Hallow V.2

Another love for blackbird as they are definitely up there with favorite indie/niche houses. This one is definitely one of the most versatile fragrances that I’ve ever smelled but a great fragrance by itself as well. Starting with the scent itself. It’s a very elegant and resinous oud that has rolling notes of mint and rose. Alternating between the two notes until about 2 hours in. After which, it becomes a very simple resinous oud. Super sophisticated and sexy yet equally inviting and cuddly. With moderate projection and longevity. As for it being versatile. Because of how simple and inoffensive this scent is: it’s a great layering scent. I’ve found this to provide some extra warmth to a fresh scent, or even deepen some of my more moderate to deeply resinous scents that I own/own samples of. I think if you are really new to niche and want to try something safe that most if not everyone will like: get it. Or even for those more experienced noses and collectors, it’s a good layering scent for your other bottles,

I just received the sample set, and I THINK this is the version in it. No notes with the sample pack, unfortunately. First spray is an interesting burst of mint followed by oud mixed with benzoin and amber. I still get a teeny bit of mint at the midnotes, but it's really a predominantly oud/amber perfume from then on out. Drydown happens so fast! I do like this blend, but it's sweet for my tastes, and where is the marzipan? This may be a thing with most blackbird perfumes, i've tried 4 from my sampler set now, and the only one with moderate sillage and good staying power is Targa (so far!).

the first whiff is something akin to root beer, maybe closer to birch beer. sweet and resinous, but the woodiness keeps this from going in the sickly, rotting direction i find that sweet amber can go. for that reason, i actually like it more than most amber scents i've smelled. it has enough complexity to be compelling, but still feels cozy. there's a dusty element that makes this resemble incense or an antique chest of drawers. i can't smell either the rose or the mint, which is disappointing loses most of its sillage by the third hour amber is not for me, but if you're looking for an interesting amber to try, this is both pleasant and a bit strange

The fraternal twin tomb scent to Blackbird’s Death. Where Death is the damp, mossy, cold stone tomb, Hallow is the dusty, arid, resinous desert tomb. The rose and mint arrive in a medicinal flash and leave quickly. Balmy, waxy, benzoin and dusty olibanum hover close and remain. I haven’t really found the marzipan?? I like this. It’s weird and warm, cozy but not cloying. As when I wear Death, it’s more for the personal experience of inhabiting the tomb, than inviting others in. Though I don’t imagine this being off-putting, just not alluring either. I don’t regret following my intuition and blind-buying this.

Love blackbird perfumes and incense. I don’t really pick up on many of the notes besides incense and sweetness from marzipan (although not very almondy). This perfume is pretty simple and is a great effortless every day scent for resin/incense lovers. Considering a full bottle because this is an easy to wear, unique, and pleasing scent I could see myself reaching for on a regular basis. The kind of perfume where other people may not even be able to tell you’re wearing perfume - they just think that you naturally smell really, really good. My favorite kind of scent.
