Reine de Nuit

Extraordinary fragrance. Unisex, but very flamboyant and loud. For the right mood and person. Longivety and sillage is huge. Radiates of your skin for hours and hours. I almost felt there was oud in this, but it could have been the saffron. Either way it smells deep, high quality and perfectly balanced between floral, fruity and balsamic, with woody nuances. Don’t kill me, but it almost smells like a unisex, high quality, balsamic, super lush Armani Si. Wore it at a relaxing evening at home once, had to scrub it of. Then I wore it out on the town and at a party a couple of times and it was perfect! For me FB worthy, but it would last me years and years because of the little amount you need and it has to fit both occasion and mood. I will use my tester sparingly.

Lovers of Frederic Malle's POAL will go crazy over this. I was so lucky to find this original version in the dark bottle and for half the price of the current one. Gothic and vampiric to the core. A red, bitter but luscious rose with black currant. It's like a deep, dark rose with blood dripping down...All of this surrounded by incense and earthy patchouli which gives a woody and earthy character (not oud). Reine de Nuit...Indeed. What an apt name for this haunting beauty. I LOVE THIS!!!!! (PS: I first tested the 2019 version and immediately fell in love. The smell is identical, and if I hadn't come across this one by chance, I would have bought it.)

If you are a fan of Noir de Noir Tom Ford you need to run as fast as you can and pick up the fragrance. I had tested all three and this is by far the most luscious and sexy and everything you want him to be for the price tag that you paid for it . I cannot recommend this enough . if you are considering investing in one of the Night Veils collection grab this first!

oh my god, such a waste of money. it last barely 1 hour on my skin. if TF noir de noir is a oriental fragrance, this is much more occidental version of it, less dark, more floral. It is high quality scent, but performance is just bull shit.

I've been awaiting this for weeks - since I was told about their advent at Selfridges boutique, and shown the information sheets about them. Then at last, by some freak accident, a batch of them was accidentally sent from London! Yeah right! They've been known to use that story before at that place! Let them have their little jest. It's completely redundant with me anyhow. But this turns out to be about as good as I thought it would be ... which means seriously good. It delivers pretty much what I would hope for from an accord of cassis and ambrette seed, with the cool suavity of the ambrette and the smouldering sultriness of the cassis setting forth a counterpoint mediated and fixed into place by the other components. Or at least that is how I take it - to others the 'centre' of gravity' may well be at one of, or some accord of, those 'other' components. But the upshot is that this fragrance does a brooding heaviness yet shot through with the most refreshing of breezes. I can't really say 'fruity' or 'woody' or 'balsamic' or whatever - it just is what it is - a fragrance, its own fragrance: bold, and charging right in there without need to check whether there is anything it ought to be wary of . 'Airy' I think you could perhaps say, as it does 'do' 'airy', and very forwardly so - when I say "shot through with a breeze" I mean a strong breeze - one that ruffles your hair. It just oozes quality from every pore. When I first broached this I found it alarmingly similar to Jamil by SoOud - I say "alarming" because I already have Jamil and thought at first I'd done a really close duplication blunder (I bought it blind, crazy as that might seem, as in the 'accidental' delivery there were no testers ... but there probably will be soon (accidentally of course!)) ; and I have written about this on the threads. I have written about the similarity; but I have also on another thread said stuff about this that I would not say about Jamil. So in what respect are they so similar? All I can say absolutely certainly is that each strongly brings to my mind the other, illogical as that might seem. And this one does exceed Jamil in sheer quality as it ought to according to price ... and that is not just my projection of prior knowledge of price onto my impressions - it does exceed it. And Jamil is an excellent fragrance - I love wearing it. But this does have a distinctly greater 'brilliance of cut' or greater 'weight in the hand', to use figures from jewellry and goldsmithery. And when you search into your impressions of them both, the differences in detailed content quickly become evident. But they just do strongly call each other in my olfactory universe! They just do. But now, wearing this has quietened my actual dupe-alarm-panic, and I am delighted to have them together in my collection; and I am not cursing myself for not having got La Selle instead! Updating this, I see that there is rose in there, which is clearly very prominent in this fragrance: and it's not really sustainable to say that it merely has a 'fixing' or 'mediating' rôle. But I stick to it that this is essentially an ambrette-cassis counterpoint, with everything else supporting, even if the'supporting' borders on 'starring'. But I have a very particular fondness for cassis and ambrette, and their being together (in addition with the association with quality that Byredo have engendered in my mind) is largely what made this an impetarive acquisiion for me at the very first. I suppose it might be a bit like seeing what figures you wish in a constellation of stars.

Finally bit down and bought a bottle from the UK - found it for under $400, and it's increasingly hard to find. Wonder when the next extraits from Byredo will hit... The feminine hits me on the front end; almost too aggressively femme for me (cis female) but within a few minutes the middle notes assert. That's when the fun begins! After a few hours, I get leather patchouli - a mix I'd gladly climb into and float away on, my chest getting that tiny sparky happy glow that almost makes everything ok. New formulations and my dry skin don't give me the lasting power that I remember from my days wearing Opium in the 80s. Sadly, my sinuses can't take Gypsy Water or Mohave Ghost, Byredo's other marathon scents. I'm hoping that this is the exception!

Yes it is really truly lovely. It's rose and oud on me, no chemical smell, no harshness. It's not too strong and not faint either. Think Tom Ford Noir de Noir but better. Think of a sophisticated Black orchid (first formulation not the later stuff) and no chemical smell. There's no smoke or must. It's really really good! It's distinctive and classy and wonderful to wear. Having said that it's impossible to justify spending that amount of money (or anything like it) on it! The price point is utterly ridiculous.

This is simply one of the best I've ever laid my nose on. It projects perfectly for 24 hours. Yes, somewhat of a rose/Oud derivative but stands on its own against Kilian or anyone else. I love Kilian but not a one of their scents last more than 6 hours on me. Reine de nuit is one of the,longest lasting scents I've ever had the pleasure of wearing.

Very delicious balsamic spicy oud juice ... heaven!!! Sweetness enhanced with black currant making it easier to wear for both women & men. But the price's a bit stiff though ... More, it's reminding me Oud by MFK with the incense slightly more harsh...:-P

A gorgeous rose oud combination. One of the best on the market for me. Yes, there is this generic, Montale feel for a moment, but it is much more elegant and natural smelling. 9 of 10

Tried the dua dupe of Floral Night. It is the prettiest scent in my collection. Will swap generously for a bottle in US. Pleaseeee??? Or will just sell my more expensive beauties.

I found my new, unopened bottle at a store in the UAE, there are a couple other stores that have bottles in stock. They’re expensive, but worth it!

A little too late to the Oud, Saffron and Rose party. Nice scent. By Kilian has this genre cornered....
