Do It For Love

I love this neroli scent- it manages to be fresh, uplifting, mood-boosting, cozy, comforting, and alluring all at the same time. The bright citrus opening dries down to a white floral beauty. The vetiver supports the composition without being overbearing. How is this fragrance not more raved about? One of my favorite Kilian.

It’s... fine? It’s really weird. The petitgrain really comes out on my skin and gives it a chlorinated pool smell. I like the burst of neroli at the beginning but after 20 mins it veers into something weird. It has the same bitter smell like ash does - it must be the petitgrain. It’s just ok. I don’t think I’ll ever wear it again though.

Given the relatively common structure of the note breakdown, I was expecting something unoriginal.. another fragrance to keep with Neroli Portfino.. but that is absolutely not the case. The orange blossom in this fragrance is SO real. A few days before trying this, I picked a blossom off of an actual orange tree and smelled it. I got vibes of neroli dominant perfumes, but the scent was something all on its own. Do It For Love is an incredibly realistic take on the note.. it’s punchy, bright, a bit sweet, but also has an unexplainable darkness to it.. and that’s just the opening. Matched with citrus, the opening is inviting and invigorating, but then the fragrance changes. Jasmine comes in to add a bit more of a sweet, floral component but without making the fragrance feminine. Lastly, the vetiver comes in to add a little bit of woodiness. The fragrances is well blended and is far from being linear. Though Kilian’s site mentions it femininity, I find it to be totally unisex. For a fresh fragrance, the lasting power is incredible. I woke up this morning still smelling it from last night. It projected prettt well for about 3 hours on my skin. I purchased a full bottle!

I found this fragrance because one of my favorite scents is La Botaniste by Corpus, which is actually a deodorant. Those notes are listed as petitgrain, vetiver, geranium, and citrus. I’ve tried every vetiver fragrance I could find over the past 5 years, hoping anything was close, as I want to bottle the deo scent so badly. Nada. Recently, I happened across the notes of this Kilian, and bit my tongue thinking it may do it- so I went to sample, and found that not only did it smell by far the closest to La Botaniste, but it’s dry down is like another non-perfume fave- the Gorgeous mousturizer at Lush (must be the neroli)! So basically, it’s my holy grail scents combined, and a total unicorn. I think the bottle is hideous, however- black and gaudy red lipstick are not the vibe of this light, green, pretty frag. Their coffrets are such an unnecessary add too (unless you’re gifting). Still, hoping Kilian eventually adds this to their main line with refills because it has the potential to become signature for me.
