Testing a sample I received. It's a less heavy version of Tom Ford's Black Orchid. That's it, nothing special.

Having in mind that this is actually a peppery scent I do find it quite nice, but I do not think this is a light ozonic or aquatic scent, oh no no no... It is strong you guys, it is potent, dense and strong, I do not get where this 'ozonic' thing has to come from but I do not get it at all. When I first sprayed this I thought this might even be a woody almost oud scent with some incense notes.... that is how actually strong it is haha! But it is nice, it is a very attractive scent actually if you like a bit more mystical like I say maybe a bit smoky scents. I do like how there is a light sweetness and softness in this and it makes that peppery note quite softer not harsh and spicy and I do love a carrot seed note so maybe that's why this perfume appeals to me that much, because I find that carrot seeds gives a scent that interesting sweetness that sometimes feels even a little bit creamy, it give the perfume a bit rounder and softer feeling. Totally unisex but I guess it may lean a tiny bit more masculine. Feels niche, not cheap at all, interesting and unique, and definitely a stand-out perfume. Longevity is great! I would not suggest this during summer but hey we all have different tastes so whatever you like. I think Carven is overlooked when they have such gems in they collection, not to mention their bottles and the overall aesthetic is very nice and feels luxurious for sure.

Whilst browsing my local department store I stumbled upon the 'Voyage' line from Carven. This is the brand's more exclusive, niche range of fragrances; an olfactory journey across the globe. Paris Alexandrie is said to resemble the Egyptian desert and the ancient city of Alexandria. I had assumed that this fragrance collection was unisex, so I was quite taken aback by how masculine Paris Alexandrie smelt on my skin. I have now come to realise that the 'Voyage' line is for men and the 'Paris' line is for women. Paris Alexandrie opens with a heavy dose of aromatic lavender, nutmeg, pepper and carrot seeds. This is a smooth aromatic fragrance, softened further in the heart by the violet leaf accord providing a slight powdered aroma. The base is oakmoss-rich with a hint of dusty patchouli. Admittedly, this fragrance is nothing out of the ordinary. For almost $199 AUD a bottle, I don't know if the price matches the product. The longevity is superb, yet the composition lacks real complexity. Paris Alexandrie smells like a quality designer scent, not a fragrance of niche-standing. If the 'Voyage' range happens to decrease in price, it would be well worth checking out. Even the fussiest man is sure to find something to suit his tastes within these Carven exclusives. I am now incredibly keen to explore Carven's feminine counterparts to see how their compositions fare.
