Salty Rose

I got a sample set, and this was the one I was the most skeptical of as lemon and other citruses end up rotting on my skin, ending up sour and nasty like b.o. or synthetic and sneeze inducing, but I'm a huge fan of rose and have been hesitantly dipping my toe into marine scents. I cannot sing the praises of this more. It may be my favorite rose of all time, evoking the real and delicate smell of a fresh cut rose from my mother's garden, stem and all. Hugely love this. The seaweed doesn't weigh it down, but rather mingles with the lemon in a dance that lifts it up, like a coastal wind that allows a butterfly to dance with ease. I am a huge fan of rose, but this truly blew me away and leaves others in my collection (even mainstays of several years) in the dusf. It is no contest.

Such a beautiful rose scent. Usually roll my eyes smelling the newest Turkish rose + pink pepper combo but this one takes all expectations and throws them out to sea- literally. Smells like walking on the beach wearing fresh rose linen spray on your clothes. Super emotional and nostalgic, smells very light and aesthetically pleasing. A very very good perfume overall.

very cucumber forward to start, likely grandma’s garden in late summer. there is certainly a saltiness and the rose comes in slowly as it dries down. beautiful. i’m not typically one for roses, they can go quite wrong, but this is fresh and lovely. very delicate and open ended, quite feminine. very different from the others in the discovery set so far.

Chilly late spring day on a craggy Atlantic coast. Shale, wet from a week of light rain is salinated and brined as the sea water gently laps onto the cold stone. A maudlin rose bush is in full bloom nearby. Inexplicably, and yet perhaps most prominently, a freshly cut eureka lemon is squeezed for its juice. And it just makes sense.

Salty air, roses blooming at a cottage by the ocean. Collecting seashells in the afternoon and lining them up by the window of your red-roofed house. Biking to your friends house at sunset and catching up with them over a bottle of bubbly. This is magic.

I'm at the beach in Nova Scotia, my head is in a rose bush, my skin tastes like salt.

This is the one I wanted/needed to love the most out of my sample set. My family is form the maritimes and I spent all of my summers there, right on the water. This is predominantly rose - an adult rose. Carnation-type rose. And the salt is also prominent. The big rose floral is immediately grounded and shaped by the seaweed note. I really get a low tide, wet, bright green seaweed that is enveloping the rose. It's a bit 'soapy' in the way we often associate rose with our grandmother's powder rooms and those little soaps shaped like star fish and shells in the glass jar on the sink. I'm not sure if I love it or hate it but i can't stop smelling myself. It's nostalgic. I wish there was something warm to ground this one - it feels a bit up high and fleeting but I suppose that's also the nature of being by the ocean. I'm going to try pairing this with an iso-e or ambergris and see what happens.

This is not a review >>> I'm wondering if anyone has BARRE *Salty Rose* >and< DS & Durga *Rose Atlantic* and would be kind to wax poetic about both....compared to each other. *Salty Rose* has lots of LEMON; *Rose Atlantic* has Bergamot and Lemon Oil . I'm guessing that can create similarities. What about the aquatic, ocean, sea, beach, water + roseness sensations of each. Of course....I could purchase BOTH and do my own sniffs testing (*Rose Atlantic* is currently SOLD OUT on the Durga website) but....I'm putting it out there to hear what anyone thinks. Molto grazie.

it's a very green rose, with a bright lemon and some nice soapiness. there is ocean in here. in my head, i think i was hoping this would skew saltier (i blind bought based on how much i love Overcast). it's not straight up salty, really! but it does have a KELPINESS, and is very fresh and easy. an open window next to the ocean in a nice, clean house. took a minute to grow on me, but super nice. :-)

clean sheets in a cosy room with a view by the ocean, on a sunday afternoon. i'm probably gonna wear this all summer, a heartwarming, powerfull yet very fresh fragrance. delightful !
