Matin a Mogador

I had a hard time finding a good description of this fragrance, and after purchasing it, I understand why. Truly a "whole is greater than the sum of its parts" fragrance, the individual notes, while all present, don't describe the experience of smelling Matin a Mogador. The opening reminds me of an orchestra warming up. The random bursts of sound are a little discordant, but I've always found it pleasing, albeit uncomposed. In Matin a Mogador, every note you see in the pyramid above is present in the beginning, firing off randomly. It's hard to focus on one note specifically, and it doesn't immediately coalesce into something you can focus on until about 5 minutes in. The main portion of this fragrance is the exact opposite of the beginning. It comes across as a singular, layered scent with every note in the pyramid above still present, but now humming at set levels in perfect harmony. Violet and Iris are the stars, like a dewy purple flower dusted with powder. Animalic leather provides a warm backbone, and the both the cumin and nutmeg (two notes that always make me wary) are perfectly nestled in the background, making the composition interesting without getting too "spice cabinet". The patchouli gives an earthy chocolate note that melds with the germanium and rose to create a secondary sweet floral layer stacked just below the violet/iris. The verbena/bergamot and civet/vanilla sandwich everything else, the former giving just a hint of vibrancy to balance the depth of the latter. Late dry-down is more vanilla-y. I am truly smitten with this fragrance. It's unique, beautiful, haunting, playful and primal. Performance is hilariously good, with a strong sillage for at least 2 hours, a decent scent bubble for 4+ an intimate one for 8-10. Can be worn in a variety of settings (maybe not the best for a more conservative office or anything super athletic) but really shines at night (disregard the name) and in weather below 80 degrees.

Quick first impression - the opening on paper is nearly identical to Iceberg Man, which also gets comparisons to Tom Ford's Noir. However, that one has this pressing synthetic sweet amber that imposes itself within the first 10 minutes giving it a significant nudge toward the Bentley for Men Intense direction. This fragrance has FAR more going on. It's drier like the texture of cardboard, with more spicy sparkle that uniquely balances the powdery aspects without going towards citrus. But it's very clearly a floral patchouli fragrance in the vein of Gillotin's Noir. Verrrry similar. My favourite part - the light-handed sweet nutmeg in the base. Nothing overdone. Not exactly a perfectly smooth fragrance as others have mentioned below, but that space between the notes makes me enjoy it even more. In fact, I prefer this one over both Noir and Iceberg Man. It's basically the "niche" version of both, if I may be so bold. If you love Habit Rouge edt (like me), you might just find this a very suitable evening counterpart. But if you dislike all of the perfumes already mentioned because they give you old-lady vibes with a side of unpleasant breath (ps that was me when I started out), you'll definitely hate this one. Just a tip. Give yourself time. Otherwise, it's the best value version of this style of scent I've smelled to date. And the presentation is AWESOME. Well done indeed.

i love wearing this, i love smelling like flowers and spices, light colors, light clothes, this together acts just like a mood enhancer, such a gorgeous multidimensional scent! it doesn't start off too catchy, just a flowery semi sweet herbal composition, but the more it dries down, the sweeter it turns. flowers become more vivid, nutmeg adds a slight spicy hint... im not good at deciphering flowers, the flowery aroma just smells like vanilla and some magnificent summer garden to me. as the scent dries down even more, the vanilla and amber become much more pronounced, amber there creates such a warm waxy feeling, i just can't stop smelling this. easily one of the best scents ive acquired from my very recent perfume "hobby". i would say this smells very feminine, but the scent is so nuanced and inoffensive that this easily fits a male, especially considering the soft, round, warm base of this perfume. in my opinion, this first everybody that has the right mood, style, or just a place in their heart to smell like flowers

This brand is the evidence that quality is not defined by the price. It's amazing how the (relatively) affordable fragrance can achieve this quality. The scent is beautiful. It's soft spicy, aromatic and floral. Opened with a good combination of bergamot and verbena, subtle leather, and spice. The middle phase is beautiful iris-rose forward with aromatics nuance. The presentation is beyond their price range. Good bottle with simple elegant design, wooden cap, charming labels, and classic lavish packaging box. The performance is above moderate with pretty good longevity and nice sillage. It's unisex and proper to wear all year round.

This is a potpourri of so many beautiful notes. Hard to describe but I'll do my best. Smells earthy and slightly citrusy when first sprayed. Smells a little dirty too (definitely coming from the patchouli), but in a good way. Some sweetness kicks in shortly after, and then the creaminess from the vanilla sets it. This isn't a warm fragrances by any means, neither is it sweet. It's just everything mashed together n a beautiful way. Longevity is good....and as with all Botanicae fragrances encountered to date, sillage is average. Good one from this brand, and the most unique out of their offerings in my opinion.

Great perfume without hesitation. Since opening, which is nice combination of violets and spice (amazing hint of cumin!) to iris heart and warm, vetiver base. There is a complexity of all notes. First hints of verbena continues in herbal accord with clary sage. Cozy, sweet and warm notes of vanilla and benzoin are defined by nutmeg. Rose and geranium creates feminine, elegant veil. I love civetone odor in the composition. It adds depth and turns the scent into darker mood. This perfume is masterly crafted. Stays almost all day and in every minute is graceful and charming.

Great detailed description of Iris below. My first impression was "Wow!" when I first smelled this fragrance. I recognised the typical smell of civet/vanillle from Shalimar, but the overall feeling is fresh and indeed gives an outdoor feeling I guess because of the greens. I tend to agree with SachinSinghFrag calling this a masterpiece.

Great perfume. Good strength and durability. I can't describe the individual notes, but it smells luxurious. Excellent price for the quality it provides. It can be considered unisex, but it is not a problem to be worn by a man. Overall rating 8.5/10

Morning in Mogador (modern Essaouria in Morocco), evokes feelings of a carefree hedonist exploring all the magnificent scents and flavours life has to offer. A very special fragrance in my collection.

found similarity with Yohji yamamoto AVANT-GARDE ... transparent and quiet compared to yamamoto ... and a little🤏 more spicy.. BEAUTIFUL WATERCOLOR on YAMAMOTO AVANT-GARDE

It took me a few wearings to be able to describe this, it’s definitely complex and unusual. It starts off as an aromatic, mildly spicy scent - opens a little green, citrusy, a little leathery and earthy. With a hint of violet. Definitely a more masculine opening, that women can find challenging to pull off. However, within 45 mins - an hour, floral aspects slowly start to dominate the scene - especially the violet. A nice, slightly candied violet, that never gets too sweet, as the aromatic notes continue to linger in the background. In a few hours you’re left with a powdery violet scent, not boring at all, and very wearable for both sexes, as far as I am concerned. I do feel a hint of Shalimaresque vanilla too, but the two fragrances do not have much else in common, aside from the powdery-vanillic drydown. /NB: You won’t necessarily like this if you’re a Shalimar fan./ As far as comparisons to other fragrances are concerned, I can’t speak of TF Noir, as I am not familiar with it, but I do own Dior Homme Intense and I wouldn’t say they have much in common either. For now I’d say that it lasts and projects well, for a decent 6 hours, but it will probably get even better with time. The scent has definitely a niche feel, but it is not a particularly safe blind buy for a woman, unless you’re used to unisex, slightly masculine-leaning fragrances (mainly because of the opening). Excellent quality-price ratio in any case.

One of the best designer flowers scent. Great box, bottle, longevity and projection. Hardcore ozonic flowery scent with benzoin and a lot of geranium & violet. For me it's pretty similar to Fahrenheit og. I love this scent. Smells powerful and rich. I’m enjoying this scent, and I mean this in the nicest way possible, but it smells to me like the happy accident of an untrained perfumer. It’s full of elements that shouldn’t work together but they kinda do, with the rough edges still showing. A slightly medicinal leather jutting out of a Habit Rouge-like rose/vanilla, some shards of powdery/soapy florals, a smear of amber ... the opening is just chaotic, and it settles to an uneasy alliance that’s rather fascinating to just keep sniffing and exploring. I don’t know anything about the actual perfumer, and some outsider art looks like Picasso while some Picassos look like outsider art, so who knows where this mad canvas-splatter really came from, but it’s fantastically under-priced, beautifully-packaged and fun to wear. A bit of a drive-in classic of perfumery. As Joe Bob Briggs would say, “check it out”.

It's not really unisex although women can pull it off. Feels very high end but oh so artsy. I get a bunch of spices and leather and iris, which make for the love child of any old fashioned Chanel with Prada Infusion d'Iris. After a way too strong opening it softens into a dry leather-iris scent and as such lasts on my skin forever. I don't know how this brand is usually priced but I got it for a fraction of what I'd pay for Infusion, so I feel very lucky. However, this cannot be an everyday wear for me. It IS a challenging, dominant, quite aggressive scent and migraine inducing.

Beautiful rendition of Prada Amber PHI. Spring version? Sexually liberated flamboyant edition? Waxy feeling on the nose. The violet, rose and geranium really give it another dimension of complexity compared to the prada which may be better suited to more somber days with its darker scent profile.

Testing blind, I get an initial blast of orange or citrus, quickly followed by an emerging earthiness and musky animalistic tone. Elements of liquor, licorice, or anise swirl with a kind soft herbiness. It's all kinda of a mix of animalistic-herby-iris. Looking at the mass of notes now, most I can find in there but the animalistic sticks out the most. Not getting any geranium or benzoin. For me it seems to reduce more towards an intimate projection. I don't get any real scent after an hour without having to get my nose in there, but the skin scent last long. Overall, I like it's animalistic dry herby iris feel but find it too quiet and intimate.

From the notes I should've like this blind buy but I was dissapointed. Opens up heavy resinous, vanillic/tonka bean heavy ( Like Guerlain Shalimar - really old school feminine scent) , dries down to a leathery, resinous, rose scent - I absolutely don't like it. I got no iris whatsoever unfortunately.

To me this smells like pure styrax...not a fan

I've owned *Matin a Mogador* over a year....maybe two. I bought a BOTANICAE Discovery Set and *MaM* was/is my favorite. I've* worn it...(I'm thinking)....six times...maybe seven...at most,. For no other reason than I keep buying new stuff. Today...I almost ordered two new perfumes. I STOPPED (!) myself and said (to myself) "You have so much stuff (!)....go look at what you haven't worn in a while....damnit!" Sometimes I need to get tough....with myself. After I showered....I sprayed (oversprayed) myself and my t-shirt....and my flannel over shirt....(it's chilly here in New York) then I sprayed all of me...all over before I left the house. I liked the way I smelled in the car. (Side Note: I layer everything...almost everything. I left Mr Mogador alone.....it's perfect just the way it is.) I stopped at a Farmers Market and walked around.....booth-stand browsing. I bought a few bread things and a few beautiful vegetables. While standing at the Vegan Cookies booth....a woman (quite a bit younger than I am) said....and I quote "You smell very handsome." (that's an interesting comment) I said... "Wow....thanks so much. I haven't worn this in a while and decided to take it off the shelf and wear it today. I'm happy you like it." She said...."It's very nice....very....like I said....handsome. Do you know the actor Jon Hamm?" I said..."Yes...I definitely know who Jon Hamm is." She said...."That's the kind of perfume Jon Hamm would wear." She asked me to type the name of the perfume in her phone. She said...."Thank you....it was nice talking to you." I said.... "Same here....thanks so much for the compliment." When I was paying for my two *Oatmeal Raisin* cookies ($7 ea,...2 for $14) the booth girl/person said...."You should have asked for her number." I responded..."She was wearing a wedding band." **Matin a Mogador** Rating: 10/10
