Passato attraverso il filtro Cartier, il limone diventa gioiello, vetro inciso, luce su metallo chiaro. Il gin aggiunge una vibrazione secca, profonda, leggermente amara. È un dettaglio geniale, perché impedisce al profumo di scivolare nella solita “freschezza”. Porta aria, ma insieme anche tensione. Dona un sorriso, ma non leggerezza frivola. È proprio questo tratto a trasformare un agrume elegante in qualcosa di molto più personale. Le aldeidi sostengono le due note precedenti. Danno pulizia, volume, luminosità. Non sono aldeidi pesanti né polverosamente vintage; suonano moderne, chiare, quasi come una corrente d’aria fresca che attraversa al mattino una stanza bianca. C’è in lui una rara cultura della misura: la consapevolezza che l’eleganza non consiste nell’aggiungere ancora, ma nel togliere tutto il superfluo fino a lasciare solo l’essenziale. Nella collezione Les Heures de Cartier, questa “ora” occupa un posto speciale. Non è l’ora oscura, non è quella carnale, non è quella misteriosa. È l’ora della chiarezza. Dell’intelligenza. Di una gioia trattenuta e trasparente — francese nella sua capacità di non rivelare mai tutto fino in fondo. A gorgeous glistening cologne. The opening of VI is bright citrus, with its slightly sour juice and fresh green peel. This greenness gets blended well with the aromatic green herbs. Within, there are some bright aldehydes and some tiny fresh spices. Around 20 mins, while the citrus starts fading out, the aromatic (and what is labeled as ‘gin’ in the note list) becomes the core, with some floral facets. There is also some warm fluffy musk, blended with some powdery touches on heliotrope and orris. This powder feels of very tiny particles and very thin, just like the other part, all get blended perfectly, with their own merits, but without anyone absurdly standing out. (BTW., yes, the notes disclosed are rather incomplete and way oversimplified.) What VI impresses me most and lifts itself beyond other perfect colognes like Eau de Guerlain, is Mathilde Laurent’s signature transparent style. All notes here are bright and light, floating in the air. This is often done by aldehydes, but VI has not taken this approach. Honestly, I am not even sure how this magical feeling is achieved. Maybe because of those tiny light fresh spices (like JCE’s treatment in Voyage d’Hermès (N.B. only the treatment, as the two scents have almost nothing similar)), or maybe because the synthetic musk and the powdery nuances create a fluffy texture and embrace everything within. Either way, VI is, as the name indicates, brilliant. In my understanding, among the three lux lines, Les Heures de Cartier is more artistic-oriented and allows talented Mathilde to explore and express all her creativity. Thus, they often do not stand out in pragmatic perspectives like longevity and sillage. VI has 4-6 hours lasting power and average projection, which is, however, on par with most cologne. I am usually stingy with citrus fragrances, but this can be an exception. Strongly recommended, especially for citrus lovers. A side note: The name of the entry here is erroneous. As the picture shows, instead of the English word 'Brilliant', it should be the French word 'Brillante.'

L'heure Brillante is genius in its simplicity. The quality is undeniable. An easy but luxurious citrusy scent. This is not a botched up composition. Bravo Mathilde.

L'Heure Brilliante VI is a pleasant, competent scent made from high quality ingredients, but it is nothing special in comparison with others from Cartier's 《 Les Heures 》line. Reminiscent of good-quality citrus-forward scents like Hermès Eau d'Orange Verte or Tom Ford Neroli Portofino, it is both more orangy and green than the listed notes would suggest. VI opens with zesty citrus notes - initially lemon and lime. Radiantly fresh and bright, it is given body by green-tinged orangy neroli and something akin to green-woody petitgrain. The listed gin note can surely be attributed to aromatic, pine-like juniper berries, giving the woody-green quality to the base. I don't get much aldehydic soapiness. It becomes slightly musky as it dries down, aromatically green until final fade. Sillage is moderate and longevity is weak-to-moderate. A pleasant, unisex summer cologne, VI is nicely composed with good quality ingredients, but it is not special or powerful enough to justify the price. (Citrus oils are not expensive anyway.) Hot weather elegance, but at a high price. 3/5.
