Bellodgia Extrait

A golden-red flame flickering in the boundless darkness illuminates people's hearts with the faint light and heat. Bellodgia is the candle that serves as the focus of sight in the painting "Magdalene with the Smoking Flame". The boundary between light and darkness lies in the Bellodgia is sometimes distinct and sometimes blurred. Ernest Daltroff loves the harmony of carnations, which are perfect for chiaroscuro. Bellodgia is named after the Italian town of Bellagio. When Ernest Daltroff traveled there with his lover Félicie, in the garden of Villa Serbelloni at the end of the Cape of Bellagio, he saw carnations... dry and sharp pepper-cloves full of enthusiasm, Orris root is occasionally astringent, slightly bitter and cool. The bright and lively Bellodgia reminds me of Opium (YSL) and Fate (Amouage), which were brighter, full-bodied, huge, and gorgeous in the 1970s. The difference is that Bellodgia is beautiful and classic, not as wild as Opium. Sweet jasmine, sour green rose and violet light and elegant powder, jumping with carnations, roses dance very cheerfully, paired with Caron's smooth and delicate vanilla milk base note, Mousse de Saxe, warm musk, spicy floral fragrance like fireworks Exploding like a burst, gorgeous and colorful - Bellodgia is the reference standard for carnation fragrance.

I received a vintage extrait from the 1950s. It was a blind buy, but given the fact I love orientals this was to be acquired because if its history as an early made oriental and the house of Caron. She's a floral soft oriental that whispers come hither. She is not a powerhouse and the spicy cloves opening her introduction is not something for people that do not enjoy orientals and their spicy temperaments. I adore them. Its slightly creamy in a well blended way, notes of her florals pop up from time to time and her carnations are lovely. She's a grand whole than some note driven perfume. I find the extrait intriguing, different from modern formulations and beautiful in her way. Definitely a spring-summer oriental. The carnation and rose are gorgeous. I also tried vintage opium parfum on the other hand to compare. They share most notes with obviously more with opium. I always wished opium had a more floral presence than it did, and I found it in Bellodgia. I'm not saying these two are interchangeable, they aren't. But I do believe this is part of Opium's DNA and evolution of the great oriental genre, and even drugstore classic Incognito. I believe a lot of orientals genisis can be found here in Caron's Bellodgia 1927. Its beautifully done, and should be tried for anyone that loves the oriental genre.

Yes, the original formula is to die for, I have several sealed Baccarat flacon's in varying sizes of the extrait with the largest a 120 ml (4 fl.oz), for me the jasmine shines above both the rose and carnation, actually the pure carnation absolute is rather dull and smells not of fresh carnations but like clove oil and it's also quite expensive. Ernest Daltroff was a genius at blending & modifying florals, the formula for Bellodgia is extremely complex yet it's olfactive beauty wafts effortlessly around it's wearer, I enjoy the dry down with the exquisite rose and slightly indolic jasmine combo softening into the most warm, spicy, ambery & woody mid phase of sandalwood, vanilla and barely audible nitro musk, all components of this early 'Caron' classic are seamlessly blended and indeed evoke sunlit fields of exotic flowers refreshed by the waters of a nearby lake in the Italian alps, I zealously guard my considerable stash/hoard of vintage 'Bellodgia' for it will never pass this way again, most certainly not in it's previous vintage in'carnation's, also like most extrait's and pure parfums I find this wears much better when applied by vapo-spray/atomiser. .The Baccarat flacons are just amazing !!!

A very kind friend I met here sent me a decant of this precious liquid. I owned the toilette years ago before I got into perfume collection and used it all. Then we got house rabbits and I stopped wearing perfume for years. By the time I got back into it Belladogia was discontinued and was impossible to find. This extract version is even more beautiful then the toilette I remember so fondly. It is the perfect marriage of carnations, roses and violets on a spicy bed of spicy cloves and the most beautiful musk. How perfumes like this can be discontinued and forgotten is beyond me. Especially for the overpriced garbage gourmands, and "ethereal" fragrances from China that editors here claim are the new great second coming. Please, 1 ounce of Belladogia would last a lifetime, even if a person was inclined to share some with friends because this is real perfume. A perfume that lasted with very little applied but still filled the room. A perfume worthy of being a signature for life. Nothing will be made like this again which is tragic. French elegance like this will never be repeated and we are poorer for it. Class, elegance. One of the most regal fragrances I have ever smelled.

Hey fellow vintage frag heads! I have an extra bottle of Extrait if anyone is looking. Here is my conundrum! I purchased both bottles from a lovely gentleman whose wife had passed and was a Bellodgia lover. She had the Extrait (2 bottles) a bottle of Toilette as well as a bottle of Cologne. One of the Extraits (the one I’m keeping) has about 85-90% remaining and comes in its original box. The one on offer was sealed until I opened it to test its authenticity. The labels on the baccarat bottles are different so I can only assume from different times/batches. The juice is the real deal just a bit darker on my keeper bottle. I e read a number of articles regarding Bellodgia through the years but still am not entirely sure of age for either. I have not set a price on the available Extrait so PM offers. The goal is to basically recoup my spend (which was nothing close to some of the retail prices I’m seeing) and make sure a fellow Bellodgia aficionado gets this lovely Extrait!
