La Panthere Eau de Toilette

(Comparison of the modern EdT and EdP by Mathilde Laurent) Cartier has never truly given much of a damn about their perfumes. They have always been lower priority than their jewelry and watches, but then again they’ve never needed to. When you have the likes of Mark Buxton, Jean-Claude Ellena, Alberto Morillas, and Mathilde Laurent helming your fragrance department you know that people “in the know” are going to be paying attention to what you release. Attention was certainly sparked when Cartier announced they were going to let Laurent “modernize” the Morillas classic Panthere, which had been long discontinued by that time. What Laurent achieved is nothing like what Morillas composed, and, just as curiously, the EdP and the EdT are quite different between themselves as well. The EdT and the EdP open the same way with very sharp, glassy, and sparkling aldehydes and neroli. It smells like inhaling citrusy and metallic glass. They are nearly identical, save for that the EdT smells a bit drier than the EdP - a difference to carry longer and even more strikingly through both perfumes’ lives. They diverge quite noticeably after this. The EdP pushes fleshy, ripened, saturated tree fruits of peaches, pears, apricots, nectarines, and bananas. These are all facades of gardenia, rose, and ylang-ylang with their fruit notes pushed far forward of their floral notes. It is quite sweet, jammy, and thick, but pleasantly so. In the EdT the fruity notes of the florals are far less significant compared to the floral notes of the... erm... florals. There is proper muskiness to the honeyed gardenia and the rose is fleshy and dark as opposed to jammy. Being drier than the EdP, the lack of fruitiness equates to a lack of sugary aromas. In the EdP the fruity side of things calms down quite quickly to let the animalic-honeyed-musky qualities of gardenia be more forward, but the fruits are still there, the starchy tropical banana ylang-ylang holding on hard as well but a bit more texturally than aromatically at this point. The ending of the EdP is more of the gardenia, this time flecking sour, thick and leathery musks at the final skin scent and more of an earthy character (patchouli-like) than the heart. The dry down of the EdT is virtually the same, except, still, drier, focusing still on the musky and leathery side of gardenia and a dry patchouli note. Longevity is as you’d mostly expect with the final skin scent holding on longer in the EdP, but they curiously arrive at their dry down stages at roughly the same timeframes. Whatever La Panthere is, it’s not a panther. There is no dark, slinky, sauntering cat wandering through the tropical underbrush to be found in either of these perfumes. And yes, sure, they are probably a bit safe. Typical. Mundane. But what sets them apart from the rest of the fruity floral pack in the genre is Laurent’s abilities to keep them well behaved. No, they do not smell like a jungle cat, but they do smell the way Cartier’s jewelry looks: full of various colors shifting away in bright light, throwing the rays in various directions with their myriad of fruits and florals. That is the best trick with La Panthere in both versions: its minimalism is somehow quite complex when all of the spectrum-bleeding light waves are overlayed with each other. All of this said, I feel that the EdT is better due to its greater juxtaposition of dry versus sweet, fruits versus florals, and textural musks versus the more deadpan-style musks of the EdP. But both are great. Just don’t go looking for anything resembling the Morillas original... or a panther for that matter.

I'm a hardcore fan of Cartier la panthere legere so I had to try this new edt.it has an obvious la panthere gene,one can immediately say that it belongs to that family with it's silky musky gardenia gene but it's lighter,more fresh and airy comparing to the original one so it's more wearable in spring and summer I can't detect much of green or citrus notes as it settles but I can smell some sort of fruity freshness even in it's drydown.it's not too much fruity but I can feel traces of pine apple and unripe pear which are very pleasant and give the overall musky floral scent a fruity,shampooyee undertone I thought I'm not going to add it to my wantlist when I first applied it,but now I see that I can't stop sniffing my wrist.it's such an easy to wear also classy scent,soft and great for office wear specially in warmer days Longevity is really good for an edt but sillage is soft to moderate Unfortunately dollar's price has become double in my country so nowadays we must pay an Amouage's price(or any other high quality niche fragrance) for a designer perfume.buying perfume is very difficult comparing to few months ago,so I don't think that I'm going to buy this soft,clean and classy babe اگه قصد خرید هدیه برای یه خانوم ۲۷ سال به بالا رو دارید و دنبال عطری هستید که هم نسبتا همه پسند باشه هم رایحه تکراری نداشته باشه،ملایم و تمیز و فرش باشه،متانت رو القا کنه،برای محیط کار مناسب باشه و رایحه ای شیک و سرشار از کلاس داشته باشه حتما لاپانتر ادوتویلت رو جزو گزینه هاتون قرار بدید ژن لاپانتر اصلی یعنی رایحه لطیف و فوق شیک و گرونقیمت طور و ابریشمی گاردنیا-مشک رو اینجا هم داریم،منتها تو لاپانتر اصلی این ژن با جیر و میوه های خشک و ملس همراه شده و عطر رو خاص تر(کمتر همه پسند) و کمی خشک کرده و سن عطر رو کمی بالا برده،تو لاپانتر لژره با آلدئید همراه شده و حالت صابونی طوری داره(که البته من عاااشقشم) و تو لاپانتر سویر با همراهی چرم و خزه گرمتر،تیره تر،بالغتر و سکسی تر شده..اما تو لاپانتر ادوتویلت که اینجا مورد بحثه گاردنیا-مشک ابریشمی ما،به همراه میوه های فرش و آبدار و تردی روایح سبز،حس و حال جوونتر،راحت تر،خنکتر،تمیزتر,بهاره طور و پرکاربردتری پیدا کرده.البته حاصل کار،یه رایحه زیادی میوه ای یا سبز نیست.،نذارید نت های این عطر شما رو بترسونه،حتما تستش کنید و بهش کمی زمان بدید

Very fresh citrusy opening, with fruity accent. After 30 minutes it becomes less fresh and the chypre is coming out in hand with delicious musky sweet powdery smell. After an hour its high quality light chypre fragnance with that lovely musky cleaness. It smells different on a paper, musk is less prominent and flower-fruity accord is more visible. I see the panther standing for the chypre sharp character, while the sweet musky tone wraps it into a soft fur. I definitely like it and when I want to get myself a floral chypre fragnance, this is a very strong candidate. Edit: Some time later I tryed it again from my sample, but I thought its the EdP. Here is what I thought for a second time trying it. Wow! This is the most seductive, sexy parfum I have ever smelled! It has teasing sweetness, charming elegant flowers and most of all that delicious sensual musk. I have smelled many musc parfums and I can tell this one is extraordinary. It is the best sophisticated sexy to me. Definitelly not for a casual wear. This calls for elegance.

Light Chypre-Floral with Gardenia & Lily of the Valley... First Impression: I just have a travel tester of this, but I've tested it a few times now. At first I though this was nothing like La Panthere EDP - it's much more floral than chypre, and the way the lily of the valley is done reminds me a little of Baiser Vole also by Cartier so I can see why they've been compared. The florals have an airy quality and the fruits read like apple-pear. After Aging: the longer this ages, the more similar to La Panthere EDP it becomes, and the more chypre-esque. The florals take on a creamy honey tone that's animalic, and the patchouli-leather comes more forward. The EDT doesn't have the characteristic oakmoss however, and the fruity tones don't go as jammy as the EDP. This is very wearable, and anyone who found the EDP too strong might enjoy this. I like them both for different reasons. It's a love for me. Enjoy!

I agree with Sirena78. It is beautiful fragrance all around. Floral yet not girly, chypre yet not aggressive or too mossy, sexy but not vulgar. It is for grownup woman, confident, alluring and attractive without putting much effort. Beginning bright and citrusy, then 5-10 min later all flowers pop up. Flowers merge together and I can’t really detect any individually, they are somewhat polished with green notes. I don’t smell pineapple either. It is all well blended into one harmonious serenade. I can see myself wearing it every day or on special occasion. It is not boring and not “loud”. I am sniffing my wrist now and can’t get enough of it. I disagree with someone below who said this panther is toothless and domesticated cat. What I see is a panther lying on the branch of the tree or somewhere on the rock basking in the sun after successful hunting.

Oh my god! Should buy this when it was first launch. I was hesitated due to some negative review on this EDT, but actually, it is very beautiful! I bought this at Isetan at half price (cause the Cartier perfume counter is going to be close soon). Whoa! Such beautiful, flowery version of La Panthere in 50% discount! I had bought the EDP version few years ago. It was good enough to me. Some people think the EDP is so strong, but to me, the strength is just meh. The strawberry notes may turn sour during hot weather. The EDT is without the sour strawberry notes, a more floral version. I fell in love with such heavenly smelling gardenia. And I like the EDT nozzle spray with the metal cap. If I have to choose one only and stay faithful to it, it must be this EDT version.

This is a beautiful perfume. It is floral with freshness to it but not so much so that it is too girly. There is a classy air to this one. It is a grown up scent but not what would be considered "old lady" at all. This is wearable and even sexy but not an in your face sexy. It's the way a sophisticated woman can be sexy. The gardenia and lily of the valley don't come through much on me which i don't mind at all but there is floral with musk and sandalwood. This is an easy reach for perfume that would work almost anytime. I had Tiffany by Tiffany & Co. years ago and for some reason I'm thinking there is some similarity but I can't be certain because it has been so long. This Panthere has piqued my interest to smell others in the line.

This is very classy, an elegant every day perfume in the style of Coco Mademoiselle- not that they smell similar, but they give off a similar vibe. I can smell the La Panthere DNA, and I actually prefer the EDT as I find that the sweet notes in the EDP detract from its elegance- both are beautiful, but the EDT is classier in my opinion. I love the subtle base notes, the patchouli is so well blended and not strong at all, just enough to grant depth and class (I dislike patchouli when it's too prominent), and it plays extremely well with the floral notes. The green notes aren't too prominent either- it's all just beautifully blended and I think this is worthy of becoming a classic.

I bought this on a grey market website not expecting much, but this is so effortlessly chic, while still being an easy reach perfume. And has great projection with moderate longevity. The best way to describe this is a veil of soft musky green notes on top of the most subtle lily of the valley note. It's beautiful and has an airy fresh breeze vibe - perfect for spring! Definitely give this a try if you're looking for something that not everyone else is wearing right now, but still perfectly wearable for everyday. (The leather, pineapple and patchouli are barely perceptible, so don't let those notes scare you if you're not a fan. This is clean and delightful!)

I was just in Austria, in a perfume shop and this was on display and I happen to try it because I’ve heard so much hype surrounding this. Well, it was a keeper for me. I really like this and perfect to wear this spring and not super heavy. I love the fruity floral scent that comes through on my skin. It’s a fresh citrus with the gardenia, rose and pineapple mixed in. I love it truly a beautiful fresh scent and it will not disappoint. Longevity is good and sillage is at arms length. Highly recommended 10/10 Fresh and excellent for spring!!

Beautiful scent. Light, refreshing, and smooth. I bought it for my gf’s mother for Mother’s Day, but now I want my gf to have something from this collection too. Beautiful bottle. I loved it at first sniff, not head over heels intense passionate love, but I’d feel dishonest if I said “I like it.” I didn’t smell any others, just bought this 2.5oz with 15% discount, asked for a gift box(which was beautiful), and left Macys. So I’m very excited to smell the rest of the women’s Cartier offerings one day.

I would never want to be confronted with the choice of "the only one" to keep with me (I love all my perfumes too much to deprive myself of them). I should enclose in a few drops the vision of my future needs, tastes or variety of likes. A difficult task for a single perfume. But it could be La Panthere. Sophisticated and incisive, it dresses without excesses, very unusual. I hope and think it's a perfume I won't see disappearing in the near future, therefore a great competitor.

So fresh flowers and cold lily of the valley.Its fresh citrus soap, expensive smell of clean body.I feel a little pineapple but very soft.Very easy to wear not heavy,elegant and amazing smell.Love it.9/10

One of the best soft white florals. The gardenia is so subdued. The musk is divine in this. It's fresh white florals full of Dew on an early spring day. This is a must have for me!😍😍

So very elegant and well blended. To me this is a lighter easier to wear version of the original eau de parfum. It can also be sprayed more liberally than the much stronger OG.

Ahhh this is lovely. A soapy more fresh version but still sophisticated version of the original. It smells amazing after a shower in warm weather. The bottle is gorgeous too.

La Panthere EDT is not bad and similar enough to the EDP in my opinion, but I like the EDP better. This EDT is lighter and fresher, more suitable for warmer weather and maybe easier to wear for some, but it‘s also a little sharp and less complex. Like its predecessor this is based on a creamy, only slightly animalic musk, white florals and a chypre structure. In addition to that it‘s also quite green and grassy, which I assume comes from the lily of the valley, a note that often ruins perfumes for me. It could be worse in this fragrance (or better, if you look at it from the perspective of an lotv-lover, I guess), but it‘s definitely noticeable in this. The fruity notes and rose are rather fresh and tart in here. It all boils down to personal taste - if you enjoy green florals and especially lily of the valley, this will surely work as a lighter version of La Panthere. If you, like me, especially loved the warmer fruit notes in the original and are not into green florals, you‘ll likely not fall in love with this.

This is an incredibly feminine fragrance. I picture a graceful woman who is accomplished in life — 25 and older. It’s elegant, soft, and has that airy, aura-like quality. It sits very close to the skin, almost weightless, and people around you won’t really detect it on you; it’s a very intimate kind of scent. Unfortunately, its longevity on my skin and even on clothes is about 30 minutes, after which I can’t smell it anymore. I went through a 2 ml tester in just one day. It’s disappointing, because I find this composition truly beautiful. I’ll be trying other versions of La Panthère, since the DNA is so gorgeous. So if you do buy this kind of fragrance, I’d say it’s only for your own private pleasure at home, or for very conservative settings like the office or the theatre, where you don’t want to overwhelm anyone and prefer to be respectful to those around you. — Catherine Gruzdeva

I had forgotten I have this, so glad I picked it up as I've been craving a sweeter, modern chypre-style floral with a touch of fruitiness- a la PDM Darcy, Diptyque eau Capitale, Chanel Coco Mme; a modern take on the classic patchouli-based (not the traditional oakmoss-based) feminine chypre: enter, the lovely Cartier la Panthere EDT. Don't let me be misunderstood, each fragrance I listed smells very different from each other. But they all scratch the same itch, all lovely iterations of feminine patchouli without any heavy gourmand touches. I adore the pineapple here, it really stands out among crisp florals and petrichor. Florals which are NOT laundry. NOT suffocated by vanilla. Pure class in perfumery.

The first time I tried this I could only smell acetone. Had to scrub it off. Tried it again, and I still get that acetone opening but it morphs into something light, airy, sweet, and fresh. Not sure if my nose changed or what, but it's proof that you can't one and done fragrances! It doesn't pull very citrusy on me but instead remains very LOTV forward. The sandalwood adds a nice creamy base as well. This really grew on me the more I smelled it. Unfortunately the longevity isn't there for me, but I could be going anosmic to it. Would be a good choice for work, but I think there are enough other frags on the market that have a similar vibe and perform better.

This is so beautiful. I am obsessed with it since my first sniff of it. The gardenia and musk, as the two most obvious ingredients, together with jasmine and lily-of-the-valley, create a hue of white flowers while the green notes bring freshness to it. It reminds me of flowers, not flowers blossoming, but flowers almost going to blossom in the early morning with dew on their petals. And they grow not in the spotlight of people or garden. Instead the bushes of flowers grow quietly and secretly in an isolated and deserted corner of the garden, only blossom for a moment as they do not need any admiration of others to enhance they immortal beauty.

An airy, pretty, and green flowery chypre (mostly LOTV) with a fleeting topnote of bergamot. The "greenness", florals, and musk stand out most to me- but a ripened pineapple note is present when you put your nose up to it. La Panthere EDT has a soapy, super-floral twist (cool). While it does not smell like Coco Mlle itself, it is the same basic principle possessing the same universal likeability + versatility (all seasons/occasions). The cat face in the bottle is gorgeous as well.

The EDT feels like vintage elegance in a modern silhouette. The opening is sparkling with grapefruit and bergamot, but it’s the floral heart ... gardenia and lily of the valley that gives it that refined, old Hollywood glow. The leather and patchouli in the base add a cool, stylish bite that keeps it current. I love how it balances grace with a little wildness, it’s timeless but not tame. – Bhavna Darira Chesan

My favorite chypre floral! So well rounded.. On my skin I get Lily of the valley (flowers with all it's stems & leaves) after the rain, bergamot and musk the most. Sophisticated, sparkly, fresh... Champagne for lunch, please! :) P.s. I did notice over time, since I wrote this review - the more it has been macerating, the stronger the pineapple note becomes. It changes in different seasons!

The initial notes are vaguely floral and smell like a lot of department store perfumes I've smelled over the years. Not that it's bad, but the first impression didn't jump out at me in a special way. As it starts to dry down, I am definitely getting strong gardenia notes and a bit of rose I think. It does seem to last a pretty long time.

It is a fresh and nice gardenia scent which reminds me of spring. Gardenia is no doubt the main note while the greenery notes are also obvious. The bottle is such an art and it fits so well in your palm. It is a scent that will never irritate and offend others.

I love the Panthere Eau de Parfum. The Eau de Toilette smells nothing like it. The EDT has a strong rose scent. It lasts a long time and and leaves a trail. I would wear it in the spring/summer and be light handed with it.

White florals often end up smelling like soap to me but this one has other notes that keep it feeling a bit more fresh and less like my Nana's powder. It may be my favorite white floral I've smelled so far.

I love gardenia but I don't usually like fresh or citrus perfumes- but this one is lovely. It's creamy and classy and bright, but definitely not boring.

An innocuous perfume, but I am distracted by my scent memory of scented toilet paper (from my youth?) which smells almost identical.

sweet, fresh and green like Cartier Carat

I got to test this yesterday, as I was looking for a version of La Panthere without oakmoss in it. (As much as I love the gardenia scent, it looks like its combination with oakmoss is headache inducing to me.) So I tested this based on the notes listed here (no oakmoss apparently), and... I don't dislike this perfume. Far from it. This is a fresh floral fragrance and, at least on my skin, it's quite long lasting for an edt. But the scent here seems a little too sharp and pungent to my nose, and because of that it can get tiresome and, alas, headache inducing. So I think there still must be some oakmoss somewhere in here. Also, compared to the edp, this one seems to be missing something ... Maybe it's that creamy quality of the fruit and white flowers that the edp has. But, of course, there's no accounting for tastes, and lovers of floral-green fragrances might like this edition more than I do. I find the bottle even prettier than that of the edp version. I just wish I liked the juice inside enough to buy it...

I only get pineapple if I overspray and even then, only be the power of suggestion. Without knowing it was suppose to have pineapple in it, it seemed like a citrus floral with that sparkling accord that I thought was aldehydes, but now I understand that's more of everything coming together to be a chypre? This isn't playful and fun, but instead is pretty and pleasant. This is my first La Panthere, and I look forward to trying others. Update from 2021 to 2023: This could easily be a signature scent as it’s unlike anything I have or sampled over the years. It’s green, yes but not like stems or grass it’s more rounded. Simultaneously there is something tart, but not in a fruity body spray way. It’s so contradictory. This is what I wanted Thierry Muglar’s Aura to be. My bottle of that never gets worn, sadly. If you want something unique, but also something most people would find pleasing try this Eau de Toilet version of La Panthere

It’s ok, kind of smells like hairspray to me . I do love the bottle though and really bought it for that reason- it was a blind buy. 5/21/22- wow I’ve got to add another comment about this one! It has powerhouse longevity!! I sprayed my arm with two sprays yesterday around 9 am and could smell it easily on me all day long then went to sleep and in the morning when I got up around 6:30 am I could still smell it a lot- not as strong of course but it was more than just a skin scent- amazing!!

Almost has nothing to do with La panthere perfume. This one is citrus, light, crispy without warmth and charm of it’s mother Panthere.

I used to think this smelled like grassy toilet paper, but recently I've fallen in love with my sample of it. It's a musky white floral with hints pineapple and green freshness. The imagery I would associate with it is wearing a white linen dress and reading in a green field.

Opening is just like bref toilet cleaner :(

I'm probably an unsophisticated nose compared to the many greats of fragrantica but my bourgeois opinion is that it is very similar to Coco Mademoiselle. Not in that they are dupes of one another but, to my nose, are very much in the same lane and share a vibe and this is from someone who's worn Mademoiselle more or less daily for close to a year. But after they turned into the same lane, Coco Mademoiselle found herself a nice parking spot in the shade early on while La Panthere kept going. There's something sharp in here, the same olfactory experience as Coco Mademoiselle in the opening and somewhat in the heart. But where Mademoiselle is flirting with that note, this wildcat is rolling around in it. Though others who smelled it described it as "sweet" I can't detect much of that here. I find this more dry and powdery smelling. 'Powdery' as in the texture of powder, something that almost reminds me of aldehydes I think, but much heavier and nose tickling, like freshly ground pepper. Coco Mademoiselle softens the blow on this quality a lot with fruitier and sweeter undertones, making it more creamy. The EdP version of La Panthere seemed sweeter, but I've not yet tried that one often enough to make much of a comparison. In terms of longevity and sillage at least I can say that the EdT has just as much of a performance as the EdP and should be sprayed with a light hand. La Panthere is daring and very much has a personality. It's the cat to Mademoiselle's dog, the Miranda Priestly to Chanel's Andy. "Dogs have owners, cats have staff". Coco Mademoiselle is a very romanticised idea of a "daring" perfume but ultimately a crowdpleaser who won't go overboard on the barking because, in the end, she just cares too much about being liked. The panther just lies lazily in the sun, watching you and daring you to come closer. And in the end, all that remains for me is to decide whether I'm a dog or a cat person.

im new to the la panthere line & this is my first of their fragrances (in the line) ............i was attracted to the bottle so yes it was yet another blind buy lol but a happy blind buy :) this is one of the better citrus/green/white floral scents i have ever tried !!! its blended perfectly........its light & refreshing...........its not sharp or hard a lot of times when a fragrance has lily of the valley or gardenia they can be a bit in your face strong lol but not in this scent - its very subtle - and im usually not a fan of citrus or green but in this mix its wonderful :) and the bottle design is definitely a plus lol :)

How do I describe it - it's like a slightly dirty fruity soap from high end department store It was an impulse buy at the store and I almost decluttered it, and i'm so happy I didn't. It is so unique in my collection, such a classy, aloof, mature and sophisticated scent. It is a staple now. Longevity is ok, 4-5 hours on the skin, longer on the cloth

I don't know what I was expecting with Cartier La Panthere EDT, but certainly not this. La Panthere is nice... and basically that's it. The boring sort of nice. No animalic associations whatsoever. This is a domesticated, toothless little panther. The accurate name for this fragrance should be Eau de Meh, or something like that.

It was a blind buy for me, as there was no tester and it was 50% off! I love the original Le Panthere and expected something similar. It's a beautiful silky, creamy scent with a beautiful bouquet of white flowers. I can also smell the pineapple! I'm so glad I have it. It will be great for everyday wear.

Greenery, citrusy version of Og. I can still get the DNA of the EDP version but if you think EDP is “too Ioud” I would suggest EDT. This one is more wearable everyday perfume, less offensive. Very smooth, perfectly blended notes, feminine.

I am so confused. I was expecting a light, airy citrus opening with white florals etc... except on my skin this is so pungent it almost makes me gag. It really really does not agree with me. Very disappointing

So clean and crisp. Green and soapy. Smells feminine and classy. Along the lines of Chloe Naturelle and Balmain Ivoire. I haven’t worn this but four times or so and have been complimented each time.

I do not like this one. Although I am huge fan of other Cartier La Panthere fragrances. This one smells like a cheap shower gel to me. I can't yet point out what it is that annoys me in this sent.

So, I am not sure that this one is the Best frangrance I got, but It certanely is unique. I don't get a prominente note, but it works well and I could say it is classy.

A different beast to the EDP. In my opinion a younger more luxurious option to the OG.

too citrusy for me. i have a 75ml bottle that I can let go of for 70CAD
