Eau Parfumee au The Noir

NB FRAGRANTICA STAFF: The main picture for this perfume is actually for the Eau de Cologne Intense formula (Frag perfume #52922) with the GOLD label. The perfume on this page Eau Parfumee au The Noir actually has a WHITE LABEL with gold writing; it is pictured in Picture No.1 to the right of main bottle entry picture. I received this on Christmas Eve this year (2018), along with SIX other Bvlgari perfumes/colognes from four of their collections. I almost had my Dear One order me the Extreme version (literally twice as much for the same mL's) but after smelling this cologne am grateful I opted for the lower concentration. I have yet to do a full wearing (once sniffed on mouillette strip and once walking through a mist) but this is NOT what I expected or osmagined. It's unlike the other tea scents in the novel (for this genre, anyway) addition of 2/3 of a Mukhallat formula-oud & rose in addition to tobacco and patchouli! I want to say these overpower the smoky Lapsang Suchong black tea but instead they are blended in such a masterful way as to create something breathtaking and bold yet still chic calm and collected. Each of these ingredients in Maitre Cavallier's "the noir" recipe bring out some other inherently interesting facet of each other while still maintaining an overall harmony that's utterly graceful while emanating a shadowy exotic mystique. Nowhere near "watery" or tea-like this is an inky infusion of warmth blended with a decoction of aquilaria some honeyed rose petals before being stirred by a black vanilla bean-which was not included. I do not know what type of agarwood was used here but it's fruitier and smokier not barnyard or medicinal. I believe a similar note was used in whole or part by CREED in their Royal Oud. So yes, it's designer-but it's pretty damn good. No, it's not your typical tea-centric fragrance (this House has enough of those already)-it is however a delightful dark and devilish brew. To me it almost comes across as Gothic with the seductive rose and smoky sweet oud cradled by tobacco (light Turkish or blossom I'd wager) and more green than woody patchouli leaves. One sniff it's a mukhallat chiffon...the next sniff its a gentlemanly woody aromatic...next it has become this softly smoke-infused leather and tea accord that still wafts an oriental mélange fading softly in the background. This is superb! Sillage: very good Longevity: excellent Overall: 4.25/5 Despite the fact I acquired this from an online discount retailer (who has flashing ads at the bottom of perfume pages) for a quite reasonable price of $42 US; it is something I would pay retail price for-it's that god. If, like myself, you dig perfumes that are: dark, flowery, bold, smoky, exotic and well done you should do yourself a favor and test this. It surprised the hell out of me... I was so "over" the whole saffron-rose-oud thing from the last few years. This did that in a completely groovy way while incorporating the tea theme, another craze I mistakenly thought was never going to produce anything new or exciting. Without giving up one iota of quality this delivers a Middle Eastern/Oriental vibe while being neither heavy handed nor too minimalist. This is a rich and vibrant tapestry woven flawlessly; but, then again it IS a Cavallier-Belletrud. I figured I would respect this for its craftsmanship and move onto the next wan vapid perfume-by-numbers the mass markets clamor for so vehemently. SO far beyond that, The Noir lends both translucent warmth and intense aromas as it steams and steeps. I osmagine this is much more versatile than most tea scents as it can be worn in the winter (day) or spring and summer (evening). It's a refreshingly light take on an often aromatic and dense dark genre making it a great choice for warmer spring days and cool summer nights. I can't wait to rock this on a melancholy cool damp spring day... smell swell & be well, GP xox

Personally I love this. I too received the Emirates business class Bvlgari wash kit. Unfortunately I wasn't on the flight but when my parents flew the cabin crew were kind enough to give them a spare for me on the return leg. Anyway - Tea? Maybe not. I detect mostly light leather with some tobacco and perhaps soap. It reminds me of a classic dusty barber shop scent. It sits close to the skin and smells very clean (old school clean). The difference being the leathery scent is pronounced. It's not just a desirable dry down after the main scent fades, it is the showpiece. It's how I want all classic barber shop scents to sit. The clean scent is utterly addictive, I just can't stop sniffing my wrist. Perhaps because it is so light. Sometimes I just want leather but I don't want the heavy overbearing scent. This is the answer. You can wear this with the confidence that it's not going to get up anybody's nose. A great all rounder. It does work in the winter but I much prefer it as a daytime scent in warmer (but not baking hot) weather. Just to add - something many may raise an eyebrow at - the scent reminds me of a dried down Dior Fahrenheit, just weaker and far less sweet. I imagine if you took the petrol out of Fahrenheit you'd end up with something like this. The body lotion is also excellent. Almost as strong as the cologne. In fact after the cologne has dried down, it does have the subtleness of a body lotion scent. Perhaps that is why the lotion also works very well.

Well, I have to say that this one surprised me. I thought this would be a very easy to wear with no Oud in here but, surprisingly, this has a little bit of a skanky Oud in the back of it, which is quite good to be honest. When you spray this you'll be able to smell the rose with some bergamot and a shy tea note. Love this unisex fresh opening! 10min later the tea will dominate the fragrance and the leather accord appears. There's a good accord here. Like the one you'll find in Black from the same brand or even Midnight in Paris but without the rubber note. Excellent! The Oud is there basically since the tea starts to shine. Is giving a skanky yet sexy vibe from this and later on, the fragrance turns a little bit yummy. It's complex and has all the three stages very well achieved! The Oud isn't potent but isn't that synthetic so I really appreciate it. Bravo Mr. Jacques Cavallier! Heavenly! The performance is not great. It's suave but I love it that way. It's comforting and I love to wear it on a breezy spring/summer night. The price is very adequate and you can find a 75ml bottle for less than 50€. The quality is great too! I recommend it to everyone that likes Tea, rose and a tiny touch of Oud.

This is the best leather and tobacco perfume I have smelled, and it is the one I have been looking for. This perfume brings back memories of my childhood. The leather accord is so well done, it truly smells like an untreated hide of leather. My Mother was a leather craftsperson and we had leather hides all over the house, she made beautiful things w/ them until arthritis claimed her hands. Believe me this is the best leather accord in perfume I have smelled. The tobacco in here is just as true and rich as the finest pipe tobacco and I was surrounded as a child by hard working men who loved to smoke a pipe in the evening to relax. I miss that smell. The rose in here adds a bit of softness and keeps the perfume from becoming too overwhelming from the richness of the leather and tobacco. The oud, and patchouli round out the perfume in the base and keep it going strong. I love this one and will be ordering a full bottle right away. Oh, medicinal oud in the dry down. This is just a stunner. Big Love! My husband wants to share the bottle w/ me and that will be fine.

Nobody does abstract, contemplative fragrances better than Jacques Cavallier. His early work, from M7 and Rive Gauche pour Homme to Feu d'Issey stands alongside the giants of 20th century perfumery. Eau Parfumee au The Noir (EPaTN) may be his greatest achievement. This is a flawlessly executed olfactory sculpture. The medium, of course, is wood. And Cavallier's genius here is to make the entire composition so polished, so clean, and yet also so challenging. More than any fragrance I can remember, I find myself obsessively the mysteries and contradictions in EPaTN. It is deeply bitter, yet honeyed. Totally masculine, yet unlike any other masculine fragrance on the market today. It is mainstream, but more daring than 99.9% of the niche offerings. Wow. This is the scent of a clean woodshop, the private domain of a master artist and craftsman. Thank you, Monsieur Cavallier for bringing EPaTN into the world.

A blind buy after I read a review on Basenotes or...here. Can’t remember, nor can I remember what complex spiderweb of google searching got me to that page, as I don’t even think I was searching for scents at all! Clearly this was meant to be... This one is very far out of my usual lane (citrus) and I am a little obsessed. I find it strong and long-lasting, but of course with COVID I am not going out among people very often, so I am enjoying it privately at home, regularly smelling my wrist and taking deep appreciative whiffs in a way that would look absolutely insane to anyone watching. The intro is very brief, as though tea has only a cameo role as someone who ushers you into a stable full of well-maintained horse tack. This is so smoky and deep and leathery and I never thought those would be my jam. But here we are. Thanks, random google search gremlins.

Stepped out of my comfort zone with this one, because I wanted more tea scents, and I'm so glad I did. It leans quite masculine in my opinion (I would LOVE to smell this on a man). When I first sprayed it I got a lot of leather and kind of a motor oil/garage smell and I was worried I'd made a mistake but now that I'm wearing it, I love it! The deep dry down especially is just gorgeous! Just the slightest hint of sweetness, a whisper of rose, a touch of smokiness and tobacco against a beautiful blend of black tea and woods. Do give it a chance to settle into your skin before you judge. I don't think you'll be disappointed! This regular version I have is rather light, which is fine by me. I'm going to use this as a palate cleanser between fruity floral days. It's beautiful!

I have just received my bottle and it's love at first sniff! I have blind bought this one a bit affraid because of the price and the weakness of the line. None of that is important once you smell this. It's definitely more masculine than unisex. I'm a woman who has been using men's fragrances for a while so this is not a problem for me, but i believe it is important to know this if you are going to blind buy it. The rose is very shy. I get mostly woods (the best quality ones) and a transparency not often found in this type of perfumes. The fact that it's not stong makes it wearable in more occasions and seasons. It's a lot stonger than the Blanc flanker. Monsieur Cavallier, Chapeau! Once again he brought to the world an exquisite smelling criature.

Update: Loving this rich tea scent more and more on my skin (still not the best on my clothes). It's like the deepest earl grey tea and also soft. I am about to order a back up. Leather (smells like a purse), rose, all in a watery black tea, but also more interesting and nuanced than I just described. When people say it is both heavy and light, I understand exactly what they mean. I really like it on my skin, smells sublime and the tea dominates, and one of the few tea scents that you could even wear at night in the right context, but somehow it is a bit too heavy or masculine, when I spray directly on my clothes. Perhaps then the leather becomes more prominent. I am not sure. Lasts 6+ hours with moderate projection.

Beautifully blended and sophisticated fragrance. This is great for people who think TF Black Orchid or other popular leather/tobacco fragrances are too beastly and powerful, this is a nice alternative that is lighter, more user friendly, and slightly leaning feminine. I get an initial anise note when first sprayed which dissipates rather quickly. It settles to a smooth leader, light tobacco, and just a bit of dry rose in the background. You definitely get a tea note, that's infused into the fragrance, and it doesn't stick out like a distinctive note. Warm patchouli but not overbearing. It's sophisticated yet at the same time, a very empowering "don't mess with me" type of vibe.

My favorite black teas are Earl Grey and Lapsang Souchong, and Eau Parfumee au The Noir somehow evokes both. It opens with pronounced oud and tobacco, that eventually mellows to a somewhat green, aromatic tea, still shrouded by smoke. There is a also a dark, dry, plaintive rose in the heart that provides the shadows to any semblance of brightness, while the base is mercurial, with all aforementioned elements appearing ghostly and uncertain, a bittersweet skin scent that haunts. A 5 oz bottle is perfect for generous application, as I find that several sprays help you reach that sweet spot where the fragrance carries with you for a decent amount of time.

I received this from a friend last Christmas. It came in a lovely gift box with two soaps, two mini lotions and shower gels, and the perfume. This is definitely a "me" scent. I like the other scents in the Eau Parfumee line from Bvlgari, but this is most like my personality and what I enjoy. It has a slight edge to it, enough to make it unique from the others in the line which are lighter in comparison. This isn't a heavy fragrance though, it is smoky and deep with tobacco, patchouli, oud, black tea, leather. Those are the notes I pick up most. Definitely worth checking out for something that is different and not in your face.

Like a bruised dark cloud passing in front of the sun Eau Parfumee au The Noir casts a slowly moving shadow on the rolling hills below. It sits close to the skin; a masterful blend of smoky black tea, rose and soft leather. A hint of aromatic tobacco and a well calibrated woody coda, demonstrate the work of an inspired creator (Jacques Cavallier Belletrud) totally absorbed and at one with his materials. The result is a quietly magical; somnolent and curiously affecting reverie on the nature of light and shade in perfumery. I love it!

The combination of notes are well balanced. This must be on the best leather & oud scent out there. The leather here is very proper and the oud rhymes with it perfectly. The black tea adds a feel of lightness and transparency to it. Definitely unisex and versatile. Can be worn all day, but best on night time. Also the price point is very nice. A lot cheaper than niche fragrances that offer the same effect but on a much higher price. One of Bvlgari's best imho. I will be definitely including this in my all time favorites.

Is it a oud scent? A tea one? A leather one? It's all of these things, smoothly combined so no edges show. Nothing "jumps out" at you, so at first I was a bit puzzled by this one, but now I'm addicted. It's deep and serious but at the same time very wearable and fresh, a rare combination. Sometimes it's very tea like and astringent, sometimes rosey-lemony, sometimes leather, other times its almost like a straightforward oud scent. Fantastic!

Really excellent. It is definitely a tea scent, but it is blended to the point where I don't get the individual leather or oud or tobacco notes. I just get this dark, herbal, sweet, brooding tea scent that lasts close to the skin for a good 6+ hours. This is my kind of cologne! Edit: I am shocked by how long this lasts. I can still smell a hint of it 24+ hours after my last application. Something in this just sticks to my skin.

On a pure value scale of quality/price this might be the best rose-oud out there imho. The use of that (obviously not real, but typical) oud combo with rose is great, but rounded out nicely with a smoky tea and leather mix. I wouldn't necessarily recommend a blind buy, it's still a strong and bold presence but if you like this darker style of fragrance this is a great pickup for the price you can get it at.

Somehow this reminded me of a less macho version of Bvlgari Black- the tea note was much more noticeable, the rose added a faint powdery touch, and the woody and leather notes together made the dry down very cozy. I will note that the rose, patchouli, and tea notes project more in warmer weather or if the wearer warms up. This lasts about five hours on skin but it lingers on clothes for at least nine hours.

A deep and elegant oriental scent which focuses on black tea and accentuated with tobacco, rose and oud giving it a Middle Eastern vibe.. It is a well-balanced concoction and although it comes in cologne intense concentration, the performance is satisfactory.. I would indulge myself of this scent at any given time.. Please do yourself a favor and try it if you get the chance..

On first sniff, it smells heavily of wood and chypre, but it really develops and evolves over a few hours on the skin. The dry down is hard to pin down: it continually shifts from black tea, to oud, to rose, back to tea again. I agree with Tiwalii's description - it's sexy and warm, like being wrapped up in a cashmere throw sitting on a leather couch in front of a fire.

its an adorable perfume , far from the heaviness of oud , it is oriental yes , but soft romantic and shining . Tobacco & tea leaves are here to soother the strength of oud and rose . Likely this perfume is the mix of most matching ingredient together in a well balanced proportions . i loved it really from the 1st sniff . Merci Bvlgary , Merci Mr.Jacques Cavallier .

I've just used a small 40ml body lotion, which I got as a gift. That smell was amazing. It was projecting through a shirt and long sleeve thermal shirt. I wish it was available in a reasonable price or at least a solid clone/smell-a-like was mentioned here and there. Any recommendations?

I'm not great at determining exact notes yet, but I can say that on me it smells very dark with something mobile and green underneath. Smells wildly different depending on what it's sprayed on and where you are in relation to it. This, I think, is what makes it an all-time favourite.

I'm really digging this, just the right type of leather that I enjoy. There's an interesting play between the leather and black tea that makes it unique to my nose. It's a dark fragrance, but not too dark. Thumbs up.

this is by no means an oud....to me it smells like a lit cigarette without the annoying smoke and softened with the rose. it is the mix of tea tobacco and rose that dominate this scent in my opinion....

An introvert, had not taken notice of its quiet subtlety until now. I was looking for something to wear on summer evenings at the local milonga. This matches tango salon Villa Urquiza to a tee.

That tea gives me a very mossy vibe on the opening, it dries down incredibly though, tea mixed with rose really works well. It's really special. A very unique take on a rose & oud combo 9/10

One of the most refined tobacco leather scents I have. The tea and rose give this an ethereal quality that you can't find in any tobacco leather scent.

Got a tiny vial of it, Notes of tea and roses, very fresh. Tho it does not last on my skin at all so it’s more of a cologne to me.

I like it but not in love with it. Prefer Bvlgari Eau the Parfumee Au The Rouge over this. NOT LONG LASTING, LOW SILLAGE. 7/10

On my skin this smells exactly like Hermes Agar Ebene.

Bulgari has been in the tea game longer than anyone else. Their/the OG, the Ellena composition Au The Vert, was their very first fragrance and arguably launched the craze and the hunt for the elusive true tea accord in perfumery. Bulgari played around with this a lot, even using it to such extremes as to be almost unrecognizable (yet arguably more tea-like) in 1998’s Black EdT. Twenty-three years on in the tea-perfume game, did they get a black tea perfume in Au The Noir? Nope. The opening is a lemony citrus floral type note. Magnolia might be believable, but the opening effervesces and has a noticeable sour quality - like the steam heating up a slice of lemon laid overtop a fresh brew. Only after this do the florals become more obvious, and it’s a pink-fruity-floral of some type. Rose and magnolia, maybe, but this seems more like osmanthus steered hard into its guava-white-rose aspects. Slowly but surely, a somewhat funky woody quality begins to bloom and continue to grow. You’ll see oud mentioned by a lot of people at this point, but I’m not buying it. What I’m pulling is a muted yet dank patchouli given a few drops of akigalawood - or something more along those lines than actual oud. There is a dark wood, a loamy earthiness, and something a touch funky but it could hardly be distinguished from the funk of oud or the dankness of patchouli mainly because the entirety of this accord is very quiet and well behaved. All of the possible contrasts and shadows that could be generated here to give the notes and their materials better visibility and identity have been smoothed down to the thickness and texture of a sheet of paper. It’s not a tea perfume. I don’t smell this and connect my beloved Ceylon, darjeeling (in general, nor first nor second flushes), golden monkey, Assam, or lapsang souchong. Something more pedestrian, like Earl Grey perhaps - particularly with the lemony effervescence at the top. When I think of Au The Noir, I describe it to people as an osmanthus woody patchouli perfume... because that’s really what it is, and as an osmanthus woody patchouli perfume I have to say it is really very nice. Every single note smells lovely, even the intentionally muted ones. It has the character you want out of the better osmanthus-y perfumes in that how much you spray can alter the character of the notes to minor but noticeable degrees. When you spray a lot of aTN you get more smokey and leathery wood out of it, in addition to more florals; spray a little, the fruity aspect seems to have relatively equal durability to the florals, and the smokey and leathery aspects go very quiet relative to the woody patchouli. Few people are going to douse themselves in this (given it’s now discontinued and expensive), and few people are going to put tiny amounts on themselves since it’s an EdT and you want to be able to smell it; ipso facto, supradictus.

Woah! This is one of the most unique things I've smelled in a while, I can honestly say I haven't come across something quite like The Noir. I was encouraged to try it in store at first on a card and couldn't really get to grips with it? Having worn it now I can't say I'm any the wiser? Contrary to some of the thoughts expressed below, I get loads of tea from this fragrance especially in the opening but undoubtedly continuing throughout. Bvlgari do have a bit of a love affair with tea and I have to say I really love the original Men's fragrance, without actually owning a bottle. (I must put that right one day) The tea in this is not typical, black tea but much more oriental, dark fragrant but still with a metallic edge. Tobacco and oud (apparently) give this strange concoction a smokey depth which further adds to the tea, and with a hint of rose in there this fragrance is full to the brim with interest. I get a patchouli base which comes on more in the drydown but is yet again adding to the contradictory, clean meets dirty, natural vibes of this whole perfume. I could talk and talk about this fragrance and despite my seemingly glowing appraisal, at the end of the day I came to the conclusion...I don't completely like The Noir. It has some properties I just can't abide and I'd even go as far to say the dry down gets even worse but as a perfume composition, I think it's truly excellent and something I'd love to grow on me. So Bravo Jacques Cavallier! I'm even that much of an adventurer now that I kinda want to add this to my collection, rather than sticking to safe stuff which ticks wear-ability boxes for me. I want to be challenged and this juice did that. Performance was pretty good too and the silage was a silent creeper, that keeps letting you know it's there. Fascinating stuff, I'd encourage anyone to try this.

A very interesting break from the rest of the tea line, this is a markedly darker and thicker perfume than the others. The most prominent notes are Rose and Leather, to the point where the tea note is very difficult to pick out. This is, however, supposed to be black tea, and so the note is likely tightly integrated into the tobacco and patchouli (themselves also playing a distant background role). Thankfully, this is not a fruity floral or a cloying, sandbagged oriental. It is a clear, forward leaning leather; perhaps ostensibly chypre-like (if we are trying to fit this into a category). The overall effect is like that of new gloves; a very smooth, slightly powdery leather. The soft rose has a feminine feel, but the bitterness of the leather prevents it from being a fully feminine perfume. It smells like the kind of "house signature" a luxury goods manufacturer would perfume their womens line with; the kind of fragrance women would step into the store just to smell, would covet for as long as their new purchase would give it, and would be desperate to own despite how jealously guarded it is by the house (and not sold as a retail fragrance). There is not much in the way of evolution; the leather becomes more powdery and the rose stays on top throughout the 8 hour lifespan. Sillage and projection is on the moderate to heavy side. Those who enjoy Dsquared Potion Royal Black are encouraged to try this (and even those that dont). By the standards of the community, this may be considered slightly masculine, but any rose prominent scent is always somewhat feminine to my nose, and as such I would say this is firmly unisex. However, I think it may find its truest home on a very sultry, smoldering woman.

Having read Luca Turin's and Tania Sanchez's books, I knew that any scents given a 4 or 5 star rating were at least worth checking out. This was rated a full FIVE stars. Had I not smelled Acqua Di Parma's Colonia Ambra prior to this, I would have been pleasantly surprised. Instead, this was deja vu - so I personally didn't find this that special. The funny thing is these two fragrances don't share the same notes which makes you wonder about the role "notes" play in the advertising of a fragrance. In layman terms, here's what I get with the Eau Parfumee Noir: a very smooth, light but everlasting smell of rose-scented silky leather with a background smell of band-aids (what I presume is to represent the oud note). This could easily be mistaken for the smell of a scented men's lotion. There's no real development here - linear throughout the life of the scent on skin. Longevity is very good for an EDC though. 12 hours at least on my skin but it's NOT a projection monster - it's mostly a skin scent. This makes it suitable for ALL occasions and 3 out of 4 seasons (excluding the high heat of summer although you could pull it off with limited sprays). Is this signature-scent worthy? YES Is this a complex, multi-layered and RICH smelling fragrance? NO Does this fragrance smell like it's made of quality? YES Is this a blind buy worthy fragrance? NO This is a fragrance for someone who knows exactly what they are looking for - it's a specific kind of smell and is not mass-appealing nor is it extremely challenging. Sample it first. Rose + oud yet AGAIN but done in an unusually transparent, watery way - and I don't mean that as a bad thing - it's not my preferred treatment but it's carried off here with some style. You definitely know it's an EdC - the rose is light and dewy rather than velvety-soft, and the oud is the slightly astringent, antiseptic type rather than anything richer or stinkier. And there are no oriental-style spices in there to beef things up either. I couldn't detect any tea specifically but maybe it was just there punching up the whole tannic-sourish greenish side. So it's a bit wispy and airy overall, yet there's a brave sort of clarity and some real punch to the oud. Certainly distinctive (without being weird) and classy (without feeling opulent - just low-key quality). On skin this seemed a little weak on me but on textiles it's a beast - a cotton sweater still *reeked* of it 24 h later, and with the oud even stronger and darker than before and the patchouli beginning to properly simmer a bit. Not really for me as I prefer a rose/oud mix to have a proper rounding-out with resins and spices and all sorts, to make a lusher, warmer sort of scent, but if you love rose, oud, or both, and want something specifically fresh it could make you very happy. Overpriced at full retail, but seems to be available at honking discounts which make it very good value for money if it rings your bell.

The correct notes: Top Notes: Rose Absolute - Bergamot Essence Heart Notes: Black Tea Accord - Magnolia Essence Base Notes: Oud Wood - Patchouli This is an interesting take on tea. Smells very refreshing, yet elegant. It feels like sitting in a room with dark wood panels, in a vintage Chesterfield sofa, with an elegant, english porcelaine cup filled with fragrant quality Earl Grey in your hands. On the table in front of you there is a crystal vase filled with freshly picked roses and magnolias from the garden. It's a cologne type of scent, so it is not very strong, and therefore the oud is not very harsh either. It just gives the scent that dark wood and leather feeling, and also adds a soft smokyness that's barely there. The heart of the scent, which blooms with an amazingly rich rose and magnolia combo, reminds me a lot about Green Tea Camellia from Elizabeth Arden. For me that is a good thing, because it's one of my tea favourites. I really like it! Sillage is soft, and longevity is 5-6 hours on my skin, which is quite good for a cologne I would say. :)

Masterfully well-blended rose oud combo This is a rose-oud type of fragrance with a combination of leather and tobacco to add masculinity. The green tea note here adds a freshness to the fragrance. I am not a fan of rose-oud fragrance but have tried several samples from various brands. To me, this is one of the best rose-oud combos ever created. It's refined and masterfully constructed which makes it difficult to find a negative point on it. The good thing is that it's not a Middle Eastern type of rose oud, it's created based on the Western taste and style. But you should like this category, that's the reason for most negative comments below, not all fragrance categories work for all people, everybody has his/her own favorites. It's sadly discontinued ... Grab a full bottle if you find it somewhere 8/10

Great stuff! It's like a tribute to the original Bvlgari Black and the whole tea collection (The one to end it all)! It's a VERY leathery (+smoky) black tea with some rose and minimal "oud"; I don't know how some can perceive it as a rose-oud dominant scent because it isn't (although it has a "touch" of Zegna's Indonesian Oud made by the same nose).. To be honest, none of the tea fragrances from this brand smells like the said tea except maybe Rouge and this (while The Bleu is also very tea-like, it's supposed to be Chinese Oolong, which bears no resemblance), so you can either single this one out for no good reason or simply move-on to Jo Malone's new Rare Teas :)

Tried it during my ongoing quest after perfect "cha" perfume. Dismissed it because it would be too extravagant for me to wear avant-garde perfume, or at least to wear one for men (I am of the opposite sex). Although it could be proclaimed unisex. It is very fine, very quiet, very subtle and very neutral, somehow subdued and unobtrusive, although present. I think the best description for this perfume would be "presence at the verge of absence". Presume there is great craft needed from someone who would be able to create such perfume. Well, these days I saw that it got 5 stars in LT newest guide. So if you are into non-conventional perfumes, go ahead

Just tried this today and I enjoyed it a lot. On my skin, it opens with strong oud and tobacco, but then these notes tame a bit and beautifully blend with the rose and the tea. It reminds me a lot of Dior's Midnight Poison, only juicier and less patchoulish (this shouldn't be a surprise, as both are Cavallier's perfumes). The only downside for me is that I seem to become anosmic to it after an hour or so, even though the scent is still there, as others have complimented my perfume. Based on this, I'd say it lasts about 4h with an arms-length projection. 8/10

Everything has been already said about the scent, it’s beautiful, classy, subtle, aristocratic.. But apart from that I just have to emphasise and agree with one of the reviewers of the “intense” version, that this is by far the best quality atomiser I have come across in years.. Gives a superfine mist and you can easily “dose” the amount of juice depending how much you press and hold the sprayer. Unlike my favourite scent Jour d’ Hermes Absolu.. went through at least 4 bottles and same lousy sprayer..

Bvlgari Eau Parfumee au The Noir (2015)- tea oud-smoke - #jacquescavallier creates this über refined perfume that starts with black tea and rose, the floral accord giving a fruity component to the perfume. Then, it transitions to the lightest oud accord you can smell, tobacco, incense on a woody and mossy base. I just hope it lasted longer, but it gives me so much pleasure to keep on re-applying anyway - that I don’t mind. Versatile and there’s no such thing as over spraying with this.

Signature Bvlgari DNA and you can spot it right away if you have a bit of experience dealing with Bvlgari offerings. This is an airy masculine oud that is bordering feminine had it not been for the tobacco. Very posh/elegant/universal scent that can be worn indoors or outdoors. Good quality that lasts almost all day but you go nose blind pretty quickly. A nice scent that is quite enjoyable if you ask me. Definitely not mass market which is why i like it so much.

Gorgeous fragrance. The scent is more transparent and airy somehow, not heavy or thick as the listed notes may suggest. The opening reminds me a little bit of Masque Milano Russian Tea, but The Noir is sweeter, less smokey, not as masculine. If you are wondering what the difference is between this and the Intense version - they are very similar, actually. The Intense seems a touch sweeter and more rosy/perfumey. I think I like the original a little better.

At the first whiff, the patchouli scent hit me head on! Wasn't what I expected at all and I prepared to hate it. But the dry down is delicious. Smells like expensive tobacco, roses and tea and a little bit of leather. Sometimes you get a woodsy note but not much. I would love to smell it on a man, but honestly it just gives the older, confident and rich vibe - man or woman.

Interesting. "The Noire" is a beautiful and elegant tea scent designed over a very fresh and clean leather, a clever woody oud-patchouli accord, and a soapy floral aura. Many would have gone head over heels had this been labeled as "Cuir et Thé" by Maison Christian Dior or Frederic Malle. Versatile, unisex, likeable, different, and modern. Very nice!

I ordered a small bottle of eau de cologne to try it out, as I love 3 other Bvlgari au thé perfumes. It smells just as ‘dark’ as reviews say, but I like it a lot. I get whiffs of the oud, the tobacco and the leather, but it definitely smells great on a woman like me. Edit: I ended up buying a 2.5 oz. bottle and it’s absolutely delicious!
