Oud Loukoum

I love this, but I don't know If for the right reasons. I'm a big lover of spices and that's what this is to me. Peru balsam, that from what I read and from other perfumes I have that contain it, smells of cinnamon and vanilla bean. And this is exactly what I get all day, a cloud of yummy spiciness and sweetness, the most powerfull and lasting I've ever smelled. If I put my nose into it, I get a little barnyardy/ sharp inky oud, but that's not the main character of the perfume, it only sustains other notes. I really love the general feeling of the perfume, but can I justify the price based alone on the Peru balsam? I bought some Peru balsam and waiting for it to have a comparison.

This one surprised me. I was expecting something challenging in the opening based on what some people say—but on my skin, it’s smooth as silk from the start. No sharp edges. No struggle to get through the first few minutes. What you get instead is a walk through a fragrant market: Soft Turkish delight sweetness, floral notes drifting through the air, a touch of tobacco adding depth, and a warm resinous backbone from Peru balsam holding it all together. The oud is there—but it’s not the star. It’s blended in, adding texture rather than taking over. Sweet. Floral. Slightly fruity. Balanced. Effortless to wear—and honestly, just a pleasure all the way through.

This is a beautiful scent after the first 15-20 minutes, which was very cow pasture/fecal smelling. I tried this last in my morning reviews so I could wear it all day. It’s woody and sweet due to Ylang Ylang and fruit notes, I don’t pick up the tobacco. Classy stuff. It’s obvious that this Oud is not made in the lab, though I am not an expert on Oud. I’m just happy that it is a wearable one because I often have trouble with both the real stuff and the synthetic version. For that reason reason Oud Loukoum is a love though my budget won’t allow me to purchase it.

Exotic fleurs & indolic floral... I get a tropical fleurs of jasmines, ylang, frangipani, and fresh cut tuberose. I can't detect any Loukoum (Turkish delight! or gourmand), dried fruits, or anything sweet! it is quite a fresh cut of tropical fleurs! reminds me so much of my beloved "Indolis" by Areej Le Dore. This blend by far is an exotic sensual floral bouquet of oriental fleurs. Beautiful.

Oud Loukoum by @bortnikoffparfum from Thailand. It smells beautifully unique. The first notes are strong #scents of tobacco mixed with dry fruits. After it dries, soft notes of Ylang-Ylang come to life making this one of the most calming #perfumes I’ve experienced. It’s warm, cozy and sweet. #luckyscent compares it to a Turkish Delight dessert.

This is an absolute masterpiece. The harmony of all the notes is insanely perfect. Do not buy this so that there is enough stock for me.

This one has been a journey for me. When I first wore this I thought it was very medicinal and that the oud was a little funky. As my nose developed over time smelling more higher end compositions I circled back to this and like Oud Infini (which has nothing to do with this fragrance in similarity ) as my nose developed further with high end florals the fragrance changed for me. Where as Oud Infini went from just pure barnyard I now get amazing orange blossom's and rose, for Oud Loukoum I get a very wet tobacco, indian oud, ylang-ylang opening drying down into a clean floral balsamic oud. Now that I can discern the notes they stand on there own and make a gorgeous smell that I no longer associate to medicinal. It's kind of wild how time and experience can change a fragrance that's why I never try to right off something till I've had time to wear.

How is this rated so poorly? It's really good! This is a really well balanced fragrance and a pleasure to wear.

I get a borderline fecal oud in the intro (which only lasts a few minutes) with tobacco and some sweetness from the Peru Balsam and Ylang Ylang. The dry down is endless sweet, powdery woods, tobacco, sticky oud with the florals lasting pretty much forever. I do get some of the bubble gum vibe that a few are getting with some Bortnikoffs. Mysterious, and original. Not a crowd pleaser by any means, but something keeps me coming back for another sniff. Edit: I've re-evaluated this one, and my honest opinion is that it is one of the weakest Bortnikoffs in the bunch (and I'm a huge Bortnikoff fan, btw.) Not in scent strength, but in composition. It's kind of a mess. The notes just don't jive in a pleasant way. It reminds me of dirty dishwater - bits of random savory food with the scent of dish soap sweetness. I find myself wanting it to pick a direction - sweet, gourmand, woody, floral? As it is it's going all over the place and the overall impression is muddled and unfocused to me. Probably my least favorite Bortnikoff.

A pleasant powdery Floriental. The perfume has a brief opening of tobacco and dried fruits moving to a brief ylang ylang heart before it settles into a deep base of cedar, guaiac, peru balsam and oud. A unisex scent with moderate sillage and good longevity. Nothing exceptional and not really Loukoum but pleasant and happy scent. Enjoy!

Cedar and oud, quite masculine and harsh in the beginning. Turns powdery in a matter of minutes.

I very nearly scrubbed off Oud Loukoum because of the horrid opening. Strong licorice accord, plasticky and medicinal to the max. I ran over to my husband (also a licorice-hater) to share the misery and he said it smells like "a hospital in the worst way." I was going to scrub it or at least layer it with my favorite Good Girl - she's great for sweetening and smoothing any sample I didn't like - but I thought I should write something while the experience is fresh. Five minutes later it softened into something I could tolerate, maybe even appreciate if I sniff part the licorice, which really prevented me from enjoying it. I ended up wearing it for the rest of the day, sniffing occasionally to revisit the rich interplay of ylang-ylang, dried fruit, tobacco, and oud. I don't think I need a second dose of this medicine though. It goes in the Never Again pile.

If you've ever had to cook/bake with gluten free flours, you most likely will understand my analogy below. Part of the frustration of cooking with gluten free flours is that one way or another, you're attempting to mimic the properties of wheat flour -- either the taste, the elasticity, or it's relationship with levening agents. Rice flour comes close, as does maize. There are others that come close, but one of the closest I've found is a mix of lentil flours used in South Asian cooking -- urad dhal and toor dhal. You get the doughy aspect as well as the wheaty 'rise' properties, but, unfortunately, you get the lentil flavour. There are ways around this, but effectively, as I said, you're robbing it of some quality to remove the earthy-nutty flavour. And you need to do this if you're trying to made a sweet or dessert with it... This is what I'm getting with Oud Loukoum -- the white floral elements have sufficiently blunted the coarse, unsavoury and unpalatable elements of the oud here, I'm getting the oud bombast without the faecal elements. That said, it is WAAAY too floral for my liking. Just too much blooming booming sweetness for me. Later on in the piece, the balsams and woods come to the fore, but for me, it's just not complex enough. Still beautiful, but just not what I'm looking for...

The perfume reveals itself to be slightly tabbaque and fruity; it moves into the soul of this fragrance dominated by the fermented fruity sweetness of a powerful ylang flower, dueling with the potent Thai fruity balsamic oud and the smoky Indian animalic oud distilled by Dmitry Bortnikov himself, creating a perfect and mystical link; All this surrounded all the time by a balsamic amber resinous cloud and smoked woods. Delicious Perfume! A semi gourmand based on an eccentric floriental chord: 'oud, ylang ylang and balsam. Excellent and delicious fragrance with exceptional quality and very high definition. centered on the unusual duet 'Oud & Ylang-Ylang; Creating a beautiful contrast between yellow amber sweetness and dark woody smoke. It's 'Oud Amber Woody Floral Unisex perfume. For me one of the best bortnikoff!

opens with a strong petrol-licorice blast that softens quickly. this is not a medicinal Thai oud (i happen to know it well), its super heavy on spices with a petrol/wet wood kinda accord. Fragrantica lists Indian oud, which I have yet to smell, but most likely that's it. there are some florals in the background, and i am a big fan of dimitriy's way of handling flowers, but here they are completely muted and can only be noticed from up close. falls quickly into the base notes becoming a mono-scent, sits VERY close to skin, no projection upd: one hour in becomes very smokey

This is good if you are a fan of the "Cambodi"/Thai style of oud oils that are rich with notes of tobacco, dried fruit and spices. At first I pick up the sweet and fruity top notes of the oud and notes of wisps of high quality oud chips on a mabkhara. The oud is really high quality with no off-putting or barnyard notes. The tobacco and dried fruits are perceptible. I applied two sprays of the sample and it sits close to the skin, which I guess is expected with a high proportion of naturals.

This is some dense, chalky oud right here -- MAN it's chalky. It's muted by some sweet florals, woods and balsams, but the oud shines through. The Bort DNA is loud and clear on this one, no doubt, but for me it's too oudey, it's just too much for me to bear. At stages, it gets a little bit bitter -- a slight metallic screech enters the scent and it's quite prevalent, but the damage has already been done, I feel, with the strength of the oud. Not a fan.

Honestly overall happy with this. My second bortnikoff, starts off very sweet then delves into a balanced floral and oud scent, i think its worth it considering the insane box and bottle presentation

Bortnikoff at his best. This is unapologetic, heavy, dank, bliss! I think the new bottles are slightly different, more fresh, cleaner ylang, still good.

Lots of ylang-ylang. Smells fruity, clean/fresh drying to a light oud (Thai/Laotian oud perhaps?).
