Green Vetiver

Ugh. I really wanted to like this brand. But so far, I'm 0 for 2. I think the biggest issue so far is Boyds doesn't do a good job balancing out their scents. Just like the Texas Lavender being one or two dimensional, same with this one. It's just alllll vetiver. If that's your vibe, you'll like it. But I laughed when I saw the notes listed on here. I'm picking up no citrus at all. Very little floral notes. It's all grassy, mossy vetiver with a hint of rosemary. If you like one-dimensional fragrances, you'll love Boyd's of Texas. If you need more character and interesting scents, this probably isn't for you.

I wanted to love this brand ...I like the use of all natural ingredients and the bottle design is very attractive. All the perfumes in this house have very high quality ingredients and do smell nice but become a skin scent very quickly and are very linear with no real scent progression or push off the skin . Disappointing...

Green vetiver is a powerful natural scent. There isn’t much nuance to it. As an atmospheric scent I love it, but I can’t place what type of person could pull this off as a wearable scent. It smacks me in the face with the memory of sitting in the cab of a 1970s diesel tractor during a fall corn harvest.

Hate to dog on a Texas perfumer, but this was just not good to my nose. Real appreciators of earthy, grassy scents might enjoy, but a hard pass for me.

I purchased 3 samples from Boyd's website, Green Vetiver being one of them. I will start by saying these are all natural, and all come across as being high quality scents. A welcome change from many of the synthetic scents that are so prevalent in the fragrance world. This opens with a very sharp "green" that was a bit strong for my taste on my first spray. However, the smell lodged into my olfactory memory banks and I have come to enjoy and look forward to it on subsequent test runs. Not sure if this is from a combination of the bergamot and "herbal notes" or the oakmoss, but it makes for an invigorating open. This greenness sticks around throughout, but it quickly gets mixed in with a smooth warmness from the vetiver and the patchouli. This gives it full bodied balance, and really evens out any of the initial sharpness that blasts your nose for the first few minutes. A background sweetness is also present, which weaves in well with the green and woody notes. It remains very clear throughout this, that all of these ingredients are indeed natural. I am transported to various outdoor locations throughout this. It is equal parts open desert, mixed with a spot of some lush green growth one might find in a riparian zone next to a long winding river. I think this leans masculine, but it could work on someone more feminine who enjoys natural, realistic outdoors inspired scents. If anyone is curious about checking more natural scents, I would highly recommend trying a few samples from Boyd's, Green Vetiver included. Once I am through this sample bottle, I would consider buying a full bottle. I may enjoy High Desert, from Boyd's more, but time will tell after I have spent more time with both.

Based on the name and the write up, I got the wrong impression about this one. I was expecting something earthy, root-y, with a prominent note of vetiver. But what I got was something closer to a classic masculine cologne style fragrance in the vein of Eau Sauvage or Colonia by Acqua di Parma. That doesn't disappoint me at all, just not what I was expecting. It opens with a blast of sharp, sour candy style citrus and fades into a musky, warmer base of patchouli and oakmoss. It actually reminds me a bit of my shave soap, Seville by Barrister and Mann. That's about it only transition. It's fairly straight forward and doesn't last all that long on my skin. The opening citrus fade over the course of an hour and it becomes a skin scent by hour 3-4. I like it! Wish it lasted a bit longer.
