#122 of My Fragrance Journey - Carner Barcelona La Playa: It doesn't smell like a beach. It smells like the hour after. The sun is already dropping. Salt is still on the skin. Air is warm enough that fabric feels optional, everything softened at the edges, the light going golden without being dramatic about it. That's where this fragrance lives. Italian lemon and orange blossom come through first, but quietly - like light catching bare shoulders rather than anything sharp or bright. The citrus never quite arrives the way you expect it to. Already diffused, almost creamy, as though skin has been wearing it for a while before you even notice it. The orange blossom keeps it from going sharp - softens the lemon before it even has the chance. Then coconut milk and pistachio, and this is where it gets interesting. Not edible. Not playful in that obvious tropical way. More tactile than that. The coconut carries the memory of sun cream but is stripped of anything synthetic or loud. The pistachio brings texture - warm, softly nutty, slightly salted by proximity to skin. Together, they don't make a statement so much as set an atmosphere. There's a difference. A lot of solar fragrances try too hard. They flood everything with sweetness or white florals or tropical excess, and the whole illusion collapses under its own weight. La Playa never pushes. It seems to understand that seduction works better at lower volumes. Vanilla and Venezuelan tonka settle in eventually, pulling everything closer to skin. Warm, smooth, just sweet enough without tipping anywhere near gourmand. The effect by that point is less fragrance and more the trace of someone standing next to you. Salt drying at the neck. Heat still held in fabric. Something discovered rather than announced. Doesn't perform masculinity or femininity. Sits in the space between them and doesn't seem bothered by either label. Which feels right for what it is. Vibe: Salt on warm skin. Cream linen. Coconut, pistachio, and the shadow from a low evening sun. Performance: Moderate projection - a personal halo rather than a trail. Five or six hours on skin, longer on fabric. Fit: Slow summer evenings, open collars, forearms on sun-warmed surfaces. This is sweet, coconut scented sunscreen at first, but soon morphs to have a warm vanilla note. The orange and citrus aspects come out as it dries down, later adding a slight freshness that balances out warmer notes. As it matures, I definitely detect more of the cardamom and nutty vanilla. The name of this fragrance is perfection, and it really does draw you into memories of a sandy beach and the sweet treats offered for sale there. (Pistachio ice cream? Creamsicle?) I'm guessing this is what most Kayali fans wanted from Yum Pistachio Gelato, but didn't get. I own and enjoy YPG, but this is nothing like that. The final scent on me is a nutty cardamom vanilla, with some, but not overwhelmingly sugary, sweetness. The coconut sunscreen aspects fade quickly on me, leaving a subtle lactonic note. I would suggest folks who enjoy photorealistic summer-evoking scents and vanilla gourmands give this a try. This has that beautiful, integrated complexity that keeps me religiously trying every Carner new release. I'm not sure why or how this fragrance house consistently churns out bangers, but IMO, they do.

Shocked by how much I like this. A sweeter tropical sunscreen profile than something like Tom Ford Eau de Soleil Blanc, so not redundant with others in my collection. This is much closer to a unisex version of Alien Goddess by Mugler. It's an attractive fragrance throughout all stages, sweet without being cloying and has incredible longevity (I was doing a side by side with Tom Ford's Eau de Soleil Blanc and also testing out Sospiro's Vibrato and Dolce Melodia. This fragrance outlasted them all and had great projection, which I was not expecting whatsoever). Immediately bought a full bottle (along with Vibrato). Going to check out other fragrances from this house now.

At the opening La Playa feels like a delicate coconut-cream gelato with a subtle citrus twist, as if a slice of citrus fruit is lingering somewhere in the background. It’s a soft, delicious and inviting start. The cardamom doesn’t stand out prominently, but if you get close to the skin, there’s a whisper of a gentle spice that adds a cozy touch to the fragrance. As it settles, the scent on my skin reveals creamy coconut with a hint of green pistachio and a fine, slightly powdery sweetness from tonka bean. It’s a lovely, delicate, slightly gourmand scent, like a sunny day at the beach with an ice cream in hand 🍨

Is La Playa similar to other beachy & sunscreeny fragrances I’ve tried? Yes. Is La Playa better than any of the other fragrances I’ve tried in this category? Also yes. Is this full bottle worthy? Yes. I love this. It’s the most beachy fragrance I’ve had the pleasure of smelling in a long time, or ever. I highly recommend sampling it if you’re into this type of fragrance! It turned really powdery on my skin in the best way— it smelled of bright sunshine on a hot beach and sunscreeny baby powder. It is a more elegant and refined version of most sunscreeny fragrances in my opinion.

I find it so strange that I like this, not my typical profile. Also, I always expect from these tropical scents to be nauseating, but no, this is cool. I still wouldn't wear it during the day in peek summer, but evenings will be blessed with this one. Citruses are peaking through and after 1-2h when they dial down we are left with an interesting coconut, its the cardamom and nutty richness spicing things up.

This is really nice! I went to the shop on a lunch break and tried this, could not stop smelling my arm. Very summery, not cloying, has this sunscreen sweetness, but it was not overly sweet for m. The dry down is leans musc with coconut for me. I am not a big gourmand fan lately but La Playa hit a sweet spot for me. Instant love!

This is the most coconutty summer fragrance I’ve tried, not synthetic at all. It’s smooth with the nutty vanilla, but so fun and fresh with the florals and the citrus. Very well balanced. So many compliments. Lasts decently, moderate sillage.

I am coconut lover. I tried many. This is TF but smoother and more nutty. My love is Mugler alien Goddess. Is reminds me also the 7 virtues coconut sun. But coconut sun is salty. Its quite long lasting. My new favorite coconut fragrance.

Been eagerly awaiting the arrival of La Playa after getting a tester (and looooooving everything about it). This does not disappoint! I live in year-round warmth (for the most part) and extremely close to beautiful sand and ocean. I consider myself super fortunate as it is not something trivial; lots of vacationers visit my town - and backyard - as a luxurious holiday. So this scent evokes a similar feeling, of being in my now-grown up backyard, except across the pond in the Med. The perfume house is based in Barcelona and I get that, completely. Off the rip this juice exudes the pleasantries of such a gorgeous (and historical) city. Very contemporary in its execution. I have been wearing it since 8am and I plan on living in it throughout the weekend. Sand and lemon juice are the first things I get. The coconut is juicy but not overly sweet. It dries beautifully into an extremely wearable, ultra-posh sunscreen. For some reason it brought back the nostalgia of early-2000s Ibiza Hippie despite sharing almost zero notes. It is just a familiar feeling, as though Ibiza Hippie is now fully grown up but is just as beautiful and captivating as ever. Will be wearing this throughout the summer, maybe only on weekends at the beach and pool. Gorgeous!

It's pretty much suntan lotion, straight up. A nice scent on its own, sure, but nowhere near worth the 200 euro per 100 ml price tag. It should aim at a-bit-more-fancy drugstore body mist level, tops. That said, it's mid to weak on the skin where longevity is concerned, BUT what was left on my jacket sleeve (from testing it on my wrist) has made my hallway VERY fragrant for a long time. More intriguing that way than as a perfume, hm.

very familiar scent not because you smelt the perfume before but because it smells like you are quite literally on holiday🏝️🥥 🍋 🍊it’s like wearing summer on your skin after an hour or so you can really smell the cardamom which makes it nice for the evening aswell as the daytime I do think maybe this could benefit from being just a little bit sweeter only lasts a few hours but that's fine in this case

I like it and wear it a lot this summer but I don’t 100% love it. I think it might be the combination of the lemon, pistachio and cardamom what smells a bit weird to me. There is some green coconut, vanilla and creaminess, but I don’t think this is a gourmand and there isn’t much sweetness.

It's a very pleasant, summery scent. It feels just like just walking into a beach, feeling the warmth of the sun and the salty breeze. Magical.

creamy milky and slightly minty

On me it turns out plasticky pretty quickly. Can’t say I am smitten. Also I think it has been done before, it reminds me a little of Borabora by GDT.

This smells exactly like ouai st barts body mist, so the price feels outrageous. I guess the longevity of this perfume is better than st barts 🤷♀️

This smells too synthetic and I was expecting much more. Disappointing

I had been very curious about this perfume for quite some time. Most people describe it as a summer gourmand, and since I'm usually very picky when it comes to gourmand fragrances, I wasn't sure what to expect. One thing worth mentioning is that the official notes listed on the brand's website are not the same as those shown by Fragantica. According to the brand, the fragrance features Italian lemon and orange blossom in the opening, coconut milk and pistachio in the heart, and vanilla with Venezuelan tonka bean in the base. On my skin, the opening is dominated by the orange blossom and lemon, creating a bright and sunny introduction. As the fragrance settles, the coconut milk becomes more prominent, enhanced by the creamy sweetness of the vanilla and tonka bean. Together, they create the impression of enjoying a coconut ice cream on the beach on a warm summer day. Performance is moderate in my experience. The scent has a moderate sillage and lasts around 5–6 hours on my skin, which I find perfectly adequate for a fresh summer gourmand. Overall, this is a very pleasant and easy-to-wear summer fragrance that manages to feel gourmand without becoming overly heavy or cloying

La Play-doh....on my skin, the pistachio is giving an odd almond like nutty vibe that just doesn't blend well with the coconut.
