mb03

I recently tried a few samples of this fragrance based on Base Notes reviews and a few other sources. Because of what I am currently looking for in a scent, Biehls MB03 seemed like a good bet, albeit a very pricey one! After doing some research and listening to a few converts, Biehl MB03 seemed like an incense fragrance I might want to wear and own. I couldn't wait to try this scent when the samples arrived. This is a nice enough fragrance and I like it a lot. Initially I felt rather disappointed after wearing MB03 a few times and overall, this scent left me with a big "HUH...I do not understand all the fuss!" While I like this fragrance a lot, I did not find it to be terribly outstanding or unique. With all the P.R. and press about Biehl's "fragrance labs," etc, I guess I was expecting something truly original, outstanding and highly unique. Instead after wearing MB03 a few times, I found myself thinking, "Okay...this is nice enough but somehow, I just don't get it." For me, the dry down of this fragrance turned a bit too powdery. I also kept detecting a prevalent note that just didn't sit right with me...a note that almost smelled a bit rancid or odd. Again, the dry down didn't seem to work well with my chemistry. For the price, I did not think the longevity was good at all. Also, not enough sillage for my taste. I think if I have to drop $265 on 3.3 ml of an EDT, I'll stick with my beloved Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur. This is a beautiful scent but it just didn't quite cut it for me.

Biehl sent me some samples, with mb02, i bought. It was a nice surprise and big fun to try all those perfumes. About mb03...reading the notes, i would never imagine, that i would like it, because i don't like patchouli and i have my doubts about amber, resin and chamomile. However, is a very warm and attractive perfume ,adorable for men. I will wear it (from the sample) sometimes, even i'm a woman, because i loved it , but i will not give so much money to buy a bottle. I am content with Biehl mb02!

I really like this perfume, a quite direct and simple description would be that it smells close to the same as the smell of freshly burnt frankincense with a slight sweetness to it which comes close to myrrh and a tiny touch of musk. The thing that talks against MB03 is however sadly that it has tiny sillage that makes you quite quickly start doubting if it's even there. If it had better sillage I would love it and likely use it as a signature scent however without some form of scent-aura forming it just becomes boring in my opinion. If you have the chance to sample it, I would recommend doing so since it's a very pleasant smell but a whole bottle at the pricepoint that it carries is just too much.

A lovely frankincense fragrance, very realistic incense smoke, very purifying and realistic. As it develops I get a sweetness build up against the resinous darkness of the incense made up mostly of the caramel facets of benzoin. I also get more woodiness as it develops. Very nice, minimalist, perhaps too expensive for what it is, but compared to something like Encens Suave, which is very similar this is a better value.

I like this because of the similarity to L'air du Desert Marocain. It gives me a sense of space, a clear, golden light-filled incense, and a grounding frame of wood. This one seems cooler and thinner and a tad more masculine. In general Mark Buxton woodsy scents are great. I like my decant, like the clarity and simplicity, but don't think I would buy a full bottle as long as I have LDDM.

I think this smells lovely. I love Avignon and this seems brighter in comparison. As if someone just opened the heavy door to the church and filled the hall with light and some fresh air hehe. Unfortunately it seems a bit weak.

For me, it's a colder and more detached version of Avignon with much more chamomile and moss in it. And unfortunately, much less performant.

This is a smell of brick walls and all dark shades in the city in the night ;o)) Love it ;o)

Boring. I surely can't find this unisex and even on a man I find this totally uninteresting. Just another one of those spicy aftershavy things.

mb03 has a pleasant pink pepper top note, which ushers in a straightforward "churchy" incense note. Unlike Sahara Noir, this Catholic mass incense is relatively sheer, and framed by elemi (sort of an oily-peppery pine-like aroma), musky wood notes, and subtly-blended labdanum. The overall tonality and texture of the fragrance is good, and Buxton's approach to benzoin is restrained, and not over-the-top sweet. Perfumes like this are a pleasure to wear because they "waft" well. I get hints of this throughout the day, but at times it disappears. When it reappears, it wafts up from my chest and reminds me of why I love the smell of incense. It's lighter and simpler than others in this category, but mb03 is well made and exhibits quality materials. Good for people of the poetic persuasion.

There is an undeniably common facet between dried chamomile and frankincense, and it instantly brings me a certain emotion, something from my childhood, I guess. Maybe it's literally the chamomile tea I had as a kid and the church at the other side of the street. A calming feeling of innocence and persistent mystery, the memory of staying under a shade in the summer heat. Later on, MB03 goes into a soft therapeutic woody base, a night time lullaby of sandalwood and cashmeran, then even a deeper one out of almost animalic musk, amber, patchouli. Even then, there are still occasional glimpses of incensed chamomile dust, keeping the clarity.

Before dissecting any one person's review, repeat 195 dollars 3 times. Now that you have that figure logged into your brain,.....the unique blend of pink pepper and chamomile radiate and highlights the warm spicy content in mb03. The labdanum's sweet substance mixed with the softness of the powdery sandlewood smooths out any harsh accords. The wood and musk are the main pillars keeping this fragrance from becoming all too feminine while keeping the entire composition in check. Another great oriental but I'm kind of wrestling with the longevity, price and familiarity.

First of all, I like MB3, I like Mark Buxton's creations and I totally loved a bunch of them such as CDG 2 Man or CDG Original but we really needed another one like Avignon, Around Midnight, Cardinal? This is a good, dark church-y incense but, unfortunately, it's really too similar to the ones I mentioned which are cheaper and much more readily available (Avignon anyone?). Rating: 6/10

Perfumes by Mark Buxton are always a bit the same. "MB 03" smells like "Around Midnight" and both are similar to "Comme des Garcons" "2 Man" - a Mark Buxton scent, too. They ́re all not bad - you feel like being in a catholic church (because of the incense) - but in my opinion a perfume designer should be more creative. You can also compare Linari and MB 02 ...
