The Beat for Men

This was my first perfume. So a lot of nostalgia is built into this review. Grain of salt. I had no clue what was cool or not when I bought this thing about 10 years ago. So whenever i was in an airport I would sniff a million strips and then spray a few I liked on my wrist and walk away. Two stuck with me: the Beat and Dior Homme. I had no clue what I was smelling but I knew I liked it. Bought a 50 ml and then would buy a new bottle whenever I went to the airport. It was great. So I just bought a $25 50 ml bottle from FragranceBuy for the nostalgia. And I completely regret it: I should've bought a bigger bottle!! It's awesome. There is a "peppery-ness" and a grapefruit-like citrus (pithy - more that white stuff than the actual juice) and it is way more floral than I remember. Violet makes sense. I thought I hated violet (Portrayal Man is a big dislike for me), but the Beat's violet is comparable just not powdery. And there's no musky-ness to this. Musk and powder don't really work for me. At all. Which I guess means: I love non-powdery violet and always have. Who knew?? For the money, this is very special. I have close to 40 fragrances now and the Beat is utterly unique. Yes, nostalgia may be speaking. I did live in a cloud of this stuff for a couple of years of my life. I will say this: one of the reasons I shifted over to Dior and then to Durga's Sir was longevity. By the end, I was going through 100 ml every few months and paying retail! I'm not sure what's going on with this bottle but this one spray on my wrist has lasted over an hour and is competeing with Amber Kiso for nostril space (though to be fair to the durga I've been wearing that one for 5 hours). The Beat is really good stuff. Completely understand why people might not jive, but I think of this as a plus. They don't jive because they've never smelled anything like it. I know i haven't and I've sampled 200 plus fragrances in the last 6 months. As for the chemically smell - I disagree. It has that dryness I associate with vetiver dominant fragrances. I used to describe this as chemically (I mean, technically, it is??). But now I recognize it as its own thing. Big thumbs up. P.S. this was a compliment monster for me. Jeremy Fragrance's wet dream-style unsolicited hot ladies and hot guy compliment monster. Never experienced that with Dior. I did with Durga Sir, but less so. I did with Journey Man but less so. I did with Nasamatto Duro, but less so. This is my most complimented fragrance ever. Do with that what you will.

the last time i bought a burberry, i sprayed it in the air in my room so i could get rid of it faster, but that still took me very long, so i gave it away to a female friend who loved it. it was Brit for men. BUT THIS, will only stay on my skin! not going anywhere else! I love the pepper and the overall feel from top to base. It is warm, but winter warm, november warm, december warm, january warm, if you get what i mean. but i am still going to wear it whenever i want, in any other months. the color really reflects the scent. it is very woody, like you are in a woody lodge, at night, reading a book, fireplace, pine trees,... that's what i felt when i was wearing it. when i wear it, it energizes me, giving me warmth. it is special, but may be not for everybody. silage is great and longevity is 6 hours +. IMO, it's the best ever from Burberry. The Beat really BEATS the rest of Burberry! and... the scent itself is so special, just like a niche perfume. -Mr. Almond-

I don't really understand all the negative comments on this one. I really love it. I get a lemon/ citrus type smell in top of pepper and an almost sweet, burnt wood smell. Very unique & addictive. This is a definite favorite of mine for cooler days. (I don't really like typical, ambery oriental scents, that most people wear I. The winter. So this provides a unique, different choice for cold weather. It's more like my usual fresh & aquatic type scents, only with more spices & wood added to suit colder weather. (But I admit, I even like The Beat in summer too). Anyway, if you're like me & you don't care for typical winter oriental scents & want something unique & sharper, I'd definitely recommend giving The Beat a try. (As I say, it's great if you love fresh scents & aquatics & are looking for something heavier & sharper in that same style.)

Update a few months after discovering this beauty: The Beat for men is the most beautiful woodsy fragrance I have ever tried after Encre Noire by Lalique. The Beat is woodsy and bitter from the first spritz. I does not evolve much from then onwards, it just fades little by little... but it lasts for a long time. I am a girl, this is a solid man's fragrance, but I love to wear it when I feel like smelling like a "freshly sharpened pencil" as I often call it when I joke with my husband. It makes me feel clean and ready for everything. I wear it at work sometimes, as it gives me that halo of authority I occasionally need. I think that what makes it really work is that bitter note given by the violet mixed with the vetiver. I absolutely love it! Funny thing: it smells more of violet in cold weather, and more of wood in warmer weather.

I wore Beat for women for a good long while, loving the citrus and pepper and blind bought the men's Beat for my spouse. I figured if he didn't like it, I would take it. One of my best BBs! He loved it, and so did I. Seriously, what does Oliver Polge smell like? It must be good, because you can trust his taste with everything. This is fresh but different, not overly sweet, must be the pepper and lemons -- 2 tastes my spouse loves. I was sad when he finished the bottle, but you can get a big one online for under $20. I want my sheets to smell like this. Bottle is very cool and modern too. This smells like modern masculinity to me.

Very unique scent, been wearing this for a long time for school and now at work (mainly when the weather is cold ish). Unfortunately the production of this fragrance is discontinued, so it is somewhat harder to find and buy than back in the day. Still in love with this scent. Projection is good, only it is lacking a bit in performance. Might want to try layering this one, so you have two layers on top of each other (spray ones, wait 1min to dry, and spray ones again). Also got compliments from colleagues on this one! For the ones who are unsure to buy/wear, just do it!

Ok, so you got your average, standard aquatic/citrusy summer scents... and then you got Burberry the Beat for Men. I am trying to cut down on my collection, to keep only the 'top of the crop' if you'd like. I tested most of my above mentioned summery colognes, and this stood out from the rest. Slightly feminine (i have a female co-worker who smells almost exactly like this, maybe she is in fact wearing it...??), but I kind of like my scents to be special too, not just being one in a million (Paco Rabanne anyone??) Absolutely worth hunting down and checking out.

My roommate uses this as his signature scent. I admit it smells wonderful. Yes, it's peppery spicy; almost metallic sharp but yet woodsy fresh with juicy citrus. The sillage and projection are crazy (or my roommate oversprays everytime) because everyday when he leaves the house, I can smell it from the front door all the way to his upstair bedroom for about an hour. The scent seems mature but young at heart. It smells really good tho and I would love to get one BUT I don't wanna smell like someone else, especially someone in the same household. :(

i dont know how many got the similarity with Zadig & Voltaire This Is Him...that one of a forresty/church like incense with also pepper and grapefruit...this one has more freshness and cedar with violets...i call this the day time version of Zadig This is him. so easy to wear, very long lasting, inexpensive and all year round scent for any occasion, thats the best part. love this under rated House alongside Zegna,lovely lil presentation also. Im giving this a solid 8/10 for the quality

A gorgeous and characterful fragrance. It's really pleasant and it's got the nicest cedar note ever. This is similar to Narciso for Him. Starts peppery with some violet then the dry down is a beautiful smooth spicy wood with some florals. Longevity and silage are both good. The Beat is pure class - in fact, one of the nicest woody fragrances I have ever tried. I just bought a 50 ml bottle and I'll be getting a 100ml when this has gone - fabulous!

The box and the bottle have a two-tone design and you can imagine the mods wearing it with their Ben Sherman gear and Doc Martens. It's a classy barbershop scent with decent projection and longevity for an edt (all day as a skin scent). Very versatilefor day and night. Plenty of black pepper (my fave ingredient), thyme, violet and a woody vetiver dry down. My favourite pepper scent at this price point. One for the lads - well done Burberry.

My wife bought this for me for our anniversary, She knows I love pepper in my fragrances. This is a very nice all-around cologne for men. The opening is bright and spirited with the pepper as it dries down you get a little more sweetness from the flowers and as you hit the bottom and he got a nice mellow woody scent. Performance is average, and that’s quite common for Burberry. But out of all my Burberry’s this is my favorite.

I must admit I bought this (without even having ever heard of Burberry) because it was on sale. It was 50 ml for less than 20 euros. I never looked back. It is amazing... it's dominant pepper notes may trouble some people (which I understand, since it's very strong) but I happen to love it. When I finished the bottle, I had to get another one immediately. It's amazing.

A gorgeous fragrance. The most bitter opening I have ever tried in a fragrance, followed by, just 2 minutes after, the most beautiful freshly cut wood note. I do not get any of the pepper. Just a hint of violet. I love it! A more sober version of Encre Noire by Lalique. A wonderful addition to my wardrobe. So happy I tried it!

I love this perfume! Simply amazing. Its for those who appreciate class and sophistication. You cant stop smelling yourself once you wear it. Its awesome. My favorite in my collection. (And I have the likes of Cool Water, Dunhill Desire, Ck One, Ck Eternity, etc. in my collection. But this one scores over all of them) 9.5/10

Nice to see some more positive reviews about this one. But I see where all the bashing comes from. Truly a love or hate frag. I personally love it. And boy, what a monster of sillage that is. I applied it on my wrist and could smell it with my hand in the pocket, while I was out in the streets. So yeah, use with caution.

I've been through 2 bottles of this & it is unique, definetly my favorite, and have never come across a similar scent before. On the annoying side, no ladies have ever complimented me on it. Is this one of those deals where guys think it's great and women not into it?

LOVE this cologne. Its outstanding! I remember smelling this on the artists of my favorite band at a concert. I get a ton of pepper, citron, and woody notes as well as some pine, with geranium on the dry down. The ladies will LOVE this stuff!

This one is Fantastic, smells like freshly squeezed lemons and black pepper in water with some sugar. Comparing side by side with Jimmy Choo Ice they are almost identical. I have layered them 2 together and scent has become more smoother.

I can't believe. The Beat is one of the longest lasting scent I have. Average longevity (on cold weather) is about 8-10 hours, with great projection. Lovely, sexy scent. I feel pepper and cinnamon what I simply love. 4.9/5 in my opinion

So fresh and energetic! I'm amazed at how some people have thrashed it here. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but its no slouch either. I like wearing this as a casual or going out on nights that have a bit of chill

This one is very spicy with some good citrus notes and in the breakdown i smell woody cedrat. I like this one! Been using this for 4 years now on the same bottle! Three sprays Is more than enough. High quality Juice.

Because so many others have reviewed this fragrance so well I will simply say...this is some AWESOME juice. I love wearing it. I love smelling it on me. Well worth every penny you will pay for it.

Very intriguing scent. Get a lot of compliments when I wear this. Its for a light and airy attitude. I find the initial shot of pepper to be a bit strong, but the dry down leaves it perfect.

Awesome longevity,smells spicy and citrusy, then turns warm and manly in the dry down. bought this for my boyfriend and it smells amazing! Manly for teens, long lasting, and amazing sillage.

Pity it's discontinued, smells like a bolder take on Opus 1870: same head notes (lots of black pepper and a bit of citrus), but the heart and the base are somewhat more aromatic.

The best Burberry perfume for me.

Imagine that you chopped some vegetable and you are smelling that, this was the feeling that I experienced in the first time. After a few minutes, pepper is added to that. In this time, perfume is a little spicy, but after 30 minute, pepper is faded out and citron and violet is fade in and a very pleasant scent is coming to your nose. In last notes, vetiver make a very good scent. It is semi happy odor. The bottle has a part that is like a lash and associated with its name (The beat) so good. I think that if the color of perfume was green, it was better described this perfume. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ در ابتدای اسپری؛ بویی که به مشام میرسه حالتی شبیه به این داره که در داخل یک مغازه ی سبزی خرد کنی هستید و سبزیهایی که زیاد هم آبدار نیستند و خرد شده اند رو دارید میبویید. بعد از گذشت مدتی بوی تند فلفلی به ترکیب اضافه میشه و عطر رو در 30 دقیقه ی اول استفاده کمی تند میکنه. که خوشبختانه این تندی زیاد طول نمیکشه و فقط در مرحله ی نتهای ابتدایی عطر باقی میمونه و دیگه نت فلفلی بعد از نیم ساعت تقریبا از صحنه خارج میشه درمرحله ی نتهای میانی؛ بوی عطر به مرحله ی ابتدایی برمیگرده (البته منظورم بوی گیاهی هست و نه اینکه کاملا نتهای ابتدایی به مشام برسن) ولی دیگه اون حالت سبزی مانند رو نداره و به لیمو ؛ بنفشه یک آکوردی رو ایجاد میکنن که خیلی ملیح هست و باعث میشه که عطر خیلی از این مرحله به بعد خوشبو بشه. آکورد حاصله طوری هست که شما هم میتونین با دقت زیاد بوی تک تک نتهای به لیمو و بنفشه رو تشخیص بدین؛ و هم این رایحه ی مذکور بصورت میکس با یکدیگر بویی ایجاد میکنه که مثل یک آهنگ سافت راک که گوش شما رو نوازش میده؛ یک احساس آرامش رو به شما هدیه میده در مرحله ی نتهای پایانیعطر؛ رایحه ی قبلی حفظ میشه و گیاه خس خس یا همون وتیور خودش رو نشون میده. خس خس خودش رو در اینجا با بویی نسبتا شاداب نشون میده و حالت خاکی مانند زیاد محسوس نیست. دوستانی که عطر گری وتیور از برند تام فورد رو تست کرده اند؛ متوجه منظور من در این مرحله حتما خواهند شد که یک بوی سبک بال ؛ آزاد منش و نسبتا شاد در اثر ورود خس خس ایجاد میشه در مجموع میتونم مراحل بویایی این عطر رو به این صورت تشبیه کنم که در نیم ساعت اول مثل حرکات پی در پی شلاق در هوا هست که یک حرکت بالا و پایین (سینوسی) و رفت و برگشت رو ایجاد میکنه و این حرکات اغتشاش آمیز حضور فلفل در صحنه رو بیان میکنه . با ورود نتهای میانی؛ اون ضربات شلاق مانند ضعیف و ضفیفتر میشن و در نهایت با ورود وتیور به صحنه؛ آرامشی که در مرحله ی نتهای میانی ایجاد شده بود؛ جای خودش رو به یک آرامش وصف نشدنی و بدون نقص میده این عطر از نظر طراحی و ظاهری بنظر من یک ایراد و یک حسن داره: ا ایرادی که از نظر من وجود داره؛ رنگ خود عطر هست. رنگ عطر آبی متمایل به سبزه. در حالیکه تصویر سازی ذهنی که از این عطر در ذهن مخاطب ایجاد میشه؛ بیشتر به رنگ سبز میخوره تا رنگ آبی حسن این عطر هم از نظر طراحی و ظاهری این هست که معنی این عطر به فارسی "ضرب وشتم" میشه. شما در ظاهر عطر هم میتونید قسمتی رو که شبیه به شلاق هست ببینید که یک هماهنگی خوبی با اسم عطر ایجاد کرده و تشبیهی رو هم که من در فوق از این عطر نوشتم رو میتونه بهتر به ذهن خواننده ی این نقد انتقال بده و تثبیت کنه... ا

Burberry is a solid house with bottles of scent that are usually more mainstream and middle-of-the-road, but a few bottles (including this one) put you in a strong like or dislike category. I, personally, really like this little gem created by Olivier Polge! VanAllan and missk wrote great reviews here. This has actually been in my collection and rotation for about 3 years. I initially wore just the EDT and really loved the great citrus blended with pepper on top - segueing into a wonderful violet note that blends the composition into a nice base of washed and dried (not rooty) vetiver. Peppery citrus that lasts - not sweet to me, but more spicy and aromatic with a shimmer of clean, metallic geranium that reasonates from the heart. I really appreciate the composition and balance. Too much violet could have made this like a lot of other fragrances (and ruined the sparkle that makes it unique and so enjoyable), but just the right amount was added along with geranium to compliment the vetiver's cleanliness, thus allowing the top notes to shine and sparkle on top. Brilliant. I bought a very nice set of EDT (to replace the one I went through) along with the excellent after shave balm that layers the scent perfectly, adding even more depth. The body wash is very nice and starts the experience well - great lather and also true to scent. Decent longevity with just EDT application (I always apply /spray on my shirt too), even better when layered with the excellent and rich alcohol-free after shave balm! Modern scent - but also a classic composition that smells clean, warm and fresh. This never gets heavy to me (but, then again, I love pepper in fragrance and this is a great use of it!) Overall score, 8/10, and applause for Olivier Polge. One of the best from the Burberry line of fragrance for men. Works year-round during the day and warmer evenings outdoors. Vibrant & versatile - you can wear this dressed up or down (I prefer down - but with some edge, as the scent offers that...so, attire to match). However, it could also be excellent as an office scent.

You have to try this parfum in 3 states. First state is after few second after applicating it on skin. There's lot of citron in it. And you can smell spice at the same intesity. These two tones are dominant. Plus somewhere in the corner is hiding vetiver which you can see now, and he's waiting for his time. Second state is after few minutes. The scent is more adult. It settles down. You can more easily smell other notes. Although the citron and spice and now also vetiver notes are still in the front line, but the vetiver starting to be very present and clear at this state. Third state, or third possibility when or how to try this scent is the one, that almost gave me a heart attack! Because i bought the parfum, and run with it home, and i was a little bit sweated, which i haven't realised at that point, and i wanted to try the Parfum ASAP, so i applicated it on the skin on my hand immediately. And the scent was nothing like note-description which is here. It was only citron, lemon and citron tones again. And i was like WTF? Somebody have to give wrong version, or it's broken. I was smelling it on and on again and it was still the same. So i waited a lil' bit and applicated it again, of course somewhere else, but i was already calmed down and dry as sand. Only at that time i smelled original notes which are in notes piramide. At this time both sprayed areas started to become one scent with no differences. But on my skin there still little bit more citron that it's in notes piramide, and i assume that it depends of lot of factors of your skin. Like pH and others and the scent can brake down on some people to more citrus like parfum. For me it's not the best choice, although i like the parfum, because i wanted to be more spicy and less citrusy fragrance. The Burberry London would be definitely much more appropriate for me.

Burberry The Beat is a forgotten scent that I got in a swap. I didn't know what to expect because this is a little bit of slept on scent. Nobody talks about it for positive reasons like say Burberry Touch and London or negative like Burberry Brit and most of its flankers and Mr. Burberry. Honestly, I don't know why this is. After I tried it, it is awesome. The Beat is a nice scent. It blasts you with pepper in the open but it isn't super annoying like other blast fragrances. After the pepper dials back, you get violet pretty strong. From there, it has some thyme in the mid before going into thee woody vetiver base. To me, The Beat is nearly in the Aqua Fahrenheit territory that Coty Stetson Caliber is with a far less green 212 Men open. The Beat works for dates, my ex liked it on my skin but ironically hated in the air at first. Like Stetson Caliber, it also works for work and casual wearings. Also like Stetson Caliber, The Beat is a spring, summer and fall scent. However it is more for days. The Beat's performance is where I start to turn on it. Now I'm not that bad with most Burberry scents but this don't last nearly as much as Stetson Caliber does, only going about six, borderline seven hours on my skin. Projection is alright as well with good projection for an hour. Burberry The Beat is pretty nice and will be a way to further stretch out my Stetson Calibers, but it can stand on its own. That said, it is lesser. For this, I give Burberry The Beat a 7.8 out of 10.

What a good scent! By the way, Burberry never let me down. At least, the ones I have, I really enjoy. The Beat is a pleasant cologne because it is also different: it doesn't fit in those known styles such as the greens from the ’80s or the gourmands from nowadays. It stays between the sober and the relaxed, the green and the aromatic, the classic, and the modern. Despite the fact that has citrus notes, I must confess that I haven't felt them in evidence. However, the black pepper and the violet are very powerful in its beginning. And the pepper remains until the end, which is amazing since it is not present in the base of the composition. The thyme here I don't even know how it smells, but the geranium has a fundamental place in the floral part of the evolution. And last, but not least, the woods and the delicious vetiver, which exhales at each movement of my body. The Beat presented excellent lasting, but the projection was not the best on my skin. It seems to be an intimate cologne, something to be felt by 2 people, as well as the beating of my heart. This is THE BEAT!

Sharp woody-citruses (almost metallic) burst combined with aromatic violet leaf and a strong pepper note is what you get initially from it. After a couple of hours, the pepper remains subdued in background and a beautiful green-herbal vetiver stands out together with the aromatic remains of violet and citruses, giving you for the next 5-6 hours an energetic feeling, pretty much elegant and enjoyable also. I understand the love/hate relationship others mentioned, but for me is nevertheless an interesting and masculine aroma. It gathers some of my preferred notes in a man fragrance: orange, violet leaf, pepper, vetiver. I also detected along the dry down some slight similarities with other two favorites: Terre d'Hermes and Bvlgari Extreme (citrus-pepper-vetiver-woody based fragrances). A must have (at least for me) so I ordered a big bottle 3.4 oz of this woody-green-aromatic juice. Btw, longevity and sillage are pretty amazing...I could detect it (with 2 sprays on my wrist) even next morning. My personal rank 8.5/10 ☣☣☣☣

Black pepper, citrus and cedar - in that order, with a touch of almost greenness. That's what I get out of this. Not a lot of punch, nor does it last very long - but I can forgive that in something so light and versatile. Due to the prominence of the three aforementioned notes, the Beat bears some similarities with some 90s and 00s aquatics like Nautica Island Voyage (long discontinued), modern clean-woody scents like Atelier Cedre Atlas, and believe it or not, toned-down woodies like Pal Zileri's Sartoriale (cedar note on drydown), while not being a rip off any of them. The combination of notes can all at once remind you of a nice clean shower gel and also a southeast Asian rainforest (that Tam Dao sharp woodsy kind of vibe), which really exceeds the sum of its basic notes. The Beat is eminently agreeable and unpretentious. I'm hard pressed to begrudge its short longevity given its versatility and amazing price-quality ratio. Solid "like" and blind buy safe.

I love Burberry fragrances. I haven't onwed one that let me down yet, and two of them are my favorites to wear. The Beat is an edgey fragrance that people either love or hate. It is along the same lines as BANG by Marc Jacobs, and in my opinion, better. BANG has something in it that really sets me off on opening. Almost like seasoned raw steak. The beat has more character I think, and is brighter, and really doesn't put me off like the first 30 minutes of BANG. Only problem is, you can find BANG at TJ Maxx or Marshalls for a lot less than you would pay for The Beat. If you like peppery, spicy, bright winter/fall scents, I would recommend you pay $10-20 more for Burberry's version. *update*- This stuff dries down fast. When it does, I get this overwhelming sense of cedar. How can there not be cedarwood in this fragrance? It smells JUST like Azzaro visit/celine fever after about 45 minutes, and the longevity is really good with the drydown for about 6 hours.

Follows the Burberry The Beat DNA Very elegant and versatile, suitable for young professionals, unisex leaning masculine. The peppery notes develop more and more every second, giving the perfume a more settled scent, more mature and refined. As if time grows on skin... the first minutes upon spraying remind of a young professional, and at dry down it’s another story, one of a sophisticated, experienced and assertive man. I wanted initially to say this is office safe, but actually it would be risky to wear at work — you know what I mean...! However spraying too much would be a mistake. A safe buy and would make a sophisticated gift to any person. I did some research on this fragrance and an interesting realization came over me: Burberry: The Beat.. lots of Black Pepper.. What makes a beat in a song? The Kick. The black pepper gives it a “Kick”. It’s called The Beat because it has a Kick to it. Lmao Very clever on their part for that. Anyways, the fragrance is mostly Black Pepper and Citron, through and through. I’m personally a big fan of Black Pepper, so it makes most of it’s points there, though I could see how it could be off putting for some. It’s not an easy-going fragrance. There’s a nuanced woody quality that reminds me of a Drum Kit, or practice room/recording studio, and the Citron adds a certain sharp lemon quality to it. Performance is just where it should be. Lasts about 6 hours, projects for the first hour or so. I give this a 7.5/10. You’ll definitely stand out with this one. Some may like it, some may not. Either it, wear it with confidence.
