Nuit De Sable

Nuit de Sable by BDK. Beautiful unique scent, shame about the performance. This fragrance smells unique and unusual to me, perhaps because it leans more to the masculine side of unisex and I’m used to the more classically feminine-smelling perfumes. This fragrance boasts notes of cardamom, nutmeg, rose, warm sand accord (?!), tonka bean, sandalwood, ambroxan and musk. I’m glad the saleswomen pushed this one on me as I love it when perfumes evoke wonderful olfactory memories and imaginings. The sweet woody scent reminds me of bees wax, dark honey and the smoke used to calm the bees in their hives. It also reminds me (in a good way) of the smell of the dusty, century-old law books in the libraries I used to do research in. The woody/spicy notes put me in mind of the smell of a rich-person’s house – a beautiful villa with wide, polished wooden floorboards, an antique leather armchair which has absorbed the smell of sweet tobacco smoke and cognac perhaps. However this fragrance is not tobacco-y or smoky at all. It’s warm, rich, deep and comforting. There’s a very soft airy rose blooming up through the woody notes and the dry down has just a pleasant hint of talcum powder. You have to close your eyes and think hard about the sand note, but it’s there (a deserted beach in the Spice Islands perhaps?) and I love perfumes that take me on a journey down memory lane and into other worlds. Unfortunately this fragrance is a poor performer on me. I don’t mind the moderate projection but sillage and longevity is less than 30 minutes. I live in a hot, humid climate so I’ll be interested to see if performance is better in our dryer cool season. The fragrance sticks a little better to fabric so I’m spraying it on the bed sheets for now. This was an expensive buy and it's a gorgeous scent so its poor performance is a crying shame. However I’d certainly be interested in testing more fragrances by BDK if this lovely specimen is an indication of their unique note combinations. Scent 9/10. Performance 2/10 (summer).

Nuit de Sable was love at first sniff. I was enthralled. YOU MUST LOVE SPICE TO LOVE THIS. This is a good contender for a DUNE inspired frag like 'Spice Must Flow' by Etat Libre d’Orange, if not THE ideal replacement. Of course, there were many intrusive scents from the other nearby fragrance counters - Xerjoff, Amouage, Jusbox...all vying for attention so I had to make repeated visits to the store, to be sure this was the one, before I wanted to commit. And yes, Nuit de Sable beat them all. Unique, exotic, middle eastern yet french, seductive, warm and smooth. Like an ignited romance between strangers. I normally don’t care for nutmeg or cardamom but here in NDS, it’s so refined with no rough edges that it’s mesmerising. Like other BDK frags, it’s a cohesive composition in perfect symphony. Well put together rather than a discordant clash of kitchen cabinet spices. I disagree that it’s particularly masculine. I can see any introspective, elegant, sophisticated or nonconformist/rebellious individual wearing this. I was so besotted by this fine piece of french perfumery, that I’d forgone a discounted price online in lieu of purchasing in person at full price straightaway. I just couldn’t wait. Plenty of sprays and I get 2 hours of projection, 4-5 hours of longevity before finally turning to a skin scent. Noticeable difference between tester being predominantly spicy and stronger with no rose at all and my purchased bottle being less powerful whilst showcasing the musky rose facets. Unsure if this is a tester maceration issue, my olfactory fatigue or batch variation but nonetheless, does not discredit this creation. 5 out of 5 **** stars.

This fragrance reminds me of rich, wet, pipe tobacco and I was surprised when I found tobacco was not a note listed. I find a lot of fragrances with tobacco notes have this ashy quality that can become off putting- like sniffing an ash tray- but this stays warm and for all the world like sticking your nose in a fresh pouch of grandpas best blend. I adore it! I am super sensitive to rose, but the notes in this are married so well that it doesn't overwhelm me- the rose/cardamom/nutmeg combo in this reads as warm, herbal, and sweet. The sandlewood draws some depth into it and gives it a woodiness while the ambroxin/tonka/musk set the baseline in a smooth and comforting finish. One spray and I smell it in my entire bedroom- and I can smell it on my clothing for days. It is a scent I love to cuddle up with. I haven't tried it in the warmer months yet, but I have a feeling it may be overpowering for summer wear. But for winter...mmmm!!

Was gonna write something but the big positive review of @citywolfie says it all. Especially: ‘Middle Eastern but French at the same time’ which is an astonishing feat and the strong dune/sand metaphore and the similarity with ‘spice must flow’ by Eldo. That one is the closest reminescence of perfume I found unlike the random le labo paragons made here on the webpage. Big difference though: ELDO’s one is a bit more cold, incensy and streamlined (only ginger as spice). Whereas this really has got what you could call a full-blooming spice bouquet (almost tactile-sensation inducing, reminiscent of that sandy consistency and Arabic spice mélanges). On top of the complete review already written, I’ll add that when sprayed it really fills a room but in a very seductive not overpowering way, this perfume is such an androgynous aphrodisiac it’ll leave you wanting to spray more and more both inside and outside the bedroom. :)

This is my second review for Nuit de Sable, and I felt compelled to share my more detailed thoughts since I re-visited her recently. Let me tell you, I stand by my original business-- This is beautiful! I truly do not understand the lower rating on this one. This is a gorgeous composition of a beachy rose. What I love is I find the rose to be pretty jammy, which you wouldn't typically encounter with a beachy rose. There's a juxtaposition between the jammy rose and the sand & spices. I'm wondering if that's why people are having a harder time getting on board with her.. ? But I really think opposites attract here, and it's blended to perfection. This smells elegant, sophisticated, and down-right divine. If you were once on the fence with this one I suggest trying again. Sometimes it may take 2 tries to truly understand the journey a fragrance is meant to take our senses on. <3

Wow, this takes me back to the Dubai nights I used to roam and love!!! This baby is ROSE DONE RIGHT! No leather, no oud, no patchouli, just rose petals, warm spices, wood and sand floating on a bed of tonka and musks. Sensual does not do this justice, it takes you out to the desert dusk, when the heat has just settled down, but you can still feel it in the air infused with erotic rose petals that's enveloping you oh so gently: the rose is not jammy at all, not sweet at all, not dusty at all, not leathery at all, SIMPLY AHAMAZINGGGG! And this only takes one or two sprays on the skin underneath clothes to shine through in the sillage for hours till end. If you're used to over-spraying your other roses, don't overspray with this one, DO NOT OVERSPRAY IT! There's a lot going on here that will simply overwhelm your nose...

To me, from the ratings on here and how few fragcomm friends have smelled this, feels so very criminally underrated and under so many radars. Delectably smooth yet spicy while still being approachable, to my nose this is utterly gorgeous. Sandalwood creamy mixed with the spice from Cardamom, Cinnamon & the biggest spice player in it. Nutmeg. Then add some gorgeous, soft and somewhat sweet Rose to play in the mid to background, in my eyes you've got an absolute winner here. For the past year, when I started collecting, Herod has been my absolute favourite that I've smelled and was lucky enough to buy it before it became harder to find. I think Herod has been usurped by Nuit De Sable, something I honestly didn't see happening for quite some time.

Beautiful freshly grated nutmeg opening. Very photorealistic and I adore it. Dries down into an arboraceous sandalwood and warm, dry sand which is equally hyper-realistic and mellow. Long-lasting performance with moderate silage. I love how nutmeg persists all the way down into the base notes. It won't be a fragrance for everyone, but it is a fragrance for me, Anyone who enjoys Bouquet Ideale by Xerjoff like I do (also very nutmeg-forward) will dig Nuit De Sable, and I think it would be particularly wonderful on a man's skin.

I like perfumes which try to create an impression of a texture. BDK does this quite well with Creme de Cuir and Nuit de Sable. Personally, I like the later named more. The mix of roses and spices (nutmeg especially) in it imitates the heat absorbed by sand so realistic that I can almost feel it flowing trough my hands. I am impressed. Blended very well, the scent gets its sweetness mainly from spices what makes it perfectly unisex (in contrast to Creme de Cuir with its more feminine vanilla). Definitely worth checking out.

THIS...is my husband. Ok.... eye roll to the back of my head on first sniff....YEEEES...if I were to buy a bottle, Hubz would wear this every day. (what happened to "sharing?!") :D My 2 decants from MaxAroma (because I was SURE I'd love this!) are my first intimate meeting with sandalwood. Drying down now & it IS rather "masculine"...but I could wear the ISH out of this!! This is going to be a present for Hubz on my next trip to the states. Oh. Yes.

Radiant pale blue sky with fine stripe formed gold-yellow couds... ... I walk along the beach and the salty breeze envelops and caresses me gently through my white long dress. My hair smells like musk and spices and algae and sea water. My bare feet stir the still warm sand. Drift wood, dry and cracked , lies here and there. The wind brings the fading scent of roses from a garden nearby It is almost sunset...

It truly does bring back memories of a desert evening as the sun sets. Especially in the late dry down. Gentle breeze carrying the scent of velvety soft flowers which don’t exist anywhere else. Warm spice blend and dry, pink rose opening. A buttery note appears in the heart which I interpret as the sand. It flows nicely from start to finish. This is my 11th bottle from BDK. Just a great house overall.

This fragrance is really beautiful. It is warm, spicy, the sandalwood is very well balanced, not too dry, not too creamy. To me, this is wearable all year round, in spring and summer I would wear it in the evening though.

I was given a sample of this, I wasn't expecting anything. First spray, it was warm, spicey, and intoxicating. I absolutely love this. The rose it's taking over, it just hovers as the spices and warmth hug it.

this one is so opulent and addictive. No idea how people are smelling a ‘pee note’ and even know what lizard pee smells like. Don’t trust these Weird people..... This is a unique scent

Warm and a bit dry with resinous spices, sweet dates, and a hint of juicy rose, which I have to hunt for. Gives me a Middle Eastern spice market vibe. Comforting yet sexy.

Wish the sand note was not there, made it a bit screechy and harsh. Sand Note is too strong otherwise its a nice one, needs to get a flanker with less sandiness!

Sexy, smooth dark "sand" accord with florals. Definitely an unlisted honey note runs throughout this; ethereal diaphanous honey. Gorgeous and delicious.

I got this very recently but, decided to declutter. It's beautiful scent...everytime I wear this, I always feel like as if I'm walking in Sahara desert.

I am working my way through my BDK discovery set, and I am consistently quite impressed with this house. I find that their perfumes tend to be classic in structure, but this perfume is more unusual. Nuit de Sable is aptly-named - there is a definite sand-like quality that permeates this scent, à la Dior Dune. Dry, woody, spicy and slightly mineralic, it is very well-rendered. There is a lovely sandalwood note that exists throughout, tying the scent together. While it isn't of the glorious Mysore variety of vintage perfumes, it avoids being harsh or overly synthetic. NdS has a smooth, woody opening opens with savoury cardamom, reminiscent of Indian cooking, green and peppery. I get warmer, sweeter nutmeg, adding body, yet there is a mineralic coolness to this scent. @Characterf.branch below nails it - it smells like the cold outdoor air when snow is imminent. The woody-spicy accord lingers, resembling sand as it develops. There is a hint of salt, contributing to the sand accord. It is very dry - fitting, considering its theme. Spicy rose forms the heart of this scent, with the rose emerging about an hour in. The rose is subtle and slightly powdery, melding well with the sand without taking focus from it. It becomes quite musky as it progresses, with the amber base developing in the background. The ambroxan and tonka smooth things over as it dries down. The smooth sandalwood remains. It all marries nicely with the sand, making for a smooth, logical progression. It fades to a musky, spicy skin scent with the sand effect lingering until final fade. Sillage is moderate and longevity is long-lasting - the musky ambroxan-led drydown lingers for hours. It is an autumn/winter scent despite its beachy theme. While I prefer Dune, NdS features one of the best renderings of sand I've encountered in a perfume. This is an olfactory artwork that won't be to everyone's taste, but is an impressive composition. An unusual take on a sandalwood-rose scent, this is a beach on a bright winter's day. 4/5.

Nuit De Sable, BDK (Revisit note) - actually, Nuit de Sable is floral-woody-musk fragrance that end up soapy. - This construct using 3 mains stage, floral (rose) which assumably mostly fragrance oil, I barely perceive and real side of rose. The sandalwood (which is adjust to be sand accord, it provide soft powdery feel, you could scent something lactonic under and the musk, which confess, I am not am fan - it is AmberMusk, the slight sharp musk uterlize in Montale, Initio, Terenzi) - However, I reall like twist of this, unique This one lure you being the sand accord and rose oxide. Provide soft metalic, sand touch. I think this is fairy unique because it cake it feel of desert with using actual oreintal note. It is oreintal yet but also floral woody musk. - it develope into soft rose, sandalwood and musk. It is slight sharp when sniff upclose, but it is perfect - when you sniff from certain range For refinement venture, I don’t think this will hit your spot, this is not truly refine and you could feel the roughness in scent. However, for unique-estique venture, I think this is a perfect one for you to try. It provide some twist to entertain your nose (while it last). Another perfect audience is oriental lover, and we barely have anything musky from the realm. This is easy to understand and stay true to woody-floral-musk. I don’t like the material in this But I really like the twist. I am enjoying it. When I wear, I always think of Sand of Time, Prince of Persia, can’t help - I love oriental. (This will hang in my collection for now, I might eventually declutter this, If I finally don’t enjoy the usage material in this) 7/10

What an interesting find! I detest rose, and was immediately put off by how strong rose is in the opening, but gave it a chance couple of weeks after the first try. At first all I could smell was in your face rose, but as other people say - the magic is indeed in the dry down. It opens quite harshly - everything is so overwhelmingly strong. The opening reminds me of a humidor. After couple of hours it turns into this luxurious soapy, rosey, cigar scent. It’s a perfect blend of all the notes and I can’t smell each one individually, but every now and again I get a whiff of Tonka, or nutmeg, or sandalwood. Perfectly French, classy, and mature scent.

A tolerable heavy woody rose. Rose was the first note I got, but then the spice and woodiness quickly kicked in. As smoke and woodiness continues coming to the foreground, it reminds me of spiced honey on leather... actually really beautiful. The sandalwood here is warm, creamy, and sweet, not the medicinal quality I get from the note sometimes. On me it’s “masculine” leaning. Another BDK that’s not for the me today, but blended well nonetheless. l appreciate the journey BDK perfumes take me through and will have to revisit this in winter and next year.

This one’s all buttery soft spices, and mellow, almost papery sandalwood. I’m picking up a touch of honey, but only the lightest, airiest suggestion; there’s nothing too syrupy here, nothing sticky or humid. A barely-there rose is the one elusive cool note in an otherwise definitively warm scent. Subtle, savory-sweet late afternoons, fading sunlight. I think I anticipated more of a true evening scent, based on the name- perhaps Soirée de Sable would have been more apropos, or Après-midi. I can’t picture this for after dark; maybe it’s the sand.

Very good fragrance, especially for the price I got it for (like 95 euros for 100ml). Very rose forward, spicy, slightly creamy. I think this could be improved, it lacks a bit of sweetness and performance is a bit underwhelming for the scent profile. It has good performance but I'd prefer more for this profile. Usually, middle eastern themed perfumes like this one are way more potent, this is softer, more subtle. Overall, very good for what it is.

This one is pretty interesting. There is the feeling of hot sand (which is more prominent on paper as opposed to skin, IMO), and I also get the slight urine/animalic vibe someone mentioned. Then largely this is a rose and oud/woods with spices. I'm actually shocked by how much I enjoy this one. Completely unisex. Definitely try on the skin, I find it to be quite different on the skin than paper. Also, I don't get much of the ambroxan (thankfully).

I never thought I'd be into something like Nuit De Sable. Opening is gorgeous, the dry down is a little too sweet spicy for me and brings some mid eastern desserts to mind, but I can still do it. It smells especially amazing from a distance where the rose shines through. There is nothing distinctively masculine about this, very unisex to me. Only to be worn in cold weather though. Give it a try even if you are turned off by BDK.

Ground lightly savory nutmeg becomes a dry, spicy, and herbaceous photorealistic rose with a notably dry effect that definitely evokes 'sand' or 'sandiness'. Very nicely done. I prefer this fall and winter, the nutmeg is very pronounced and that can get overwhelming in warmer months. Projects very loudly off my skin, it's been almost 4 hours and I can still smell it quite strongly.

I got a sample while searching for a new autumn-winter woody perfume. This one is GOOD. STRONG sandalwood with cardamom and nutmeg. The rose note is there in the opening, but disappears into the background and is hardly noticable in the drydown which is woody, dry, warm, earthy, like an October forest walk. Well blended, no harshness or bitterness. Leans masculine IMO.

This is the first time I've ever really enjoyed a rose scent enough to consider adding it to my collection. It's spicy and masculine, not overly sweet, it's beautiful. Edit: strange, on my second wearing of this I just get a boring hand soapy/powdery rose that I’m not a big fan of.

Don't think of beaches, think of desserts in the night. When it gets so cold it almost freezes and you need a fire to keep warm. Thats this scent. Spices, dry sand, cold air, warm wood. I don't get any fresh rose. Possible some dried rose petals.

Fresh pack of cigarettes. Or I'd even say certain cigars. Intoxicating enough as if someone were smoking right next to you. More masculine, still unisex imo. Certainly unique. Very French.

Today's fragrance will be BDK's Nuit De Sable. I'll admit I had to look this one up in the translator. I've worn enough fragrances to know what "nuit" means, but the "sable" stumped me. Turns out it translates to "sandy night". So what will this translate to in terms of fragrance? The scent of a beach at night? A night club fragrance with beachy vibes? I'm not really sure, but I'm curious. Let's get into it and find out; Scent: The opening is woody, spicy, and sweet. The primary notes I get are nutmeg, sandalwood, Turkish rose, and sand. The strongest of the notes are the nutmeg and sandalwood. The nutmeg is the first note to hit my nose off the initial spray as a punchy and assertive warm spiciness accentuated by an underlying sweetness. Right behind the nutmeg is the sandalwood, adding its usual creamy woodiness to the mix. It reminds me a bit of the sandalwood from LV Lovers; strong and noticeable but not spicy or "pickly" like sandalwood from Santal 33. Up next is the Turkish rose and sand. True to its archetype, the Turkish rose note is sweet and floral. However, of all the Turkish rose notes I've smelled, this is the only one that has had such a distinct honey note to it that I swore there was honey somewhere in the note breakdown. Lastly, the sand note lingers in the background as a warm, solar, and slightly earthy accord. It gives the opening a "beachy" vibe without going so heavy that it becomes the overarching theme. The dry down is sweet, woody, and floral. The primary notes I get are still sandalwood, Turkish rose, nutmeg, and sand. The strongest of the notes are the sandalwood and Turkish rose. The Turkish rose is the focus of the dry down to me, and comes in heavy with the honeyed floral note from the opening. Behind the rose is the sandalwood with the same creamy woodiness, just a bit more subtle. This is followed by the nutmeg and sand. The nutmeg is still present in the dry down with the same spicy sweetness, but it's more of a supporting note as opposed to how it was a main note in the opening. Lastly, the sand still hangs out in the background like it did in the opening with the same solar, beachy vibe. It's worth noting that from the opening to the dry down, the honey accord from the Turkish rose is very apparent. Performance: Initial projection within the first hour is strong at around 6 feet. Sillage matches that intensity with an easily noticeable scent trail. After a few hours the projection was about 3-4 feet and the scent trail was lighter but still noticeable. The fragrance lasted about 7-8 hours before fading away into a skin scent. When to wear: Nuit De Sable is a spring/summer fragrance that can be worn during the daytime or evening. It is more of an easy-going fragrance suitable for anything you'd wear casual clothes to, but I wouldn't wear it for anything formal. This wouldn't be something I'd pick for office wear either. Blind buy: If you like sweet honey fragrances this is a safe blind buy for you. Final verdict: Nuit De Sable was something of a conundrum for me. On the one hand, there is a distinct sandy, beachy vibe to the fragrance from the featured sand note. On the other hand, the honeyed sweetness from the Turkish rose is really the star of the show here, and doesn't play into the name of "sandy night" at all. A name like Honey Rose would be more apt. In terms of performance Nuit De Sable wasn't the strongest BDK I've tried, but was no slouch either; strong projection and sillage for about the first hour, tapering off afterwards, and last about 7-8 before becoming a skin scent. When it comes to versatility, I'll call this fragrance average. Good for spring or summer, day or night, but only for casual occasions; nothing formal or business-related. For mass-appeal I'll throw this one somewhere between average and below average; slightly below average? It's very sweet, and it'll be too sweet for a lot of people. Other people will think the beachy sand note is a bit too weird. It's not a challenging fragrance at all, but it's not something that's going to be a compliment magnet. To wrap this up, I think BDK really needs to rethink the name of this fragrance because it is a bit misleading. Besides that tt's not really my type of DNA, and it's a bit too feminine for me anyway, so I'll pass on a full bottle. Scent: 6/10 Longevity: 7/10 Sillage: 7/10

Nuit de Sable represents a different take than Guerlain’s for instance on a rose scent. A more traditional Middle Eastern scent , woody, spicy, earthy, semi sweet rose with a very pungent, dusty nutmeg note. To put it simply it smells like potpourri to me! It’s not a bad scent but it’s not how I would like to smell when I’m wearing a rose scent, that’s for sure. I don’t mind nutmeg in fragrances and I love cardamom, rose, tonka beans, musk and sandalwood. As far as the sand note goes, I don’t know what to make of it in a fragrance composition...But it makes sense to add it in the pyramid of notes since it’s in the name of the fragrance. But I feel that Nuit de Sable has too much nutmeg and I don’t like how it’s mixed with the other notes. It feels heavy and overpowers everything else. Nuit de Sable smells like an old lady rose fragrance to me. A bit musty as well... The performance of this is impressive. It opens with a very strong and intense rose smell and remains a very powerful scent with moderate sillage until it fades away. Not the right type of rose for my liking.

An interesting Arabic take on rose by BDK. Nuit De Sable (NdS) is a classically-Arabic spicy rose scent, with a soft feminine touch. Oriental rose, mixes with lightly-woody sandalwood, & rough (sandy?) dry spices, to a give a spicy, rosey, lightly-woody scent. The tonka beans feminize the scent with a touch of sweetness. Sand sounds like a weird note but in NdS you do get a rough, dusty accord. As it dries down, you do get slight musky fluffiness made up for ambroxan & musk. The resultant smell is warm, sweet, spicy, rosey, oriental, lightly-woody, & dusty. It is quite Arabic & quite feminine. NdS is sexy but there is some roughness to it that holds it from being a drop-dead gorgeous scent. I believe it is the sand note & the "amount" of sandalwood. That combo smells like cloves here. Personally, I would have preferred NdS smoother, without the aforementioned roughness. Perhaps that roughness was added so they can slab "unisex" next to the name". Nonetheless, NdS is a lovely fragrance that would smell best on mature women on cool nights. "Like"

***Edit- the magic happens in the dry down. Everytime I catch a whif, I find myself breathing it in deeper. There’s just something about it. I find the dry down quite enchanting, bumping my rating up to a solid 8*** I don’t even know where to begin with this fragrance. I find it to be very confusing to my nose, and hard to describe. There is something that I both find intoxicating and detest about this scent. To me it smells like when the air is cold, and you know snow it on the way. When the trucks start laying down rock salt. But it also smells like starting a bonfire at the beach, after a long day of swimming when the ocean water has dried on your skin and made it slightly salty, mixing with embers floating in the air. At the same time if I put my nose to skin after spraying it’s very reminiscent of walking through a spice bazaar in the middle of a hot desert. The sand note is definitely prominent. I wish I could detect the rose and tonka, as I’m sure I’d love it then. Honestly I might return it and get Gris Charnel. Overall a 6.5/10

I'm really impressed with the projection on this one. I get lots of sandalwood, nutmeg and cardamom which to me comes across very VERY dry on the nose. Definitely a good one for those that hate sweet scents. The rose is there to be in the shadows a little but it's definitely there if you try find it. Adds a slight touch of elegance to the dryness of the fragrance. Oddly I do get the sand note being listed as well lol. Reminds me of being on a glorified desert. Very well crafted but personally not for me. I can definitely respect this fragrance for what it is though.

Very tasty and very bizarre at the same time. For one, it smells like a high-quality dessert. Similar to Tom Ford Noir Extreme, only slightly sharper and stronger. On the other hand, a urine note is recognizable. But by no means unpleasant, on the contrary! It even looks erotic. I will test this fragrance more often. Different times of day and at different temperatures. Only then will I make a final judgement. But so far I like it! Update: Unfortunately, the fragrance loses this bizarre touch and now smells like honey. I don't think that's a good thing.

This is a very unique fragrance for those who love more heavy scents. On my skin it smells like a nice warm rice pudding with cinnamon, spices and rose water sprinkles on top. It's very warm, it creates a cosy feeling and I'd say it is a gourmand fragrance. Definitely for autumn and winter, has very good longevity and wrist length projection. Not sure if I would wear at work but give it a try if you like any of these notes. After a few hours it starts smelling like honey.

I think I mixed my samples and now I have trouble telling them apart... This one is gorgeous but a tad bit too strong and rough. I think it's the combination of cardamom and nutmeg that throws me off... too bad, otherwise this would be really nice. Edit: Dries down to something more smooth and comfortable. I will give this a try in a much cooler weather and I will see what it brings. Not fan of the opening, loving the drydown so far.

This opens with a big blast of fragrant rose. HUGE even. Then the florals fade and it settles down to a heavy on the nutmeg almost skin scent that is lightly woody spicy. No really interested balancing and mixing of the 2 phases. Overall, pleasant but tame and dull. I don't see any risks taken here or anything particularly notable.

The opening is very spicy but leans almost sharp/sour. In the dry down the rose becomes more apparent but it's rather subtle on me. Perfectly unisex but definitely on the mature side. Warm, cozy and classy once it's settled, but I would like it a lot more if it wasn't so confusing for the first half hour.

This is a really funny scent. It smells like a cat. I used to have a cat. I think I will use up this sample. It's very funny and I miss my cat. I think it's not useful for me longterm, but a fun vacation in a cat home/cafe. Edit: Could be a dog, too.

nope, don't like it at all. there's something in this (i suspect it's the nutmeg) that I really do not like. this was a scrubber for me. edit: tried it again and it wasn't as bad as i recall. still just okay tho.

It’s okay, nice and pleasant, but nothing breathtaking or even distinguishable from other perfumes.

The most classic-smelling BDK perfume I've tried so far from my discovery box. Straight out of the bottle it's an old-fashioned spicy rose that reminds me of my grandmother's dressing table. There's something sharp about it, but it feels like it's on purpose rather than discordant; the sandy description makes sense here. Five or ten minutes in the rose recedes and we get more spice, particularly the nutmeg. Florals are tricky on me; unfortunately, this one reacts in such a way that there's a faint smell of urine. Not the perfume's fault, but as soon as I'd noticed it I couldn't un-smell it and had to wash it off, so sadly I can't report on the dry-down!

Blind bought this and it's one of my biggest regrets. It smells like salty, dry, hot sand with a dash of a dense rose and a BO undertone. Does resemble Gris Charnel a bit due to the shared notes but if you have the money to buy Nuit de Sable, just buy Gris Charnel instead. It's much MUCH better. Ended up giving my bro who just uses any unisex perfume that I don't want. He likes it and has been telling me how amazing it smelled and lasted all day on him. I personally also think it smells better on a guy. Better for colder months.
