Fiori di Capri

To describe a perfume of great class is very difficult. But in one word wow! This perfume is top class. It has some very nice notes. And every great perfume keeps some surprises until the end. Can you compare it with some other perfume? Not that i know on the first hand. It opens with a nice tone of gardenia's. I see I'm the first here to notice it, but that is because I have some Gardenia plants and know the smell. It is one of the most mysterious scents there are. Surrounded with Ylang Ylang and tuberose and bergamot it is very prominent In the dry down to the middle some floral,and spicy notes come through. Honey, iris and cloves are noticeable and give it a nice move. Then in the end the incense takes its place in the spectrum of notes as very noticeable together with cedar, musk, amber and sandalwood with the accent on the musky sandal. And still it keeps its secrets hidden. This perfume is wonderful. It is a real masterpiece without comparison. Wow just wow. It is something thats accompanies you in specials and formal occasions. If you read the ingredients you will see its very natural. It is really something very special.

This was recommended to me yesterday by my favorite SA at my favorite perfume store, The Perfume House in Portland, OR. It is gorgeous! This lady knows her customers. It is pretty, very feminine and pretty, and it lasts forever on my skin. Side by side with Apres L'Ondee (which I bought, yayyy!!), it lasted more than twice as long. In fact, I am still smelling the faintest hint of the dry down 16 hours later! Much quieter on the skin, but a warmer happier scent than my melancholy AL'O, for sure. This is supposed to be all the flowers of the Isle of Capri. I get carnation, lily of the valley and MIMOSA. It's not listed in the notes but as this gets to the heart, it bears quite a resemblance to one of my absolute favs, Champs Elysees, my favorite mimosa scent. It has a "yellow" feel to it, like the warm sunshine on Capri. Unfortunately, it bears too much resemblance to CE, which is my go-to scent when I need a reminder of sunshine and happiness, so I can't see buying a full bottle. But for those lovers of warm white florals that last and last, it would be a great buy. At $75USD for 50ml, it's niche at a great price, too.

If this perfume was really launched in 1948, then it's not possible that it was created by Laura Tonatto, a contemporary perfumer who wasn't even born back then. So, either the year listed above is wrong, or this scent was created by someone else. Anyway, this is a phenomenal retro fragrance that evokes memorable flowery symphonies from the past. Other users below were reminded of Arpege, 24 Faubourg, Rive Gauche and Champs-Elysees, but what I'm actually reminded of is L'Heure Bleue, because of its strong carnation and hyacinth notes, with iris also thrown in the mix. Aside from carnation, which is the star flower here, the strongest note in Fiori di Capri is the enchanting lily of the valley, with a sweet tuberose also lurking not too far behind. The perfume boutique where I buy my fragrances offered a 50% discount on all Carthusia perfumes, and you bet I was the first in line to snatch this beauty! I bought an EDT, rather than an EDP, because it is crisper and less powdery. I cannot wait to wear it during the long, warm summer days.

Delicate lily-of-the-valley open up this wonderful creation to make way for a slightly powdery and spicy carnation which eventually settles into the base notes of sweet amber, woody notes and Ylang-ylang. This perfume is impossibly beautiful in every way! She is elegant and classy and utterly delectable. She is the Italian version of Chanel No5 minus the harsh aldehydes and minus the difficulties which make No5 so hard to wear. I would say this is a sweet & powdery fume which has that delightful vintage feel to it. I cannot get enough of this outstandingly gorgeous lady! I keep inhaling my wrist continuously and marvelling at the beauty of the well crafted and well orchestrated notes. Silage is pretty impressive, about 2/3 feet and the longevity is good but not outstanding. I would say about 6 hours. I didn't think that I would like Fiori, I thought it would be too vintage for my tastes but I simply adore it!!

This is a wonderful "old-fashioned" perfume. Not "old" in the sense that only your grandmother would wear it. It's a young, charming, and subtle scent; old-fashioned in the sense that when I wear it, it's hard to tell that I'm wearing anything at all. And it is carefully fashioned. The top notes hit right away and fade almost as quickly. The base notes are very quiet. I usually avoid patchouli because it tends to go "skunky" with my body chemistry. Not this one, I can't even tell it's there. So what I'm left with is a soft amalgam of strawberry, carnation and a hint of the spices. The sillage is on the quiet side. It is definitely in the long-lasting catagory. Definitely something to wear in the spring and maybe into the summer, if your idea of summer is lazing in a hammock with Mediterranean breezes blowing.

Oh wow, this smells exactly as the older Anne Klein Blazer perfume! (the Helena Rubenstein version) It's spot on with the opening notes. (The reason why I mention the comparison is that I did find an original bottle of Anne Klein Blazer on ebay a few months ago.) I ended up buying a sample of this from Lucky Scent to see if it was similar enough to Fiji. (Which is one of my all time favorite fragrances of all time.) I can already smell the classic floral chypre, within the first five minutes. It also really reminds me of 24 Faubourg, with the citrus notes, carnation,hyacinth and amber. I really hope to see how this turns out in about 30 minutes. If it stays as gorgeous as I think that it is, chances are that I am going to buy a bottle if this!

If you've visited the charming house of Carthusia on the isle of Capri, and been enchanted by the abundance and lushness of the island's flowers and the pristine sparkle of the Tyrrhenian Sea... can you still be an unbiased critic of their perfumes? I'm not sure I can be. When I was there a few years ago I felt like I'd fallen under a spell. I loved Fiori di Capri and Mediterraneo, their Sorrento lemon fragrance, and chose to take home the latter. Living then in south Florida where it's always summer, it was a great choice. I’ve just received a sample of Fiori, and it's as stunning as I remember. It's both enormous and delicate, sweet and spicy, intense and elegant. If I can't return to Capri, this is next best thing. Full bottle ordered.

Subtle, complex florals of quality that from initial spray to dry down illicit the bright morning, working day and exhaustion of evening as the life of a woman/flower. A man with leather jacket, a smile and the confidence to wear this is the most dangerous thing your precious little heart will ever know. The woman from L'Amore wears this.

This is one of those fragrances you will wear and love regardless of what people will say. More than once I heard from young, college-aged students the phrase "old lady", maybe I was a little too young to wear it but what was I supposed to do? Wear Britney's perfume? Of course not! I could and would wear this every day. It's lovely.

I have an empty bottle of the EDT I got in 2004, sucked dry to the last drop, long, clear, lovely with the baubo siren on the logo and the back top and I still open the cap to smell the sprayer. How I miss this fragrance. You have no idea. So, so beautiful. One day I will have it again.

Pretty nice floral perfume. Feminine and powdery, crisp and delicate. I get lots of gardenia and iris out of it. Am I the only one who thinks that this fragrance is VERY similar to 24 Faubourg, although Fiori di Capri is a little bit bitter.

My husband loves this scent on me. We tried on all the various scents while visiting Capri. As a natural perfumery fan, this does smell a bit more chemically than the original. It does a beautiful reaction with my personal chemistry.

Profumo raffinatissimo, fiorito leggermente aldeidato. Classico, elegante e senza tempo. Mi ricorda molto Arpège.

What a glorious floral perfume it is!!! Beautiful!!!! So full of flowers and woods, it's absolutely heavenly!!!!

The first one minute or so is heaven-like. I would pay more if Carthusia could hold on to that top notes.

Not a linear perfume, but very complex. From the bottle, it smells very cologne-y. As I wear it, after the initial citrus blast, I can definitely smell the incense - which I like but also reminds me of an Italian church. I don't think the fruity notes are noticeable, but the honey is definitely there, making it sweet. The dry-down is the best: smells like a vintage bar soap in the best possible way. For this reason, I wear this as my "clean" fragrance, when I want to smell soapy fresh. It's a creamy white floral perfume and I clearly smell aldehydes, which I personally like in my fragrances when I'm looking for a soapy scent. Luckily I don't smell the tuberose. It smell vintage, yes, but doesn't smell old - this is not a scent profile I associate with grandmas. If anything, it smells feminine and coquette-ish, like a fancy soap in a luxurious hotel. It also smells very natural and makes me think of a beautiful countryside. I don't think you have to be a certain age to like this. I am in my 30s and this is the Carthusia fragrance I decided to bring home with me (and I'm not huge on florals). I have a 25ml bottle and it doesn't have a sprayer like the bigger bottles: projection and sillage are very subtle because of this. A bigger bottle with a sprayer would be a better option if you want better performance. But I don't mind the weakness as I like to wear this for myself and to use it as an "after shower" scent due to its soapiness. Would make a perfect wedding scent in my opinion. Edit: a few days after this review, I decanted the fragrance into a cheap sprayer bottle and the projection improved tremendously. When sprayed, it's actually that strong that you can literally spray it in the air and walk through the cloud of fragrance, and it'll stick on you for hours. Try that if you are frustrated with the projection of any dabber fragrance you have!

Carthusia's FIORI DI CAPRI is a bright, somewhat sharp and slightly green bouquet of primarily white flowers (lily of the valley) bathing in a vase of amber-saturated wood. The opening is unabashedly floral, and I have to agree with another reviewer that, although FIORI is claimed to be unisex, it would be very challenging indeed for most men to wear such a fragrance. I bought the 2oz edt as a souvenir when I visited the isle, so it's all bound up with memories of the bright blue sea and sky. Today, on a late afternoon filled with frozen rain, FIORI di CAPRI is somehow reminding me of the film PLEIN SOLEIL (Purple Noon), perhaps the most sizzling thriller ever to be set under the blinding mediterranean sun. (The Hollywood attempt at a remake [THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY], as usual, does no justice to the original!) There is definitely something daring about this scent, something brash and unapologetic. Something beautiful but at the same time edgy...

I got the 10ml miniature and applied using finger to my pulse points, and as expected the top notes very very heady with ylang-ylang and other white florals but fret not because the headiness will disappear within 15 minutes or something and the middle and the base notes is something that I waited for...it was soooo yummy and creamy it has this huggy feeling. Never in my life wearing floral and experience the best middle and base note ever! Since this is a chypre floral so I thought that must be it. Also the longevity is eternal (and it should be for a niche). pros - very long lasting, amazing creamy yummy huggy feeling middle & base notes cons - very very heading opening (so apply sparingly)

An enormous cloud of mixed flowers, none quite taking the lead, all hovering in a cloud of oakmoss and white musk. Although Fiori di Capri shares many qualities with its vintage contemporaries, the musky base has a particularly clean, buttery quality that feels right at home in the contemporary world. The overall impression is one of a luxury bar of soap, and your milage may very depending on your tolerance for soapiness in perfume. As for me, I enjoy the languid fluidity of this airy bouquet, which possesses a heat-friendly lightness despite its wealth of potentially heavy notes.

Mmm... a glorious floral of old school persuasion at first sniff -- aldehydes provide a luminous soapy effect with hints of lemon. Bubblegum florals that aren't saccharine sweet start to surface: ylang ylang, gardenia, tuberose and iris in a blend that could capture a youthful spirit. Plum and pineapple add to the fresh floral sweetness -- juicy without being tart. The finish is soft but strong like a sweet velvety carnation with a touch of orange blossom lip gloss. Fiori di Capri is a charmer for those who who lean toward modern retro florals.

I've been wondering what it reminded me of until I saw this page: yes, Rive Gauche! It lacks the distinctive metal tone and powerful independence though. Rive Gauche is for sophisticated metropolitan women in sexy pencil skirt while Fiori Di Capri, as suggested by the name, is for elegant and laid-back women in white linen maxi dress. To me it doesn't smell cheap in any way yet nothing original. Just a beautiful scent which I'd be very happy to receive as a gift but would never pay £50 for a 50ml bottle myself.

Its Summer is Fun is great is stylish is old but new and smells great. Has problems with longevity as it lasts around 3 hours but as a summer parfume you will not regret it having it because smells so great during heat. Its not entirely unisex i could say leans towards Women and also smells Mom, i cant rememper but my mother was using Fidji and L'air du Temps it smells exactly like one of them but with a more luxurious way. Scent: 9/10 Longevity: 3/10 (below average) Sillage: 7/10 Price: ok

Opens as a soapy floral heavy on the orange blossom and lily-of-the-valley. After a while the carnation surfaces, but sharpened quite a bit by the LOTV. The floral scent is extremely persistent, staying around for over 8 hours, after which it turns into a light floral-musky skin scent and goes for another 6 hours or more. Not being a lover of florals, this is not for me. However, It’s a long-lasting, well-made, conventional floral for those who are interested in the genre.

Intense initial floral burst, I smell mostly tuberose. Drier with time and a tiny touch of amber, after 4 hours, very close to the skin and also an old school powdery floral vibe as well. Clean subtle soapy. It’s very day time elegant. I could see someone wearing this on their wedding day in the spring.

A beautiful, rich, complex fragrance. It has the quality of a classic perfume; I understand why others call it vintage, but it is an all-timer rather than an old lady’s perfume. I wish the opening (a hundred fresh flowers, a meadow in bloom) lasted longer.

Beautiful white sparkly floral . No aldehydes so it's not as soapy . The carnation note in this gorgeous . It has a hint of sweetness nothing cloying or synthetic. Very delicate and elegant.

What a Strange fragrance I will agree with a lot of my peers it is complex But the question is Is the complexity on the good side or the bad one I think it was ok Yes the first 10 minutes are majestic Then it changes ever so slightly if you don’t concentrate or give it any thought you won’t feel it After the second or third hour it dies down Becomes more powdery and tame Maybe detectable by others but mainly my nose wasn’t getting it all that much The complex nature of the scent wasn’t impressive it was ok It leans feminine and doesn’t project enough

This perfume is a nice floral vintage perfume (complex floral, it is a mixture of yellow, violet and white flowers). For woman and more for spring or summer, I smell real flowers, perfect for all ages, elegant touch on it. The sillage and the longevity are excellent. Not powdery or vanilla to my opinion, it is a very floral scent. Vintage vibe, a bouquet of flowers! 5/10, not so fan of tuberose

It smells decent, my friend got this for me when they went to Italy last year and she just gave it to me for my birthday. I definitely don’t hate it but I will also not be wearing it, like ever. I do appreciate how much depth there is in the scent tho! It’s a cool gift since she didn’t really know me too well then.

One of the most complex florals i have smelled. The first 10 minutes are the best mix i have ever smelled, you can't pick out one single flower as they are all blended so beautifully. But after that initial period on me the dry down becomes excessivley powdery, traditional 'old woman' ish. 3/5

What, no aldehydes? It sure smells aldehydic to me. I don't like it; it tickles my nose. I smell no amber, sandal or oak whatsoever; just a very dry, boring carnation sneezed upon by ylang ylang and coming together somehow to make a bar of Dove soap. Yes, it smells like Dove soap, and that's not how I wish to smell. It is not sweet, not "warm spicy" and not woody. 24 Faubourg, really? This would have to smell sour for that, and it is not sour. It is excruciatingly bland but manages to give me a headache for all that. So, if you like soapy aldehydic fragrances, you may very well find it elegant, classy yada yada yada. I prefer the indisputably elegant haunt of Houbigant Quelques Fleurs L'Original over this ho-hum, extremely austere floral concoction of unforgivable blandness.

The ylang ylang is overpowering to me. Then came the white florals. It took me to that scent memory when I was young and was about to enter a Catholic Church on a Sunday and there were many vendors selling flower necklaces and bouquets near the church entrance. As it dries in the middle, I get the smell of rubbing alcohol. This lasted for a while, and I'm NOT a fan of that stage. It might be a little "old fashioned" for me... and maybe a little too much? Well, I only think that because this is definitely not in my scent alley. I know other women who can pull this off though, and on them its smelled heavenly.

I agree with MsMaryO - unfortunately I was interested in more carnation and less mimosa. Quite a feminine fragrance.

The only other carnation fragrance I'm familiar with, other than Fiori di Capri, is Fragonard's Billet Doux. The two are very different, this fragrance being much sweeter and less spicy. The scent is very pretty, nothing too out there, but extremely likable. I haven't managed to dislike a Carthusia scent yet. It's warm, flowery, slightly addictive but also a little similar to the scent of an air freshner. To my nose, it's rather classic and elegant, however I've read some reviews classifying it as an 'old lady' scent, which annoys me greatly. I keep wanting to say pretty, because that's the only word that comes to mind when I smell this. I have to agree with Sherapop on this one, this is far too feminine for a man to wear. A crisp floral bouquet of ylang ylang, carnation and lily that does have a touch of powderiness, however it is nowhere near as powdery as Aria di Capri. It can be worn casually and formally in my opinion, and it's something that should appeal to women that adore overtly feminine florals. Unfortunately this fragrance is rather weak on my skin, although it is a fairly mild scent for starters. The lasting power is good, but the sillage leaves much to be desired. I do however adore my strong, almost cloying fragrances, so for many the sillage may be perfect. I catch wafts of amber, musk and vanilla in the drydown which is rather, (I'm going to say it again) pretty, but nothing extremely original. Either way, I like this fragrance, just not enough to fall in love with it.

These are just a few remarks based on a spritz on my arm from a tester. The opening is so beautiful I almost did an immediate dash to the counter to plonk down my credit card. There are so many flowers in there I can't identify but I thought I smelled a little note of violet. Or maybe my brain was playing tricks on me based on the colour of the label. After a while Fiori becomes powdery, and here's where my adour starts to cool. After an hour the fragrance has turned into an old fashioned, rather chaste floral that I don't think I can pull off, lovely though it is. It would be like going to work on the tram wearing a beautiful linen suit from the 1950s and 60s: pencil skirt, short tailored jacket, brooch, heels, a useless but charming little handbag, and a hat secured to my hair with hat pins. So, that's a no from me. A pity though. Those opening five minutes ... my God ...

The top floral notes of carnation and lily are so subtle that I literally thought they'd sent me a vial of water instead of an actual sample. I pressed my nose to my wrist and couldn't smell a thing! After about 10 minutes, the warm incensey spices appeared all upfront. Very nice. Don't get any fruitiness in this at all on my skin, though I get a bit of pineapple when I sniff the outside sample vial. After a half hour, it turns soapy, with a bit of incense. Not much in the way of sillage, very clingy. Definitely not my thing, but nice enough for someone looking for something nice-smelling, decently complex but inoffensive/easy to wear.

For me, Fiori di Capri are the best olfactive description of Italy, the way I emagine it.The scent itself is rich, flowery bouquet, with juiciness of agrumes and spices with beautifull opening on the Italian warm climate.It is powerful, fresh and delicatly sweet.It is not old fashioned, but it has something of the vintage perfumes ( ylang ylang,carnation, hycinth, mousse). I like it very much, and seek it, wear it, from time to time.Very nice,sunny, strong smell which always strikes me as beautiful and for me it is hard to wear anything for a longer period od time.

This one opens like L'air du Temps, Fidji and the likes, that powdery and soft smell. But don't let it fool you, very quickly, the scent morphs into a very lush & voluptuous ylang ylang smell, the one that you can smell in essential oil (it smells like white flowers mix with incense), not the stretchy & cheap ylang ylang usually associate with the ylang ylang note in perfumery. From then on the scent is heavily floral & tropical. A Ylang ylang soliflore almost. Very very beautiful.

I am so terribly sorry, this perfume reminds me of Coco EdT and is probably one of the worst things I have smelled. It has incredible longevity and I just couldn't wash it off my hand! Nightmare! There is quality in the smell but I just can't stand it! Very disappointing unfortunately, ver granny-like in a bad way.

Fiori di Capri Charmingly tender chypre floral. Not loud and may be transparent. Field carnations and forest lilies of the valley. Ilang and sambak. An ambery-sandal base sounds cleanly and coolly. Elegant and tender simplicity.Fragrance for own pleasure. Like a tender silk of elegant pyjamas.

If i would have had a babysitter at the moments that there was none, i would not mind when she wore this perfume. Cosy, kind and safe. Fiori di Capri to me is a loving caring fragrance. By the way, it reminds me a bit of Mahora de Guerlain.

Beautiful flowers. This is a strong, intoxicating scent. It's a cross between a regal, elegant, distinguished woman and a vacation in the South of France. Lovely. But I don't forsee men wearing this. Personally, I think it's too feminine.

My brother got me this while he was visiting capri and I am happy he did! It is a very nice floral scent.Is it my favorite? No. But still it is beautiful and pleasing.
