Accord 119

This was my first "expensive perfume" purchase about 3 years ago from writing this review, so I've had plenty of time smelling this fragrance. Also, I own the extrait and the EDP. The EDP is my favorite. The opening in the EDP is a stunning, sparkling, effervescent, ripe blackberry. This opening lasts for about an hour or so and then the jasmine blends in and takes over for sweetness. The heart is a nice jasmine and patchouli scent. The patchouli is cleaned up but smells antique (sort of like a library is the best way I can explain). The patchouli is always present from open to drydown. In the drydown it is pretty much a peppery patchouli with a tinge of sweetness. Extreme drydown is straight up peppery patchouli, no sweetness. The scent is elegant but casual. I feel perfectly comfortable wearing bluejeans and a nice blouse with this perfume, or a cute dress. When I wear this fragrance I like to think that if Janis Joplin were still alive this would be her signature. I imagine her wild hair tied back with an expensive silk scarf. The extrait smells just like the EDP but the opening blackberry is flat and it only lasts a few minutes. Be careful applying the concentrated juice, a tiny bit goes a loooong way and if you apply to much it smells like straight up cellophane. I feel the EDP wears best during hot weather. The cold weather doesn't let the amazing opening flourish, which is the best part of this fragrance IMO.

I was in Paris and went to Caron to purchase some Tabac Blond and tried a 'new' perfume.. I fell in love with this and gave away most of all my other perfumes because I wanted to wear this every day. I have never loved such a fruity perfume before; as I age I cannot wear so much wood as I loved before and this has been a perfect scent, though it doesn't last long on me.

Berries do grow on the skin when you put on Accord 119. I feel like a walking blackberry tree.. Nice! Pick some Taste some I have plenty on my arms For you and your mom Nom nom Nam nam Sweet, wholesome and tasty I dare you not to love me (Parfum, 16 hours) -AB-

Utterly gorgeous and well deserving of the Caron name. I would not change a thing about it!!!!

Code 119 is very sweet, yet impeccably well-blended. Patchouli in these style of fragrances (think the newer Miss Dior) always tends to make me feel ill, but it didn't here, so I'm giving kudos to the perfumer. Here, I get predominately a sweet blackberry, combined with an earthy patchouli that has been tamed by the warm amber. I don't get much else, as all those beautiful florals have been crowded out by the above, from start to finish, which gives the perfume a heavy feeling. However, this is one of the best fragrances in the fruitchouli style, in my opinion. It's elegant and tastefully done. Dries down to a musky scent, but it's fairly linear on my skin. Strong to moderate sillage after the initial application, but faded to a skin scent after a few hours. Longevity was 5-6 in total.

The "sexy antique" scent is spot on! Somehow this fragrance feels like sheer beige satin on your skin. In the middle, I mostly smell patchouli and vanilla, but the gentle animalic notes, mixed with powdery undertones, truly make this fragrance delicate and sensual. There is a sweetness of vanilla sugar underneath it all. I get a lot of amber, but not so much cassis (may be in the opening)

Beautiful. Like lying in a bramble patch that has been warmed by hot sun, seeing sunshine through the tops of the pine trees and with a dusty, peppery, musky smell of dried bracken in the background. If I put my nose really really close to my skin I get a tingle of sweet vanilla. I have a tiny sample that I'll treasure until I can get my hands on some more...

This is an interesting autumn/fall fruity fragrance, ideal for everyday use. Its longevity and sillage are descent. It's quite pleasant to the nose. Nostalgic yet modern. I like it.

Thank god I didn't do the expensive blind buy. This is sweet sweet sweet fruit. Not fermented ripe dried fruit but berries with a bit of patch and musk for depth. That's it. No floral. Caron. Dissapointed in you! This smells like other cheap fruity musks I have owned and even like Guerlain's entire Petite Robe series. Grow the F up and stay true. The attempt at luring teeny boppers but this is the wrong name for a scent.Accord 119? I expected something classic and amazing. Something maybe oud. There is NO chypre in this.I did end up with a bottle after all because I got it for a steal. I like it more on second wearing. It is fruit with lots of musk and I can smell the green in the base. But, still not like Caron. I like it but don't love it. In the summer it smelled like vintage peaches.

To me, Accord 119 smells like a Caron but a lineage strain I don't love: the rich, mature, atmospheric plastics of Infinity (1970), Nocturnes ('81), and Lady Caron ('00). In contrast, the Carons I adore are the sexy antiques: Tabac Blond ('19), Nuit de Noel ('22), and Farnesiana ('47). It's just a matter of what you want out of your Caron.

when I was little and lived in the Soviet Union, this is how male alcoholics smelled when I passed them by on the street - disheveled and having applied a cheap Soviet chypre cologne to cover up their bad breath. Or perhaps, having drunk their cheap chypre cologne? Why would anyone on earth want to smell like that?

To sum up a general description of this scent, L'Accord 119 is strange, beautiful, beguiling, and addictive. It smells cohesive and complete, yet at times, it smells undone and full of possibilities. If I could associate another perfume to describe A119's style, I would say Bond No. 9's Chinatown smells something like it with its berried notes and that herbaceous coriander like note surrounded by sweet oriental notes, although A119 lacks the round heady notes of tuberose, a pure note of jasmine can be smelled at times. The scent is so well blended that it is abstract in the purest sense of the word. You don't know where the scent really begins or ends, though I wouldn't describe it as linear either because it pulses or vibrates in its own classy rhythm. It is contradictory because it smells simple yet refined and sophisticated. It's a great scent for any day of the year because even though it has presence, it's not smoky or heavy. There is a spicy note, but it's not exactly pepper to me. It smells more rich and not dry. I dare to say it can be a unisex scent in the way Chinatown is described as unisex. Even though it may be floral in an abstract sense of the word, its scent identity comes and goes in a riddlesome or enigmatic way. All I have is 1-1/2 sample vials of this beauty. I hope one day I could own a full bottle and I'm sure this can be a possibility through patience since Carons are not readily available in my area. Just like how I managed to get a bottle of Parfum Sacre Intense, I just have to wait. :*(

Ooh yummy! I've been waiting to sample this for a very long time, and the wait was well worth it. Opens with a 'burnt fruit' vibe, quickly transitioning to a fat, jammy dark berry. It then mellows out to a tart, woody base, perfect for a more festive environment. Is it a throw back to old school Carons? Nope. But here I don't care, 119 can stand on it's own as a darn fine submission. It has the 'perfume' vibe going on, meaning it's not a smooth to me as the classics, but when compared to what's in the stores versus what's on my shelf, this clearly stands out as something more sophisticated. Fraysee likes his sweet notes, and if you're not careful 119 can get really loud. I prefer just a few dabs to the chest area and allowed to 'breathe'. Wears linear, not changing much, and longevity is impressive. Jasmine is heavier than I"d like, and the woods a bit 'scratchy'. You can tell that this scent is playing to a younger audience. Nevertheless, this is quite good. Fans of plum notes would do well to take note.

I love fragrance but I dislike this with a passion - it is so overwhelmingly medicinal and plastic that it actually made my poor husband feel violently sick in the car - I have never worn it since. Its very scratchy in the vanilla with screamingly loud, very overpowering jasmine which may have been improved with the addition of aldehydes IMO , but it has that terrible soapy sour note so typical of Richard Fraysse in the dry down -its not one to wear in a car or in enclosed spaces . (Fraysse has ruined En Avion in reformulation with that soapy dry down- sacrilege indeed) Anyone who wants an almost full 30ml EDP can let me know - no box - I don't normally part with any of my collection but this one can go- it was bought from the 1st batch ever produced - I was so anxious to own it - but I bought it un-smelled . A headache in a very lovely bottle - not for me , sorry.

Accord 119 opens with a green woody, chypreish note and then the vanilla and jasmine kicks in and it smells similar to the opening of Shalimar for a few minutes. I was waiting to see what would happen and then the next time I smelt my arm it had all gone badly wrong. I got a strong smell of stale urine and body odor mixed with a camphorous cleaning fluid antiseptic. This juice smelled exactly like a not very clean nursing home. Arrgghh! Just unbearable sour, awful mess that I had to scrub off and scrub literally I did. I wish I could have smelled some of the nice things that others did, but it was not to be.

@gjilchrist thank you for your very helpful review. i too love the sexy antiques, nuit de noel and tabac blonde are some of my all time favorites and nosegasmic. now i absolutely HAVE to try farnesiana. i already know i will love it, as we seem to have the same exact taste in caron lineages :) as for this one, now i know i can definitely skip it. i was already skeptical because the notes aren’t really my bag, but notes can be misleading. your review seals the deal. i wish more people listed their preferred and disliked perfumes, especially from the same house, in reviews. i find it extremely helpful.

that`s awesome,gorgeous,bewitching,charming,it touches and then captures you,wrapping up ur body and mind into floral-fruity summer bouquet!I do really love this frag...there are everything that i wish to see in a men fragrance one day!Sweet and juicy Blackberry,crispy cassis leaves,delicate and sweet vanilla,the princess of white flowers sensual jasmine!and that wonderful flower-heliotrope-which i know how it looks like,but never smelled it before...but i`m pretty sure i love its flavor!So i wish everyone samples it and have in her collection!))))

I LOVE this unusual but modern scent. Mixture of blackberries and rose, musk and heliotrope. It is not a simple scent, but complex, elegant and expensive. Longivity is excellent! Another masterpiece from Caron!

Reminds me of unboxing the Blueberry Muffin doll I had as a child - powdery, nondescript berryish and that slightly sweet smell of new plastic. Not a fan.
