Gelsomini di Capri 2017

Finally a new release of an old formula that out shines the original. I owned the 2009 Gelsomini di Capri and ended up deciding to trade it. This 2017 version is completely different....in the best way possible. A realistic jasmine with citrus notes opens the perfume — there’s nothing indolic or dirty about it. Ginger and what I think is broom emerge with other notes in the dry down. I believe it’s the broom note that is making others think of bubblegum, but no matter, I love this fresh take on an old subject; jasmine dominant perfumes are usually not my favorite, but I love this one. I don’t get the big sweaty florals (orange blossom, ylang and rose) like I do in the previous incarnation. This ends up being more of an herbal infused jasmine. I’m getting more than three hours of projection. Really lovely.

This perfume really stands out for me, I have never smelled anything like this before. This jasmine scent is nothing like any jasmine based fragrance I have ever owned or smelled, such a beautiful sunny scent. No neroli for me here, at least not distinctly. This smells a bit vintage, not a perfume for a very young woman in my opinion. Very rich, powerful at the beginning, longevity is moderate on my skin. I got many compliments for this. Just a sniff of it takes me back to Capri. I decided to buy two of Carthusia perfumes there and singled Gelsomini first and later also Mediterraneo out of their amazing collection. Great buy. This review is for the eau de parfume version.

This is my partner, Miss Lorraine's signature scent. She discovered it when first visiting the Isle of Capri. We went there together a couple of years back, bought her another bottle, and now have been glad to see that it is easily ordered over the Internet. It is heavy on the jasmine in a way that is beautiful. Miss Lorraine is a girly-girl, despite being in her early 60s. The scent is as pretty and feminine as she is and it just seems the perfect scent for her. Although she does wear other fragrances, this is the one I associate most with her. There's nothing loud or brash about this perfume; it's just pure feminine, floral beauty.

Gelsomini di Capri by Carthusia is an airy, gingery, Jasmine blended to avoid any indolic heaviness. It warms wonderfully on the skin, creating a sillage that feels fresh and clean, never cloying. It is a long lasting fragrance with moderate projection. It loses its luster in cooler climates but absolutely sings in the summer. A warm weather favorite!

This is very interesting and unique. The orange blossom and the jasmine blend nicely. It is very summer. There's something almost food-like about it, perhaps that's the ginger and vanilla. It makes you think about bicycling through Italy in the summer. There's a strange bubblegum accord in here. This has amazing longevity. 12+ hours for me.

I love this. It opens with a lot of ginger on me however it settles down quickly and becomes a lovely, fresh, clean scent with a bit of warmth. It smells like a perfect sunny day. I am nearly done with my first bottle and will absolutely repurchase as my go to white floral.

Did a fragrance fitting and this was actually the biggest winner out of the curated scents. A beautiful fresh floral that dries down to a dreamy, creamy mix of white and yellow florals!

This is a lovely scent for early spring but enjoyable also in summer. Its intense jasmine opening immediately projects you into a sunny garden with jasmine flowers blooming all around. There's a nice balance between the sweet of the jasmine and the bitter of bergamot that I find very beautiful. The middle phase is less strong: orange flowers and ginger enter the stage and start a beautiful duet with the jasmine. This is not a jasmine soliflore scent and even those who are intimidated by the strong power of jasmine here may find a beautiful scent where the white flowers are not so overpowering. Gelsomini di Capri is elegant but not too formal; the ginger, paired with tangerine and just a hint of pepper, conveys a witty touch and gives a new dimension to the composition: sweet and spicy, thoughtful but merry. It's like being on the Capri Island where you are surrounded by beauty, by the flowers but also by the sea with its Mediterranean appeal. Personally I find this a lovely composition with nice sillage and good lasting power. Full bottle worthy.

I think that this is a lovely scent if you like jasmine, but you're looking for something less indolic than other jasmine fragrances in your collection. This is not going to be a bombastic white floral scent. This is going to be a fresh, light floral that is pretty, unassuming and inviting. This is fresh and deceptively light. You think that it isn't going to project or perform because it is relatively subtle in its presentation. In my experience, that is not the case. It has incredible performance but is well behaved. It's not a room filler, but it has enough lift and projection to be appreciated. The vibe of the scent is crisp linen. Or, a nice button-down white shirt. It's very versatile, classic, and elegant.

A creamy, sweet jasmine saturated with lemon meringue and orange blossom, Gelsomini di Capri seems fashioned for the extroverted yet conservative aesthete to wear on a balmy summer day. This is not a jasmine for jasmine LOVERS, and you know who you are. Do not expect ripe, wet, indolic, sensuous or dusky. This is light and lively, fresh and exuberant. I have a preference for the sunny, yet dynamic Le Jardin Retrouvé Jasmin Majorelle when desiring an elevated, warm weather jasmine, but Gelsomini di Capri is well-crafted and certainly wouldn't offend me on another wearer, especially as it isn't a powerhouse. I just like a little more meat and mystery on my jasmine.

I've bought a bottle of Gelsomino di Capri when I was visiting Florence and I'm so happy I did it! Now every time I smelled it it reminds me of one of my favourite cities in the world... It is very romantic and innocent, a blast of white flowers. Not super indolic and it always stays on the skin like a whisper, never shouting. Love it!!

Very beautiful scent. Got it in Capri actually. Smells like summer, fresh, floral. Realistic jasmine scent, different from other jasmine scents I tried.

A jasmine lover here. It was a semi blind-buy - I smelled Carthusia perfumes in a store in Italy, I had great impression of them and loved my discovery set which doesn't include Gelsomini di Capri. I wasn't sure if this was the one I loved back then, but I assumed it was. The scent: orange blossom, neroli, spices and citruses overpower jasmine. I do smell some similarity to Tom Ford's Jasmine Rouge, which I also own, but this one isn't as well blended. My impression after a careful research and reading the reviews was that it would be exactly for me - an elegant, fresh, clean jasmine scent with some added citruses and spices, and I must say that I am disappointed. I get wafts of orange blossom, that I am personally not a big fan of, and warm spices and citruses, with jasmine somewhere inbetween. The neroli note makes it less pleasant for me.

I was hoping this would be a lighter, sweeter scent. But this is a VERY warm, spiced, fragrance. It starts off sweet, floral, and summery. But as soon as it dries down, the beeswax, clove, and rose come in strongly. Absolutely hated the drydown, so this wasn't a good fit for me. Sillage is good, and staying powder is about 3-4 hours.

I received my sample yesterday and immediately ordered a full bottle today. A previous reviewer is correct in defining a bubblegum note. I have always adored bubblegum in fragrances, so of course I'm smitten, but Gelsomini is so much more than that. The company who sent my sample doesn't use spray containers, and when I popped the lid off the tiny bottle, I wasn't sure this would be the one. I was hit by a heavy note of ginger, and while I like ginger, it wasn't what I was looking for in a jasmine scent, and not what I had imagined. Rest assured, the effervescent ginger in Gelsomini is fleeting, and settles into the opaque, yet lighthearted mid-notes within minutes. The jasmine here is a realistic one - the scent you experience while walking by a jasmine bush, not the overly-heady or soapy version that's so often recreated in white floral fragrances. Gelsomini dries down in an almost animalic and unexpected fashion. This is gorgeous, realistic, creamy-sweet jasmine in the height of April, while walking through a coastal neighborhood in California. I've never been to Capri, but I know the scent of jasmine well, and it's been captured in Gelsomini.

This house is so slept on. If you're a jasmine lover, sample this. The dry down is divine. Alas, the opening is too heady jasmine for me. I wish I were that girl, but I like my jasmine softened with other notes.

Realistic jasmin in a fine balsamic cocktail. Very well executed, high quality juice. Very good longevity and sillage. No "Alien" vibes in here, fortunately
