk? Of course it could be great, so don't take my cynicism too seriously but with these notes, it seems like this was created to smell like the day after a Tsunami destroys a village. Elegant bottle though.

Quite nice, mellow and inoffensive office save scent. The name "modern" fits perfectly. Nothing spectaculair, won't buy it again but no regrets buying it in the first place. The bottle is one of the most gorgeous bottles I have ever seen, much more classy than the scent itself. Nice try!

Best frangrance under 50$( 3.4f oz for 50$) , performance is average like longevity and Sillage , but the smell is amazing ! Keep in mind I got this for 5 TIMES cheaper than BLEU DE CHANEL ! ! ! Fresh , citrusy, a hint of sweetness , a bit balsamic like Bleu de Chanel , And a bit woody

I received one as a gift and I use this as an emergency fragrance. I always leave it in the car glove compartment and just in case I forgot to put on a cologne after leaving the house, I use this and it’s really a nice scent.

I always used to like Modern Man...it's a nice soapy green vetiver scent with a mishmash of other, more herbal notes. The staying power is almost nil, and it's definitely a skin scent. Guerlain Vetiver Sport, on the cheap.

This is an ok, soapy scent for me. Not great, not bad. It’s cheap so it’s perfect for running errands, t-shirt day, etc. You won’t offend or amaze anyone.

i got a sample bottle from a guy on ebay, and let me tell you........ ITS INCREDIBLE !!! it's exactly my type of smell!
