Troupe

Inky and kinda stinky was the opening testing this fragrance blind. It had just enough musky sweetness (or something) to keep it fun and interesting and not off-putting. At times I get sweet rubber tires, Skunkor (the toy He-Man toy), super cheap cherry wax lips, and a host of questionable activities from years past. Kinda feel there must be leather or something in there, but it smells more fitting for a latex party. As the day stretches out the soft leather becomes a bit more apparent and it leans more woodsy overall, but it still keeps a mushy funkiness swirling around in the background. Looking at the name and notes now, I don't know what kind of troupe this is but it must be the unwashed hair variety (the costus) that is making things interesting, mixed with the cetalox and the leather and a bit of the oakmoss. While the woods are more noticeable later, everything else is only suggested as being there. Tangerine, and others are not easily identifiable to me. While there's a warm leather woodsy thing hanging around waiting for the after-party, the fun is mostly gone before the end of the day. While it's a fun fragrance, and I kind of like it, I'm not sure if it's just it's novelty I like. Or I just don't get invited to those kind of parties.

Capsule Parfums seems to consistently belong to the “Fuck Yeah” school of perfumery: loud, unapologetically dark & bitter, built like bricks. Brood was an ultra-bitter leather; Troupe is a smoky, resinous piney-woodsy scent, kind of like that Russian pine-needle tea. It has a turpentine bite that I love, and the magical smell of freshly cut wood. Underneath there’s a waxy smell, rather like the drydown of Zibeline, sweet and butter-smooth like kid leather or the waxed floor of a ballet studio. I expect there’s iris in there. Probably unisex; if you’ve ever fantasized about the Siberian taiga you’ll like it.
