Carthusia Lady

I adore Carthusia in general and I won't make an exceptation in this case. Carthusia Lady is absolutely delightful! It seems to be an old school chypre, I agree. Nonetheless, it is a beautiful flowery scent after a minute: a strong opening blast comes into soft, elegant and very feminine fragrance. There is a huge difference between testing on paper or on skin. The second way reveals the warm, spicy and a bit woody aroma. It is perfectly balanced with rose, lily and gardenia (and others). Lovely, rich and luxorious perfume. The disadvantage could be that it is polite, intimate. I prefer this way, personally, but it is a question of attitude. Also, it smells almost natural to me: far far away to low quality, commertial crowd-pleasers. The price is legitimate. This Lady has a noble character.

Carthusia Lady works better now that the weather has turned humid and cooler. In summer it was sour and unpleasantly soapy It smells like a huge bouquet of various flowers now. There's sweet peach, warm spices and some woody elements there too. The abundance of floral notes is massive. I can best detect lilac, lily-of-the-valley, ylang-ylang, rose and carnation. The scent is harmonious and vividly alive. Oakmoss and I think patchouli gives it earthy undertones. Oh yes, I ❤️ CL, it's an interesting addition to my modest collection of floral perfumes. It was a blind buy (I stumbled on a bargain and took a risk.) which turned out successful.😃

This puts me in mind of being surrounded by plants and flowers in a beautiful botanical garden in Brittany, where the sea is not too far off. . . . or it could be a Mediterranean island blooming with a profusion of wildflowers. Delicate and fresh with a certain salty air, but also resinous and mossy, lush and slightly fruity. A beautiful kaleidoscope of contrasts.

Lovelier and nicer than I expected, I am elated with this recent, full-bottle, blind buy!! I owned and loved "Terra Mia." But a blind purchase of Carthusia "Tuberosa," was a miss. "Carthusia Lady" opens as a lovely, ethereal, fragrant and bouyant, mixed floral fragrance. Laden with many white and yellow florals, the opening notes are perfectly blended, gentle & soft. To my senses, the opening is downright beautiful. In the opening I detect cyclamen, lily-of-the-valley, soft lilac, gardenia, jasmine, some rose. The iris lends a soft, powdery, floral note. The middle development is spicy cloves along with further spiky florals. The emergence of carnation, geranium and violet leaf add an air of lightness at this stage. The base is a lovely array of oak moss (love), vanilla, sandalwood, musk and lots of gentle florals with hints of clove. I like this perfume. Unlike many mixed-floral fragrances, the florals remain throughout and straight to the end. Given its notes, Carthusian Lady is light, slightly creamy, soft & gentle. This perfume is NOT a huge, beast-mode, floral bomb but a gentle floral whisper. Nothing makes this fragrance scream sweet, or juvenile. CL sits close to the skin and performs as a gauzy, light-weight ethereal fragrance. I'll use what I have. Not certain I'll repurchase.

I do agree with this being from almost another era! It started with a wonderful powdery combination of iris and peach, I did get a slight dust and lipstick vibe. The heart brought out the soapy rose, together with musk making this truly similar to perfumes from the age before. It did resemble Guerlain's MITSOUKO at some point, it had the same green almost nut like crispyness and hardness. "Lady Carthusia" is a marvelous scent if you're into old school chypres. Even though it does appear heavy at the opening, it settles really nicely on the skin and isn't a power fragrance in any way making this an excellent choice for everyday use. You will get the oldschool classic vibe, but won't walk around radiating the scent miles away (wich is the case with most of the old school power chypres). Staying power was around 6 hours, which is a slight downside for this kind of scent, but given the subtle elegance found in it's silage, I'll forgive to Carthusia. Price wise - 92 EUR/50ML - does seem a bit too high.
