(Skip if not interested into seriously reviewing. Long writing. Thankyouverymuch) Anais is Syncrétisme. The practice of combining different beliefs and various schools of thought. Syncretism involves the merging or assimilation of several originally discrete traditions, especially in the theology and mythology of religion, thus asserting an underlying unity and allowing for an inclusive approach to other faiths. While syncretism in art and culture is sometimes likened to eclecticism, in the realm of religion, it specifically denotes a more integrated merging of beliefs into a unified system, distinct from eclecticism, which implies a selective adoption of elements from different traditions without necessarily blending them into a new, cohesive belief system. Did perfumers know that? I don't know. Anais was launched in 1978. In but more normal timing... Anais Anais was created by Roger Pellegrino, Robert Gonnon, Paul Leger and Raymond Chaillan. It would be interesting to know how they invented this great perfume. The ideas. The cooperation. Is there any book about perfumery art dealing with these questions? No. Tells a lot about this crippling dying civilisation. That has no respect for art. It has respect for trash. The art world is filled with worthless, empty blah blah, so-called art. The perfumery world is full of clones and senseless, characterless so-called perfumes. Hardly anything is to talk about them. That's not the case when it comes to Chacharel scents. Well... That doesn't go for all. Goes for Anais. Definitely. Anais is a timeless historical time-splitting perfume. It's the perfume that, in its composition, captured the split in the female natural existence, body and spiritual level. Every girl asks herself at one point in her life "Am I a woman now?" Every girl thinks of that. If not otherwise, then when pubic hair comes, your period comes, you suddenly need a bra. That's the breaking point. First one. The initiation is the next one. When you become a mother. That goes for, let's say, normal females. Because we have the born priestesses. Witches. And that you can only be born as one. Passing on from mother's side. Anais is the echo of the spiritual transitions. Pré bodily and prey spiritual girls can't wear it. It's pretty simple. Lily doesn't allow them. Only when you pass the Lily test you have a chance. Anais is a bottled goddess. Testing your wisdom. Challenging your waters. It's the epitome of the feminine fragrance. Not unisex, whatever that means. Whoever wants her husband to smell of Samsara. Probably ones convinced that everyone can wear everything... Because they make money. All over your immature spiritual state and cracks of insecurities. Well... Illusions are flexible and change when merchants' tribe needs them. Your existence doesn't. So go ahead. Offer Anais scent to pre-period girls. Or to a female in her menopausal process. They won't like it... It's the law of nature. Because perfumery is human composing symphonies to flatter the existence. Remember the commercial for Anais? One of the last seriously fitting approaches and commercials, " beauties in soft focus showing no inch of skin beyond their necks set to pre-classical music? And yet Anais Anais, the first perfume by Cacharel (1978), was advertised exactly like that and became the reference scent for the early 1980s for droves of young women who still reminiscence fondly of it 30 years later. It's also one of the most influential perfumes in history. " (perfumeshrine) What I love is that Anais is ANTI feminist fragrance. To the core." The goddess was a testament to a peculiar cultural phenomenon on what concerned the position of women in the zeitgeist: On the one hand, Anais Anais with its imagery disrupted the context of feminism in perfume; the complete antithesis of Charlie by Revlon (1973), if you will, where Shelley Hack was dressed in pants skipping off to work or grabbing the bum of a cute guy in the street as an outward manifestation of her desire to be divested of her traditional passive role. These were both youthful fragrances advertised to the young." (perfume shrine) And I am even more happy when someone notices that. In general, Chacharel has a red line when it comes to its perfumes. That's rare in the perfumery world and even more rare to keep it. Chacharel is probably the only one still keeping their red line. Let's call it, perfumery style. I very much dislike the armpit" roll-on" bottle. And I am devastated by that. I love that long vase-like one with a blossom cover. Let's go into composition. Indeed very interesting... The top notes are White Lily. It opens with subtle nuances, smelling at once waxy, slightly green-tinged, and spicy. It also often carries an earthy-honeyed aspect, which, to me, evokes the pollen stems these flowers have in nature. White lilies symbolise purity and rebirth Often chosen for both weddings and funerals, white lilies symbolise a rejuvenation of the soul. This meaning represents purity, commitment and rebirth, which is why they're often chosen as Sympathy Flowers. It's a smell that challenges right there. At the first smell. The second smell is aldehydes in green aspects. This first lily stays. Till the end. Like "one me, being reborn into other me," in the Middle notes. Pardon. This is total mastery. Of course, the top notes get more complicated with Hyacinthe, again a very, very delicate-smelling flower. It can literally heal or give a headache. The hyacinth's name comes from an ancient tale of love and sorrow, and each colour of its blossoms conveys a different sentiment. Whether it's the playful joy symbolized by pink hyacinths or deep regret represented by purple ones, this flower has been used for centuries to communicate emotions. It's narcotic, green, fresh linalool, balsam, spice, metallic rose. Connected to Iran and the Anais goddess btw. The perfumery noses behind Anais decided to soften both of the first flowers. With Honeysuckle smelling heady and nectarous, a little like jasmine tinged with vanilla. Smelling even in the night. Like just blossoming a young woman who seeks the attention of the opposite sex. Not over yet. Galbanum, again Iran and goddess Anais, is a natural resin that gives a natural green effect. The scent is very green and quite sharp — green peppers, cut grass — and becomes balsamic in the dry down. With Orange Blossom, Lavender, Bergamot, Black Currant and Lemon. Giving a softer, very, very delicate opening. This is so beautiful again. Very very fitting to the Chacharel red line. Of course, perfume was reformulated at least 2 times. The striking magic is gone, but not to the level of giving up Anais. The middle notes tell you that Lily, the reborn one, is here to stay. The only difference is she will use the witch's poisonous magic of the Lily-of-the-Valley and the masculine power of eroticism of Moroccan Jasmine to seduce you. To test her new "body." Carnation will keep the violators away and Honeysuckle will enhance the seductive through the night. Amazing play! Feminine play. A bit naive. Very brave. With that eternal seductive queen Tuberose, breaking the point of letting you touch her odored into Ylang-Ylang, Iris, Rose and Orris Root powder! That's what Anais is... And if you think it's just that? It's not. Then she leads you into the forest. To lie down with her into, not on, but into Base Notes! Oakmoss, Incense, Musk, Leather, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Cedar, Patchouli and Amber... Clumsy and inexperienced, she follows the rules of nature. Seducing with early poison as every serious female fragrance should. Breaking the point of water between her legs. Will she take you as an observer and him as a pollinator, depending on the will of Anais? The goddess. (The bottle. I hate. Please, Chacharel, do something about it. It's a ridicule to this great composition. It's like an armpit roll-on. The version in the shape of the vase with the flower cover collection Fleur. Eau de Toilette is DIVINE. I love! Bring it back Chacharel! Bring back the soaps also. The scarf is beautiful! Also, the green bottle with flower as a cover I love. 75ml Eau de Toilette. It's so nice! Fits. Also, the white, thick milk-rounded bottle is nice. The same version in Opac is nice. The 7.5 ml I mean. It's very nice. Even flacons in different sizes are nice. Very Cacharel! Except for one selling now! The worst and most ugly. In general, totally ugly and not fitting.)

This perfume is completely different from any other in the world, in my experience. I've worn several fragrances (mostly green scents like Chanel Cristalle) through the years, and I adore several other fragrances (mostly soft spices like Obsession) that smell fabulous on other women but, alas, not on me. For the past 20 years I've also owned a studio that is almost exclusively patronized by women, so I've been exposed to lots and lots of various perfumes of every type, all day every day. My sister has always called me "The Nose" because of my ability -- for good or bad -- to discern scents that most other people aren't immediately aware of. I'm the person who sometimes has to get up and change seats at a show because the person in front of me is wearing Poison, the person beside me is eating Juicy Grape bubblegum, the person on the other side of me just took his coat out of mothballs, and the person behind me is in the midst of slathering on Jungle Gardenia hand lotion. It's a curse. All of that is just a lead in for one of the things that I like about Anais Anais: it is a very private sort of scent. I have never smelled it in a cloud around anyone else, and my husband tells me that, although he can clearly detect it on my neck and wrist, he could never locate me in a room (even a small one!) purely by following a trail of fragrance. This makes me happy. The other thing that makes me happy about Anais Anais is that, unlike so many other brash, sharp, single-edged fragrances out there, it is complex and subtle and DELICIOUS . . . at least on me. I truly think, like so many others have reported in this thread, that it's a body chemistry thing. Things that smell lovely on other women tend to take on a life of their own on my skin; every time I think I might just sample a different perfume in a store, within 30 minutes I am looking for the nearest place to wash it off, because the fragrance will grow to the point of making me ill before long. Anais, on the other hand, steps back into the shadows, lying low until hours later, when I lean on my hand while reading or working, for instance, and the warmth between hand & neck will release it again . . . and it will have changed into something that makes me want to just continue breathing it in. On me it is extremely lush & soft, not powdery or soapy or any of the other things others have reported. I get orange blossom most of all, but also fresh green (cedary -- like Christmas trees) & citrus scents as well as elements that remind me of vanilla or leather or pipe tobacco (even though most of those things aren't really in there). It's not an old lady's powdery scent at all or a young girl's wispy, wimpy floral -- it's a grown-up fragrance for someone who doesn't follow every trend, who looks for depth & substance, and who'd always rather speak than shriek. For a long time now, it's the only perfume I wear, and I wear it every day. It never gets old, because it is so multi-faceted. I was really & truly distressed when it appeared that it was going to be discontinued a year or so ago, and I bought every bottle I could lay my hands on. I'm cautiously relieved to see that it's been re-released in a slightly different packaging -- we'll hope that they haven't changed it so much that it wears differently on me. I hope they never do!

When I started to re-ignite my interest into perfumery a few years ago, I wrote a lengthy review on the reformulated version L‘Originale, which I felt was super prim-and-proper, very white and very beautiful. Over the time, however, I fell a little bit out of love with it because, while I continuously liked the heavy white florals and the powdery, almost talcum notes, some of them felt screechy. Not overall bad, but I just did not like it not well enough anymore to want a full bottle. However, when recently I had the opportunity to obtain an unopened bottle of the vintage version for a good price, I went for it on a whim and I do not regret it. While today I will not be getting into the deep details, two differences struck me as significant. 1.) The reformulation certainly made me feel super innocent and pretty, but the vintage version transported me right back to my childhood. To the locker room at the local- at the time very new and nice - public swimming pool, where this fragrance was omnipresent. It smells lotion-ey, white, a bit like then equally ubiquitous jojoba-oil hair treatments. Not as almost-fundamentalist-pure as the reformulation, but more like the innocence of young mums accompanying their small children to a fun activity. While the reformulation reminds me of a somewhat expensive, clean, freshly-washed very frilly, very white blouse, the vintage version smells like well-groomed nudity. Not mainly sexual, but not asexual as well. 2.) The drydowns are fairly different. While the reformulation in its final stage transitions into clean talcum notes, the vintage one has more of a softcore animalistic smell that very strongly reminded me of the final stage of Malle‘s Lipstick Rose. Now I am not the biggest fan of animal smells and the drydown is by far the least favorite stage of Lipstick Rose for me. Just from the notes alone, the reformulation would be a clear winner for me. I like powdery and cool scents. However, with the vintage drydown, the transition feels incredibly much smoother. It carries a bit of an association with the end of a hot summer day: ergo, it has it becomes a bit sweaty, a bit dirty, which I also do not need per se, however, as it makes sense in the whole composition and is not too obnoxious, I can appreciate it. There are other points of comparison that merit a mention: for instance, the longevity and the sillage, which are equally strong with both versions, or the target group, which makes me think that the vintage version leans even a bit more towards the unisex direction than the L’ Originale. To sum things up, Anaïs Anaïs deserves to be enjoyed in both versions, the vintage and the new. If you want that prim-middle-class-young-girl-of-the-1980s-vibe, go for the reformulation, if you need to evoke specific memories, the vintage version will be for you. Overall, I think that the vintage version is better crafted in the drydown, although the reformulation caters more to my taste strictly fragrance-wise. I can certainly recommend both variations of this scent and probably now will have to get a bottle of the reformulation as well.

I'm 65 (OMG, how'd that happen). Parfum has been on my radar for decades, through the highs, lows, screeching, and nouveau riche. I've spent a fortune on it, and that was my choice. Never be sorry for being "young and dumb". Each parfum (EDP)(EDT) will be like a new friend to enjoy. Some will turn against your skin, they were flankers anyway. 🤌 The future holds joy and laughter. Live it and don't look back. "Shake It Off." Tip: Keeping your body hydrated helps any composition of scents last longer. If your scent starts to lose potency, I suggest getting well-hydrated (keep drinking your water) so the scent will last longer.👍 🥉Eau de Cologne (EC) is very light. 🥈Eau de Toilette (EDT) is slightly more concentrated. 🥇Eau de Parfum (EDP) is concentrated in raw materials and more intense than the EDT; It will stick to your skin for about 8 hours of the day, "so the experts say," dependent upon your body chemistry. I stick with the Parfum. Sillage & longevity are 7+ for my body chemistry. I get the Hyacinth, Moroccan Jasmine, Carnation, and Honeysuckle. I get the middle note Orris Root and NOT the Rose. YAY! I get base notes: Incense, Musk, Sandalwood, Vetiver, and Amber. No cedar or Patchouli. YAY! The notes play well together. 😉 This should not be described as a "grandma-ish" or "old lady" scent. Roll with the times, it just wasn't for you. I don't get any honey or rose, which is fine for me, not my favs. I do get the orange blossom, mandarin orange, gardenia & vetiver. All notes play together extremely well. No one note jumps out for me. It is not cloying. I consider it office-friendly. I can't imagine this lovely "whisper" composition offended anyone. I like to layer this with 1 or 2 drops of white musk on my skin if I go out on the town at night. A little dab will certainly do ya.😉 The longevity on me is 7+ hours, though the sillage is faint. MAYBE I want someone to come back to me.😂 It's a lovely composition for me, from 1st spritz to the dry down (no powder, YAY). It lasts forever on clothing. It can be sunshine, flirty floral & delicate. It can also be sensual & alluring thanks to just enough vetiver to bring it all together nicely. BRAVO!🍃Don't worry about allergies and other medical problems: perfumes are widely made of alcohol that acts as an antiseptic.👌 The perfume (also called extract, pure perfume, or perfume essence) is even more powerful. A few drops are enough for a whole day of smelling wonderful, "so they say."

Anaïs Anaïs was worn by my mom in her youth - her first gift from my dad apparently, so it is close to my heart. I have a bottle of the current version, marked "L'Original", but recently acquired a vintage miniature of this, the true original. I've compared the two versions, and while the new one isn't a bad recreation of the beloved original Anaïs Anaïs, it is a simpler, sweeter, less nuanced version that runs out of steam at the drydown. I still like it, it does the job and evokes memories, but this 1970s original is superior. AA opens with bold, waxy hyacinth - a note that evokes childhood memories, as we had hyacinths in the garden at home. A bold, funereal lily note rounds it out, alongside soapy, green lily-of-the-valley. Hazy green galbanum adds a beautiful vintage-style greenness to the background - notably absent in the reformulation - while honeysuckle adds a sweet, polleny edge. It is more complex and less soapy up top than the new version. As it develops, a powdery bouquet emerges, mostly made up of white florals. Bold and lush, it sweetly innocent rather than carnal. Muted tuberose, clean jasmine and the muguet of the opening are most evident. Rose and iris follow, enhancing the powder while adding interest to the white florals. The drydown is much better here than in the reformulation. A soft but nicely-formed chypre base emerges, led by a hint of delicious vintage-style oakmoss. Woody notes are also evident, alongside a musky, slightly animalic amber accord. A pinch of patchouli adds earthiness. The powdery florals remain centre-stage, enhanced beautifully by the chypre base. This stands in stark contrast to the thin, aquatic, soapy drydown of L'Original that just tapers off. Here, it fades to a musky, earthy skin scent with a hint of powdery florals. Sillage and longevity are moderate. A true classic, AA is a beauty that evokes memories for many, myself included. The reformulation is passable, but it fades in comparison to the true 1970s original. A classic feminine springtime scent, I'm glad I got a chance to smell the original again. A personal favourite, I will always have a soft spot for AA thanks to my mom. 5/5.

Absolutely amazing. I love what i call 'wedding day frangrances' that smell like yankee candle wedding day. white floral, hope, exhilaration. This is one of those large bouquet white floral fragrances. to me it smells mainly of peony and ylang lang, with lilies, lily of the valley and aldehydes. there is a freshness even though no green notes. its floral and exhilerating and very very feminine. i could not smell any roses. it is the perfect wedding day fragrance. i compared it with houbigant quelques fleurs and Estee Lauder Beuatiful which are also the same 'large big biuquet white flowers wedding day ' scents. Houbigant is much more complex, it is described as a thousand flowers bouquet. The com[plexity and subtle notes create the impression of a more expensive fragrance for sure, and the civet animalic vintage sour note also makes it feel very much like a vintage 1970s perfume. Anais is like the younger sister of Quelques Fleurs, the 199os version. simpler, fresher, more aldehyde, less cat wee. Estee Lauder Beautiful is also a very grand white flowers bouquet and I do love it. It has a six page long reciepie and a load of research. The opening is greener and the dry down has a much more honeyed smell. lots of white flowers, but also a very noticable honeysuckle, honey, vanailla, tonka bean, amber, overall warmth to the fragrance. Whereas Anais is simpler and in place of all the honeyed wamth, it has exhilerating aldehydes, bergamot and lemon giving a fresh crisp feeling. for me, personally I would like Anais to have more green notes and less lilies.

Anais Anais...even the name sounds like a caress. It is a layered floral intoxication like none other that I've experienced. Soft and gentle, a hand grazing a cheek, and assertively strong, like a brazen woman kissing first. For me, it is the scent equivalent to Vivaldi or Mozart. And for that reason, it becomes a virtual guessing game as to what is that note? Waves of floral euphony playfully linger, while deeper, spicy and woodsy threads resonate. This perfume had four noses behind its development in the 70s, and when you allow a moment to exhale with this perfume's complexity, you'll understand why there had to be so many. Defining its intricate nature, would be to pull strands out of an orchestra and then expect the experience to remain. I've read a lot of other reviews, and they discussed about the same things. Where they first smelled or wore this perfume. The events of their awakening, possibly emotions attached to the encounter. It is that memorable, and I personally can't blame them. It is a sweet and spicy, utterly iconic transformation. For me, it has been a love affair from the start, and remains one today.

In spite of its image of flower-patterned pinafore naïveté, Anaïs Anaïs, underneath its Victorian sharp green and powdered ruffles, isn't really a petticoat prissiness after all. Those of a masculine persuasion may initially scoff at its prim opening, all tra-la-la and tiptoes through the tulips, all rosy-cheeked, but once we reach the corner of the cottage garden where the heaving madonna lilies and sultry trumpet lilies bloom, all sweaty and exposed, we realize, "hmm...we smells hyacinths here, but this is no Hyacinth Bucket." While the flowers are the centerpiece here, there is something to be said for the later stages of development, all woody, mossy, and even musky, seeming to include some Tonkin musk style bases, rendering the innocent knickers not so immaculate after all. I appreciate another reviewer's comparison to Kouros in some aspects. It also dares to straddle two styles: while Kouros pairs fougere with sensuous amber and dirty musks, Anaïs Anaïs juxtaposes the genteel floral with its own lustful understory. Enough with the ukelele strumming, cue Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff."

Spring comes early this year - since it has not really been any winter at all. So when the sun is shining today, I put Anais Anais on my wrists. These lovely memories... I can never be without this one. It was my very first real perfume, back in 1979, when it was almost new. I guess now that some would call me ”old lady”, but I assure you, that I am young at heart. And so is this lovely perfume. So romantic, so soft but strong - like beeing in the woods with all the pine trees and ”christmas trees” ( don’t know the correct name in english of those?? 🧐😏) , fire burning in the stove in grandma’s kitchen with smoke from the chimney, daddy picking wild strawberries for me to eat, all of them - I was not even two years old. This is what this smells like, and that is why I could not believe my senses when I got to try this at the perfume desk, when I was 18, going on 19. I bought it right away, so happy that I had earned my own money lately. And it has been with me ever since, through it all.

Today a micro mini of AA arrived, and the scent brought me back to the late 70's, maybe very early 80's. My mother and sister are in the kitchen, discussing this new perfume, and the fragrance of Anais Anais fills the air. The scent hasn't changed much, at least to my nose. It's very floral, but not sweet. It reminds me of cyclamen flowers, maybe a tiny bit of lily of the valley. I don't get powder or the spicy fragrance of carnations. It's a cool scent, not at all opulent, thankfully not sweet. It's well blended and carefully crafted. Nothing about AA shouts or overwhelms. Compared with modern perfumes this vintage seems demure. Some call AA dated, but I don't agree. It is an older scent and thus very unlike the perfumes marketed to younger consumers. None of this makes Anais Anais bad. It's just very different from run-of-the-mill celeb frags and sticky gourmands. I'm glad to have it again.

Lo usava mia mamma alla fine degli anni 70 e inizi 80... la mia infanzia.. Lo andavo ad annusare dalla boccia bianca col tappo argento che era enorme.. E' capitato che lo indossassi quando ero grandicello e mi piaceva. Naturalmente i profumi si adattano a chi li indossa e si fondono con la sua persona intera (o meglio, lo facevano fino a quando erano profumi naturali. Ora sono chimici e restano uguali su tutti, frutta e vaniglia fino a vomitare). Ancora adesso dopo più di 40 anni lo amo nella sua versione anni 80. Un profumo che non sa di ingenuo ne di bambina ma un profumo molto intenso,quasi spirituale. Le sue note di incenso,cuoio,fiori bianchi tipo gigli e muschi,una base amara di vetiver,legni,crea una speciale atmosfera che si adatta al motociclista in pelle nera e alla mamma che porta la figlia al parco. Un profumo meraviglioso

This review is based on the EDT from the 80s. I loved this so much and went through several bottles in my 20s and 30s! White florals are good on me. However, the EDT didn't last very long on my dry, perfume eating skin. But while it lasted, maybe a couple of hours, it was pretty strong! But I don't think I'll ever buy it again. It reminds me too much of a certain time in my life. A time that had its good points, and its bad points, but it's over and will never come again. And that's OK; I've moved on. Would I recommend it? Yes, for daytime or nighttime wear in the spring and summer. But if you sit close to other people in an office, or you carpool or ride mass transit, I'd use it in moderation. It's a strong, heady floral, and not everybody likes florals.

This was my mother’s favorite perfume when she was in her mid-20s. The combined scents of this perfume and Secret Powder Fresh Deodorant take me back to my early childhood. A simpler time, before endless adult problems...anyway, this is my second favorite perfume after Cool Water. When I was in my early 20s, I found it a discount perfume kiosk in the mall and the rest is history. I can see why a lot of parents picked this as their daughters’ first perfume; it’s feminine without being too vampy or “grown”. It’s a very mild, pleasant scent to me- powdery and floral without being too overwhelming. As versatile as it is, I pretty much only wear it for special occasions or if I need a lift in spirits because it’s so hard to find.

Questo ricco ed elaborato profumo, nelle sue edizioni anni 78, 80,90 fino al 2000,era una fragranza amata e frequente. Non ci ho mai sentito niente di ingenuo,di candido e di delicato ma uno splendido calore, profondo,intenso, che ricorda un enorme mazzo di fiori bianchi e foglie verdi che ornano un altare magico,stregonesco,circondati da nuvole di incenso,dal buio della notte e dalla timida luce lunare. Se non fosse per la pubblicità indirizzata ad un pubblico femminile, Anai anais sarebbe un profumo stupendo su un uomo,fine, elegante e anche molto sensuale,decisamente diverso e lontano dall'idea di profumo da uomo sexy di oggi. Dopo gli anni 2000 è stato decisamente rovinato,non vale la pena comprarlo.

The original/cloudy cap version of this is stronger (and IMO better) than the l'original EDT, not only does it smell stronger and lasts longer both on skin and clothing, but it also smells a bit more heady and floral, the l'original is softer. I don't get any animalic notes?? But i do get a lot of the rose, incense, and a bit of the lily and oakmoss, i also def get the sandalwood and jasmine, and also even if it's not a declared note, I get a very clear almond/nutty scent in the opening/when you first spray it, it's not as noticeable in the edt but it is in this one! Overall I prefer this over the l'original if you can get your hands on this cloudy cap version :D

I reckon people naturally try to look for good where it hardly exists and tend to over-scrutinise / criticize that which is near-perfect. Seems like a balancing act if you understand what I mean. As for me, all versions of Anais Anais are my favourite from vintage till the new generation scents. I have still preserved the first empty opal bottle, and the bottle too smells like a fairytale garden. It is a perfectly blended white and green floral scent with undertones of oakmoss giving it a soapy clean vibe. The floral notes of iris and hyacinth render it a sky blue - lilac - light pink themed fairytale dreaminess that I love. Romance in a bottle for me.

I bought this for nostalgia purposes because my mom used to wear it when I was little. On first spritz, I was surprised I wasn’t immediately transported back to the early 80’s. The original version is still there but I actually like the modern version better. The 80’s Anais was very harsh and screechy in its opening. Think green flower stems and bitter florals. The modern version is a hair softer and I get a lot more of the powder and spice on the background. It’s fresh and clean and would be great for day and work use as long as you didn’t go overboard. I bought this originally just to have but I already know I’m going to use this up.

Lo usava mia mamma alla fine degli anni 70, io lo annusavo dalla bottiglia e mi affascinava gia allora che ero un bambino. Non lo ho mai sentito come un profumino ingenuo e candido per vergini candide, ma come un profumo ricco, terroso in certi momenti,molto pieno di fiori, con un sottofondo caldo e incensato. Lo ho usato che io e ho riscosso riscontri piacevoli,ne ho ancora alcune bottiglie vintage degli anni 70 e 80, ovviamente molto diverso da quello che si trova oggi nei negozi, come per tutti ha subìto varie riformulazioni e deformazioni sintetiche che lo hanno abbastanza distrutto,ma il vecchio è sempre un piacere da indossare.

Cacharel is a french luxury clothing & accessories brand that has existed since 1958! Anais Anais was their first perfume created by a team of parfumeurs: Roger Pellegrino, Robert Gonnon, Paul Leger and Raymond Chaillan. It is certainly Not a dupe of anything,an original,one of a kind when it was released for sale in 1978! This was the scent of my youth in the 80s! I still reach for it now & again,reminds me of summers past & falling in love!

My twin sister received this perfume when we were both about 13. I had asked for a bottle of Coriandre, and my sister received Anais Anais. I loved it right away. At the time, i wasn't big into florals, so I was surprised how much I adored the richness of the floral blend in Anais. I remember being gutted when I learned that it'd been reformulated; and I agree with earlier posters that L'Original isn't quite the same as the original Anais Anais. Still, I love the perfume, and will continue to purchase it as long as it's available.

I decided to buy a vintage bottle from 2006 (Shocking that's practically vintage now) and one from the 80s off ebay sealed. Truthfully, I smell very little difference to the modern blend in the perfume until drydown. L'original - A cleaner, sweeter, more powdery drydown. OG formula - Earthy/muddier, bitter , more smokey drydown. Fittingly, Original formula smells more mature, but L'original feels like the easier wear. Original formula to be taken seriously, L'original to smell kind and approachable.

To me this is one of the prettiest vintage scents out there. Just a beautiful bouquet of spring flowers, this is definitely dated but that doesn't make it any less beautiful. I'm 27 now and first tried this perfume when I was 23, yet it somehow brings me back to my childhood. The hyacinth is strong and brings back memories of Easter and early spring. It's heavenly and pastoral and nostalgic. It's the perfect perfume for when you're feeling down or sad and want to be reminded of happier times.

Especially to WoolyWorm, but also to everyone else who try the current version of the former beautiful Anais Anais: I just want to tell you, that you are absolutely right. It is cold, sharp, strong and screechy. Once I was a young girl of 18 years old. And this was the most beautiful fragrance I had ever smelled, or felt. It suited my young personality perfectly. It had a sweetness of wild strawberries, that isn't there now at all. It was delightful. And I am devistated that it is now gone.

I went through a few bottles of Anais Anais over the years and I miss it. It was the antithesis of my spicy signature scents and I loved wearing it occasionally. I recently purchased a bottle of Le Original thinking that it was the original and alas it is not. Not even close. The real original was complex and beautiful and unlike anything I had every experienced. The current version is heavy hyacinth to me-so floral with no longevity (thankfully) drying down to a baby wipe smell. So sad.

People, if you smelt Anais Anais only from the bottle or on a sheet of paper, please, don't write a review of It. You would risk to offend and unnecessarily outrage this creation without having understood its greatness, unjustly ruin the reputation. This fragrance has many levels of complexity, wear It on your skin and smell It from the beginning to the end, and then you can write of It honestly, whether you like it or not.

This is a very hyacinth-forward fragrance, which I think is great because I love the smell of that flower so much. Anais Anais is a heady floral delight, quite powdery, somewhere between "feminine" and "womanly", with a surprisingly earthy, sensual drydown. Longevity is excellent, sillage is good, although I feel one could wear this perfume to work with a very light application.

I don't understand the hate. It's a clear, crisp and at the same time, quite loud and cloying floral bomb. It's quite relevant to its times, and people who complain it smells "old"...go smell L'heure bleue (which I love btw) To me Anais is a nice, straightforward, optimistic scent. And I'd rather have this than modern Lady millions or La vie est belles anytime.

This is a calming, nostalgic scent for me. I think this is my grandmothers perfume. She was a happy spirit. But the scent for me is also youthful, I think of her being happy, warm and strong. Not of her being very old. This kind of scent could come back as a scent for a younger generation very soon, the same way fashion in clothes comes back around.

I've had my bottle for about 11 years, always loved how airy, carefree, bright it was. White floral with some powder and soap, now it has a little sour tinge to it as the soap seems more prominent, leaning close to Arpege. It also gives me the same feel as L'Air du temps, a young spring scent for a white lace dress. Classical pure floral beauty.

The ultimate 70s bright floral: optimistic, ethereal, stemmy green and gorgeous. Different than what is generally scented while out and about; I love the unusual character of this one among so many gourmands and florientals in a crowd. This one is a linen sundress and straw hat with a ribbon in the height of summer heat.

My mother used to wear it when I was a toddler, it was a hit at the time, and I loved it. It was so fresh, airy, flowery, perfect for the delicate beauty my mom was in her early 30s. Too bad now it's cheaply reformulated, impossible for me to wear. Narciso Rodriguez Poudree is very similar, but heavier, less ironic.

Peppery lilies, a twist of lemony French cologne, green flower stems in an English floral marquee, a soft worn leather jacket , a promise of spring but it's still snowing, a faint trail of smokey incense and sadness. I love this and am baffled at the "old lady" comments. Some of the most interesting ladies are old.

Oh, beautiful hyacinth. One of the most dynamic woman I have ever known wore this through out the ‘80s. She was a hard core business woman, her daughter my life long dearest friend. I loved the juxtaposition of a fierce woman wearing such a lovely, lady like scent. I adore this pure delight of a fragrance.

This was the first perfume i ever got. It was a gift from my mother for my tenth birthday because this is also the perfume she wore when she was younger. I absolutely love this sent altho i dont wear it anymore. Whenever i smell it i am reminded of simpler times so i cant help but love it.

I bought this little bottle of Anais Anais when I saw it at TJ Maxx. I had read that it is a dupe of Spring Rain by Crabtree & Evelyn. It is so close! I am not disappointed at all! I didn’t want to use up the last of my Spring Rain so now I can wear this and be happy!

My first I wore it all through the 80s. I would never buy a perfume like this nowadays was so many florals, but am dying to have one more bottle on my shelf. When I was 13, I wanted to smell like an old French lady. With red lipstick. And this got me halfway there.

This should be called "If heaven had a smell" It is my mom in a bottle and my first ever memory of fragrance. It reminds me of baby dolls, Sunday brunches , lush lilies, pink powder blush & more than anything nuzzling my mom's neck. <3

Somehow it reminds me Pierre Cardin "Paradox". Dusty white flowers together with the leather scent, which is quite present in both scents. I loved original Anais Anais, but after reformulation it has become Mehhh..they did spoil it.

Masterpiece! This lovely eau de toilette was one of my mother's favorite perfumes. A magnificent, elegant, feminine floral. It evokes so many memories. I have a vintage bottle that I wear with immense caution. I will always love it.

An everlasting, innocent, so-feminine favourite of mine since my teen years. Unfortunately, no one else I have known, male or female, has shared my strong fondness for it, so I just wear it to please myself.

Lovely powdery subtle scent. quite soapy, and "old fashioned" but in a really beautiful way. green scent but in a feminine way. smells like how satin feels, after a nice bubble bath all squeaky clean .

I love this and always get compliments on it! It smells like flowers, upon flowers mixed with powder and a musky but not too strong dry down. This is one that will stay in my collection forever.
