Encounter

I know I’m going to get a lot of flack for saying this, because of of people on this site tend to hate inn CK frangrances and their flankers. Mostly due to performance issues, but I adore this scent. So much so, that I’m proud to call this my signature scent. The booze in this one is unreal, and the closest thing I’ve ever had to a boozy scent is Bentley intense and Banana Republic Black Walnut, and to my nose this scent destroys the other two. BRBW has serious longevity issues and Bentley is a great second , but this one drives me crazy. You can tell CK tried to do something different here, and nobody should accuse this scent of being uninspired, or unoriginal. I read some reviews below and people complained about performance and I’m seriously surprised about those comments. I got 3 100ml bottles for about $100 bucks at a Rexall Pharmacy. The sales was great and I also picked up a 50ml of CK Encounter Fresh for $15, without getting off topic too much Encounter Fresh is not as good as this one, and that’s the one with performance issues. I get 2 hours with that one tops. For me the mandarin orange, rum, musk, cognac, cardamom, and jasmin pop so well that it just seems really blended well. I get tons of compliments everywhere I go, but I get more compliments from other men, not women. I think that’s the biggest thing I’ve noticed when wearing this. Men tend to find this scent amazing, while women a little less. I’ve experience the same effect with Creed Aventus. Men tend to love the smell more than women do. On my skin I easily get between 5 to 6 hours, and for those complaining about longevity I think you may be under applying this scent, you do have to go a little extra. If you like boozy, dark, unique fresh scents, this is your juice. Scent-10/10 Longevity-8/10 Silage-7/10 Value-9/10 Overall-8.5/10

A fantastic scent that I honestly believe is getting a lot of flack simply because it's a Calvin Klein scent, and people go into it with negative expectations. It opens with a smooth citrus and cardamom, flanked by a warm cognac note. A jasmine note with strong grape nuances emerges in the heart and almost becomes too strong and too sweet, it truly is a fairly intense jasmine sambac note, but just before it does so the soft but present oud and patchouli step in to balance it and keep it in check. There is a clean/dirty musk that runs throughout the scent, and I have a feeling many people are anosmic to this, because this is the last note on my skin and it really does last a long time. Sillage is moderate, but longevity is 8+ hours on me. I can get faint whiffs of that final clean/dirty musk (given that the perfumer's are from Firmenich, I'm guessing it is a Firmenich captive musk) for up to 16 hours after application. It also has a nice warm/cool balance with the cool florals and cool citrus balanced by the warm cognac and cardamom. It's a great scent to wear on a serene winter day. Masculine, modern, and yet with some unique accords and depth. A seriously underrated scent that I have no problem putting in my top 30. PS: One of the perfumers for this, Pierre Negrin, is the same guy who did the much loved Amouage Opus VI and Interlude Man. Edit: One more thing. I too get a slight fecal dirty aspect to this scent. I think it's the indoles in the jasmine. I think it's pretty daring to use such a prominent jasmine in a modern masculine. This scent really deserves a lot more credit. Sniff it with an open mind and don't pre-hate! :)

ENCOUNTER was given to me for a gift. To be honest, I'd never even heard of it. With that said, it has to be one of my favourite new scents! I’ve found that it lasts for hours and it’s certainly noticed by the “passerby”. It definitely projects and will last you for an evening out. As for how it smells? I’m not going to say it smells like this scent or that one because I just can’t distinguish them. Perhaps that’s because I’m oblivious when it comes to the world of fragrances, or perhaps it’s just because they really AREN’T discernable. I’ll just go with the former and blame myself. What I will say is this. Calvin Klein has created a wonderfully sexy, soft and masculine scent which I would put on par with Dolce & Gabbana’s “The One”. While they do not have the same scent, they share many of the same qualities; those being the soft/smooth “feel” the slightly “Dirty” masculine smell with a subtle warmth to it. From my personal overall experience I rate Encounter an 4 1/2 (out of five).

I absolutely love this scent. This and Euphoria are my favorite from CK. Both suffer from weak performance though. Encounter is slightly sweet in the opening quickly turning into a spicy, powdery, boozy scent with a touch of patchouli. It is very seductive and the spiciness of the scent makes it intoxicating to smell it. This is a wonderful scent but very subtle. Projection is very poor on this but it's not necessarily a bad thing. I would say this scent is pretty versatile because it's so subtle. It's a great scent for a close encounter or even a work day really. I could understand someone not liking this because it is fairly unique. I can't think of many fragrances like it. I love this for a close encounter or a day when I don't want to offend. Unfortunately you get what you pay for and this does suffer performance issues. But the smell itself is spicy, powdery, boozy fantastic.

so much negative feedback on this...such a shame as this is my FAVORITE men's cologne. i am FAR more finicky and critical of mens fragrances than i am of womens bcuz most mens colognes i can taste and they torture my sinuses! this scent is wonderful & not only did i buy it for my man (now ex lol) but i actually own it for me...and yes, i wear it. it does last, it does project but it is subtle not a powerhouse. the trick with this fragrance is to layer it with the body spray-then you're golden =) this has a green edge with a slight sweetness that on a man (as intended) is sexy & can also be played off by a woman like me who doesn't care what anyone else thinks or abt putting genders on fumes. i just want to bask in it regardless of who it's marketed towards. try layering this like i said and i'm sure any longevity and sillage problems will be solved.

I ended up getting a 50ml bottle for £14 delivered, so coulnd't turn the chance down. It is definitely not so dull and generic as people are making out on her. It's actually quite nice and warming. Sillage in truth is pretty poor, but then does anyone buy a Calvin Klein fragrance (obvs not Obsession) to fill a room, I think not. Definitely warm and boozy, the Cardamon and Cognac notes in the opening are quite pleasant, warm and boozy. It mellows and dries down to a warm musky woody soft scent, I get a minimal amount of Oud, but it's in there somewhere. After about 2 hours it is very close to the skin, but overall i really do like it. As for the bottle, I like it, nice and solid, the cap does need to be put on a certain way, but again I really like it. Overall 7/10

I came across this one in a shop when looking for something else, and figured I'd get a sample for my man. My husband tried it... and honestly I had trouble staying off of him. It's light and seductive. You can smell the rum, but it's balanced by suble earthy tones. It hits your senses in all the right areas. No it's not an overpowering cologne, it's more like a soft wisper that leaves you craving more. As far as longevity, it's not bad... he used it on his shirt and his skin. And guys it only took two sprays. I could still smell it on him when we got home that night, which was a good 12 hours later. Definetly sample before you buy it, but isn't that usually the case? As for us, it's definetly going to be a future buy :o)

I love this scent, but I'm biased because it was a gift from my significant other years ago, and smelling it reminds me of those times with her. If I'm going to draw a picture of what this scent smells like..Picture yourself slowly drizzling warm, sweet, & thick honey onto a mixer preparing an alcoholic beverage, while in the distant background you also see your SO wrapped up in a fur blanket waiting for you by the fire. It's sweet, boozey, and warm. It smells very romantic to me. It is undoubtedly a night time fragrance. The performance is not very good. It's something to be worn if you're going to be close to someone, such as a movie, a walk on the beach, or just chilling out together.

This is the second time that I've tested Encounter on a sample card. Believe it or not, but Encounter out lasted samples that I took from Aqua Di Gio Essenze, Versace Eau Fraiche, Armarni Code Sport, CK One Summer 2015. The only other fragrance that Encounter has continued to stay with of the samples that I took is, Davidoff Cool Water. I personally love the smell of Encounter. I will buy a bottle once I finish all my other stuff. IMO it's a perfect subtle scent for an evening. I'm starting to learn that having a frag with big silage is counter productive to what I'm trying to achieve with a scent. This would be perfect. Mike

I see the good and the bad in this fragrance. The good is that it smells amazing. Disregard the "boozy" reviews. This is a nice, dare I say classy, with a great blend of woods, herbs, and alcohols. The bad is that this scent doesn't last long at all. After about an hour it is almost nonexistent. I expected more from a designer like Calvin Klein and thought finding this gift set for 10 dollars was a steal. I would have much rather picked up an Axe or Old Spice body spray for half the price and three times the longevity. The smell is good and I plan on using it after showers, before bed, or as a refresher.

After years of not finding anymore I found 30 ml bottles from a discount vendor site for 24 dollars. Hot dog does it still smell good! Ive missed my old friend of a cologne, even if it only sits in my skin. But wow! For at least 2 hours does it smell great! I wish some clone house will be inspired to recreate this accord with more quality ingredients. What is lacking in the formula that the longevity is cut short? I loce this still. Encounter was my signature for a little while amd it was my first true mature man's fougere. I was in my early 20s. I can still rock it just for me.

Has a sharp alcohol and pepper opening that settles quickly. Cannot smell any oud at any stage. Middle notes are sweet enough as the patchouli and cypress become dominate. On dry-down could be a cheap clone to M. Micallef's Royal Vintage, although, MMRV has class, very good longevity and reasonable sillage. Plus you can tell the quality of the ingredients are top notch in MMRV. Encounter smells synthetic, has sillage issues and 3 hours at most of longevity. Worth the buy if you like MMRV but can't afford it.

encounter by calvin klein is actually my favorite fragrance on this planet, i have smelled so many many and many fragrances and no one compares to this great and masterpiece smell!! great longevity it gets 10+hours, and it has a great Projection, every one smells me from a distance with this great fragrance and i get great compliments, it gets close to my skin after 9 hours,it is the best fragrance in the world encounter is the best fragrance to impress a girl!! this fragrance gets a 10/10

I just bought today a 50ml bottle of this juice and I all have to say is that I totally love the coconut and some liquor scent. I don't know why some people discriminate CK fragrances, maybe because they are not super expensive or not "Tom Ford" kind of scents. The longevity is average (3 to 5 hours in my skin) for the moment. I also like the deep blue color of the bottle, it seems a little bit elegant.

Awesome scent, one of my favorites. It has a clean, fresh(not lemony), classy mysterious vibe to it. I love this one. Haven't come across one that smells anything like it. A manly type but nothing close to older manly types that are full of musk & oakmoss. A well groomed, clean, dark colors dressing type of man (not preppy). Mysterious is the vibe! Sad it's discontinued.

This was my signature scent for so many years. I'm so sad it seems to be discontinued. I love it and I just wish it lasted longer. I know it's along the same line as The One or Burberry London. But this one had scratched a particular itch for such a long time that those ones couldn't.

Guys! Encounter is a gem, it goes in the same direction like D&G The One EDT, not that they smell similar because they obviously don't smell similar, but it goes in the same direction in the way that it's not good in the performance but it gets me many many compliments!

First Calvin Klein cologne in my collection. Absolutely LOVE it !!!! Starts worm, sweet and spicy but settles down and reminds me of Karl Lagerfeld's PHOTO. I tested it first at the store and then found a gift set at Marshalls for 35 dollars. Perfect for winter!

There are too many trolls on this website that lack any form of justification as to why it's apparently a bad smell. If anyone is actually considering to buy this cologne, I would definitely recommend doing so as it's very masculine and unique.

This stuff is really nice and would be Masterpiece territory if it performed better and if the oud hung around longer. You get just a touch of it initially then it's gone. You get mostly spicy booziness that only lasts about 5 hours or so.

I have the massive 185ml bottle of this and whenever i wear it i go heavy on the trigger 'around 8-10 sprays' and it lasts most of the day. The Scent itself is great, and it's one i really enjoy wearing in Autumn. 7.5/10

Hello ! I'm drunk. Cognac and rum sound interesting and pretty cool and I'm not sure that jasmine is the king or queen of this perfume. Can't wait !

I like the initial spray scent. Very manly to me. Age is 20+. Drydown is very quick. Woody, warm, alcoholic, and sweet. :)

One of my faves. My gal pals always want to steal it from me. If it’s discontinued, I better hold onto my bottle tightly.

This has become readily available in discounters across America and can be had for as low as $19.99 (12 Quid) for a 1.7 oz, $29.99 for a 3.4 oz. I got mine for that price last fall and tried it a few times and enjoyed it but thought its performance standards left a bit to be desired. (Light projection and only 4-5 hours longevity in moderate temperatures) I have come back to this in the deep cold of winter and the cold, frigid temperatures have really brought this one to life for me and I have found the palette of boozy sweetness and dark woodsy accords fantastically enjoyable for such a mainstream release. Sure, this isn't as original, minimalist or organic as some of the refined nosed oud lovers would like it to be. Still, this one is rather unique for Calvin Klein and worth picking up on the cheap. It brings back the masculinity that had long been chipped away at in CK fragrances until they released CK One Shock. Klein seems to have learned a great deal from the run-away mainstream success of Tim McGraw's boozy, ambery and spicy releases with a segment of the population not known to have bought fragrances before with such gusto going wild for the original and Southern Blend. Blanc & Negrin have taken from McGraw's foundation and then added the popular niche craze of the day, oud, into the mix, hoping to ensnare a wide range of consumers under its all-encompassing catch-all net and garner the success Klein had in the late 1980's with Obsession and Eternity. Encounter has that boozy quality from the get-go, with the dark and dank cognac combining with the sweet and sugary rum to give Encounter its essential wine bar personality top. The booziness is embellished with a nice combination of cardamom and pepper; with the mandarin orange coming through and adding a bit more of a high-octave freshness to the mix. The oud comes in later in the wear and in my view is done rather well, though many reviewers have a point, the notes encircling it don't give it enough room to really breathe and shine. I can only speak for the oud niche scents I have gotten my nose on before and this is certainly serviceable and comparable in quality to those, but could have been a bit more minimalist to bring it out further. The dry-down is basically just some soft woods with musk and it's not very interesting, but the niceness of the first few hours makes this fragrance for me. Just be warned that projection is moderate early but it quickly slips to soft after about 30 minutes and stays that way the whole way through. In general conditions longevity was average, but in the cold after about 5-6 wears I've consistently gotten about 10-12 hours. This won't be liked by some here simply because it's Calvin Klein (translation: too common and readily available to be caught dead in public wearing). So consider that natural bias of our reviewers when considering buying this product for yourself. If you like that dark woodsy feel and boozy sweetness that are so much the essence of this one, don't let the rather soft to moderate projection of this one stand in your way. It's more subtle than many would like, but it also makes the fragrance more versatile and appropriate for formal, casual or work and a genuinely great entry-point for newbies who haven't gotten their nose on a lot of high-priced niche ouds. Sadly this didn't have the success Calvin Klein had hoped for to revitalize his declining fragrance franchise; and has continued the trend of Klein fragrances making it to the discounters within a year of release. The boozy sweetness and darker wood tones in this are really nice for a mainstream fragrance and for such a low price is worth blind buying as you can easily wear this at work or in an intimate setting and get positive reactions and at the very least a very warming, enjoyable feel from wearing it. Good in cold weather, not that impressive over 40 degrees Fahrenheit. If you live in a warm climate most of the year, probably not worth your time. But Canadians, New Englanders, Russians, Scandinavians and Great Lakes residents, Have at it for winter!

When first sprayed, one is indulged heavily into the boozy quality of this fragrance. For me, I smell the orange mixing with the rum and cognac for the first few minutes. About a half hour in, you'll be smelling the same oud/semi-sweet musk for the duration of the fragrance. Someone mentioned about "cheap deodorant", I won't lie, it does have a deodorant smell about it, but in a good way; I think it might be something from my childhood but it is recognizable to my nose from when I was a kid. I actually love the scent, however here comes the bad. The longevity is unfortunately not good. I base this around my time at work and it really isn't the frag you wanna use while out for many hours-- It will die far before you can reapply (unless you have a small atomizer filled with it at your side at all times). That said, I did wear this when I bought it on a trip, and if I'm just lounging around, the base can actually stick with you for many hours. I feel though if you have any perspiration while wearing this, it will die off quick. I'm not too aware of the projection but will assume that it isn't very strong, if even average. Presentation: 7/10- I like the bottle personally and think it has a nice shape/color scheme to it. I do believe it matches the smell of the fragrance quite well. Smell: 9/10- I honestly love the scent. Like I said earlier it's probably subconscious nostalgia somewhere when I was a kid but this scent sticks to me. Is it unique? I'm sure it isn't. But it has the right notes to me that give it a special character anyway. Longevity: 5/10- Depending on what you're doing while wearing this scent, the longevity can vary greatly. But in a regular outing with this, it won't last a great amount. Maybe 2-3 hours max before you'll feel the need to reapply. Projection: 5/10- It's hard to say the projection is just as low but considering it seems to get skin-close pretty fast as I smell it on myself, it should be safe to assume the projection isn't great. Versatility: 6/10- This can be used in a date setting, lounging around the house or going out for an hour or so. If you want a very close scent while at your job, this can work. But if you are looking to grab compliments from people, expect them to have to bury their face into your clothing to actually smell it. Final Score: 6.4/10- I really do love the scent, but the longevity and projection hold it back from greatness. If you though are looking for a great scent that is light in those terms, then give this a try. I am glad to have this in my collection and I will find uses for it.

Dear Readers, I must say the trend of Oud in the western scene of perfumes brought a very cool experience to male perfumes. I tried this new guy with its bro Dark obsession , I found them both to be very metro-sexual types or soft male. I don't mind soft male fragrances , and this Encounter perfume I must say was very friendly on my nose and body chemistry, the Oud gives it a " Hm.-mMMMmmmm" to it but its a light ingredient it seems ,because the rest of notes are very dominant and makes this fragrance very sweet but sharp of character, reminds me like Joop and Jil Sanders style of fragrance, but the Asian mid east Oud gave encounter a nice exotic appeal but the other notes gave this guy a very westernizes chic style too it. I cant say its alpha male or sporty type, its very night style and I can see this being worn in a night club and in a office if your comfortable in having presence in the office because the patchouli, spices and oud gives that assertive tone to it but the sweet notes gives it a modest mood to the fragrance but not in a lazy way or dull way, it has that sweet lively assertive male spirit to it that is charming to be around. If you enjoy a light, chic , modest with a whisper of exoticism or borderline androgynous kind of a perfume,I say this because im honest, I imagine wearing this too ,because I have a sense I smelt this before in the 80's. Its a good buy if your into the metrosexual style of perfume but I don't recommend this to macho like guys unless you want to soften your alpha stud energies to chic modest gentlemen, its a good buy for you or a special someone .

Upon entering my favorite drugstore this afternoon, greeting me was a large display of the newest perfumes. Of course I had to stop and smell the 'roses.'. I am right handed so automatically started with the 1st perfume closest to my hand and height (I am 5'11" in heels). Just happened to be Calvin Klein's new frag ENCOUNTER. Didn't even glance at what else was displayed. So I went thru my routine of 1st spraying a business type cardboard sample, give the liquid a moment to settle and then close my eyes and take a deep sniff. I then determine if the scent can proceed to my wrist if I am to take it for a test run (unless I can get a sample to take home). Yes, I am aware that a Parfum needs the time to develop on my skin before my final judgement so this is just an indication if this is going to sit well on my drive home. ENCOUNTER swiftly made it to my wrist. As I start to inhale this sexy scent, I look at the rest of the shelves guests and it is at this moment that I realize that this is supposedly a man's fragrance, although it is not indicated on the bottle or box. Well played Calvin Klein! I decide if a scent is for me; not the gender indicated on the bottle. My body chemistry is the last ingredient added to any perfume I wear, so the result is my own personal creation. ENCOUNTER + ME = SLY SEDUCTION. How? I borrowed an existing 'male scent', already created to please a man's olfactory sense, and secretly entwined it with my essence. You will never really know what hit you.

Dang! Wish I hadn't slept on this, it smells superb. I had been searching for this for a while and really didn't want to blind buy due to the mixed reviews, amazingly today I stumbled upon it in a perfumery which I don't often visit. I spritzed on the back of my right hand, waited a few seconds then sniffed but I could hardly smell anything. I then went and tried another fragrance on my other hand then left the store. Around 10 minutes later I sniffed my right hand again and...Wow! Such a beautiful smell! I was instantly reminded of something then it hit me (no not the boomerang I'd thrown earlier!), Encounter reminds me of the fantastic CK Obsessed for men Intense EDP released last year, though this one is lighter with less amber and just more toned down in general. I suggest people watch the stylish video advert above as to me this fragrance fits with it perfectly, the premise is a close encounter between a woman and a man on a dark rainy night. This seems/seemed to be CK's answer to La Nuit de l'Homme and 'The One' and I think it's as good in terms of scent and performance is similar too (ie soft with average at best longevity). I don't get how anyone could actually dislike this but hey we're all different I suppose. I'm now on a mission to track down a reasonably priced bottle of this subtle and alluring elixir, perfect for those special encounters (now I just need some of those :P ).

What a fool I am!!!! Yet another retraction of my original review...I have to blame a poor nose that day but this came across as boozy and repulsive on the card. How wrong I was and how many times must I have a knee jerk reaction to the opening of a fragrance. I was surprised to learn that the nose behind this fragrance was non other than Pierre Negrin the guy behind quite possibility the greatest triumph in male focused perfumery EVER!!! Of course I'm talking about Interlude by Amouage. I thought I'd missed something even when I wrote the initial review all I can say is my nose must've been shot that day because the opening to encounter is fine and not overly anything! It dries down to a really lovely and different scent which for me sets it apart from the usual bland designer rubbish...but only slightly so don't get carried away! Sweet, but light a little reminiscent for a moment of Mont Blanc Individuel (despite not sharing common notes) but there's something to what I'm saying....honest! This is not a full retraction because I don't love it Furthermore, although this is woody and has odd composition, I don't really get a lot of Oud myself.

Went to two different Macy's for the last two days just so I could test this out. Here's what I think Scent: The rum and cognac were all I could smell for the first 10 or so minutes, but they smelled damn good. After the first 10 minutes, I could sense the mandarin orange (not bad) and the oud (nice!). This part of the scent was very elegant and sexy. At its base, though, all I could smell was a sweetish musk (kinda boring) and there was a substantial lack of complexity. Projection: Didn't really get a feel for it (I was in the cologne section of the Macy's and so my scent was being drowned out) Longevity: Garbage - i got maybe 2 or 3 hours the first day and only about 2 hours the second day. I'm hoping it's just because my body chemistry was off or the weather was whack Overall: I'm disappointed because I was REALLY looking forward to this one. The scent was a little underwhelming (not bad since the initial blast is great, it's just that the dry down is lame) and the longevity was poor. I'm going to retry this guy once it becomes more ubiquitous and see if my perception changes.

Encounter is like a medium size choir, perfectly balanced so that no single voice shouts above the rest, and yet each individual voice can be heard clearly as part of the whole. There are notes of sweet liqueur (cognac, mandarin-flavored rum) to be savored along with peppery jasmine and spicy patchouli, while the low voices bring the depth of oud, cedar, and musk to the ensemble. The mind and the nose flit back and forth: Is this woodsy? Is this spicy? Is this darkly sweet? Yes, it is. All of those thing, all at once, interwoven. There is very little (if any) separation between "top notes," "heart notes," and "base notes" here, even though it is definitely layered and not linear. It doesn't project far. It doesn't need to, because that's not the kind of fragrance this is. Instead, it remains subtle, but it lasts for many hours. It's almost impossible to believe that the same designer also launched "cK one Summer 2012" and "Eternity Summer for Men 2012" in the same year.

I smelled this yesterday at Macy's. Of course "they didn't get any samples", so couldn't take one home, and my hubby already was wearing TdH, so trying it on would have been a disaster. On the card, it smells very good. I didn't know it had oud in it, and I believe it's the first frag I've ever smelled that does have it. I'm not sure what oud smells like. I can say that it smelled completely different from any other CK I've smelled, so maybe that is the oud. Either way, I liked it on the card very much, and will probably buy it for my hubby. It did seem like it's fairly strong, but that was on paper.....who knows on skin. Will try to get a sample.

I've been wearing this scent for over three years now- I have to admit, I never fell totally in love with it but it was a fragrance that would fit to most occasions. It suited my style and for that it got the job done. I was in my mid 20's: studying, travelling, all in all I didn't took life too serious. I liked the scent alot and I even got some compliments but times change and, simply said, I got tired of it. I just tried it today and compared it to some new purchases. To me this cologne smells just like soap, I get a very little note of cardomon but that's it. Also the performace is nothing you would look for- very poor projection and sillage.

Just had to add this about "no longevity." I mailed a card to a lady friend earlier this week. I sprayed the OUTSIDE of the envelope on the back with Encounter. Two sprays. I don't typically do this, but wanted to see if she'd notice. She got it about 4 days later. She mentioned how much she liked the card and whatever cologne it was that I used. No, paper is not skin. But the batches of Encounter I've owned aren't nearly as awful in the longevity department as some here have made it to be. It may just be one of those scents that is easy to go nose-blind to. Put the bottle inside your shirt , sprayer to your chest, spray 10-12 shots to your chest, letting your shirt trap the atomized scent as much as possible. With the Reveal trapped thus between shirt and chest, it will last as long as possible, and all those sprays a re no problem since the juice is not potent at all. It will smell best this way because you can actually smell it for half the day or more. It really does smell nice and you will get compliments if a lady or two get inside your personal space.

I received this in a trade. :) Smells really good to me. I like the spicy edge on the top and the booze rolling in at the drydown. The cardamom made me think of La nuit with a snifter full. Then I got ghosted by my scent. Brief. Nice bottle and cap. It would be even better if the top was symmetrical. It goes back in place on the first try half of the time. This one has potential. I will try to spray more than usual to see if I can make it last a more than two hours. I like it, but it could also very easily be a dislike for abysmal longevity.

Hate to hate...but this fragrance truly is awful. Again...I'm not one to jump on the bandwagon, this is only my opinion and evidently peoples tastes vary massively but for the life of me I will never understand the attraction of overly boozy scents. It's saving grace is the drydown if you can get past the initial unpleasentness it gets a little better...but not much. I generally like CK fragrances across the board, this one might be a brave departure in perfumary terms but I'm really not feeling it.

I am shocked at how many people dislike this fragrance, I think it is a great scent! It starts off with citrus and cardamom, which is nice but it's the warm, sweet and wood drydown which is absolutely beautiful. Encounter is the first male fragrance I've loved enough to buy myself a bottle. I like to spray my wrists and occasionally I'll spray it on my clothes. It lasts around 3-4 hours on my skin. Overall, an excellent fragrance that is soft, warm, sweet and subtly sexy. I highly recommend!

An interesting one! Dark and mysterious. First, it's a blast of cardamom, mandarin and booz notes. Then, the oud appears slowly in the background (nice). It's a nice spicy, woody and boozy scent. this one has moderate longevity 6 hrs and good projection with 3 sprays for the first hours. It's not very versatile, I could see it could be worn in office lightly in colder times, but great for dates nights. It fits the older crowd 35+. so 6/10, I even recommend it!

I really don't get the hate with this one. Its really a nice scent, smells dark, sexy, boozy and dirty. The Oud is there but is not main player of Encounter, so don't expect a lot from the oud. To bad the performance for this one falls short. 4 hours of longevity on my skin and 2 hours of good protections. But overall is a nice scent, not that generic like I expected, way waaay better than Gucci Guilty collection and Gucci Made To Measures. 2.5 out of 5

I have this and the fresh variant but they are night and day (quite literally). I'd recommend this for night time use, and the fresh version for daytime/office wear. Lasts average on my skin but a spray on clothes (shirt/scarf) is good for helping it project and I would highly recommend this as it burns off way too quick on my skin. I would say good but not essential, it is pleasant and stays close so I'd say a good safe bet for dates.

Minty & mature. I've never smelled cognac or rum, so I can not judge on those but CK-E smells like minty woody amber. Very mature & formal. It reminds of DKNY Be Delicious for men. Same green sharpness, which is, unfortunately, very generic. I love the opening a lot but the drydown truly is generic. What makes things worse is the poor sillage & longevity, that apparently has plagued all of Calvin Klein's fragrances. Like & pass.

I really like this one. I too find this one dark and mysterious. I was surprised that it came out fairly recently, as it reminds me of the uber masculine fragrances of the late 80s early 90s. On me, it is strong and lasts long. definitely a night scent for me or perhaps daytime in the cooler months as well. If you like really masculine, boozy/woody/aromatic scents, this will work for you.

A nice Woody Spicy fragrance with Rum and Cognac Theme. Boozy, Warm and Classy. This is perfect for the cool weather, Nowadays it is rare and hard to find. It opens up with semi sweet fresh spicy, boozy and spices notes in the background then dry down is musky woody. I'm so happy that I have it in my collection and I really enjoy it. Longevity is Average. Rating : 7.5 / 10

Lets be honest, its a decent fragrance. I enjoy wearing it, for the price it's a rather nice boozy woody masculine scent. But, the huge turn off is obviously the performance. Longevity is poor, 1-2 hours if ur not going very hard on the sprayer. Sillage also is poor, it's basically a skin scent straight away. Scent: 7/10 Performance: 2/10

ACTUALLY MAKES NO NOTHING UNIQUE, IS COMMON AND JUST NICE. UNNECESSARY, MONEY THROWN OUT. WHAT WAS CALVIN KLEIN? THIS PERFUME IS A LIE TO EARN MONEY.
