Kus Kus

I blind bought Kus Kus and just received it today. I have been on a powdery scent kick for a while now just craving powder, powder and musk. Anyway, I am really glad I bought this. Kus Kus smells like a more wearable version of L'Heure Bleu by Guerlain. I smell heliotrope, violet mingling w/ star anise, and cloves. I'm getting a lot of carnation and ylang as well. Hints of vanilla, rose as well. Very pretty, delicate powder and light spice fragrance that can be worn year-round. This is the kind of dry powder fragrance that keeps you feeling cool in high heat but still works in the dead cold of winter. Kus Kus leans feminine, but I think a man can pull this off. I like powdery fragrances on men if they have spices. If you found L'Heure Bleu much too much like I did but want something along the same lines give Kus Kus a try. I think it hits the right sweet spot of being nostalgically old fashioned while remaining very wearable for today. Edit: Wearing this again and I forgot to mention this has a lot of mimosa as well. Kus Kus is very powdery, but it is a warm powder, soft spicy vanillic floral powder. Not a cold powder like Teint de Neige or White Diamonds. Those are cold, winter snow powders. Kus Kus is warmer than Guerlain LB and happier. LB while a brilliant perfume is too much for me, there is something about it that makes me very sad. Teint de Neige and WD make me feel dynamic like an Ice Queen. Kus Kus is more of a comfort type of powder along the same type of vibe as Violet Ida by Miller Harris (not a dupe I'm describing a vibe) There is almost a gourmand aspect to Kus Kus, like bananas foster turned to perfume. I just love this. It is comfort food for the nose!

I’m in the beginning stages of exploring French Bourbon scents. Kus Kus and Cameo Noir (the word “noir” is a magnet for me) are my first purchases (travel size rollerball). Kus Kus is very unusual. I get the passing resemblance to L’Heure Bleue, but it is thin. Still, that’s not a fault in Kus Kus, which is different and very nice in itself. VERY sweet, very powdery, both of which I love. 5-6 hours and it’s completely gone, but truthfully I don’t know if I would want it to be around much longer than that. There’s an underlying banana pudding note - weird, I know - that is creamy and overripe and stays to the end. I think this would be a good layering scent, but it really is very nice on its own. Better than I’m making it sound - I kept enjoying it on my wrist throughout. I am experimenting with heavier application and will update if anything significant comes of it. For the price, the exceptional service and lightning speed delivery, you can’t lose if you like this type of scent. Update: I put this away and let it sit in my closet a few months. Came back to it and I am really enjoying it now. It’s beautiful and different. I love that the drydown is not vanilla - the spice blend carries through to the end - and it’s sweet in such a good way! The longevity is amazing - applied it last night for bed, it lasted all day today, and when I showered tonight, steamy clouds of it filled the air. Most impressive - a new love.

I got a small rollerball of this scent from a fellow fragrantian, and I have to admit - I love it. It's got animalic notes that sing on my skin. And, while it is a powdery scent, the subtle spice takes this from a simple, sweet powder that reads as innocent to a much more complex, lascivious wink of a scent that is present but more of an enigma. It does make one think of sexy underthings and satiny boudoirs - it's coquettish and flirtatious.

I really loved Kus Kus when I lived in California. It was one of my favorite scents. However I found it stuffy and kind of sweet and sickening during the cold weather here in New England. It was late spring last year when I re-purchased both the eau de toilette and perfume, and I enjoyed it then. I really hope that I will love it again as we are moving into warmer weather this summer. Definitely a learning experience for me.

Powder bomb without being flat or suffocating! I get a kaleidoscope of powdery florals here — iris, violet, ylang ylang (in full “banana custard” drag, as other reviewers have noted) and even a slightly fruity jasmine. The florals sit like jewels on a velvet pillow of musk and spices. Just lovely! Classically feminine but could certainly be pulled off by men. Perfect for bedtime.

This is one beautiful perfume! I can definitely understand why they have been making this for so many years. It is a sweet powdery delight for the senses. Complex layers of notes. It starts out sweet and powdery then the spices start warming things up. Gradually deep resinous notes appear. Very romantic, like a vintage boudoir with lacy "underthings". In a word: Gorgeous

I have a purse-size roll-on of this scent. I use it after walking in the park to freshen up in the car before going to the coffee shop or the grocery store. In the 100F+ heat of my car, I find it intensely refreshing, even though it's a warm, spicy scent. Perhaps it's appealing in the way that eating spicy food in hot weather is appetizing. Putting it on my cold flesh in the morning for work, Kus Kus smells a little cheap and too old-fashioned. However, when I'm overheated and need a boost of confidence and refinement, it's perfect. Makes sense considering that it was formulated in the sultry weather of New Orleans... and at a time before the invention of A/C.

I bought a set of minis of their classic scents and found them all quite old-fashioned (to my nose anyway) and this is no different. I hated Kus Kus initially but I’ve grown to appreciate it for what it is - a super clean, fresh, powdery musk scent. It’s basically baby powder. It doesn’t smell bad at all it’s just not my jam, however I can see it as a bedtime fragrance or good for when I went to smell straight-out-of-the-shower fresh.

Well, I know it's more than powder and spices, but darned if I know what that more is! Is N'Awlins a note? ;) It's hard to believe this fragrance is a composition from 1843. Not so much because it's "modern", it's not really. Not so much so that it strikes me as having mass appeal in today's fragrance market. That's definitely not it. Some large company will never gobble it up, repackage it and sell it over a huge impersonal shiny department store counter. It's just not what I imagined appealing to 19th century ladies. Silly me. This is my favorite, thus far, of Bourbon French Parfums. I can't wait to smell the parfum. I don't love it, it's not full bottle worthy for me, but I will enjoy the experience of what I have. I'll wear it in the evening at home. I'll wear it if I'm around the house on Saturdays. I'll even wear it curled with a book on Sundays. Mostly because I can't figure out what it is I smell, and thus...what I smell LIKE, at least with not enough certainty go to parading around town :D Here's what I THINK I smell in this, the beautifully blended cologne edition-- vanilla, powder, labdanum, powder, resins, powder, a little spice (cinnamon?). I want to say a sweetish amber as well. It smells a distant, warmer cousin of Citizen Queen. I asked a friend. Her reply, "I smell softness and your skin." That actually might be a far better description of the notes. At least it's one I can identify with certainty! :)

I have been buying this for years, ever since the first time I moved to New Orleans and was living in the French Quarter. There is something so haunting about this fragrance, created by August Doussan in 1843. It is also the first fragrance created by this company and in my opinion, their best. It evokes images of Victorian parlors, velvet settees, candlelit rooms filled with well-dressed visitors, each holding a glass of champagne or absinthe, whispering naughty things to one another behind the draperies, beautifully laid dining tables with the finest fare and all the best people. Oh, how I could go on and on... It takes one back to past lives and loves and always brings fall and winter to mind. I have received more compliments on Kus Kus than on any other fragrance I have ever worn, and there have been many! People will not forget you if you wear this, and you will be transported back to the past, to cobblestone streets, horse and carriage, gas lanterns and fog laden alleyways. It is quite joyful when a fragrance can create such experiences!

Kus Kus is the smell of Johnson’s baby lotion! I am a “new nose” to this house but I am not new to perfume in general. This is the creamy base that is so familiar to me. Truly a serene scent, nothing is out of place. The base of this is very heady, so it does not start off as creamy, but once the alcohol dissipates the perfume is alive with the smell of powder and lotion. Nice serene scent that would blend into your skin and create a lovely vintage powder “aura” around you. **People who have smelled “Sweet Honesty” by Avon will find them to be quite similar! **

As a 504 native, I've been fortunate to own several perfumes from this company. I recently received a bottle of Molinard Habanita, and remarked to my son "this smells like Kus Kus". Lots and lots of powder. Not a whole lot else. Very clean and easy to wear. Especially in New Orleans heat. its worth a try in the summer months, and a small sample bottle is the way to go.

This is lovely, powdery and spicy and has a good dry down that never turns into a chemical soup. It is good for daytime and works well in hot weather.

Just received my bottle yesterday. I loveee powdery perfume. So yes, this is a winner. Powdery with just a touch of spice. Delicate and timeless.

I wanted this so badly based on a review. For me and on me it was a powdery spice bomb that made me sick. Way too much. I won't buy again.

@Eastport No p*ssy here... Kus or Kush generally refers to a pure or hybrid Cannabis indica strain.

If you know any Arabic, you know the word Kus ( كُس ). It's the word for p*ssy. Coincidence?
