Defy Eau de Parfum

EDIT: Some more things to add, the drydown is very similar to K EDP by Dolce & Gabbana, a fragrance that I am not a fan of, because it is too bitter. However, Defy gets a pass- and is 100% more palatable in my opinion. My take is that Defy is the sweet younger sister of K, whereas K is the macho older bro. Defy is not a projection monster, but it does good. And enjoy that mandarin top note while it lasts- it is absolutely the icing on the cake for this fragrance! After that, there is a huge K-reminiscent drydown, only better in my opinion. I'll lower it to an 8.3 for factoring in a huge similarity to K EDP, since the drydown isn't as unique as it could be. Defy EDP is still a great pickup at a rackstore- wholly recommended! Holy hell I love Defy EDP so much. My first buy was a 1.6 oz for $30 bucks at Ross. For that price, I thought it was a great deal. I ended up buying another bottle as a backup (thinking that it was 1.6 oz), but that bottle was $40- and as it turned out- twice the size (what a treat!). If you see it, BUY IT at a discounter while you still can. 3.3 oz for $40 bucks is a great target price. As much as I love this fragrance, I still recommend that you test it in Sephora (@ Kohls) first, because it might not be for everybody (I am a 20/yo male, it suits my age well). I first noticed Calvin Klein Defy EDP as I was casually fragrance testing in Sephora. This is where it first caught my attention- as a sampler on display. And it was love at first smell. The leather note is prominent, but not overwhelming. It is blended very finely, especially the leather and vetiver. Take all of the notes listed for this fragrance, and blend them so that none of them smell like their individual parts; but each combine to create a sensual, alluring fragrance that is unforgettable. Some fragrances overdo it with top notes, or have distinctive elements that stick out too much (I'm looking at you, Cool Water- even though that drydown is what makes it). Defy EDP doesn't smell overly sharply of mandarin at all, and isn't overly spiced with pepper. It is just right, with a beautiful opening. One con with the fragrance is that, perhaps, I can see where the previous commenter compared it to a body spray. It does have that "generic" vibe to it.. but I love it so much, even so. Imagine walking into a mall, perhaps a clothing outlet. This fragrance might evoke those memories. Then again, the "outlet store"-esque scent probably has something to do with the fact that the mid notes (leather and suede) are both used for certain articles of clothing. If you are afraid of blind-buying this fragrance, remember that it is relatively easy to find (heavily discounted) at rack stores, and just check in with their return policies before you buy it. Quality assured. The longevity isn't perfect. The performance is fine, it gets the job done. But this is Calvin Klein we are talking about. I am partial to the house; i've smelled CK fragrances and consider them "hit or miss". Yet I love Defy EDP, and I wouldn't hesitate to call it a signature scent. 3.3 oz for $40 dollars? Best bang for my buck in the collection. Highly recommended. 9/10.

I grabbed this at Burlington for $35 cause it has been a few weeks since stopping at a rack store. I already really liked K EDP since it is different and easy to wear, versatile, signature worthy imo. I feel this is the Farenheit Aqua version of 2022. CK did a great job mainstreaming a blue frag, EDP, unique with the earthiness mixed with sweetness, anyone can pull it off, easy grab and go leather frag....I am glad to have it. It's 4-6 hours, never goes beyond 2-3 feet, but leaves a nice little trail later into the day. Good job by CK doing there own thing, not just go in the same direction of everyone else...I can't wear leather frags, not a fan personally of ombre leather etc......I like Leather/Suade in light sweet frags at times, but this is a great Gucci Guilty Green style scent that just works......I don't see how it is possible K and DEFY are not hyped online like other reduntant new relases and remixes. K EDP for $35 is a quality buy for anyone who wants a mass pleasing easy to wear blue leather, earthy, but sweet the right amount...If you like any of the King line, EDP best imo and this is a must have to have in the rotation. It's different enough to the average 90% of people.

I just acquired a couple of Leather frags and just open and wore it today. I can relate to why it is so nice smelling mass Appealing but in a different direction compared to the usual suspects from chanel and Dior. This is like a sweeter more mass Appealing Gucci Guilty Absolute. Note are pretty simple but I do not know why it's also kinda similar the opening and sweetness of Armani's Stronger With You Leather. Both I have too and I'll need to go back nose all 3 and compare closer side by side. Really lovely scent to wear.

I just had this amazing scent and funnily i found out that the dry down is pretty similar to Nautica Voyage's dry down except it's much stronger, darker and a bit powdery. They smell similar but obviously have two direction: oceanic vs leathery. Definitely reminds me of Tom Ford Ombre Leather. CK's fragrances are always cheap but this one is, you can say classy. Putting the fact that they made an expensive commercial video staring the dead Stark(the bodyguard guy).

Defy EDP is really good; certainly, it's much better than its current Perfume Rating in the mid 3's, and don't let the deservedly poor reviews of Defy EDT dissuade you from sampling this EDP. IMO, a very pleasant spicy-leather scent that leans citrus fresh. Performance is very good. The more I sniff, the more I like. I'm seeing 10 ml spray bottles for $19, so the price is reasonable. UPDATE: Just had my offer accepted for a 100 ml bottle, $50!

For a Calvin Klein frag, this is amazing. Starts off with the mandarin orange and black pepper which is smooth and transitioned to the leather + vetiver + smoky. The leather is not that strong and just subtle. This great for office, casual wear and dates. The longevity is good around minimum 6 hours for a CK frag. Hats off to Calvin Klein!

I can't help it, I love this stuff. Under appreciated! To me, this is a great crisp weather to cold weather scent that has versatility with light sprays in the spring/summer. Get your nose on this and have an open mind. I expect Calvin Klein to flank this out like they always do...and I can see a lot of potential with this scent profile.

This one definitely deserves more than the current rating of 3.6. Very smoky and like how few of them rightly mentioned below, this smells money. This somehow reminds me of the smell that comes from the Boss/Mont Blanc leather wallets used by heavy smokers. A combination of leather and smoke. A very mature, wealthy kind of smell.

I'm a fan. The darker leathery dry down is superb. I actually like wearing it on a warmer day as the top notes really sing being quite citrus heavy. Definitely not a linear fragrance like other Calvin Klein offerings can be. It walks the right line between being beautifully fresh and complex later on.

Top 3 Calvin Klein fragrance. It smells way above its price point. Beautiful blue smell with a strong leather backbone. It's like a dylan blue had a baby with ombre leather Seriously good stuff. I got myself a 200ml bottle after trying it for a few times in different shops 9/10

This is flat out good. I been wearing it almost every day, every situation, Love this and K EDP....Really similar but enough of a difference with the Leather in DEFY EDP......Woman seem to like K EDP Better though when I ask everyone at work.

I don't dislike the original (edt) version, but this one is far more interesting imo. Smooth, citrus/spice/leather/vetiver combo, extremely well blended. Not particularly summer scent, can be cloying in a high heat if oversprayed.

Should be rated higher than 3.6 as I think its a quite unique and surprising well blended nice simple sweet/woody/leather blue fragrance thats good for the colder months or would be on the fresher side for a date fragrance.

If you like any of D&G Kings...Buy this. Its a great take on King EDP intense with the leather which I think CK did first...Defy is a value at discount pricing. They tried on this line. CK can hang. They did here.

Very underrated. A cheapie Gem. Great leathery citrus blueish scent with a good performance I got myself a 200ml bottle

The woody fruity minty scent is so fresh clean and calming. Very pleasant! Give it 9/10.

Don't miss this one because of your opinions on the EdT! I usually ignore CK releases, but I am glad I gave this one a chance. The Defy EdT struggles to get any mention in the blue fragrance space because it cannot compete on any metric. The EdP is a different story. This fragrance is a pleasant and soft woodsy and leather scent that has moderate performance, and a very competitive price-to-value ratio. CK fragrances tend to under-perform, lasting maybe 3-4 hours, leaving no trace. Defy EdP has a bit of that CK pedigree, in that it does not project strongly, but that intimate cloud is alluring. I'm experiencing 3-4 hours of arm's length scent, and then it retreats to a soft, intimate scent for another 3 hours or so. That's why I would recommend this fragrance for an understated user. Defy EdP is best suited to casual or intimate wear, for a person that is looking to have a comfortable scent. The real appeal of Defy EdP is that it is widely available, is getting overlooked due to associations with the EdT, and is a fraction of the price of other frags in this space. If you're looking for something along this scent profile, Defy EdP is a smart buy.

Right off the top I get earthy, tobacco-ish a little dryness, woody, aromatics, leaning clean.. The vetiver diesnt feel her as it dies in other scents. (Usually vetiver is warm woody citric for me) I don't know that I find this peppery- like Miu Miu is on me... possibly minerally earthy would be a better word for it, no overt citrus for me/not heavily citrus in feel either - no pith, I get alot more of the aromatics down the base layers and by that time I quite like it, sorta generically nice by that time. As a female I don't think I could spare this all over and feel great - due to the dry tobacco feel I get. I wouldn't say this scent feels very leathery either- its not like a couch or leather jacket.. the leather is very background. But a good fragrance, I get the lavender gently with slight powder way down the line. This is an interesting non blue smelling blue scent, the opener making it original, the edt has a little if the same but far less, and that one is cleaner/freshie/aromatic/blue and sits ontop of the skin and has more sillage, the edp sinks in and is a little quieter after a while. Good longevity for me too, summer skin test.

Oh, this is nice. It starts off in a similar way to other blue scents, but then veers off into leathery territory and stays there for the rest of its life. Some leather fragrances come up smelling of nothing but leather on me, but this doesn't. It's kind of peppery, but also kind of citrusy. I like it! I really like that Calvin Klein scents have a pretty common thread of freshness for the most part. This is the best variation of Defy in my opinion - the EDT is just chemically citrusy blech, and the Parfum, while also very nice, doesn't do much more than a prominent cacao note. Like the Parfum, I really appreciate that Calvin Klein have done something different to other blue scents with this. I don't think it's going to put a spotlight back on them, but it's much better than the stuff they were putting out just a few years ago. As with all Calvin Kleins, this is pretty good value - you can get 100mL of it for 90 AUD, or 200mL for just $20 more. So, if you like it enough, getting a lot of it won't set you back too much. Is this going to be the blue fragrance I end up buying?? We shall see.

This is one of those fragrances that while not being too showy or flamboyant somehow becomes quite compelling. There's an understated elegance here despite being a modern type scent, this is actually a decent release from a brand which IMO gets unfairly trashed by fragrance snobs and reviewers. I'll definitely consider buying a bottle at some point to keep alongside other excellent (and probably more unique) CK releases such as Obsessed for Men Intense EDP and CK2 in my collection. Just to add, the leather vibe here is just right, not dirty or oppressive, so people who don't usually like this note may even like it here. This isn't revolutionary but it's a likeable & versatile modern masculine fragrance which lasts surprisingly well.

Can't deny this is versatile and very over sprayable. The citrus hits you nicely in the opening but unfortunately gives too much room to the woods and base notes too quickly. The smell itself is good, nothing too unique, and very "orange." Performance is pretty average (on the lower side) and does not call too much attention on my skin. I have a small sample of it that I've been wearing for the last two days. This feels a bit too non-linear and much overpriced at retail ($100+ for the 3.3oz) with the performance that not many would go for even on a fresh warmer temperature scent. Do not recommend buying this at retail, but may be worth something in the order of $40 when it gets to discounters.

I really like this fragrance. It's louder & overall a better scent than the EDT. It's more mature & more refined than the EDT. My only gripe is the performance. So for the first 30mins-1hr this fragrance will be very loud (depending on how much you spray). This will definitely fill up a small room for that time period. However, after that time period it drastically dials back. It's unfortunate because it is a great scent. At around the 3 hour mark it becomes a skin scent & lasts as a skin scent 4 more hours, so around 6hrs-7hrs of longevity. I personally believe that this scent can be worn throughout the year, but on hot days mind your sprays. Overall it's a good scent for the price.

This is a great rack-store find at the discounted price. If you don't know what it smells like, imagine a YSL Y style blue fragrance with a prominent leather note. The leather fades fairly quickly and it dries down into a spicy YSL Y. Perfect for Spring and Fall daily wear. Not ideal for gym wear due to the leather note. To be completely honest, if you have other versions of YSL Y or other scents ideal for early fall and spring time, I don't think this is going to be one you reach for. Like, if you have an Afnan 9 PM or something, you're not going to reach for this. It's good, but only good. I like it, but I won't be buying another bottle.

To my nose, Defy EdP is very different from the original Defy EdT. The EdT version is generic and similar to many current popular fragrances on the market. Defy EdP, on the other hand, is unique with its leather/suede notes. Although the scent display is linear, three sprays in the morning lasted more than 8 hours on me. With every move, I got a whiff of vetiver, leather, and suede scent mixture. This vetiver/leather/suede profile smells warm and sweet, reminiscent of Butterscotch melting in the mouth; it is lovely!

Great leather fragrance. Leather all the way thru. dries down to a smokey amber that has this "soft" feel when it hits your nose. It's a great wearable leather fragrance the give you a good dose of very identifiable leather notes that make it a leather frag but doesn't overplay it and provides enough smokey amber smoothness as it dries down to meld it with today's style. It doesn't go full "blue" as it dries down but the lather tones down enough to get that modern touch sprinkled in with Calvin K signature style

Happened upon this in a pile of samples, and I’m pleasantly surprised. It’s much more compelling than it has a right to be. At the start I get creamy citrus and coconut with the darker elements buzzing at the edge, and the leather gradually takes up more space. I get the reference to Gucci Guilty Absolute below. I find a similar bandage accord lurking here to counterbalance the more conventional notes. After a couple of hours this calms down into a masculine coconut-vetiver that hovers at skin level.

To me this fragrance smells how I would expect the parfum version of D and G K to smell. It’s in a similar style to the edp but much darker. I would avoid wearing this is high heat situations but it still has some summer wearability. If you are a fan of K this could be a good pickup for the right price as it smells like it could be a flanker. For those seeking leather, look elsewhere. This is not at all a leather scent although it does have some noticeable traces

I don't get the "it doesn't smell like leather" comments at all. It is DOMINANT in it's leather profile. Everything else is second fiddle here. Cool Spring weather, Fall, and any Summer day that drops under 70 this will work. Last a bit off the skin for about 4-5 hours, then gets close to the skin for another couple hours, projects for 2 - 3 hours before becoming more of a personal bubble within a foot. For 35 bucks at Burlington, it is phenomenal.

Got this in a sample kit from Macy's for Christmas and it's been on my radar ever since. Saw a 100ml bottle at TJ Maxx for $40 tonight so I pulled the trigger. You won't find many votes under "This perfume reminds me of..." because there is nothing else like it. Just interesting, different, inviting, and well-blended..... get your hands on it. Easily one of CK's best.

soft and sweet citrus with a nice peppery touch with plenty of suede and vetiver and a hint of leather on the back. Fresh but with a little darker vibe it works pretty well. Smells pretty good and designer although simple and nice and masculine. Performance is OK and a nice reach for an all round scent especially for its often discounted prices on many sites.

Really a nice one; I personally think it deserves a higher rating than its current (at the time of this review) 3.42. A very well-balanced citrus and leather scent, which doesn't lean too far in either direction. The bottle design gives the impression of a typical "blue" freshy, but that's not what this is. It has a lovely smokey quality. Sexy and masculine.

This is actually a good fragrance, I really like it after one testing. I am glad I finally did it cause I was put-down by the edt which I found to be incredibly boring and uninspired. I will definitely give this a full wearing! This reminds me of a blue flanker to Baldessarini Private Affairs or even more of Gianfranco Ferre L'Uomo.

I only have a 5ml sample of this. Just sprayed it on. It's quite nice actually with a good performance. A sweet, fresh fruity frag but nothing special. It's leather note is very muted. Pleasant enough. It's a versatile perfume but a much better option is the lovely Guess Man. I think I would buy this if the price fell however.

This is a unique fragrance and I love it. This is regal, people tend to write CK fragrances off. Every now and then they come up with great and unique fragrances. Defy edp is one of those. I give this a 10/10. That suede combo with the smoky/citrus/kind of aquatic vibe is magical.

it's pretty nice, on my skin it smells and feels very subtle. I'm usually pretty sensitive to colognes and do a spray from afar but this one took 2 sprays. the longevitity is pretty moderate, the smell is nice, just kinda subtle which I enjoy.

I tried this the other day. It isn’t anything groundbreaking, but a big improvement over the original EDP. It’s richer and more dense, and longer lasting.

A leathery, woody, citrusy, and somewhat sweet fragrance even though it's not listed as a note. A classy take on a blue fragrance. 6.5/10

Good stuff and affordable. Leather and Orange? Yum. Moderate performance but for the cost you can do extra sprays. Smells like old money.

This is a very unique male scent a muscular strong profile not a trendy fragrance I like it.. it doesnt smell like everyone else

This is an interesting one. I don't personally don't pick up any orange note off the top. There is some black pepper for sure. The one fruit I pick up on is coconut. I wasn't expecting it but I'm okay with it. Its like a creamy, mildly sweet type of coconut that blends well with the dominant leather note that's in here. Suede and Vetiver really helps to put those two together. Its a really pleasant scent profile and is rather masculine. Its even sexy and sophisticated. I'm sure you probably don't believe me but it just simply works. You can wear this year round because its very versatile. This is a good office friendly scent and can even be worn on a causal date especially if you got some leather or faux leather on of some kind lol. I really like it and I have been drawn to wearing this one more than expected. Its an addicting scent.

This was the last of probably 8-10 scents I tried and I purchased only this one, I loved it for its almost creamy scent for the first 24 hours but I work and thought "Why does it smell like my barber shop" then I realised it was the heavy and thick leathery, woody, powdery scent from the fragrance. I haven't worn it out yet and will probably sell it before I do, could see someone more mature (30's, 40's) wearing this, but not teens or early 20's. Would probably bode well for professional workspace environments with 2 sprays max, even 1 spray is probably enough for most purposes. I picture it as a workplace fragrance for the late 20s onwards white collar man who just wants to not smell like BO.

Defy Eau de Parfum is an okay release but somewhat uninspiring due to its lack of creativity. Defy Eau de Parfum smells like a generic version of Gentleman Intense without the quality and sophistication. Defy Eau de Parfum is a masculine fragrance that could be worn year round but is probably better suited for spring/fall/winter seasons, day or night and worn in practically any situation. Performance and projection are solid. Defy Eau de Parfum may be a good choice for newer noses. Fragheads and/or experienced noses should steer clear unless your goal is to amass a gigantic collection of fragrances, and/or if you simply enjoy the Defy line.

Ugh another decent smelling Calvin Klein with no performance, I got a sample and have worn it a few times ....the scent is enjoyable is a smokey citrus that dries down to a actually decent leather scent but it's disappearing quickly by 2-4 hrs its barely a skin scent this seems to be a downfall of a lot of Calvin Klein scents but the few hours you get, this is a cooler weather probably leaning towards a night scent .....I wouldn't pay full retail for this but at this point that goes for all Calvin Klein Fragrances

Having first tried Clavin Klein's original Defy as Eau de Toilette (a nice and clean but boring lavender bomb), this version –Eau de Parfum– is much bolder and rugged. Opens up citrus-fresh for a few minutes, then takes a turn into something gloomy. I love leather and animalic smells yet Defy EdP is of a "dirty" type, or pungent to be precise. Lots of pepper! Maybe the earthy vetiver is playing games here as well. I'm not digging it as much as I would have liked to...
