Oud & Musc

Typically @rbalkris is spot on in his assessments on perfume. He's my go to reviewer for getting a true assessment. However, either, at the time of his review, his nose was over worked (it happens) or his formulation is different, but this stuff here is fecal. Out of the whole oud lineup from Cartier, this one is a stinker. Oddly enough, I think the stank is coming from the musk and the oud only heightens it. Is this a bad fragrance? Not even at it's stinkiest. For me, it's the dry down that caused me to fall head over heels with this. I've had a sample set for ages and fluctuated between liking this the most or liking Oud & Oud the most. Now I have bottles of both and while O&O has won me over, the dry down (about 1hr) of this always brings me almost similar joy. But, getting there... Wow lol So, no knocks against @rbalkris, who, I believe, has the best collection on earth. And I say that objectively with no superlatives. But this STANK! Lol. In the end, this hobby can be akin to a rorschach test in which you see what you see. Or in our case, smell what we smell. *Shrugs* NOTE: This was acquired before O&O. O&O can very well be my last purchase. I'm content. Let's see! Lol

Everything that I disliked about Creed Royal Oud, is pleasantly absent from this scent. I want to like RO but the green notes throw the whole scent off track, and I find the whole experience to be much too sweet overall. Not a skanky or bright oud, but smooth and silky. Definitely a strong musk, not too sweet though a little on the floral side imo. Both are present throughout, its a fairly linear scent, which in this case im fine with. Once in a while I get a hint of a pharmaceutical scent, generic acetaminophen specifically. Very well done and wearable in cold weather, though certainly not for those that prefer trendier, crowd pleasing scents. This is pure class, for whatever its worth. I can't see anyone under 30 getting away with this one. Unisex 7.5/10

Cartier Oud & Musc isn’t a loud, smoky Middle Eastern oud, it’s a refined, silky interpretation where clean white musk wraps around a smooth, slightly woody oud. The result is airy, luxurious, and incredibly classy. It smells expensive without trying too hard. Soft, skin-like, and intimate, yet unmistakably niche in character. The oud here is polished and modern, never animalic, making it very wearable even for those who usually avoid heavy oud fragrances. Projection is moderate, but the longevity is excellent. It lingers beautifully on clothes and skin for hours. Perfect for formal settings, evening wear, or when you want to smell sophisticated without being overpowering. A wonderful creation by Mathilde Laurent.

I have Oud & Santal, Oud & Musc and Oud & Ambre. I love them all so it is very hard for me to be biased against any of them. It is a lovely Fragrance, the projection and performance is better than Oud and Santal but I would wear Oud and Ambre for winters more than this. The dry down of this fragrance has a soapy smell to me, but I somehow love it. I got women compliments on it and I feel confident wearing this or Oud and Ambre to be honest. Oud and Santal has the most amazing smell but I can barely smell it after an hour unfortunately.

Update: I’ve been finding myself craving this, a lot, lately. So much so that I’ve been liberally spraying this on before bed. I wore this out the other day and, to my vindication, a FEW (3-4) people moved away from me. Which is a first in all my years of wearing fragrance. This being in its early phase. Later in the day, no one batted an eye. Albeit, i noticed a few deeply inhale. No doubt trying to determine if the scent was friend or foe lol So, yeah, it’s an acquired taste.

Restrained, exotic, musky, woody. Earthy, dirty, gritty, resinous. Aldehydic, powdery, transparent. Very sophisticated and extremely French. This sort of thing is my bag, baby.

A stunning Oud fragrance from Cartier. The most versatile from this line. Very sophisticated! Now finally available in 50 ml bottles.

I am a great admirer of Mathilde Laurent and her work at Cartier. In keeping with her other Oud & x scents, this is a simple composition that is exactly as described: a musky oud. My main gripe with this line is their limited performance, especially considering the price. But they are good quality perfumes that smell of easy elegance. On my skin, Oud & Musc is very subtle - more subtle than the others in this line. It is barely detectable in contrast to the strong performance discussed in reviews below. This aside, it is a nicely crafted soft musky scent, cosy and with just the right amount of dirtiness. The oud is wearable and palatable, yet realistic - this is the case for this line in general. They are all great introductory oud scents. Here, the oud is woody and smoky, not skanky. It gets increasingly musky as it develops, animalic and dirty, marrying nicely with the oud. It fades to a musky skin scent. Sillage is intimate and longevity is moderate. Earthy and sexy, it is edgy but nuanced enough to be cosy and pleasant. Unisex dirty musk done well. Pity about the performance. 3/5.

This scent is very nice and to me - best out of the line. It is in the same category as Musc Tonkin by parfum d'empire and kiehls original musc, but most wearable of the 3. Oud that was added to it is synthetic from what i can tell and it only pops at the beginning, but then it settles into that musc note(which is said to be urinal, but it is more like a skin scent in this case) nicely backed by the oud, keeping things soft, tiny bit powdery and sensual. It is most suitable for a woman for a classy night out, not the club or bar, but high end restaurant, opera or private villa evening. Longevity is good, at least 6 hrs, as for silage - it is not skin scent, but doesnt radiate immensely either. Very good scent in my books.

A nice but somewhat underwhelming Oriental, this is a very sophisticated and safe take on two naughty notes in perfume. The perfume opens with non-barnyard Assam Oud. It transitions to a brief heart of slight floral and woody notes. It quickly settles into its synthetic white musk base surrounded by slight civet. The good news is that this is an Oudy musk you can wear to work. It is discreet and sophisticated. The bad news is that these notoriously potent perfume ingredients have been tamed to the point of almost no recognition. Unisex with moderate sillage and good longevity. Enjoy!

I added my vote in the reminds me of “Antaeus” In other words the prominent note in this fragrance which gives the dirtiness is the Castoreum I believe they tried to depict the supposedly dirty musk using Castoreum which ok for me The dirty smell is crazy strong In the beginning but after it settles down it becomes more wearable Now when it comes to what I think about the fragrance I think it’s ok maybe above average Two reasons prevents me from buying 1. after a certain Time the performance tends to plummet so fast it almost evaporates 2. Extremely overpriced

In a really strange way it reminds me of Figment Man - way more polite and I'd say intelligent ... and therefore more wearable. Tried it this morning in Duty Free as it was heavy promo and bought immediately. Sexy/Sophisticated

Cartiers Oud and Musc is a warmish, slightly stuffy musk with an opening note of gentle animalic, woody resin. There's an impression of a faux oud paired to a sweaty musk in the mid-to-drydown, this musk reminds me a bit of Musc Tonkin but is less complex. It's warm, thick, and slightly impenetrable, but on the whole I find the composition just a bit suffocating and the musk isn't calibrated well to my skin. There are better ouds, better faux ouds, better musks, and better musky ouds. Sorry Cartier, but it's not my thing.

I got a 10 ml decant of this frag and I would say this is an acquired scent. You can tell right from the opening the power of this scent. As it opens, both the oud and musk accords are coming in simultaneously hammering your nostrils. It's pretty strong, animalic and its linear. The skanky oud vibe and the muskiness was prominent for the most part of the life of the scent but as it fades, there's a faint gorgeous whiff that you can catch once in awhile. It's a great addition to my collection but a kind of fragrance that I probably not gonna wear. Only for the brave, not for the faint of heart. “Let us spread the scents of peace and kindness. A very impressive spicy incensy rosey opening but then it goes into a never-ending urinous musc note that is exhausting. The oud remains throughout keeping everything woody, it’s neither skanky nor medicinal and only mildly smoky (refer to the aforementioned incensy note in the opening)

This is Oudy smelling, not that great though, has a 70's men's cologne vibe. Not my cup of tea.

We can't surely say that the three new (middle-eastern themed) launches in the Cartier's exclusive line win the prize for the most original names around. With labels such as *Oud & Musc*, *Oud & Rose* and *Oud & Oud*, it's pretty clear that they didn't put much effort and creativity when thinking about them. With that said, Oud & Musc is a pretty decent release but, from my point of view, not completely convincing. It opens with a sweet and kind of bright woody note (maybe some aldehydes come into play as well) joined by a nice civet-y musk. I immediately thought about MKK but I didn't have enough time to draw parallels as the civet-y part of the musk dissipated within seconds to leave space to a much cleaner and smoother kind of musk which is closer to the one used in the infamous Helmut Lang EDP or even in Bensimon's Cologne 1993. Well, this represented the main part of the whole fragrance. A nice and smooth, clean (yet warm) musk with woody facets and very distant animalic echoes. Overly polished, overly safe, over-priced and, as the name already suggested, ultimately a bit redundant. It's pleasant enough and I would probably wear it but, for what it is, I would never pay the price it goes for. Let's put it diplomatically: I'm probably not their target. Rating: 6.5/10

Less wearable than some of the other offerings from this Oud line. The musk accord is partly animalic and astringent but in the opening more so than in the dry down. Once it settles on skin it gradually becomes softer, however there remains a certain sharpness to the musk which is muffled by the oud as you're wearing it. It's not a bad scent but it's not something I'd reach for. The oud in here appears to be the same as in some of the other creations. I think it will appeal to a certain type of person only. Unisex. 5/10

Like Clyde mentioned this is a soft inoffensive oud scent...it's classy and has a rich creamy feel to it....great for winter but can be pulled off in the summer since it's not super heavy

If you can’t find it, instead seek out Kilian Cruel Intentions PDM Shagya Identical in smell, I mean identical

This fragrance is much like Cartier itself, classy, rich,and exotic, pretty nice package I would say.
