Rose Olivier

The comments so far are observant and the background to them can be found in the perfumer's description - " In the south of France, a rose bush grows intertwined with the olive tree. . . The result is a nuanced rose unlike any other . . . " What you are smelling is that combination of the rose and the olive tree. The uniqueness of Rose Olivier by Bastide is the uniqueness of the rose itself. Other rose fragrances attempt to produce a woody fresh rose and some are successful (Roses de Chloe' for one), but this is especially for those who crave a natural rose scent - because you might be surprise to like this. The scent is natural - it actually is - it doesn't just seem that way - and the other notes enhance and strengthen it. It is simple yet with depth at the same time. It is fresh yet cozy; young yet decidedly a rose classic; and it doesn't turn in the dry down. I enjoy some of Bastide's other offerings as well but I think this is my favorite. I love the back story.

She is the most beautiful in my perfume collection. A feel-good, understated and gorgeous thing to wear, like silk on clean tanned skin. Just delectable. My favourite rose for summer. Well-rounded, natural, in a soft bouquet of summer grass, wood and wild-flower impressions that feel distinctly mediterranean. Elegant, yet undemanding - a country-house cologne that you can wear in the daytime or evening heat. I wear this at home. (If i try to wear it at the office, it makes me want to leave and live a better life.) Bastide has created one of the best fragrance lines i have smelled in recent years. All offerings are excellent (Rose, Nue, Figue and 1958 are standout to me!) all are casual, sporty outdoor scents (none of them are really for dress up, for evenings, etc. though ‘Fig Amour’ is ‘serious’). I would like to own 3 or maybe even 4 of them. Wow Mathieu Nardin!

It opens as a garden that is awakening to the warm touch of the sunlight in a late spring morning in the country. I encounter myself right in the center of the garden, picking a rose, taking deep sniffs of this bright red velvety flower while I feel the gentle breeze of the wind on my skin, bringing the scent of oranges and lemons in its weightless touch. I walk away from the garden towards the olive trees but the scent of the roses follow me in the wind, dancing around the olive trees creating this beautiful song that can only be perceived by the nose. Don’t wake me up... let me dream a little longer. What a beautiful perfume this is.

A beautiful rose fragrance with a twist - Olive! It’s fresh and evocative of a trip through Provence (not surprisingly), and there is something nostalgic and comforting here. Nothing groundbreaking but easy to wear. Good performance for an edt as well. I’ve been quite impressed with the Bastide fragrances.

A lovely fresh,almost green rose scent that dries down to a warm ambery wood finish. It is a yummy scent; I get many compliments on this fragrance.

Rose lovers need this in their collection. The perfect blends of sweet powdery musky rose, mouth watering and classic. Some people might say it smells old lady’ish but those people are tasteless. The old lady rose is delish to me and this perfume is perfection. Also the silage and longevity goes crazy for an eau de toilette. Turkish delight and musk sticks in an expensive smelling fragrance. It might not be a reinvention of the wheel as there are a million rose scents out there and the powdery musky variety has existed forever but somehow Rose Olivier stands out not for its notes but for it’s prefect blend, I walked past a girl and correctly identified she was wearing it, which says something for a rose fragrance. The only reason I don’t repurchase this is because I have portrait of a lady now and even though they’re quite different I’m just never gonna reach past it when I want rose. If you’re specifically after a powdery musky vintage perfume sweet shop rose, this is the stop. The woman who introduced this to me had her car broken into and her bottle stolen so I think it says something about how good this is.

The usual fruity rose scent done correctly layered with olives. The olive smell is noticeable and is challenging the composition. At first I was really surprised. I really can smell some fresh black olives in there. The dry down is quite sweet though. Probably because of the litchi I guess. This is the thing I like the least about that perfume. Lasting power is great. Is this artificial ? A bit yes but most perfumes are these days so ...

Perfectly balanced and well behaved rose centric fragrance. First things first: Rose Olivier has some major performance, especially considering this is an EDT. Both times I wore it, I could smell it throughout the day and on my clothes 24 hrs later—politely projecting, never overbearing.

this is a modern, fresh peony/litchi heavy rose with cashmere woods and synthetic smelling musk. i've smelled a lot of these. this is not my cup of tea when it comes to rose, however, for this type of rose, it is very well done. a fresh, light somewhat green springtime rose.

Pink rose and lychee are on full display. Lychee adds a nice 'dewiness'. Is clean but definitely leans into old-fashioned bar soap territory. Soapy musk with an antique quality underneath. VERDICT: Nice enough, certainly not re-inventing the wheel. Not for me.

I tried this on my hand for the first time yesterday - after noticing the brand for the first time. I love rose scents and I own a few from low to high end. This is a lovely green rose, quite familiar to a lot of roses scent I've smelt but can't grasp the resemblance as I haven't been wearing much perfume. I'd say it's still unique in its own way. Hence I would probably get a travel size than a full bottle as I am very indecisive when it comes to perfumes - hence why I own so many travel sizes.

Just after a light rain - standing barefoot in the damp soil of the rose garden. The sun is starting to come back out, and the air is warming, bringing the smell of the flowers in bloom. Dries down to something more woodsy and a little more artificial, but overall very pleasant. A perfume seemingly made especially for spring.

Just tried this amongst the Bastide collection and it’s my favorite which I was not anticipating. A fresh, green rose. Beautiful.
