Tubéreuse De Madras

TROPICAL TUBEROSE with Cool Whip. Opens with a burst of creamy & tropical orange-blossom, passionfruit & ozonic elements from violet leaf, that all deepens into the velvet-y tuberose heart elaborated by milky tropical frangipani and succulent ylang, all resting on a creamy sandalwood & vanilla base. Overall I get a fluffy, whipped-cream tropical tuberose scent that's fairly realistic at the same time, with the other notes serving to enhance different facets of tuberose. This doesn't have the vintage vibe that many tuberose dominant scents have, and comes across as more natural without exaggerating any particular facet of tuberose. Excellent performance, and an easy to wear year round tuberose for those just beginning to appreciate tuberose (like me). It's a love for me. Enjoy! Contrast to White Diamonds Elizabeth Taylor: These are different, but there are similarities to the middle and drydown of White Diamonds, but Tubereuse de Madras doesn't have the intense powdery, aldehydic opening that is in White Diamonds. Contrast to Tubereuse Vertigineuse Molinard: These are different, but there are similarities with creamy tuberose. Tubereuse Vertigineuse has a more forward fizzy "clean" facet, and some strong tuberose absolute (which burns the nose with a direct sniff) amongst other things. Both have excellent performance, but Tuberesue Vertigineuse is beast mode imho. Contrast to Fracas Robert Piguet: These are different, but there are similarities again with the creamy tuberose. Fracas has a much more pronounced vintage vibe and is a lot more powdery to my nose. Both have excellent performance, but Fracas has the tuberose absolute as with Tubereuse Vertigineuse. Contrast to Giorgio Giorgio Beverley Hills: These are different, but once again have a similar creamy tuberose. Giorgio has a vintage vibe and a more forward peachy quality amongst other things. Both have excellent performance. Update 03/11/24: This just keeps getting better! Very tropical tuberose as before, but the orange-blossom, passionfruit & vanilla are showing up more. I also think I'm catching something near a green accord, which might be the cucumber tones of the violet leaf. Love, love, love! 10/10. Update 02/25/25: I love this one a lot. Some reviewers have called it "thin", but I don't find it that way. It's not as loud as some tuberose scents, and doesn't burn the nose up close like some, but for me this is a plus. Creamy, milky, soft, but not aggressive - more cool whip than bubble-gum, so if that's "thin" I'm here for it. Love it.

Tuberose and I are frenemies at best so I had big reservations about picking up a bottle of this offering from Boucheron's exclusive line. But, this line has yet to let me down and I am happy to report that Tubereuse de Madras is a tuberose I can befriend.. easily! To me this has a tropical floral vibe - I get fruity sweetness from the passionfruit, ylang ylang where I can clearly smell the banana like nuances, a lemony frangipani that helps cut through all the fruity sweetness, creamy sandalwood and a dusting of vanilla. Where, do you ask, is the tuberose? In the back ground, supporting all the other notes, at least for me. This is not a note I have trouble identifying however the blend of these notes is so fabulous that I can sense it's presence but it doesn't overwhelm me as it sometimes can. Tuberose can go very wrong for me when it is the prominent note in a fragrance but in combination with other notes I really like, it is a note I enjoy and that's how Tubereuse de Madras reeled me in. The name, which some might say is misleading if they have the same experience as me, is perfect to me because tuberose is the back bone of this fragrance and carries this blend. Definitely one I would recommend you get your noses on.

I was surprised with this one and I got the interesting milky/soy milk/playdoh vibe. Which was interesting and I’ve had in a few amber frags I’ve worn. I don’t generate any fruity notes with this one. No passionfruit. Lots of creamy yellow blossoms alongside the well rounded tuberose (no soap or screechy notes). I feel the ylang stays the longest into the dry down along with the sandalwood and vanilla, on my skin. A light natural sweetness in the mix. Very much enjoying this. Cozy, clean and gentle but very very soft even though I keep getting little wafts of it. It comes up unisex on me. Not too sweet or flowery. I look forward to colder temps and seeing how things smell then. Edit: this is wonderful year round. In winter the ambery aspects are magnified and the creamy tuberose is dense and clean. Still very rich, no soap, no skank very unisex and a rare scent that lasts over 12 hours without over spraying. Love love this one.

This is a beautiful and classy tuberose fragrance, of the green/leafy variety, which I seem to prefer over the too-sweet/bubblegummy interpretations of this flower. The tropical component of tuberose is also emphasised, thanks to the addition of ylang-ylang, frangipani and passion fruit in modest doses, which I like - I mean, tuberose has such a distinct smell that it doesn’t need too many distractions. Fortunately I don’t have any soap/detergent associations with Tubereuse de Madras. As the scent develops, it becomes progressively sweeter, with vanilla gradually overpowering other supporting notes, but never steering this into the bubblegummy territory. All in all, I’d say that this is a fairly safe tuberose; not too strong, not too dense, office-friendly and a safe blind buy. The only downside is that it’s a bit too unoriginal to justify its price.

Revisiting this beauty. I’ve not worn her for a while. She’s airy and creamy and a “perfumey” tuberose. Not a fruity or fleshy sweet tuberose. Instead she’s gauzy and understated. This is grown up tuberose. Ideal for quieter moments, job interviews and moments of comfort. If you’re after a loud gourmand this isn’t your girl - but she’s classic and very feminine. Along with Rose d’Isparta, are my picks from this line. Long lasting. Beautiful sillage and timeless.
