Jones Beach

As noted by the brand, Jones Beach is a fragrant representation of sand, surf, sunshine, bare skin and bare feet. In this reviewer's opinion, Bond No. 9 has remarkably and very successfully achieved its goal. Like the similar (but noticeably different) Fire Island, Jones Beach conjures up coastal breezes, salty air and most cleverly the lightly sweet musky scent of skin that has been in the sun. Where Fire Island goes heavily for a just applied 'sunscreen on skin' vibe, I think Jones Beach instead opts for how your skin might smell at the end of a day at the beach. That is, once your sunscreen has mostly worn off. Looking at the brand's published notes, aside from the white musk, you would not expect a combination of Calone, Orange Flower Absolute, Ambrox & Violet to achieve such a clear representation of skin that is not shower fresh clean, but not dirty either. It's the smell of skin that has been in and out of salt water and since dried in the sun. Although not listed as a note, I swear that I detect a small amount of tuberose here as well. As I have come to expect from Bond No. 9, the performance is outstanding. On my skin it lasts an entire work day and I can still clearly smell it when I'm changing out of my work clothes at the end of the day. I've now worn this several times to work and out on the weekends and at least a few of my friends and colleagues have commented positively about how nice it smelt. It's not nearly as powerful as Fire Island, but that OK with me. I think that Jones Beach is meant to be a more understated fragrance. This is a very fun, relaxed and not too serious offering from Bond No. 9 and it gets 2 thumbs way up and 5 stars from me.

This one is sure to bring out a double whammy of haters because, one, it's Bond, and two, it has calone as a listed note. I bet a lot of the downvotes are from people who haven't even smelled it. Now, I'm no Bond apologist (some of the criticism is very valid), but objectively, they have some very well done scents, although probably more misses than hints. All of that is to say that I like to think of myself as having a neutral opinion on the Company overall. Anyway, as for this one, it is the absolute best Bond that I've ever smelled, and it's exactly what I've been looking for in an everyday three season rich freshie. The mix of light melony fruit plus a hint of ambrox and florals nails the sweet spot of being light, but balanced with sufficient but not overpowering body... and it lasts a reeeeally long time. I think that's actually the recipe for success that you see with Aventus, not that they smell at all the same. I would liken it to the balance achieved in a malty unfiltered IPA. Anyway, don't let others sway you. Get your nose on it, wear it for a while because it gets better as it goes along, decide for yourself, but never - and I repeat, NEVER- pay full retail for this. I'm sure it'll be available on the grey market for less than half price in a few months.

This is in no way a kiddy scent yet it has a "coming of age" vibe. Aquatic to the point of almost feeling submerged. This Bond reminds me more of lake beach than ocean beach. It`s slightly brash and busy, but like the fourth of July, a ton of fun. I`m enjoying this summer appropriate musk. It has a plasticky, motor oil richness that never gets too crazy. The dirty parts round out the florals. The very human sebaceous quality is alluring. It`s sexy in an" I`m dating my mechanic" sort of way. Don`t look for any fun tropical cocktails here. Jones Beach is more like wine coolers spilled in the parking lot right along with the Red Solo Cups and Styrofoam coolers that transport them. The more I wear this the more I like it. Forever young.

One reviewer ever said that Bond's fragrances were hit and miss... When they hit it, it would be quite iconic, and when they miss it, it would be a disaster. They release (correct me if I'm wrong) about 4 or 5 regular fragrances in 2019, the first one that caught me was Greenwich Village... And then they released some not memorable fragrances... Then came Jones Beach. Jones Beach for me is a hit. This is a clean and happy perfume, with a lot of musk and orange blossom, maybe it's not groundbreaking, but it's a very pleasant unisex fragrance. I cant detect the calone, so for anyone who hates seaweed marine vibe, this one is really worth testing. Moderate silage but longlasting.

I am completely enchanted by this scent! There’s something very nostalgic about it. Besides the obvious white floral notes (I personally smell honeysuckle), the “funk” that some other people have described reminds me of a freshly wet bathing suit after a day at the beach. I’m immediately transported to childhood trips to Galveston: something plastic-y and uniquely 90s (maybe a Barbie doll smell?), sunscreen, seaweed, and clean sweat. When I wear this, it’s 1996, and I fall asleep in the back of mom’s minivan wrapped in my damp towel, comparing sunburns with my best friend and beach boys playing softly in the background.

I have the ENTIRE Bond No 9 house! By far this is in my top 3! I love this. I grew up in New York and this fragrance takes be back to Jones Beach!! I can smell the oranges blossoming with my feet in the sand and the sun warming my skin! Makes my mouth water writing this review! This one is a game changer! By far better than Fire Island and Coney Island...it is a must own!! Even though it is a true spring and summer scent I am wearing it after Christmas! lol...true love for this fragrance!

This was a blind buy for me. I immediately feared I didn’t like it, and the initial spray/wear I still wasn’t sold. After I wore it once I’d catch interesting whiffs of it and then I was all in! Kinda weird at first but sunny, complex and interesting. I had multiple people ask me what I was wearing at a wedding.

Reminds me of a less fem fire island. It's like how certain bonds are like fun beachy.. this is like more classy beachy. Worth checking out.

This is an interesting one. Very abstract aquatic without overt aquatic notes except for calone. I have many aquatics to compare but this is different than all I own or have tried. The calone is not overdosed like Penhaligon Blasted Heath. It doesn't smell like beachwalk or solei blanc which are more suntan lotion, and it's not tropical like virgin island water. It's more abstract like Aqua Motu from Comptoir or Montale Sandflowers. This is orange blossoms with a touch of sea. It smells like a beach without salt or seaweed. Replace salt and seaweed with Musky Pheromones. Like you've been hanging out at the beach and the smell mixes with your skin. It's hard to describe but when you smell it you'll know it. I like it for the art and it makes me appreciate Acqua Motu a bit more because it's slightly better than Jones Beach. In that one they replicate the smell of pheromones and sand really well. Artwork in a bottle. Relaxing to me but I like wierd frags. I could see why most people dislike it. Worth a full bottle? Probably not IMO. Worth a larger decant just for the artistic appreciation? Yes. Scent 7/10 Performance 7/10

I wouldn't class this fragrance as a citrus aromatic by any stretch of the imagination. It's a woody floral. Very heavy on the orange blossom and Ambroxan, so if you dislike or struggle with both (or either) of these notes, you should proceed with caution. Calone becomes more prominent in the dry down. It's an easy reach on a hot summer's day. Bright and fresh, but fairly linear. Performance is great as you might expect from Bond. It's a pretty scent that doesn't suit my personality. I prefer a multi-faceted shapeshifter, but that doesn't mean I don't like it. If you love fresh and airy beachy scents you will probably love this. It definitely suits the beach. There's something about this fragrance and salty air that just works so well.

I blind bought this from a discounter several months ago, hoping that I would slowly get used to aquatic/marine fragrances. I'm not quite there yet, but I'm getting there. The calone in this fragrance bothers me the most, but a little birdy (Bond Rep at Saks) told me that when layered with other Bond fragrances, it shines. She told me the following layers: JB - Bleecker, JB - Chez Bond, JB - Eau de NY, and JB - Governors Island. I'm wearing the JB - Bleecker combo, and it blends very well. It's airy with a vanilla/caramel cake scent running throughout. Imagine a fresh hot baked caramel cake scent being softly blown towards you by a fan. It works. I can't wait to try the other recommended layers.

I bought a sample of this perfume in my hunt for my new signature scent. As a Long Islander I was on the fence about getting Jones Beach bc if I did fall in love, would it be corny for this to be my signature scent? I decided to take a chance and it was a really fresh, beachy scent. Definitely reminds you of sunscreen but elevated. It lasted a hours long while and I enjoyed smelling it on myself. It didn’t trigger any headaches which strong, sweet perfumes can do to me. But it also didn’t get any compliments. If it was cheap, I’d buy this but ultimately I don’t think this is an everyday, year round scent for me.

Love the opening but then the dry down reminds me of a note I used to smell in a lot of masculine aquatic fragrances in the early aughts and wasn’t too crazy about . Opens like a clean - almost crisp,aldehydic- white floral with ozonic notes and I love it, but then the dry down smells like that note I’m not too crazy about. If I could find something that smelled only like the opening I would buy it. Also, the price for this is insane! It’s a nice clean scent and nothing groundbreaking. It smells like a really nice men’s department store fragrance for summer.

Slightly salty, musky, sun tan lotion, and light florals. Really does remind me of a hot summer day on the beach. It’s a nice scent, just not for me. It is long lasting and projection is decent.

I like this one for how it commits to the concept of a musky beach-ready scent with a gentle, fresh artificial watermelon at the forefront.

Smells like sunscreen and an inflatable beach ball lol

I write my reviews for my own future reference. Put this on today without knowing what is was till the end of the day so my experience is not blinded by expectations of the brand or notes, etc. Out of the sample bottle it was fresh, breezy and very sweet, but not feminine sweet or cheap sweet. Possibly I'm interpreting strong florals for sweet but that sweetness stays through all day. It did and has lasted quite long, which is great, but the sillage was intimate. Even while smelling other fragrances on cards at Nordstroms and Neiman Marcus, amongst others, saying I'm wearing something blind today nobody could tell, including me. It took bringing my arm to my nose, but it was always there. Looking at the notes now, I don't really get a musky or powdery note, and in reading others comments about some plastic or candy notes, I get those but not in a offensive way. It's quite playful, and fun. Unfortunately, to get the desired sillage I guess you can over spray, but I did the normal amount and that should be enough. Overall I really like the scent, it's maybe not as "mature" as my preferences would be, and it is that but of too much sweetness and not enough sillage that keep me at "bay".

Generic musky fresh orange flower scent there’s a billion of these and this isn’t any different paying more than $100 for this is wild 😂

Opening is bright orange blossom sunscreen, but this stage only lasts five minutes or so on my skin. Almost immediately the violet takes over, turning sunny vibes dank and musty. Like a wet swimsuit that was balled up and forgotten in the back of a closet. I guess it really is evocative of a beach experience in that way, though it’s not an overly pleasant scent. Anyone who smells you will likely think you left your clothes to mildew in the washing machine before drying them.

How strange! Lots of folk can smell so many things in this one, and all I get is an overwhelming scent of old rubber hot water bottle. I don't get it! Normally I can pick out most of the notes in Bond no 9 scents without any difficulty at all, but this... defeats me completely. A confused hard pass!

I agree with the reviewer who was smelling only a rubber hot water bottle. That’s really all I get until the dry down, when a sweet note also emerges. I’m beginning to think that Bond No. 9 fragrances just don’t work with my skin chemistry.

Really confused by this one and rather disappointed. It had been recommended to me for a long time due to my love of summer/beach/tropical scents. Unfortunately I got nothing I'd ever associate with a beach, summer, or tropical scents. On me, this is very sharp and synthetic. My first reaction was that it smells like a clean public bathroom air freshener in a nail or hair salon - very harsh synthetic chemical-like, with some fake floral fruity generic notes. Hairspray. Hair dye. Plastic nails. Musky scalp smell heated up. Shampoo. The nail salon smell is one of the most off-putting scents I have ever encountered, so much so that it ruins the taste of my food if I eat at a restaurant in a storefront next door to a nail salon. Everything ends up smelling and tasting like acetone and acrylic to me. Nothing in Jones Beach is clear or realistic enough note-wise in this scent for me to process what it's supposed to smell like. Almost has a 90s drugstore cologne vibe. I agree with the reviewer below about this smelling sort of like plastic-rubber off-gassing like you get from those cheap foam sandals or "new car smell." Never a smell I enjoyed, actually a smell that always made me nauseous/sick to my stomach and headache-inducing. Turns out, the plastic off-gassing "new car smell" is highly carcinogenic, so after 30 years of being told I'm crazy for not liking the scent of hot plastic, I now understand why it makes me sick and am happy I avoided that scent at all costs. This Jones beach isn't directly making me sick in a carcinogenic off-gassing type way, but it is sending similar nausea-inducing signals to my brain. I agree it does have a damp dirty bathing suit vibe to it as well. I get nothing that smells anything like watermelon or any fruit, more of that generic fruity fake chemical smell. Almost smells like there's lily of the valley in this as well, though I think that's the way the synthetic fragrances in this perfume blend with the orange flowers and violet. I don't ever get sunscreen vibes from these orange flowers. Maybe closer to a neroli shampoo. I'm really surprised by the price point of this fragrance. It does not smell anywhere near as nice or expensive as the price reflects. Honestly, this smells like a drugstore body spray or 90s/y2k vintage perfume, like the under $20 scents at Kmart. Even at that price point I'd never buy or wear this scent. Really not trying to be rude or offend anyone who likes this scent, it just really seems to be the opposite of everything I like in a perfume, and I wanted to leave an honest opinion for those considering spending so much on this fragrance without testing first. Perhaps it works better with other people's chemistry. I'm not a NYC person, I live in southern California, so maybe this smells better in the big city than in the desert.

At the opening, it’s very nice and then turns not so nice. Lasts ridiculously long, if that’s something you like, here it is. Not for me. This is a biting and harsh scrubber after 20 minutes. It was pretty strong on my hand 16 hours later and that’s after lots of hand washing. Four or five sprays?! Yikes. I much prefer Fire Island (Coppertone-like) or Coney Island (Salt Spray) which actually smells like all these beach descriptions. Similarly, the saltier varieties of beach smells like Tokyo Milk’s Sea & Sky. Gigantic thumbs down for Jones Beach.

So this actually smelled better on my boyfriend then it did on me. So I gave it to him. Definitely don’t recommend for a female.

I’m not sure where to start with this one, but Jones Beach smells so strongly like my high school boyfriend that I have a hard time moving past it. Now let me set this straight — I may be from Long Island but my boyfriend at the time was decidedly NOT a beach person. He was a freak. Remember that term? He wore JNCOs with the long chains, oversized green army jackets, band tee, Airwalks. Lol Airwalks. I would be willing to guess the only time he was at Jones Beach in high school was to see KoRn in concert. Anyway, I think lovescully has it right: the notes in this one form perfectly to create the scent of skin; skin that is neither dirty or clean. It’s kind of comforting. I’m not sure if this fragrance is evocative of my then boyfriend’s musty Italian teenage boy skin, his detergent or the combination of his detergent with his musky teenage boy scent. This boyfriend definitely did NOT wear any sort of Axe body spray so the calone note in this one is not from that. A deodorant? Irish spring soap? Maybe. Still, it’s wild to me that this super beachy ozonic fragrance is such a bizarre match for the way this guy smelled. My husband says this smells ‘exactly like honeysuckle’ and while I can certainly get a honeysuckle note, I would agree with lovescully that I get a hint of tuberose despite this not being listed as a note. I wish I could get beyond the personal association with the scent because I do love a good beachy, marine scent. (Bobbi Brown Beach is one of my favorites and this smells nothing like that. For more of a BB Beach vibe, “Fire Island” is more apt to suite Coppertone tastes). I would say it's similar to Maison Martin Margiela Beach Walk, but Beach Walk is more heavy on the coconut at opening but the drydown does have this musk vibe that is similar. I think it's interesting that Bond chose "Jones Beach" as the beach to model this scent after. Growing up on Long Island, Jones was the place to see concerts but not necessarily the beach to go to. Point Lookout, Lido, Gilgo or Long Beach were the places to go. Jones was always too crowded, too many people, and certain fields were just...anyone remember The Dog Brothers on MTV's Sex in the 90s? Jones Beach is very...that. TL;DR: The hairy and not so hairy chests of Field 4.

I purchased a 20ml decant for my wife to try. The opening spray really reminds me of Eau De NY, but with a sort of "watery" feel. In fact, I feel like Bond could have done the whole flanker thing with this and called it "Eau de NY Acqua". It's a very beachy fragrance, but more the scent of shade and sunblock and not sunshine and suntan oil. This is a strong yet decently forgiving fragrance; my wife puts on 4 or 5 sprays and it's a bit much when we first get in the car, but by the time we get where we're going, it settles nicely. This is the absolute scent of Summer, and could also pull off early Fall, smelling like you just refuse to let Summer go. I tried wearing this myself, but I find it leans too feminine, moreso than Eau De NY which I do personally enjoy wearing. This is still very nice and extremely enjoyable. I give this a 7 out of 10 but this is easily one of my wife's Summer favorites right now.

4/11/2020 - When I spray this, Crosby, Stills, and Nash’s “Southern Cross” automatically starts playing in my head, and Jimmy Buffett’s “Margaritaville” follows. This is definitely a “yacht rock” type of experience - you’re on a sailboat, the sea spray and wind combine with sand and fresh flowers. It’s my favorite of the dozen+ Bond No. 9 scents I have tried. The only one I committed to a 3+ oz bottle of. It uplifts me all day at work. It actually makes me smile and calms me. I love frags that keep things simple and relaxing. Longevity is excellent - I can still smell it on me 9+ hours after the initial application. Amazing in the hair - it has that “I can smell the sun” scent - ozone? At any rate... LOVE ❤️

I adore this fragrance but this is going to sound weird. You know the store Old Navy? You know how they always have those foam flip flops hanging on the wall in the summer time and the smell of the store overwhelms you when you walk through the door? That is exactly what this fragrance smells like. It smells like Old Navy in the summertime. I sprayed this and it took me straight back to my childhood memories of my mom dragging me to Old Navy at the outdoor mall near our house and I love it! It's sweet and summery and bright and airy. This was a blind buy for me and now I wear it almost every day. Very feminine in my opinion.

I just sprayed this on this morning, and it just hit me. This is a refined Bulgari Aqua Pour Homme without the seaweed opening. IMO, the ultimate beach scent, even better than Millisime Imperial, and takes away the harshness I've associated with Bulgari Aqua Pour Homme. This isn't a fresh scent at all, just a beach scent. My favorite Bond #9. Update: I did a collab with A Gentleman's Journey, and although he said it's too feminine for him, I don't agree. Best beach scent of all time IMO. Great longevity, and the orange blossom stays for the duration of the fragrance. Mr. Miami Cuddles on Youtube.

@bourcet, you're so spot on!!! Thank god I wasn't the only one! I purchased Jones Beach for a good price off of Ebay back in June. I was immediately turned off by that weird sweaty skin note. I figured that I had bought dupe until I received an actual sample from my Bond rep at SFA. It definitely has the smell of person that been sweating at the beach, but hasn't put on suntan lotion or have gone into the water. Basically that friend that stops and says hello while still wearing jeans and sneakers. They chill for a little while, take off their shirt, and hangout for a bit.

I met Jeremy Fragrance, and sort of trolled him. He asked me which fragrance was I wearing, and I told him I wasn't wearing anything. He said you are wearing something, and it smells really good. That interaction is sort of a meme in the youtube fragrance community. Jones Beach was my SOTE. I can sort of understand the low scores, as Jones Beach isn't really an intoxicating or deep fragrance, and the opening is overwhelming. Jones Beach is a spot on replica of walking on a sandy beach. Better overall performance than what the scores show.

By far, my favorite Bond #9 fragrance. The Bond store does give free samples, although are usually out of this one. Personally, I'm a fan of Scent of Peace and the yellow one with the bar code on it. For me, Jones Beach surpasses those two, but I could never find a bottle for under 300. There is a sweet spot between lowered prices and reformulation. Now is the time. How does it smell? It smells like Jones Beach, NY. Jones Beach is strong on calone, which reminds many of a sea breeze. I call this one Easy Breezy.

I get zero citrus in this which is fine, it's very one note 'beach' , similar to Bobby Brown's Beach....there's no other layers to it of sea or sand or driftwood, I really dont get calone or ozonic notes.. It's pleasant, good staying power, probably not going to get compliments as it's smells like you're just clean or it's your laundry detergent which I'm definitely up for but so not worth the price really, I'm sure there's cheaper alternatives.. It's just pleasant.

It opens up almost sweet and with a slightly muted floral note. There's also some type of soft leather or suede note that's making this more of a muted fragrance instead of a bright and airy one. I see other people calling it rubber or a blown up beach ball and I totally get that. This is not a bad fragrance per se- but it's not a love either. It leans more feminine ultimately, but close to unisex.

This is probably my favorite Bond scent that I have tried so far. It reminds me of Beach Walk (BW) by Maison Martin Margiela (MMM) but with that unmistakable plastic doll smell that seems to be synonymous in the Bond No. 9 fragrances. It's an easy daytime summer reach. IMO, this smells a little prettier & less salty than BW.

Smells exactly like calone and orange blossom. The notes listed are exactly what you get. Unfortunately this made me realize I cannot stand calone or orange blossom. Very fresh and oceanic though if you’re into these notes. Lasts quite a long time.

Reminds me of two other fragrances- Tom Ford Mandarino di Amalfi Acqua, and James Heeley Note de Yuzu. Almost a combination of those two.
