Cucumber Melon

Oh, Cucumber Melon. They could never make me hate you! I met you in January 2009, and you still hold a special piece of my heart. It was January 2009, I was 8 years old, and I had wanted my mom to take me to the mall for a while. It was the last day of Christmas break before school started again. I had a bad case of the Sunday Scaries and so my mom finally obliged. In a childhood full of abuse with my mom as one of the perpetrators, this is a very nice memory for me. It was very kind of her, especially since we had just got done with Christmas and were still in the midst of a recession. Being a chubby little girl in the 2000s, I hated clothes shopping, but Bath & Body Works drew me in because fragrance was something feminine, girly, and fun that I didn't need to be a certain size or look a certain way to indulge in. I remember coming out of the store not with body mists, but with body washes. Cucumber Melon and Country Apple. Cucumber Melon is very sugary while still being very light. The sweetness present here is only very distantly related to the notorious, heavy gourmands of the 2010s and 2020s. I don't detect any of the bitterness other reviewers have mentioned. Cucumber Melon smells far sweeter than either of the fruits it gets its namesake from. Yet they're both present, most especially the melon. It's a very innocent, simple, and fleeting fragrance, in the same way that produce ripens and spoils quickly. Very well-suited for a little girl in need of cheering up! I was obsessed with Cucumber Melon, but after that body wash ran out I didn't get any more for several years. The mall was almost 30 minutes away, money was tight, and this was before online shopping was the accessible beast it is today. Not to mention that I spent my teenage years in tomboy mode (though I did get some Cucumber Melon lotion for Christmas from my mom in 2015). This past summer I noticed the body mist was on sale online for all of 3 dollars and so I bought it. It smells exactly like I remember...I will always love you, Cucumber Melon.

Just here for the nostalgia... I didn't care about nostalgia until this year. My best friend and I were reflecting on perfume mixes I would make for her. My aunt would bring me a nice fragrance when she would visit. My personal allowance was five bucks on Friday and not always borrowed back. I saved up for cucumber melon spray and rocked a good glittery peony and sweet pea from our local Dollar Tree. Those days had cloying Body Fantasy sprays and fresh no-namers with simple scents that filled the junior high school locker rooms with deliciousness. I moved on to Body Fantasy's Raspberry or something to the like (purple-still out there.) It smelled like alcohol and flowers. I focused on the flowers. I recieved both complements and insults for my scent selections: including Calgoons moon-light path. I smelt delcious to some, and like a grandpa to others. Ode to the Cucumber melon; everyone liked it! Always. I wished I had CKY back then... and had many fun things I tried before finding my "Signature fragrance" I love love by Moschino back when I was freshly heart broken in 2006.

This was the o.g. 1990's girl scent. I think every single girl I knew owned this one. This mixed with Aussie hairspray was a winning combo! I do think the formula has changed a little bit. I don't think it's quite as sweet or crisp as I remember, BUT overall this is still a young and fun bodyspray that is great for spring and summer. It has moderate sillage and does not last that long on skin. However, if you layer it with the shower gel and body lotion it lasts a bit longer.

Cucumber Melon will always be a love of mine. I've worn this fragrance for the last 20 years and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. This is perfect for anyone for any occasion. It works so beautifully in the heat and smells fantastic. There are no rules that you can't wear this in the winter either, it smells crisp and clean! Woman, man, non binary, child, can all wear this. It's fresh and aquatic and can never be too much or too cloying or strong.

I love this fragrance so much. It doesn't smell complex, it's really simple. Some people may relate its simplicity to cheapness, but honestly, I like it. It's not pretencious in the least. When I first smelled it, I thought it smelled like something from when I was really young in the early 2000's, even though I barely have memories from that time. I'd say it's slightly fresh and fruity. I don't agree with it being ozonic; it feels watery.

Cucumber Melon is one of my all time favorite B&BW scents. If you are looking for a good summer time cucumber this is the right place for you. The cucumber in this scent overshadows the melon a bit, the melon is still there but it is a bit more distant in this scent. Sadly it does not last super long but this is a good affordable cucumber melon pick.

Pure melon scent.Syrupy Sweet, juicy melon. I do get hints of freshness from cucumber but very subdued. Overall, good summer scent. A bit juvenile but refreshing as a daytime scent. Longevity isn't great but it does project nicely for first two hours. Surprisingly,people notice this scent and ask what I'm wearing. Thumbs up from me

Had this scent as a shampoo during elementary, so I've been looking for this scent for so long. When I found it it felt like going back to taking in the first sniff lol Def worth it if you want to smell fresh and clean!

I have the ORIGINAL bottle, like when the bottles were cute with the bumpy texture on it. It smells so amazing. A sweet melon scent that is so fresh and nostalgic. Will forever love cucumber melon perfumes like this.

good for layering and it smells fresh

Like many people reviewing, I'm here for the nostalgia. Having spent my teens and early 20s in the 90s, I was there for the original launch of Cucumber Melon is 1998. I wore the heck out of this stuff! (It might be the signature scent for Gen X and older millennials.) I picked this bottle up during a sale when they brought it back for a limited time. To me, I still get the original scent (though I know others believe it has changed). I don't have the same love for it, but that could be because it is a little different, but I think it is because my fragrance palate has changed (and maybe gotten a little more sophisticated). I think this is a perfect scent for a young girl just getting into fragrance (I hate smelling pricey, heavy scents on 14 year olds), but it is just fine for a grown woman and doesn't have the same little girl vibe as some of the overly sweet fruity scents do. While I love the melon and cucumber notes, I would like it if the cucumber came out a bit more and it was a little more complex, and that's probably a reflection of how my tastes have evolved. However, the overall scent is just perfect for spraying on in the spring or a sweltering hot summer day to provide a light fragrance without becoming overwhelming. Would I have bought this if I was smelling it for the first time? Hard to say. Nostalgia is a funny thing. But I have it now and I'll wear it a lot. It's a keeper for sure.

I bought this about a year ago as a present for my grandmother after she had requested something refreshing for the upcoming summer. I smelled it in store after seeing the name and it immediately struck me as perfect! The first smell definitely hits pretty hard with the sweet and almost tangy melon (not sure if thats the grapefruit i'm seeing on the back label peeking through?). It settles on the skin in about a minute and brings out the crisp cucumber, but definitely still has that kind of sweetness from the melon. It then settles in the following minutes to a lower volume of sweet. Unfortunately it fades pretty fast (as per the norm with B&BW body sprays) and I will admit can be a little cloying at points along with it having some bitter notes that are not always welcome. Overall I give this about a 6/10 :)

Lovely and fresh as this one is, sweet aquatics unfortunately don’t mesh well with my chemistry, especially when they’re mixed with green/ herbal notes. CM is no exception, I feel a bit queasy and uneasy whenever I wear it. I can enjoy aquatics in hand soap or sanitizer form and when briefly smelled on others but not for long durations. The fresh, crisp and dewy cucumbers soon give way to very sweet juicy honeydew melons. There is a mild green accord from the LOTV and cucumbers 🥒 . I would have preferred there were stronger citrus notes on top and more florals in the heart with less sweetness overall. However I still enjoy smelling it briefly on my hand and face towels, which is the recent purpose of my mist spray 😜.

This was an old school favorite scent from my college days and I impulsively ordered a new bottle during the last big sale, just for the nostalgia. Boy, has it changed!!! The basic DNA is still there- sweet cantaloupe, refreshing cucumber, almost a watermelon scent. However, they’ve added woodsy notes. Why, BBW? Why is this woodsy now? It’s so weird and unexpected and makes the dry down kind of spicy. It’s not necessary bad, as I am a fan of green, woody frags, just not exactly what I expected,

This is one of those scents that I LIKE but don't love maybe because when I went to Khols there was a hand sanitizer section, and there was a hand sanitizer spray that smells to much like cucumber melon and the " Alcohol" Smell is throwing me off, I'll wear this more often in the spring/summer because this is one you cannot wear in the winter or fall. I'd wear it out a shower or maybe when I don't feel like doing to much I can see why it's popular though.

i currently have this in the body lotion but i've had the mist in the past. it's such a lovely fresh honeydew melon smell that's not overly sweet and it's perfect for hot weather and layering with other scents ! if there's ever an edp that smells similar to this but performs better i'd definitely get it ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧

it's a body mist; inevitably the performance is lacking. however, scent wise, i find it pleasant. there's a freshness to it accompanied by a medium-level fruity sweetness. definitely fresh but not sharp, and it has a youthfulness to it. it feels effortless. i've received compliments when layering this with other scents.

My go-to out-of-the-shower body sprays. As much as I love my overly sweet perfumes, they aren't the best to use in the summer. This still has a bit of sweetness but think of a fruit. It does not last long but is a classic for the Bath & Body Works community.

I don't know why it says here it's 2019. I had this since early 2000s. This, & Pear Glace. Bought one again for nostalgia. Perfect for humid weather. Scent gone after an hour. I think it's reformulated. It used to last 4hrs before.

It's a very nostalgic scent to me. I feel like one of my older cousins might have worn this when I was a small child. I like this scent, but it is a bit too synthetic for me. A cute, watery, sweet scent.

This smells so good when you spray it in the air but it smells weird when sprayed on paper. If you love cucumber and melon this is the scent for you but the hint of grapefruit is weak.

a classic I loved as a 14 year old. fairly straight forward. Sweet and pleasant, but not something I would wear.

Very sweet, remind me of overripe cantaloupe. Nostalgic.

Possibly the best cucumber/melon body mist ever created

This fragrance is very nostalgic! Unfortunately, either the formula has changed or my palate has, or maybe both! This has become my go to post work out fragrance for at the gym. In my mind this was the original fresh out of the shower clean smelling fragrance. The opening of ripe juicy Melon paired with Cucumber followed by a soft tartness of grapefruit with subtle woodsy notes does make for a nice fragrance. Love this for rainy days and especially spring with the temperature slowly warming. Not too strong but comfortable to wear.

You're sitting at a table and in front of you is a wooden bowl of grass clippings topped with cucumber slices. From the next room, someone whispers the word "melon" to you through a walkie talkie. That is B&BW's Cucumber Melon. They may have done it first, but Bodycology and Body Fantasies both did it better. This is the oatmeal cookie of cucumber melon scents: I'll wear it if it's there but it is not my favorite by a long shot.

fruity fresh scent - i pick up entirely on the melon and not much on the cucumber. it's a no for me given that the longevity is nonexistence. i spray it and poof, it's gone. otherwise, a decent fragrance.

nail polish remover & blue raspberry slurpees. it's melon-y sweet acetone.

its smells kind of like a spa and melon water

I've had the original CM in my collection multiple times over the years, and it's one of the fragrances that launches me straight into acute nostalgia. However, this has undergone some changes (there's another entry for CM already, this seems to be the page for it's current formulation), and it's not just my imagination. It used to be more truly aquatic, with more of a pronounced cucumber note. It was a little more distinct, and the projection was better. As with other B&BW fragrances, this has turned even sweeter, and it smells more sugary than it used to in the late 90s-early 2000s. The cucumber is lessened, and overall it's just more candied and less cooling. To some people this might be an improvement, but to me, it's a loss. I loved when it was unashamedly cucumbery and funky, and when it was crisp. It stood out, wafted down hallways, and smelled how ska music sounds. Now, it's just a weak echo of what it was, and it bums me out. I'm at the tail end of my products from years ago, and when they're gone, I think I'm going to finally let go of CM. It's just not the same any longer, and instead of helping me feel soothed in it's familiar aroma, it makes me sad and irritated. Sometimes in our fragrance journeys we need to say it; Adios amiga, it's been real! 💚🥒🍈

I bought this during the most recent B&BW sale, so I’m assuming I have a more recent release of Cucumber Melon. The notes on my bottle are “crisp cucumber, watery honeydew, summer cantaloupe, sparkling grapefruit, sheer woods.” I’ll be honest, I only bought this for a bit of nostalgia. I haven’t smelled it in SO many years, and I wanted to see if it would transport me back to elementary and middle school. On first spray, I get a lot of prescription-strength cough syrup. It’s really gross and only fades some. Next up, I get watermelon candy, followed by a lotion-like accord. (I must have had the Cucumber Melon body lotion growing up, so that’s likely where that association is coming from.) Lastly, I get a slightly vegetal cucumber. Overall, I found it quite sickly. With about 2 sprays on my arm, it’s a skin scent in an hour or two, and I had completely forgotten about it by hour 3. Fun for the nostalgia of it all, but not something I enjoyed wearing. I’ll be returning it.

Blind bought it expecting it to be like Dove’s cucumber body wash, and boy was i wrong. I smell all the notes written on the bottle- cucumber, honeydew, cantaloupe.. plus some watermelon, so it was really my fault expecting something different from it lol. However, this scent is just NOT working for me. It’s so sour and sharp as if someone ate all these summer fruits and vomited on me😭 The body wash seems to be much less invasive to my nose but i still don’t like it sadly.

if you’re looking for a really fresh, cucumber scent, this is definitely for you. personally, i’m not a huge fan of it because i don’t get any melon notes and i find it to be really heavy on the cucumber. this is a scent i could only find myself wearing on really hot summer days because it is quite refreshing. i wish it was sweeter and because the cucumber is so strong, it’s almost bitter. overall, i’d give this scent a 5/10.

This spells too much like a watermelon candy, it's as if I sprayed watermelon warheads liquid candy all over myself. I was expecting a fresher smell than this! This isn't fresh at all, just sugary.

ugh, i hate this scent. honestly.. my mom gave it to me because she didn't like it herself, but it just stinks. all I smell is cucumber. i thought it was going to be more sweet since there's melon in it, but there isn't. just cucumber. i have the body lotion and it just sits in my collection and collects dust. i can't stand this perfume or the body lotion; 0/10

This is one they didn’t get as close to the nostalgia factor. If you were thinking of picking this one up in the sale just know it’s about 85-90% close to the OG but theres some differences. For starters it’s more atmospheric/ozonic. It smells far away or in the air around you when you smell it up close even though you’ve sprayed it directly on yourself. I suspect there’s some modern aroma chemicals at play here that they put in fragrances these days to last longer. It’s definitely got the cucumber down pat but there’s less emphasis on the melon that we’ve smelled in previous rereleases that I grew quite fond of. I liked the almost candy like smell without becoming too sweet because the cucumber would deliver some freshness and ground it. There’s barely any melon in here at all and if there is it’s the Calone oceanic kind you find in things like Cool Water, not the Bath & Body works type that fans have grown to love and show loyalty to. I get more cucumber melon hand soap/body wash vibes from this and less of the perfume adjacent I’d grown to love and go through so many bottles of throughout the years. You could probably skip this one if you’re not a devout fan, and maybe even if you are one and you don’t adapt well to reformulations and change.

The Justice Cucumber & Melon perfume is a great slightly stronger dupe for this, and it can now be found for only $5 at 5 And Below! I had it in the past and was thrilled to see it again, especially for so cheap. Doesn't smell cheap at all in my opinion. Smells like pure happiness of being at Disneyland during a summer evening

I feel like in highschool in the early 2000s, you were either cucumber melon girl or a japanese cherry blossom girl. I was the former, having a cucumber melon hand sanitizer, and now as an adult have the newer release of the bbw spray. Very fresh and clean, sweet melon.

Picked up the lotion today at the SAS. I used the hell out of this in high school and didn’t think I liked it anymore, but actually it’s a light, fresh/clean frag with a hint of sweetness, it’s perfect for when you need a “cool” smell on a hot summer day.

This was my very first fragrance ever. I LOVED this when I was 8 years old. Would I reach for it now? Not really, but I give it points for nostalgia.

No longevity. Kinda spicy in the way that kiwi seeds are. It's good for nostalgia or covering up the weed smell in your bedroom.

I spray my love letters with this. Such a nostalgic scent for me even though I wasn't around for it's first run in the 90's
