Gris Charnel

I've heard many descriptions of this fragrance and I must say the one that describes Gris Charnel best is that it's a very "gloomy" scent. Reminds me of petrichor even though I don't think that's really the intent but I do enjoy this scent quite a lot in the sampling that I've been able to do with it. Scent: Nice, crisp and even a little fresh fig scent accompanied with just the slightest spiciness and MESMERISING black tea note. Very calming and beautiful scent profile that I prefer over the extrait as I've been considering between both but this just feels more versatile with the focus on that fig and black tea while the extrait, to me, focuses too much on the vanilla (as luxurious as it is) which strays a little too far from the EDP's profile. Performance: Decent performance on my skin and nothing too crazy. Doesn't last ridiculously long nor project like a beast but it gets the job done so nothing too much to write home about here. Versatility: Maybe this is a personal opinion but I believe that GC can be used for any season and any weather as it gives comfort even in heat or cold though it's absolutely perfect for the rainy day vibes. Perfectly unisex to me too as I can't really pinpoint which side it's leaning which is a good sign in most cases. Scent: 10/10 Performance: 7/10 Versatility: 9/10 Personal Score: 9.5/10 Girlfriend bought me a full bottle for Valentines and I am absolutely in love with this scent. Calmness in a bottle. Only real knock is that it’d be harder to wear during colder seasons but I’m reaching for this more and more as time goes on.

I find many BDK perfumes have a gorgeous sweet but smooth quality about them upon initial spray. This one is no different. After about 20 seconds, the iris comes through intensely. It reminds me of the original Dior Homme. As much as I love Iris as a note, I think it’s tricky to get just the right amount. It’s easy to have so much that it’s all you can think of. For me, Original Dior Homme is the only Iris-heavy fragrance I will allow in my collection. Too little Iris and it can get lost quite easily. But Gris Charnel actually manages to give iris a role but not make it the star player. After a few minutes Gris Charnel develops into what I can only describe as an immaculate barbershop scent which lasts until the end which is a very long time! I think that’s where the Sandalwood and Vetiver notes picked out by others here are doing the heavy lifting, but I must say I didn’t pick those notes out myself. I personally prefer fragrances where I find it difficult to pick out the notes as it normally means it’s been so expertly crafted that the fragrance becomes a complex final product that elevates beyond the sum of its notes. The fragrance leans metrosexual masculine which fits what I look for in a personal scent perfectly. This is a love for me. I’m also just testing out the Gris Charnel Extrait right now too which is also very pretty, but I think I prefer this one. You’ll see a review of the Extrait from me on that page shortly.

So I'm new to the world of niche fragrance. Spent the majority of my life with one trusty fragrance until this unexpected journey which has now tumbled into a fixation which I can only see snowballing into an obsession. All I can really say is holy, my olfactory system is having an absolute party with this fragrance. I read the reviews and some reviewers think this fragrance isn't special because it's basic or common and muhrfkrs I have never in my life smelt something so warm and complex and is it just me or is someone making tea in the other room and it's wafting over here? I would have fought myself to not follow someone wearing this perfume had I encountered it. I work in a high volume environment and I'm exposed/assaulted by cologne + perfume every day and I've never smelt it on anyone so slap my ass and call me basic, I love this. I'm not even sure if this would smell better on me or on my boyfriend but I'll buy a bottle so I can relive this moment. I also found this to lean masculine the first time I sprayed it. Now I'm picking up confident feminine boss bitch vibes. 20/10

This + Molecule 01 is absolutely incredible. A woman followed me around a store for about 15 minutes and approached me as I was leaving just to ask what I was wearing. Just this week have been complimented twice in the elevator and once in a cab. No other perfume has ever had this kind of effect of my skin. I found the combination by pure accident as I happen to be on of those people that can't smell Molecule 01. To me it just smells like alcohol and I only tried to spray it on top of Gris to see if it makes it last any longer and it normally only lasted 2-3 hours for me. By applying a spray of M01 on top of the Gris Charnel it definitely made the projection a little stronger, but that's not all. Every once in a while, maybe once an hour, for the next 8-12 hours I would get a single inhale out of nowhere and it was absolutely magical. I don't know how to describe it. It was definitely Gris Charnel, but elevated somehow. I can understand why someone would follow that scent in a store, it was addicting.

I now own a bottle of this, and I don't regret it. I agree with @Ryuseu's description below. This perfume is gloomy, cold and grey, yes, both literally and characteristically. When I'd tested it multiple times before purchase, it felt stronger. Maceration might play a role here. I have been using it for a couple of weeks, and it's softer and sits closer to the skin than I remember. But not something I complain about, as the creation is flawless and so charismatic. The leathery touch of vetiver...Perfection. I'd described this perfume earlier as "corporate goth", and I'll second it. Paired with a simple yet elegant full-black look with a masculine touch. Silver jewellery, definitely. This scent profile is new to me; I don't have anything similar in my collection. I think I'm starting to become very fond of fig and cardamom. And honestly, I dream of a Gris Charnel version with some ylang in it. But hey, some dreams are odd and wild.

woof. beautiful cardamom opening, wish it wasn't gone so quickly. something a little peppery in the spice and the creaminess of fig and black tea gives chai but specifically the taste of scalding your tongue with hot chai and you get the smell of all of the spices and tea from the steam of putting it up to your mouth. theres also a light smoky note in here that adds to that image. fig is present all throughout so if you are a fig fan you would love the combination. fragrances usually dont last on my skin personally but i got 2 hours, and the dry down is slightly, creamy, and vanillic from the tonka bean. retains that fresh sophistication from the woods and fig, but lies super close to skin. not much projection and lasts 6 ish hrs on clothes before fading

In my perfect world, every day would be a bit chilly and a bit overcast and I would wear Gris Charnel. This perfume is a true love for me. It is like a warm sweater (sandalwood and tonka) and a cup of chai (cardamom and black tea) and its coziness is tempered by a cool, melancholic iris. It is such an evocative perfume for me. It makes me feel sophisticated and a bit serious, but also approachable and comforting. The grey hue of the juice is so cool. And it really projects on me. I get compliments every single time I wear it, sometimes multiple times in one day. It lasts fairly well, too. I find myself in a scent bubble many hours later. But because it is such a sophisticated and gently inviting scent, it never feels overwhelming.

BDK has been my introduction into higher end "niche" fragrances, and they have not disappointed me at all. Gris Charnel has to be in my top 10 Fragrances of all time. I will glaze this one forever, I don't care. It is incredibly sophisticated, cozy, warm, and makes you stand out. When wearing this, the "warm spicy" and "powdery" notes are what stick out to me the most. Better suited for the fall or winter time in my opinion, but I work in an office with AC, so this one is year round for me. I will say that while you will not smell like everyone wearing this fragrance, it is very blind buy safe and very versatile. If you're getting deeper into the fragrance game, or just want to stand out, this is the best BDK to start with.

I think this perfume is an absolute masterpiece, extraordinarily layered and complex, yet at the same time incredibly smooth and pleasurable to wear. It creates an urge to keep smelling it the more you experience it. The blend is so balanced and so high-quality that I find myself reaching for it at any time, in any season. It’s very appealing to a wide audience: elegant, modern, urban, yet also mysterious, with a smoky aura that is utterly intriguing. It’s neither transparent nor matte, but somewhere in between; neither black nor white—truly a perfect grey. The creamy black tea and fig, followed by a mysterious smoky undertone, carry the fragrance to a completely different place, making it a genuinely true unisex scent.

Upon reading the reviews, it seems that this one interacts with skin chemistry quite a bit. Try before you buy. ON SKIN, it pulls milky and sweet, but I am enjoying the cardamom spice (this is what pulled me in initially), which I am 100% getting yay! The DRYDOWN on skin has a menthol/mint like quality - it smells minty - LOVE. I have given myself two years to fall out of love with this before buying a full bottle, but my love has just grown and grown. This to me is BRAINGASM. I generally prefer unisex scents with nature - like woody scents, so this is right up my street. I love the vetiver drydown - this is what people experience as "masculine" I believe - but on skin this is still sweet to me - PERFECTION to my nose.

Such a rich, decadent perfume, it screams money, it has that old money vibe to it. Think Chanel bags, little blazers, bobs with side bangs and flat shoes! Everything is so well blended, each note has depth and is velvety, so it’s especially surprising that the longevity is abysmal!! Yet the poor longevity makes it somehow more wearable. This really reminds me a lot of Liis Bo but Gris is sweeter more smouldering. I’d also say Gris leans more traditionally oriental and kinda reminds me of the dry down of Dior Addict. Just like addict I can sometimes feel self conscious in this, it has a maturity to it and I’m not sure I can pull it off! Longevity- 2/3 Projections- arms length Scent profile - 8.5/10 Purchase- Yes

This is one of my favorite colder weather cozy type scents that’s great for staying in by the fire or going out with family and friends. The tea note gives the relaxing chill vibe and the sandalwood and tonka in the dry down has a wonderful scent that stays with and around me for quite a long time. If I spray on clothes it easily goes 8-10 hrs every time. This is also a fragrance I love to layer with a more vanilla dominant scent, like Sublime Vanille by Creed, or a spicier cinnamon vibe like the Chronic by Byron. Also goes great with Fig Infusion by Essential Parfums. Sophisticated, mature, soft, elegant, and will certainly not turn anyone off and will likely be well recieved bu those around you!

The opening was straight rubbing alcohol and was very unpleasant, but paid off beautifully within five minutes. This is one of the best cardamom notes I’ve ever enjoyed and I can’t even explain what’s so special about it. It’s paired with sandalwood just perfectly. I do pick up some fig note, I would call it ripe or even dried fig rather than green or “creamy” fig. There’s really no creaminess or powderiness in Gris Charnel—it’s just perfectly toasty warm. Avoids falling into the white musk/sandalwood combination that so many fragrances use that gives that overplayed so-called “skin scent”. One of the rare hyped fragrances that truly deserves the praise it gets. Completely unisex, completely sexy.

I’m kicking myself for not trying this one sooner. A true unisex that is smooth and professional, yet not boring, with great longevity. I’m strongly considering a FSB as this would make for a great signature office scent (although TBD how it performs/if I enjoy it as much for warmer summer months). Edit: Does this fragrance just continue to get better/more addictive?! I enjoyed it plenty on my first wear, then the past two days I’ve worn it to use up the rest of my decant sample, and I am ENTHRALLED at this point. Lasts all day, I can’t stop sniffing my wrists (trying not to be too weird at work lol), have gotten loads of compliments. Definitely going for a full-size because I can’t get enough.

Gris is exactly what you think it is. A warm winter morning. A cozy rainy autumn afternoon. A small, coquette teashop in Paris. An antique bookstore. Intellectual, that's one word to describe it. Smooth, powdery, extremely pleasant to my nose - especially the more time passes after I spray. There's no one quite like it. If you're a lover of chai, this will feel like the experience of drinking it - whether it's iced or warm, it envelopes you. A lot of words to say this: it's atmospheric, which is the badge of a perfectly crafted scent. Can't get enough of it. It simply works. You either get it or you don't.

Gri Charnel! Oh what an interesting fragrance! I wear Gri Charnel when I know that I'm going to be in an area full of people. Because to me, it is a very soothing calming scent, universal, but also very elegant. This perfume doesn't take center stage.... the person wearing it does! It supports the person wearing it. like a artist in a bright outfit, or a businesswoman in a crisp white shirt with gold jewelry, the perfume doesn't need to be ostentatious. Gri Charnel doesn't make the wearer more visible, but it does make people wonder....what is that scent! Who is that person!

Smells like you just entered a hotel room in europe on a grey cloudy day looking through the window and only the grey light from the window lits the room up just a little. Feels very cozy and smooth and not very dark. Tea, and smooth woodiness from the sandalwood and a little iris-y smell, with a very slight spice from the cardamom. Very well blended, for some it’s a 10/10 (including me) Haven’t smelled the extrait but i feel like the vibe would be a darker and more luxurious hotel instead of a simple one like this one (edp) and it’s probably less versatile than the edp.

This without a doubt will be a fragrance that I will have in my collection for life. To me this is a safe fragrance to wear almost year-round (excluding blistering hot summer days) especially if you like "darker" scents. I wish the performance were a bit better as I get a few hours with this and then it dies down. I need to come to terms with the expectation that every fragrance must be long lasting. As your day progresses you might want to wear something different and having a 12+ hour performer on would hinder the experience of changing up the scent you want to wear.

This has grown on me SO MUCH at first i just smelled the spicy tea and annoying fig note and a little woodiness, but now as I put it more often and smell it from the cap, it has this amazing sweet depth that I can't get enough of!!! the blend is just amazing! sweet gentle scent, now I smell a sweet chai tea with creamy iris and sandalwood and the fig has this uplifting fruity edge just a little bit that rounds the whole scent out, I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS 10/10 Smell for me 8/10 Longevity (7+ hours) 7/10 Projection (8 sprays) I have to try the extrait next.

Smooth and creamy fragrance. Dark, cozy, and intimate in a soft gentle way. Evocative of a cozying on the sofa while it's gray and raining outside. It's definitely more suitable for colder weather wear but it's not overly strong or cloying and could probably be used any time except peak summer. I get 10+ hours of projection on my skin and 36+ on clothing. My nose also doesn't go blind to this, I can smell myself periodically all day. I like this more than the extrait, which is spicier and quite dense. My all time favorite fragrance.

*Perfect layering combo here!* I blind bought this and found it a little more masculine to my liking. So I layered it with Blanche Bete by Les Liquides Imaginaires, guys it became so heavenly! Still very unisex but the aromatic and woody notes of the scent got along very well with Blanche Bete’s lactonic notes. Definitely give it a try if you find this way too aromatic or sandalwood heavy! Also I found Blanche Bete pretty boring alone, so these two complements each other amazingly! I can’t wear them without each others now. :)

This is an elegant fragrance that starts off with tea and spice, but dries down to a dance between iris and sandalwood. You never know which one will stand out the most as the weather and occasion seem to affect the journey with this fragrance. Many say it is for cozy rainy days, but I think they are influenced by the gray bottle and juice. The gray aesthetic communicates simplicity and refinement to me. I find it wears best when I am dressed nicely for work such as a blouse and pants. It is very chic, elegant, and wearable.

It's not bad but I'm not liking it as of now, just got it in the mail and it smells almost identical to one I recently got rid of called phlur vanilla smoke. I'm actually surprised nobody has added that to"this perfume reminds me of" section. Which is strange because the only now they share is tonka bean. Sad, I'm gonna keep it because I heard that jomashop sucks at returns so I have no choice but I'm not loving it. Edit 06/05/26 I love this😆 not sure why I thought this smelled like phlur vanilla smoke, it does not.

I was exploring new scent profiles because my collection is just sweet gourmand fragrance porn. After the extrait version I was relieved because this scent was better and not that spicy and hard to smell compared to the extrait. This is a versatile fragrance but just not suitable for the warmest weathers. But a tip, combine this with wulong cha or x whatever you have in your hand and thank me later. I need this fragrance. Kinda manly tho I feel like an important person when wear this

a masterpiece. i haven’t stopped thinking about this perfume ever since i smelled it for the first time. the opening is sharp, reminiscent of some kind of medicine, but the dry down is absolutely delicious. it turns greener and creamier, the fig becomes more prominent. the powdery and sweet dry down is so addictive. this scent leans masculine, but it’s definitely unisex. it’s very versatile and signature worthy. so well done. watch me buy a full bottle of this beauty

In an often grey and difficult slouch towards the depths of winter, this fragrance offers a blanketing respite. A comforting, enveloping life force to reawaken and reassure--hold fast, nothing lasts forever. Spices to bring heat, smoked firewood, dry floral and a hint of fruit. The days are short, but Gris Charnel suits wonderfully into the evening. The black tea is not prominent, but the tea is what makes me love this scent the most. Try it, you just might love it.

A lighter, more mass appealing and far more wearable version of the extrait. I bought the extrait after sampling but I can never seem to find the time or place to wear it. I'm now selling my bottle of GCE to get the EDP, which could end up being my favorite of the 15 niche/private line fragrances I own. It's sweet but not cloying with a nice dose of fig that doesn't overpower or turn sickly at any point. Lasts about 10 hours on my skin and forever on clothes. 10/10

This is a perfect fragrance in terms of smell. Iris, fig, powdery, sandalwood—smooth as can be. It has a sweetness without being sweet, hard to explain. Office or date night for me. One thing to note is the pressurized atomizer can go through the liquid fast—or maybe I'm just overspraying because I enjoy it so much. Longevity could be a little better. Maybe 6 hours? I would be interested in sampling the extrait.

It’s comforting and sweet and woody, you get fig as well and oh the prettiest cardamom. Pretty, unisex and very quiet. If only these types of fragrances could fill the room 🫧 For me this is not a tea scent but the feeling it evokes is like drinking high quality tea the traditional way association: library; sugar-free cake and a cup of tea and a crossword puzzle; cashmere set

Love this DNA. I love the sandalwood and fig with the iris. In the drydown there almost like a subtle tobacco-leaf scent in the composition. Beautiful and nicely blended. Only gripes I have with the fragrance is that it sits more close to the skin. The dupe, Lattafa Liam Grey, is more vanilla heavy in the dry-down but I really love both. Still need to try them layered. 9/10

I already wrote a review saying how much I love it and how I like to wear it on cold weather, but I wish it would stay longer on my skin. Just for a curiosity I sprayed it today on a really hot day 35 C and I think I love it even more, plus I could smell it on my hand 7 hours later. Maybe it's a good combination my chemistry and hot weather :) I fell in love again.

think i might need a travel spray of this for fall/winter... this is creamy and smooth yet spicy at the same time - i’m guessing that’s thanks to the cardamom. my taste in fig fragrances tends to lean more fresh and green but this is so cozy. makes you want to spray it on a sweater and let it linger while you read a good book. i keep sniffing my empty sample.

A lot of people say that this gives off a cozy vibe, but to me, this gives off a professional, well put together vibe. Definitely something I would wear to work (I'm in law). It even smells 'clean' to me. It is not a cloying scent to my nose. The fig and the tea notes make it airy. Definitely unisex. Very well composed. Versatile. Aromatic. I love it.

With its cardamom and fig leaf notes, it gives off a VAKKO-style vibe. It was voted by many as the most masculine fragrance of the year, yet I believe it works beautifully for women as well. I’d say it’s about 65% masculine. Longevity is 8/10 — really impressive on clothes, leaving a smoky trail afterward. Would I recommend it? Absolutely yes.

This is currently my favorite fragrance. It has a sweet essence from the dates and fig and a smooth sandalwood layer. It’s sweet, smooth and rich. It’s very versatile and I feel that it can be worn any season, day or night and any occasion. I think it lives up to the hype and smells better than similar fragrances like Santal 33.

I live in a cold and rainy city in Western Europe and Gris Charnel is a perfume that I can wrap around me like a gentle, oriental cashmere shawl. Its smooth, beautfully blended and not loud, but pleasantly complex until after some hours it tapers off into the lingering sweet and creamy sandalwood base.

SUCH a beautiful cozy perfume! Reminds me of fall season, its so soft, sweet but not overly sweet, its has some elegance and intelligence to it, feels like being in arms of my perfect man hahah, but its not overly masculine for me, not at all, i just feel very cozy in it and like I want to stay.

My favorite fragrance. Not a daily (because of the price) but in my opinion, this is the best sandalwood fragrance, from far. It is perfectly blended and executed, I simply love it. The most addictive scent I was able to smell ! Not a blind buy tho, it may not convene to everyone !

On my skin I got young green coconut during dry down and then cedar, leather and tobacco. Hints of fig come and go - even 7 hours in. The Tonka bean base is incredible. I can't stop sniffing my wrist. The sillage was moderate at first, but after about 5 hours became more intimate.

This smells so cozy to me, like the warmth and softness of being in a loved one's arms, burying your nose in their neck. On my skin fig projects quite strongly in the beginning, and the dry down is a soft sandalwood. I bought the 10ml vial first, and have now bought the 50ml.

i used to have a sample of this a few years ago. now i want to buy full bottle because i MISS IT. it smells so comforting, i need it for fall weather, rainy days at home, it smells like masala chai. sweet, spicy but elegant and soft at the same time. pure luxury and comfort

the creaminess gives it a delectably uncanny quality, like fungal rot; decaying matter; a damp church graveyard in the mid-afternoon. it's delicious and carnal (literally charnel), the disturbing silence and rebirth after a violent death. cycles of life.

On what planet is this a winter scent??? Lol even tho i don’t believe in these artificial seasonal “rules” and categories, Tea, Fig & Iris is as Spring/Summer as it gets. Lol how is winter and Fall the overwhelmingly voted seasons?🤷🏻♂️ Fragrantica for ya

Pretty boring tea fragrance to me. Safe to wear anywhere because it's not very strong and doesn't smell like much. I don't get why people love this one so much, so I'll keep testing to try and figure out the appeal. Personal subjective score: 5.5/10

Absolutely love this fragrance! It opens with a nice cardamon scent. It is spicy, peppery, then evolves into this beautiful fig with a hint of smokiness. This is easily my favourite fig fragrance. I also find it quite long lasting which is a plus

If you’ve had Karak chai you’ll know this smells very similar to that, such a beautiful scent. Perfect to wear on a rainy day to invoke that relaxed feeling. Longevity is decent as is the sillage. Definitely worth picking up and blind buy safe.

one of the greatest things I've ever smelled holy fuck! full bottle worthy. I can't pick a single note in this because it's all blended really well. perfect male autumn perfume that has this opulent quality to it. god damn this blew me away.

Very smooth fig, tea, and iris scent. A personal favorite of mine. After trying both this and the extrait, I personally prefer the EDP which is lighter, airier, and more versatile in my opinion.
