Ocean for Men

This is my revised review for Ocean. This was a fragrance that while it came out in 2010, I didn't hear of it until June 2012 when my ex-girlfriend and I walked into the entrance of Bath & Body Works where Ocean and a few other scents were being promoted it front and center. I liked it from the start but didn't get it until about three years later as my first fragrance. We all remember our firsts and this is a pretty good first, let me tell you... This is a very good scent to start with. The three things that you think of when smelling this scent are: the ocean, citrusy and Cool Water. It really reminds me of the ocean, it's really uncanny how much it smells that way. This is an Arizona aquatic due to its fruity citrus mix with a pretty heavy yuzu and bergamot open but that goes away about an hour in for a woody base with a slight nutmeg middle. Arizona has a longer summer but not much water. This however is a good way to have the smells of summer away from the beach. So this is a nice way to enjoy summer when not at the beach. To me it smells like Cool Water without the water to it. I think that it gets lost for two reasons: One, it is yet another aromatic aquatic scent, one that doesn't have water notes to it with OK sillage since it as an eau de cologne and has pretty good longevity of at best 5 to 6 hours. Two, it's from the criminally underrated "discount" house of Bath & Body Works (I say that since it is anywhere from under $10 per ounce/30ml to $5 per ounce/30ml) rather than a more expensive and male centric designer line or a niche line. I feel not enough know about this scent. Oh well, more for me (though my brother likes it too since he does like Cool Water.) I would give Ocean a 8.1 out of 10. If you can find it in a Bath & Body Works store, sniff it. It's not gonna kill you and I think you should enjoy it. I would buy it if you can. It can be found pretty cheap (like less than $25) online if you look close enough.

I’ve been wearing this fragrance for at least 7 years. Considering only the smell, the only blue fragrance I like more than this is Versace Pour Homme. Yes, I like it more than Blue de Chanel, Polo Blue and a number of other blue fragrances. I don’t wear it much because it has a big drawback.., it has absolutely no longevity. I’ve used 10 to 12 sprays and its gone in less than 2 hours. I got the Ocean body lotion and drowned myself with it on top of the lotion.., it didn’t help much. I still love to put in on after swimming. I do use the Ocean body wash regularly.

Does sense of smell change over just a year or can a fragrances last for several years and then go bad in one? I have loved this frag for years and worn it every summer. It has absolutely no longevity, but I loved it and would wear it on weekends when I could re-spray. This year I got my bottle out with anticipation and to my surprised disappointment it is just watermelon. There is no patchouli, cedar or vetiver to fill it out. What happened? 😧

I love love love this cologne. I love it so much that I gave it to my best guy friend as a christmas gift because honestly I've never noticed him wearing cologne. Good thing for me that he loved it just as much and now it's all he wears. He even said "girls buying cologne for guys always work in our favor because we know you already like it." Glad I could help I guess. Hahaha

This smells so great. I abused this scent during the summer. It's just so crisp and fresh it immediately elevates my mood. This smells better than any other aquatic that I have come across so far.Ocean was my go to for the summer. Alas, the bad. Ocean doesn't seem to last any more than two hours. What a shame!!

This is a lovely fragrance. So much so that I wear it even though it's marketed for men. It reminds me of walking along the shore late afternoon/early evening. So, so ocean and summer vacation days and relaxation. It puts a dreamy smile on my face. Very fresh, out of the shower clean.

One of my favorite fragrances in terms of smell. It is not strong and doesn't last long for me, and normally this would matter. But I just love the smell too much. Worth reapplying all you need!

I'm a girl, but I absolutely love this scent! It's crisp, fresh and fruity!

This a well done aquatic, and it does not smell like any of the Big 3(AdG, CW, or BA)and is not overly calone-y. It is more like a light blue sky over deep blue water with a bit of green and a hint of the mysterious... The opening IS citrusy and fruity like most aquatics with the tart-sparkly yuzu, juicy watermelon and heady bergamot but its creator added dry green artemisia and elemi(a woodless incense resin) to the mix giving it depth and character. The heart is all man as lavender meets nutmeg and smooth verdant cypress leaves (love this) keep it cool and balanced. It dries down woody but not one of the typical Industry formulations, this is a woody/earthy slightly sweet accord that has the resiny aura of olibanum with none of its usual camphor-like smell. The vetiver adds a slightly soapy feel, almost like foamy caps on the waves as they break on the beach... Sillage: okay Longevity: above average Overall: 3.25/5 Another aquatic-aromatic? I'm afraid so...but it's not as bad as you might think, this one is pretty good and skillfully blended and quite enjoyable. I enjoy Oak and Citron more but this is worth a sniff...

Ah, Bath & Body Works Ocean. This is pretty much what I expected Cool Water to be (much to my disappointment when I tried the real thing). Ozonic, obviously aquatic, and melon. Lots of melon. It's absurdly refreshing, and perfect for those disgustingly humid, muggy days when the air feels like a sauna. The drydown keeps the freshness, with a simple woodiness that smells crisp. The only thing I never liked about it was the longevity. That wonderful melon never stuck around long enough for me, and even the drydown vanished like my ice-cream sandwiches in the freezer, no matter how much I sprayed. Honestly though, when it's so humid everything feels sticky, you don't want something like Sauvage that lasts forever. I gave it to my brother, who gets far more longevity and projection than I ever did. Disappointing, but it's being appreciated so I'm fine with that. Overall, I quite like Ocean, even with the lack of legs. Maybe I'll steal a spray... again.

Was gifted this and I ended up learning a lot about fragrances from it. At the time, I recently purchased lalique encre noir. My first impression was it smelled like it's younger brother. Very fresh scent. Cypress, vetiver, and cedar, are some of the most prevalent notes. The vetiver used was a young one rather than a mature one. This makes it fresher, but at the cost of depth. Performance is weak but that's expected All in all, it's fresh and smells pretty good, but it needs reapplied every 2 hours.

B&B's Ocean is nearly a 1:1 clone of Versace Man Eau Fraiche. The only difference is the heavy signature musk note of Man is revealed during Ocean's drydown instead of right out the gate like with Man. With a 3.4oz of the Versace available from discounters for less than B&B's Ocean retail, it really makes no sense to buy this clone instead of the original inspiration unless you just happen to be impulse buying while in a B&B store. In either case, you won't be disappointed with the smell.

An honest, likable scent. Even the bottle is appealing. To me, yep, it smells like the ocean. To my wife, however, it smells like soap. Longevity is a drawback: on my arm it's gone in an hour. No projection to speak of. A pity. If Bath and Body Works sent this back for reformulation to torque up the concentration and make it last longer they'd have a winner.

This version of Ocean is the first full bottle of cologne I bought with my own money. Now, a decade plus later, I have the conditioner for it in my bathroom and it might as well be a whole different world when it comes to the way they smell. (You know, other than the fact that ones a hair product) Forever in my heart, old Ocean with the weird oblong bottle.

I purchased this for my husband, and I LOVE it! I also enjoy Aqua di Gio, but this was more suited for my budget. The scent stays with him most of the day and casts a spell on me. Simple and sexy.

A fresh aquatic scent that is suitable for work but requires mid-day reapplication. The budget-friendly price is even more appealing, especially since Bath and Body Works often offers discounts.

When I lean closer towards masculine, this is exactly what I picture, it's the most stereotypical "male" scent out there, I just wish it lasted longer.

Almost a stereotypical blue scent. Great value and definitely one I reach for during hot months.
