Defy Parfum

The perfume that brought me into this frag game is CK Defy EDP and i still remember how happy i was that day to first experience what vetiver, smoky and leather is. Fast forward 3 years later, it's easy to say that a lot of new purchases aren't inspiring at all. I just buy it and then, yeah, ok, good. I rarely feel anything "wow" or fun like the first bottle. Say whatever you want if you're a niche head but to me CK Defy EDP is 100% blind buy worthy and worth purchased. Now, smelling the Parfum version, the same feeling from the EDP reappears to me. That level of joy, inspiration and fun has showed up again after a long time. And yes, it's somewhat fairly different from the EDP and the EDT but the progression is there. And it's weird to say that CK Defy Parfum has some Versace Pour Homme DNA in the best way possible. That salty marine lemon note is just so sexy and addictive and this smell like the best designer you can get in terms of quality. There's nothing challenging about this frag and don't let the notes fool you: this bottle is all year friendly, fresh, refreshing, citrus, marine and then turn earthy cacao with a slight sexiness from the pepper, makes this scent sophisticated and versatile enough. Idk why but i really love this quality of sense that smells like an American mall, there's just something very American and shopping mall vibe about this one. Even the peper notes is also fresh and masculine and just add layers to the cacao notes. There's like a slight hint of Versace Eros here, especially the mint and the creamy sandalwood but done in a different way and very appealing to my nose. Longevity, half a spray last on my hand 6 hours straight. Imagine you go 3 spray with it. This is like a very fun continuation. I'm thinking of stop buying clones just because the quality will never reach this and it is in general so uninspiring to me.

Summer skin test. This one is nothing like the edp and edt AT ALL. That's fine, but if someone hates the other two why would they pick this one up? This should be another stand alone scent. Anyway. This is warm, gentle aromatics, effing lovely. I can't think off hand what it's similar to if anything, but I'd call this 'experienced nose unisex'.. you know how the black bottle of JPG is, and there's a gold one too .. and some valentinos are... that warm feel, yeah that's here. Oh and that cheapie Beckham ... um beyond I think its called - that rounded powdery lavender- that's the aromatic level here. A bit dry too. Zero tobacco feel as I've mentioned in my reviews of the edt and edp. This frag sits quiet,but lasts well I think. Good job

I have been collecting for about a year now and this was the one that started it. Today in the northeast it is slightly cooler, so I decided to wear Defy. it is projecting like a beast for the first 2-3 hours of wearing it then it becomes around a 6-inch skin scent for the remaining 3-4 hours. I would say this is a perfect scent for the fall or a summer night out. the opening hits you in the face with cacao but during your second whiff you get the spiciness of the pink pepper with a cool lavender undertone. Defy is fore sure sweeter than other CK frags but it does not disappoint, if you can get it on sale grab it for the fall

Another fragrance with a stupid low rating it doesn't deserve. This is a calm, blue scent that no one will be offended by. The cacao tone isn't overwhelming, and you may not even perceive it as cacao. Lavender is the star of the show: relaxing and subtly sweet. There's something floral and slightly indolic to my nose if you smell it super close off skin, but it's very warm and inviting in the air and I don't get the indolic intimations off clothing. Glad I gave this a shot in spite of the negative reviews. If you like soft, sweet fragrances like those in the Boss The Scent line, you'll probably dig this one.

Why almost nobody speaks about this fragrancs,YT etc... Very underrated beautiful cozy scent.It opens with red pepper,lavender and spices,in the drydown goes toward sweet cacao with musk for sure.As parfum concentration projects really well for first two hours,then became nice warm bubble around you in arm lenght for next three hours.After that sits close to skin giving you very calm feeling.Like you don't want it to fade yet. Real fall to winter perfume,like it warms you up when you applied it.Deserve more love for sure and much higher rating,like 4.25 at least. For me 9/10

Saw it for sale and bought it to try, didn't get to test it so it was a blind. I have the EDP and while this parfum kept the Defy dna, it does smell different. Parfum has lavender and while the same pepper smell from the EDP project, instead of the leather it's the lavender and a Chocho background and base supports it. It smells like a CH men or maybe the extreme and the robotic paco robanne...tried to be gourmandy but it's still pretty much designer. Don't really suit the older folks...

Absolutely under the radar fragrance. A total banger! Very Lavender forward with a bit of a smoky backend. Actually it reminds me a lot of a less watery version of Boss Bottled Night. BBN is also Lavender forward with a note I could only describe as wet, sounds weird but that's the only way I can describe it, this has that same wet lavender smell just the lavender is more forward in this one. Pretty good sillage too. I'm loving this stuff, 14.99 at Ross

Very good and intricate take on Defy formula. It starts with pepper but kinda fresh, and later blends into cacao, but somehow stays a bit fresh, but became more cozy maybe. Love how all flankers made - that they are unique yet recognizable. Like all defy flankers the downside is that its kinda weak, while name suggest that it is parfume version its longevity is similar to EDT

A typical Calvin Klein fragrance—clean, balanced, and never offensive. It’s one I find myself reaching for often, especially at night, as it makes a great evening scent. The cacao shell note is particularly appealing; I only wish they had gone further and added cacao itself to deepen the richness.

Defy Parfum is so Underrated without acceptable reasons. This is actually a solid release. It smells very nice and sexy with very good performance and great for any occasions. For the price, it is absolutely bang for your bucks.

Coming from a niche lover, this is nice. Thecombination of notes are polarizing but in a good way to someone that prefers to standout from the crowd. I can report on longevity and sillage later. For now, I'm satisfied.

This is 99% same scent with the CK Obsession Night (Man EDT), it project the almost similar potent obsession night scent in a good way. It stick to my skin more than 8 hours, top quality!

Pretty plain and simply put; a very modern, very masculine, mass appealing scent. Great longevity. Best of the line.

I don't know how people call this "Axe Dark Temptation"... Nowhere near close that IMO. I don't even get that cacao much honestly but yeah there is a slight nuance coming from it which is really cool and not overwhelming. I can say that, this fragnance may not be the most unique one out there, may not be the best parfum I've ever had, but still, its crisp and clean and doesn't smell cheap. Also performance is not WEAK. This is the PARFUM edition, how people say its not strong... Surely it doesn't act like a niche, 200USD perfume, but the projection and longevity is just enough. It was a blind buy for me and I'm keepin it, my office friends also like it. Though people stated that this a winter-fall perfume, it will also do the job in spring and summer nights. So this is kinda all around perfume with strong background. I recommend it if monetary concerns is not on your list when you are buying a perfume. Edit: Dry phase of this perfume is AMAZING and this fragrance has some serious performance. It stayed like 8-10 hours on my skin without losing its notes and easily stayed like 2 days on my sweatshirt collar. And you get projection around 4 hours which is more than enough; people will notice you in office. I'm updating the overall score accordingly. 8.5/10 I would say.

Oh no, I think I've just realised what this smells like. This, to my nose at least, smells like the chocolate Lynx/Axe spray - Dark Temptation I think it's called? It has a strong, but smooth cacao note and not much else. I mean, it's nice, but this is a smell I haven't thought of in over a decade. As a high school student, I went absolutely feral over Dark Temptation. I love chocolate, and it was different to any of the other scents they had in their range at the time. Something about the slightly dark sweetness appealed to me. That same chocolatey sweetness that this has drew me in as well. Is it worth buying? I'm not sure. You can get 200mL of the stuff for 100 AUD, and it's certainly going to last a lot longer than a can of Lynx. It's pretty simplistic, but it does at least go in a different direction to the other blue bottle scents. I am a firm disliker of Sauvage, BdC and Dylan Blue on account of how ordinary they smell, so I appreciate that Calvin Klein has done something different with their contribution to the trend. That said, I find the EdP much better and more interesting than this, and you can get that for the same price. I'd go with that instead of this.

O zaman mağazaya BDC alma hedefi ile gitmiştim ama satıcı bana bunu yeni çıktı diye önermişti. YAZ AYINDA. Öve öve bitiremediği bu kokunun yazlık olduğunu ona düşündüren neydi anlam veremedim. Gerçi performansı o kadar kötü ki insanlara koku ulaşmayacağı için rahatsız edeceğini düşünmüyorum. Ama yine de koku profili olarak kışlık kullanıma daha uygun. Tatlı ve aromatik kokunun içinden kakaoyu ilk günden o ham burnumla bile alabiliyordum. Parfüm gerçek anlamda ilk parfümüm olduğu için uzun bir süre günlük hayatıma dahil olmuştu ve o zamanlarda yaşadığım duygular bu kokunun içinde gömülü. Şu an bu parfümü elimden çıkardım ama geri almak gibi bir planım var. Bu kadar spesifik olarak bana anıları/duyguları hatırlatan bir parfümüm hala yok. Mevcut şişelerimin yanında kalite/koku/performans olarak geri kalsa da bir çoğundan daha önemli bir yere sahip benim için. Son yorumum ise eğer benim gibi özel bir yeri yoksa CK parfümü alınmaz.

I sampled it , and liked so much that bought the 200ml at an very good price , after i broked the seal and let it to macerate for 5 weeks and after this 5 weeks the magic started like the tester from the shop i was. What is weird after 2h i feel some fruity note that i am not sure wich is (blackcurrant or blueberries) but blends amazing with the cocoa , even that has cocoa on my skin when is applied do not smell sweet or very sweet , its more woody and i think has vetiver and , but not sure pine needles as olfactory note. Its not a beast at sillage, but on longevity on my PH goes really well 9+ hours. Sillage : 3/5 i wish they could make it project more then 1.5-2h and more then an arm lenght at how great smell on my skin , but for the price that i pay'ed is more then ok (99€ that was a bargain for 200ml) Longevity 5/5 9+ hours is quite good Versatility and Olfactory notes 5/5 in my case can wear it to everything and the fact that is not overly sweet on me is a pleasant surprise. As a suggestion test it before or sample it and for sure not everyone will like it or love it.

the opening is very citrussy, however, it does have a cacao note on the opening which can feel a little bit weird. Personally I do not smell the lavender but the spicyness of the pink pepper is there. Some people claim that it smells similar to badboy edt. It doesn't the cacao notes are way to different one is more like a milk chocalte the defy is definitely a darker bolder cacao, toasted note. It does last a lot with moderate projection on me for at least 1.5 to 2 hours. It does fill a room girls find the scent very pleasing and attractive however, because it is quite strong I am afraid after 5-6 hours I can barely smell it on my skin and possibly because I get nose blind. Also, if found at ross, marshalls, burlington etc, you can find it for $16 for the 50mL bottle which is not bad at all. 5 Atomizations and you are good to go.

The balance of clean lavender and warm, comforting cocoa is really nice, and makes this an easy reach for casual every day wear. Since spraying this first around a month ago, the lavender has calmed significantly and the cocoa is now stronger and blooms within the first ten to fifteen minutes. (It took hours to be barely noticable under the opening notes initially.) Masculine till it dries down, then gets more unisex throughout the rest of the wear time. 12h+ noticable sillage/longevity sprayed 3 times over moisturised skin, and the slightly floral chocolate in the dry down stays as a skin scent till you wash it off. Moderate projection with a subtle intensity. I can smell it but it's not really noticable to others unless they're right up close.

This is a more gourmand Defy - I received a 10 ml sample and haven’t tried the other two - and it gets better the further it dries down. The combination of semi-sweet cacao and dry vetiver brings to mind JPG’s Scandal, and Defy Parfum smells like something that would not be amiss in JPG’s or Rabanne’s line-up. It’s not bad at all for a recent Calvin Klein release . If a Parfum Intense, Absolu or Elixir is in the works, I’d like to see the addition of one or more of these: raspberry, vanilla, iris, caramel, almond.

I don't know if it's because this fragrance is the "new new" for me but i'm loving to wear this around the house now a days and I can't wait for warmer weather to wear it out and about. It's like they took all the good aspects of all past Calvin klein mens fragrances and mashed them together into one bottle. Then made sure it was modern and added some sweet cocoa and even some freshness. I'm even thinking that this can compete with its great unique blue leather predecessor Defy edp for top Calvin klein scent.

Totally overlooked gem. Nice fresh opening with a seductive powdery cacao/nutty dry down. It's virtually free at discounters too, so it feels like a no-brainer addition. It starts very blue-ish typical modern man frag but dries down into a sweet powdery fragrance, but clean. Also nobody wears this so you'll be unique. Very overlooked.

This is a classic lavender "blue" fragrance with a tiny hint of cacao. Won't knock your socks off, but smells a little unique to the standard YSL Y, Dylan Blue, Sauvage combo. Good for work, lasts long enough, leaves a nice trail. Good buy as a daily fragrance.

I got quiet a bit of green orange and sweet lime in the opening, mixed with sweet woodsy notes. Not found cacao (or may be a hint) but lil vetiver and vanilic sweetness. Overall I liked it and enjoyed.

This opens with fresh spicy pink pepper and lavender. Dry down is very clean and enjoyable. Longevity 6-8 hours.

Is it just me or this reminds me of JPG Le beau LE PARFUM?

I need to mention this first cause when I first sprayed it, I thought it was light and not projecting but I was very wrong. I walked out of the dining table and came back only to realise that it was fully in the air. This stuff projects silently but really well. Has good longevity too. Smell wise, I see AXE Chocolate there but this does not smell like that at all. It started with a clean soapy blue scent type of lavender. As it dried down, it became more powdery and the cacao shows it self there. If you go in for a closer sniff, you can smell the pepper there. My brain is connecting the dots and telling me that its F black by Ferragamo kind of pepper but with a powdery chocolaty base. Is this something very complex and unique ? Not really. Does it smell good tho ? yes it does. Looking for a clean chocolaty powdery scent thats not sickeningly sweet and has good projection and longevity ? give this a try.

Minty, fresh and modern. Opens with a mint note, it's fresh and a little aromatic. Notes of chocolate-patchouli emerge but it remains fresh. Becomes gourmand with vanilla aromas and something else that resembles coconut. Smells like a fig tree as it wafts through the air. Retains the minty coolness quite well throughout. Modern and masculine leaning, ages 18-45(ish.) Best worn during the day, any time of year, and fine for the office too. Performance is fine, solid projection and lasts as a skin scent for 10+hrs. Smells a little generic as it follows modern vanilla trends but smells nice and will pull compliments.

expensive version of chocolate axe that was popular as a kid in high school. I cant wrap my head around the scent. cacao as a top note is a weird mix with lavender. Cant think of any situations where i would wear this.

I tested it in unusually hot and humid weather 🌡️💦, so it’s hard to judge it fairly. It seemed good, I guess 🤔—but I feel like I didn’t give it a fair shot. Definitely needs a proper, focused re-test 🧪🔁.

The fall season version of Defy EDP, it is pretty nice and universal for day or night, but there is NOT much cacao !!

Way sweeter than expected. Don't really care for it. It's just a boring linear vanilla sweet scent.

It smells similar to 1 Million Royal, but not nearly as sweet. The cacao note is quite prominent because the pepper seems to bring it forward earlier than you might expect. After a brief drydown, a smooth lavender sweetness comes out. The cacao is still there, and adds a kind of nutty edge to the sweetness, like a nutmeg or dry walnut accord. Of the Defy lineup, I would say the best one is the EdP - with it's smooth leather accord. The Parfum is a safe pick for someone who wants to smell just a tad sweet and warm/spicy. A black licorice/anise note would have done well here, to give it a bit more body. Defy Parfum is pleasant, not overly expensive, and aims to land in a restrained space to avoid being divisive. I would recommend this fragrance to someone who wants to smell intriguing, but not project an ostentatious insecurity. To those complaining about pre-release negative comments, I hear you. I assure you, this review is based off three applications to my skin, days apart - and from a tester in a retail store in Canada. This fragrance is, in fact, released - and Canada usually gets releases weeks after the US, at best. Don't worry about the overly-negative troll reviews flipping to shill-based vapid praise in a few months. Defy Parfum is nice, but not great. It's a competent release, but won't be a tour de force on YouTube or social media as one of the greats in 2023.

i tried this from a 1.5ml tester. it's ok for the first 5 minutes then it just gets too sweet and turns more feminine. i don't like it.

Smells like mall mini-golfing. Does mellow over time, but it's still not for me.

Not bad, not amazing but it is mass appealing. Smells somewhat like a mix of Phantom EDT and Bad Boy Extreme in the opening and then leans towards the cacao in the dry down. Does a great job at what it's intended to do. Edit: The more I smell this the worse it gets, I no longer agree with my statement of it being 'not bad' because now to my nose it is just awfully synthetic, had to get rid of my tester.

Tried it. Up front it smells very incense-y. It actually smells exactly like CDG Incense Kyoto, which I own. Dries down differently. Comes out a bit 'heavy herbal' vibe, almost vegetal. Not sure who'd want to wear this.

Reminds me of the chocolate Axe/Lynx body spray I’d use in middle school. This is, in no way, shape or form, a blue fragrance. Synthetic, chocolatey, peppery: imagine walking into your favourite cafe right after working out. You want to smell fresh, but you know cardio day doesn’t help a fresh cologne’s performance too much. So you spray this on. They’ve tried to complicate it. But its complications are for the sake of complications. Lasts 5 hours on the skin. It is cheap, and it smells cheap. But it’s better than a few expensive fragrances I’ve smelled.

The trolls are out with the votes above I see ('female' 'very weak' 'intimate and 'way overpriced') 🙄 Interesting to see how people get so upset about CK when once they hit discounters they are far more affordable and less of a rip-off than many (most?) other designer brands. The Defy EDP was very nice, I'm looking forward to trying this (always hoping to discover another gem from CK to go with my Obsessed Intense for Men EDP and CK2).

Smelt this on the weekend, it’s nice, not nearly as unique or memorable as the EDT or EDP, cacao note is prominent and not much else stood out. Doesn’t have much to do with the rest of the Defy line which I find annoying What else is annoying it the ratio of people on here complaining about review bombing or hating on this or that, more than I see anyone actually bombing or hating, I see people complaining about it

It’s not even out yet and look at all this shiz. You’re all a bunch of liars and make this site pretty insufferable at times. I’ve seen this before only for opinions to flip and suddenly hype and praise come. Can you all get a grip and wait until it’s actual out to trash? Sad as f.

THIS IS NOT A REVIEW...just an observation. I am shocked that so many people on Fragrantica know what AXE smells like! Apparently, many frag heads shop at trailer park convenience stores!! Lord, I'm an elitist..

Similar to AF First Instinct Extreme for the spiciness. After that, dry, dusty, slightly powdery chocolate scent through all day. Imagine yourself as walking cocoa powder coated macaron.

this is my first CK fragrance and it was a big surprise this is very good one. it does not smell cheap as its price... it is not too dark/sweet.. it is in the same vein as Bad boy EDT

I will start by saying I really don't like the EDT or EDP of this. But the Parfum is lovely to my nose. Easy to wear, good performance, great price.

I like how nobody is actually reviewing this fragrance. I haven't sampled it either but I get the vibe, nobody asked for this from Calvin Klien.
