Epoque

I couldn’t feel the notes still, only recognizing the aroma. It was green and warm for me, but differently opens up on my skin. Truly glory. Individual and luxury.

Époque bears a strong resemblance to Cacharel Eden - both are intoxicating peach-tuberose scents with a camphorous green undertone. The heady sweetness of such scents makes them divisive, and while I appreciate Eden (and Époque), I wouldn't wear either. Époque is perhaps a more refined, nuanced scent than Eden, but it is almost redundant, given their similarity. Époque is supposedly inspired by Perpignan in the south of France, but feels evocative of a tropical jungle instead. Époque is peachy from initial spray, sweet, strong and dry. The camphorous accord is present from the opening, infusing this scent with jungle-like, green heat. Heady and intense, the tropical theme is amped up by the tuberose that forms the heart of this scent. The tuberose is heady and sweet, made tropical by the fruity, camphorous opening. Neroli adds some orange sweetness, a seamless inclusion to the lush, tropical opening. As it develops, it mellows somewhat, allowing the muguet note to come to the fore. A green-tinged, clean white floral, it complements the tuberose nicely. Some fleshy fig is an inspired addition here, its smooth jammy sweetness a nice progression from the peachy opening. It (uncharacteristically) remains in the background, and I really enjoy its presence here. Vanilla keeps things sweet in the base as it fades to a musky, slightly powdery skin scent - a seamless development from the bold tropical sweetness. Sillage and longevity are moderate - the initial intensity fades nicely. It is a feminine-leaning spring/summer scent. I find Eden synthetic and reminiscent of cleaning products, despite being a creative feat that was groundbreaking at its time of release. Époque is perhaps more wearable, but is ultimately pointless. 3/5.

This is beautiful, immediately takes me back to summertime at my Grandmother’s place. I would classify it as a floral freshie. Starts off with a refreshing blast of citrus from the neroli and orange. I’m surprised bergamot isn’t listed in the notes. Then as it dries down the tuberose, and lily of the valley begin to shine. They are a little bit heady, and musky combined with the iris and benzoin. The florals are very well blended and once this dries down it’s hard to distinguish one from the other. I don’t get any peach or vanilla. Overall I find this scent more fresh than floral with the slightest hint of fruit. Can’t wait to give it another try during the summer. It has no resemblance to Memo Marfa whatsoever.

With Epoque we have another tuberose, this time appears fresh, fruity and cheerful. The opening is juicy, very pleasant, very balanced, to then open up this wonderful flower surrounded by lily of the valley and a very delicate fig and bringing the mind back to a memory, that of being in a field covered with flowers, carefree enjoying the spring. Really beautiful and, above all, joyful.
