Broken Glass

The opening is cold, sharp, strange, somewhat unsettling but still compelling. Broken Glass is a great descriptor for the initial blast. Very quickly after that, the aromatic herbal side develops and the geranium and spicy pepper are very intense for the first hour. Then the angelica starts to reveal itself. The dry down is to die for! It settles into a very warm vanillic angelica that reminds me of Angelique Noire. This is the angelica fragrance I have been searching for! I'm hooked. This one is such a morpher. I am interested to see how it develops on others. It is listed as a floral fragrance but it certainly isn't a typical floral. It starts as a spicy herbal aromatic that could probably be considered very masculine but the dry down is sweet and vanillic and might be considered more feminine. It's a wonderful journey nonetheless.

This might be one of my favourites. Initially it's sharp and green, herbal and fresh. Something Blackbird does well, is herbal perfumes. It smells like summer even though I don't like wearing it during. Once settled, my favourite thing about this perfume happens: the woody, spicy and peppery notes come forward in such a perfect balance it feels comforting and nostalgic, but incredibly intriguing at the same time. To me, it smells like wooden display cases full of butterflies and a library with stained glass windows the sun is slowly setting behind, and wooden shelves full of dusty non-fiction. I can't stop myself from occasionally smelling my clothes or wrists, closing my eyes, and imagine myself on the floor of that library not sure what I'm looking for. If this one ever gets discontinued I wouldn't know how to console myself.

Thank you to Blackbird for the opportunity to try this scent. Broken Glass is the most unique floral I've tried in some time. I believe the house mentioned this was their first foray into a true floral scent. And while it is a floral, you'll also find a lot of the earthy, resinous and spicy notes that are more typical of the Blackbird fragrance collection. Broken Glass is definitely a unisex floral. There's a fair dose of spices here that keeps the sweet and typically feminine floral edge of the fragrance in check. There's a bitter green tint as well, from artemisia and violet leaf. It's a wonderfully complex fragrance that moves from cold to warm as it dries down from flowers to roots. Broken Glass has great sillage and longevity at 6+ hours.

I adore more challenging, herbaceous scents. Broken Glass is absolutely the ticket - just what I was looking for. I love the pungent, almost cinnamon accord of angelica root, and the bracing green of geranium. On me, it starts off with a vegetal blast, seeming almost "too much" from a distance. It then turns into a spicy, incense-blend before settling into more a rosey, vanilla musk. Absolutely love it. Very original, very modern, likely not a crowd pleaser. This would be either a more masculine scent, or for a woman who is all sharp corners and quick words.

Upon spraying, I was greeted by a strange, pungent chemical scent which quickly diffused into a delightfully spicy floral. The spicy in resinous notes tone down the florals, resulting in a warm and dreamy unisex fragrance. Maintains its mystique through the dry down, but may be challenging for some. Good sillage and longevity. I ordered this sample on a whim, but Broken Glass has quickly become one of my favorites, only getting better with each wear.

Lovely and spicy yet not heavy. I think it’s perfect for a brisk autumn or winter day that’s not too cold.

Spicy and slightly sweet to me. I don’t smell much florals but this is very nice.

On the initial spray, this was very cool, mysterious, slightly chemical and otherworldly. But almost *immediately* the florals and spices rise up. The pepper and cardamom notes are the ones I smell the most. This isn't to say the spice/resin notes dominate: the accord is really well balanced. I don't usually wear florals, so I have a tougher time recognizing them/setting them apart. Perhaps it's the geranium and angelica sticking out, but I swear I can really smell the chamomile. This is truly a unisex scent, as neither the florals or spices dominate fully (although the spices are much stronger in the early stages). As dry-down time goes by, it does get a little sweeter and softer and much more femme. I already have enough spicy perfumes, so this one is a pass for me, but overall a great blend, and would recommend for anyone looking for a complex spicy/floral/resin scent.

This scent really grew on me. The fist time I wore it i was really turned off by the initial green, sharp aftershave type of smell it gave off. It felt really grassy and astringent like to me. Once it settles into your skin, it really changes though! It evokes a memory of mine where I found broken glass while smelling some flowers behind a church. I felt curious... how did this glass get here? The florals & spices really come out in the dry down in a way that works beautifully with my skin. This is a curious scent. This scent is for successful risk-takers. Since it is complex, I could see it being for a chic rocker girl whose into couture. Although, I find it fades away and I don’t catch a whiff of it as I walk around. Blackbird scents are a unique experience that provides a wide range of emotions in a single scent.

the initial smell reminds me of a gin and tonic, but that sharpness quickly settles down into a resinous and sweet aroma. there's something about the geranium and resin combination that also makes this smell distinctly "new age", like the combined odor of a million incence sticks and essential oils that hangs in the air of those tarot and crystal shops. it has that characteristic dustiness to it as well, which reminds me of potpourri. floral, but more like dried flowers than fresh spring blossoms or warm summer florals. the citrusy amyris also gives it a hint of candied lemon peel not the kind of scent i enjoy, but definitely if you want a hippie vibe that isn't patchouli, this could be up your alley

Immediately striking opening. Cherry-cough syrup oozing out of the pistil of some extraterrestrial flower in a steaming interstellar greenhouse made of raw concrete. Once the syrup evaporates a woolen blanket absorbs the moisture hanging in the air and the fluorescent lights flicker on. It was a carnation, not some space flower, and the mineralic verdant quality of the concrete greenhouse was actually an interesting blend of pink pepper and violet leaf supporting the carnation with a spicy backbone. Further along in the drydown I most certainly detect some jammy rose humming along in the background. As it dries it begins to feel a little cheap for some reason, perhaps the almond's doughy sweetness stomps over the carnation's toes and overstays it's welcome. Still, this is a very fun fragrance that is appealing in a similar way to a favorite of mine, Triton. 7/10

I get clove, angelica, spicy florals, and sweet resin. It's well-blended and warm, like bitters in an amber-colored cocktail. There is also something unsettling and untraceable about this scent. It makes me think of the ruinous Piers of New York, which once served as grounds for anonymous sex between men, as depicted in the photographs of Alvin Baltrop, Peter Hujar, Leonard Fink, and Gordon Matta-Clark. Broken glass, rusted steel, dappled sunlight, sinuous weeds, and wet wood (in more ways than one). Something gorgeous and tragic.

I am really enjoying this. Well blended floral with some resinous and soft spicy notes, but this isn’t jagged to me (like broken glass) but rather rounded, cozy, beautiful. I can pick out jammy rose, myrhh, almond, chamomile and cardamom. It’s a little peppery to start, then floral/herby, and dries down slightly powdery but warm, like an amazing Lush smell. This is a beautiful perfume!

It smells like carnation, cloves and geranium and reminds me of Etro's Dianthus. Much more wearable and light though due to angelica. This combination of notes is memorable and quite unique, so it may become your signature scent very quickly. I see it on a very rich confident woman who wears fur and expensive jewelry.
