Sacro E Profano

I came across Sacro e Profano at a heavily discounted price and decided to blind buy it, knowing my soft spot for rose/oud combinations. I already own several takes on this theme, but I’m always intrigued by interpretations that bring something new. This one, however, completely bewitched me. From the very first wear, it struck me as beautifully composed — refined yet deeply emotional. The dry down, in particular, is possibly the best I’ve ever experienced. It turns into something intimate, comforting, almost addictive — a warm, elegant cocoon of scent that feels sensual, perfectly living up to its name. What really sets Sacro e Profano apart, in my opinion, is the bright citrus note — an orange nuance that, together with the saffron, transforms the usual rose-oud accord into something more luminous. The rose itself isn’t dominant; rather, it smooths and balances the composition. The oud is exceptionally well-behaved — never dirty or animalic, not even in the opening. Projection is good, though it tends to calm down rather quickly, and longevity is solid but not extraordinary. That said, I’ve been rather conservative with the number of sprays, given it’s an extrait. I see Sacro e Profano as a fragrance best suited for the colder months, and while it’s elegant enough for special occasions, it’s also perfectly wearable in professional settings — sophisticated without being overwhelming. And finally, the presentation: Bois 1920 bottles are a delight — simple, elegant, and beautifully crafted, whether in the 50ml (and the prestige collectipn) or 100ml format.

It's such an addictive fragrance. There's a brief moment when you smell something fecal from the oud. After that, the orange comes in. To be honest, I don't really smell the rose that much, it's just hanging in the background. My goodness, I want a bottle of this! Update 06/30/2026: Tried to stretch my decant by only wearing it on special occasions. Got a few compliments while wearing it. Really glad I finally got a full bottle. Scent: 10/10 Projection: 8/10 Longevity: 8.5/10

One of the better oud fragrances I have tried. Very pleasant and office friendly. It is best enjoyed on a night out. In my opinion, a better version of TF oud wood

#1548 in my "Tour de Fragrance" As a marketing guy I would have expected a scent called "Sacred and Profane" to combine incense (the sacred) and chili pepper (for the flames of perdition), or maybe an animalic oud instead of the westernized oud this employs. Pink pepper is as close as they went to the theme the name invokes. More a contrast of orange and oud, and not churchy in any way. Many scents out there like this. The more gourmand Swiss Arabian "Shaghaf Oud Elixir" leaves out the citrus, adds in praline. Vilhelm Parfumerie's "Smoke Show" just leaves out the citrus. Electimuss "Octavian", leaves out the citrus and adds olibanum. Alfred Dunhill "Arabian Desert" swaps bergamot for the orange note, adds incense and jasmine, and for my money is the best of the dozens of scents in this category. While this is reasonably priced, the Dunhill is cheaper. Jacques Bogart "One Man Show 24K Edition" is a slightly more floral version of this that's just as wearable. I blind bought it for for $23 and I'm happy with it. That said, this is a really nice, very wearable scent. It is the 14th Bois 1920 scent I've tried. I'd give passing grades to 11 of them including this one. I'd classify this as unisex, but very slightly masculine leaning. Good quality, like every Bois 1920 scent has been so far. Versatile for any environment and any purpose. Can't imagine anyone disliking this very pleasant and comfortable scent.
