The Antikythera Mechanism

The first time I applied this, I was hit with a strong blast of bug spray. I immediately classified this as a failed experiment and a total scrubber. But shortly after I let the oil settle on my skin, Antikythera Mechanism turned into one of the most gorgeous perfumes I had ever come across in my life. I kept sniffing and sniffing and falling in love with it a little more each time. The tobacco and teak make it seem like this would be too sharp and smoky, but the vanilla really gives the blend a golden warmth. Fantastic longevity - a couple of dabs will last the whole day. I haven't found very many scents to love in the BPAL catalog, but the ones I do love, I LOVE. This is one I'll want to keep buying forever. This is my comfort scent, what I wear when I feel like I just can't catch a break. I can get a little depressed when it's been too long since I've seen the sun, and this always cheers me up - it absolutely glows in the wintertime. This is a perfume I wear just for me.

This was my gateway scent to BPAL and after the initial shock of "this is so strong", I entered into the world of creamy wood and tobacco. Thousands of indie perfumes later, this remains a favorite. L9ng lasting and comforting.

There is a hint of something reminiscent of that Goop hand cleaner my dad used to keep in his garage, and I couldn't get past that.

Oooh this is my first BPAL I can smell-smell (might be because my lot had travel shock) but I was feeling really let-down about the brand until I tried this sample and now I get it and I hope all my others samples and 5mls get like this after some rest. This is stunning!!! It is delicious! Woody-tobacco and a mouth watering creamed vanilla. Somehow smoother and more unusual than you would expect from the listed notes so I think there's definitely something else in here but it's unique for sure. A little sad I didn't get copper/brass-metallic notes as I expected fron the description but it's so enjoyable that I forgive BPAL. I only have a sample of this one but I would FS this one for sure.

Goes on peanuts for me, like many BPAL scents. I think it's their base oil. Then that becomes teakwood, but with that particular edge that reminds me of peanuts. Suddenly without warning, a mossy note arrives, very clear and the peanuts are gone. Scent fades almost completely away, just nose-pressing works to sniff what’s left, just a faint waft of smooth vanilla wood, very nice and quite lovely, but so faint it’s still a nose presser. It is a very warm, woody comfort scent in the end

Update: This has become one of my favourite scents of all time and I thankfully now have a full size little bottle and a hair gloss as well as the sample.. I suppose I should be savouring it as apparently it is now discontinued but life is short and I will enjoy every last drop of these until I run out. If anyone knows of anything similiar in an EDP or something to replace it when I do run out, please please let me know because this is my comfort scent!

I would say this was a predominantly masculine scent but not out of the question for a woman to wear, woody with a vanillic warmth. I would love it more but these scents with oak/teak can give me a headache. Super lasting power and very strong. Dab, don't drench, as the previous poster also suggested this has the potential to stun at four paces if over applied.
