Caribbean Joe

What a steal this fragrance is as I purchased this for only $7 ( including shipping on eBay) To describe this scent I'd say this a very fresh, smooth,green out of the shower scent that has a slight aquatic touch in the opening and heart and a nice little boozy touch in the base from the rum. I wasn't much expecting much because of this but this stuff is great! Now on to the big question of whether this smells like Cool Water and GIT. The answer is yes !!! In the opening this bares strong similarities to both but once this dries down it goes more into the direction of Cool Water. When I first smelled this I immediately thought this was a more smooth,slightly more sweet version of Cool Water and the way the greenness and slight sweetness came off I thought this fragrance had green apple but I guess the extra greenness came from the pine and/or seaweed. Performance on this is both good and bad. It lasts 4-8 hours (yes it has sketchy performance) but only really projects for 45 minutes before it just turns into slightly more than a skin scent. I do wish this had the projection that Cool Water did as if it did I'd pick this over Cool Water. Overall rating --- 7.75 out of 10 ! A great out of the shower scent that smells amazing and just based on scent compared to GIT, Tres Nuit, Cool Water and Aspen I'd say just based on scent this would be my second favorite scent out of the bunch. Also because of the price of this this this would be a great gift for anyone and especially teenagers as this is a very hard fragrance to overspray.

I was looking for a aftershave balm ( I have a habit of finding the best for the price/quality, at least to me) and this CJ came up with a 30 ml edt to the price of 5 £. So I had to try this out. Anyway I could always give the edt away. This was a 100 % blind buy because of the aftershave try out. I sprayed once on my upper hand and Within sec to my pleasant surprise I could smell something absolutely Gourgous. At first I was stunned and looked at the bamboo bottle. Was this GIT? For a moment it had the smell of GIT or some Cool Water'ish. It's now been 2 hours and the smell has toned down I would say to something more musky. It's a great scent and for the price. It doesn't hold the wounderous first impressions, but it's still an ok casual scent. Just bring, a sprayer if it fades.

1 Feb 2015: nice, uplifting, somewhere in the middle of citrusy and aqua. non-sweet. lasts for 4-6 hours. it sits close to the skin after about 2 hours. the glass bottle is nicely crafted, taller than usual and is a collector's item! from the carton, it appears that the perfume was launched in 2012 by Brand Matter LLC and is made in the USA. Update 5 March 2015: It shows close proximity to Davidoff Cool Water during the first half an hour or so.

Top Notes: Bergamot, mojito, coriander leaves Middle Notes: Lavender water, rosemary, geranium Base Notes: White rum, sea moss, amberwood, musk The mossy green translucent bamboo shaped glass bottle is interesting. The cap is a matching translucent plastic screw top that requires about 1/2 turn to secure. The sprayer is matte gold and of decent quality. The nondescript beachy natural wood themed box houses a well-thought out white cardboard scaffold protecting the bottle. On opening the box, I got a faint whiff of citrusy lemon-lime hanging in the air. When I sprayed it, I expected something limey and coconutty based on the packaging (I hadn't yet found the notes), but instead I instantly thought of 3 colognes: Green Irish Tweed, Aspen, and Cool Water. It seemed quite sweet and the citrus is not front and center, but rather supportive. I enjoyed the scent and got 4-5 hours before it became a skin scent from the one spray I did on the back of my hand. When I got home, I made up 4 cards and blind tested my ability to recognize each of the above scents by spraying equal amounts on a card, mixing up the order, and guessing the scent. After guessing all 4, I then repeated the test once more. Finally I unblinded myself and checked my answers. I got all 4 right on the first pass. On the second pass, Carribean Joe happened to be first and I incorrectly guessed it was GIT, but then when GIT turned up, I instantly recognized it and changed my answer, so I did get them all correct on pass #2 as well (just fooled for a second). Differences: GIT is sweeter & brighter in the opening, CJ has more citrus in the opening and slight rum which strengthens on the dry down, Aspen is dryer, and CW has that sea accord and more woods with a quite different opening that becomes more similar on the drydown. CJ is definitely not a clone of anything, just in a similar vein, especially in the opening. And rating them in order of my preference: GIT>>CJ>Aspen>CW Bottom line: if you don't have GIT, Aspen, or CW and you see a bottle of this for 10 bucks, it might be worth checking out, or conversely if you love these 3 scents and want a new variation, you might want to check it out. If you try it, I'd love to hear what you think. Overall, it is definitely a keeper for the price and I'm happy with my blind buy.

Cooler than Cool Water. Kicks Aspen, too. Shockingly nice variant on the GIT theme for a drugstore price tag. Caribbean Joe is undeniably a more relaxed take on Green Irish Tweed. Of course there are differences, but the resemblance is easily evident. Imagine a 2018 GIT (my last bottle) without the powdery iris an anchoring ambergris, but with a bit more emphasis on lime and mint -- that "mojito" vibe. It's actually a joy to wear, but only in warmer weather. There is a strange and not-so-good "cologney heat" that comes off CJ when it's cold -- something that just screams cheap cologne to my nose. Which of course it is -- but if deployed appropriately during warm weather, it really is a very pleasant stand-in for the pricey Creed original. Longevity is short. Projection maybe arms length or a bit more. Sillage probably not much, as it really doesn't evoke comments one way or the other. But then I wear scents for my own enjoyment, not to impose my tastes on others. I love GIT but I don't think it's worth the price any more, given all the truly good alternatives out there. This is not exactly like GIT, but a carefree spin on the theme. I really like it regardless of price -- which just happens to be stupid cheap. What's not to like?

This is okay for the price. It actually smells really nice, refreshing and crisp but there's really nothing special or unique going on here. It actually has more of a somewhat manly after-bath splash vibe to it than a cologne. But if you like lime in a fragrance, try this! It's really inexpensive and something you can throw in your bag for the gym or the beach. Longevity isn't so great. Neither is sillage. But hey you get what you pay for. You shouldn't pay over 10 bucks for this though. I won't be repurchasing unless I see it in a discount bin at Ross or something for, like, three dollars. *Note: I'm kind of saddened that Carribean Joe didn't put more effort into this fragrance. I haven't tried their others but I'm assuming they're variations of this. It's a shame because they have a really cool name. "Carribean Joe". They should have tried for a Virgin Island Water type number or a Tommy Bahama (the original, not those sucky "spin offs")

The reviews here, I find pretty accurate. If you've smelled Green Irish Tweed / Coty Aspen then you already know what this smells like. The only real difference is the price. This is dirt cheap but performs as well as the previously mentioned scents and honestly, on a blind test I'd be pushed to notice much between them. GIT always comes out on top with these comparisons as it has that added extra and changes slightly throughout its life on your skin. It's the best for sure. As much as Aspen and Armaf Tres Nuits mimic the scent well, they both smell a bit harsher but Caribeean Joe is smoother than both of those and sweeter on the dry down. If you're into that fresh green smell then you should definitely pick this up and save a bundle of cash. I've tried and own all of the above and they all have that same 'fly spray' opening but I'd put CJ as a close second out of the four.

Oo La La....an aqua mix of light spice and citrus that is very nice. Do not let the price fool you because as you can see in these reviews you will see alot of comaparisons to Cool Water. I can see some common notes but my nose points more to a Tommy Bahama scent but that my friends is a good thing. It is a vacation in a bottle with some palm trees and beaches in the background. I envison my self chillin on the beach when suddenly a group of natives come charging at me with bow and arrows pointing at me. After they take a closer look and smell my scent they smile and invite me back to thier village for some cooked pork and mojitos for dinner. That is the power of Caribbean Joe after I am trippin balls. Oh the scent is good! 8 out of 10

Get this online while you still can. There's a new version available on stores with a transparent/blue bottle that looks a lot like the Nautica "sail" bottle shape. It is NOT the same stuff. Not unpleasant, but the older version as pictured here is worth every penny of the $9 it will cost you :)

I got this the other day - the bottle is amazing! The first initial smell once sprayed was the smell of bug spray or tropical mosquito spray. Then i could smell the mojito like crazy! but thats pretty much it for me. It was ok for $45AUD Smell: 5/10 long.: 6/10 bottle: 8/10

cheep as chips and worth every penny ,same as armaf tres nuite and cheaper .and very close to creed GIT .

I found this for a steal of $9 at ROSS anyway a Cool Water or Aspen knock-off... Maybe a bit more softer and marine... ya it was O.K. if your in High School...

Re-Posting my review as it's no longer showing up in the chain for some reason. Doing it again now as Mr Smelly has featured this on his best cheapies list and I'm hoping I don't get as much stick as when I first posted it. Firstly, I used GIT since 1996, so know it better than any other frag I have ever owned or used. CJ is a half decent clone of vintage GIT and is still pretty close to the newer, post 2015, GIT Batches, albeit, its got none of the depth, richness or complexity of the OG. That said it DOES give those around you, who are not frag heads, that in air/wafted scent trail and 'oh your'e wearing CW/GIT' type of reaction. I can confirm this as GIT was my signature scent when my kids were growing up and my son said he always thinks of childhood and the house being filled with the scent of GIT when he smells it and he said 'Your'e wearing GIT' when I tested CJ for the first time. But how about side by side comparison I hear you ask? Well they are obviously different, as NO clone is going to replicate the OG 100% . The verbena/green citric opening of GIT s not even remotely the same as in CJ but the opening is pleasantly smooth and the green citrusy notes not floor cleaner or furniture polish like at all. The main thing for me though is the mid and dry down (from about the 15-20 minute mark) is where CJ really shines and starts to really resemble Vintage GIT. It does help though that I always found the peppermint/sandalwood accord in GIT to be the standout accord in the dry down and i do get that with CJ, its almost like an After8 mint but creamy not chocolatey. Most folk ignore the mint accord in GIT but its always been there to my nose and Creed have even started to list it as a note in the GIT profile on their site. The note list above is out of date, but thats no biggie. Anyhoo, CJ is dirt cheap but to my nose a better alternative than CW/Aspen/Tres Nuit or the myriad of other more expensive GIT clones and a safe blind buy for anyone who wants a GIT vibe. Edit: As of July 2019 'Clear Chemist' have a CJ gift set with 100ml edt, 150ml shave balm and 150ml shower gel for £5.64 inc p&p!!

For the price, this is really a nice and uplifting scent. Sure it smells a lot like a powdery and mellowed down version of Cool Water, but what's wrong with that?Perfect for daytime and office wear, spring and summer and for sporting. For this price you can apply is generous, sillage and longetivity are also excellent. I have a bottle the whole year around, and don't ever want to be without, for those days or moments I want to refresh and smell nice without too much effort. The funny thing is I get compliments on this many times, which I normally don't get with higher end colognes. So try it if you get the chance, or blind buy this: for this amount of money you really can't go wrong!

This is a relatively transparent copy of the Davidoff Cool Water fragrance that itself owed much to the influence of Creed’s research and development team from whom they lifted much of their inspiration. That being said, while there are a few very slight nuances to this compared to Cool Water, to most wearers they will be negligible. This is basically a transparent lack of creativity by Caribbean Joe, with almost all the R&D money going to the creative bottle design over the juice. Buy this for the packaging if you must, but it’s not worth much consideration if you are seeking out an original fragrance.

Picked it up at TJmaxx for 4.99 for 1.7oz smells exactly like cool water and last just as long on my skin so for the money, it was a total score. I blind bought this after reading the reviews, very good buy. Projection is moderate too heavy and lasting effect is 4-6 hours.

Update, projection is more towards 2hrs and longevity is more towards 4.
