My first review ever on Fragrantica, and it is Mefisto. I do own a small collection of designer and niche fragrances and for me Mefisto is on the highest level, together with masterpieces (and crowd pleasers) like Reflection Man by Amouage or Percival by Parfums de Marley or Florentine Iris by Zegna. I was searching for a new spring/summer fragrance and stumbled upon a sample of Silver Mountain Water (SMW) by Creed. Even though I liked the direction in which the composition of SMW was hinting at, especially for hotter days, I did not see myself wearing it. Maybe some aspects like the metallic, inky vibe didn`t resonate with me. I can`t even pinpoint it exactly, it simply doesn`t resonate with me. Mefisto was an online blind buy based on testing the SMW sample and reading reviews here and watching some on youtube. The moment I opened and smelled Mefisto I was relieved. It is fascinating how very similar, yet completely different it smells than SMW. Sounds crazy right? Having them side by side compared, it is mind boggling, to realize that despite a very similar smell, they are indeed two really different perfumes. I love to wear Mefisto, while I would never wear SMW. So much different are they for me. It is a matter of personal taste, not saying that SMW is bad. For me Mefisto smells more masculine, despite the slight hint of rose and the iris, probably the lavender and musk push it into that direction. Mefisto literally radiates high quality ingredients, which are yet so perfectly sophisticated composed in a balance with each other, that none of them is standing much outside of others, but it flows together into one. Well rounded one would probably say. Mefisto is perfect for the spring and summer heat, the feeling to stand inside a fresh citrus field, surrounded by flowers, yet still feeling this masculine and classy italian vibe is so refreshing and energizing. Such an interesting and deep composition of ingredients, it is playfull, sophisticated and gentlemanly at the same time. Projection and longevity are great, something I miss with so many fragrances today, I hope this will never change. Indeed Xerjoff has created a master piece here.

When your friends know you’re cheating on your partner, and all they have to say is wow you really do have a type Well, after 12 years of relationship, I’m divorcing Creed SMW, and thinking of maybe making it official with Mefisto. Creed SMW was my first love of niche, and maybe perfumery overall. It was 2012, I was a 22yo investment banker, first time feeling like I had money and started collecting fragrances. I will never forget the first time i smell SMW: one of our directors waltzed onto our floor, and the air in the room turned clean, cool, fresh, but stern. It’s like a really fragrant iceberg just entered the room.... It was weird, i had never smelled anything like that. SMW DNA remains to be the epitome of fantastic niche perfumery to me: well-composed, unique, ever-so-slightly confusing, memorable (for better or worse). But it has changed since, quite a lot. The mineralic, cold, and inky facet is almost missing now - the thing that made it beautiful, not boring and dazzling. Now, the citrus is up top, in the middle, all around and everywhere. It’s fresher, still beautiful but just not the same. SMW’s performance? It is the equivalent of loving someone with an erectile dysfunction... Came along Mefisto, and let’s just say i feel like I’m 22 years old again. It’s similar enough for me to reminisce and enjoy, but different enough for me to still adore and find interesting. The rose and lavender accord in place of the blackcurrant: BRILLIANT. You lost the mineralic inkiness, but you gain a Don Juan flare to SMW DNA. The performance: Mefisto is the stallion to SMW’s erectile dysfunction. I live in the tropics now, 27-33 degrees celcius all year long and 70%++ humidity. Mefisto sparkles and last 7 hours on me. Submitting this review as I’m writing a spousal support cheque for Creed SMW, i’m a little bit sad, but mostly happy to move on...

This is not just a review it’s a reminder to myself of how I felt while wearing this fragrance. I believe the name Mefisto was not chosen at random but with intention. It carries the weight of legend, a name that echoes time, cunning, and deception just like this fragrance. You don’t realize what’s happening until time has passed, until you raise your hands in surrender, with nothing left to do but give in to what this scent imposes on you. Fortunately, it was a surrender to something beautiful. At first encounter, I didn’t feel that immediate magic I had anticipated. Perhaps because I had heard so many opinions describing it as the pinnacle of elegance, as something irresistibly charming, and I expected it to captivate me instantly. But instead, I felt there was something hidden beneath the surface depth that could only be unraveled with time. It was like meeting a mysterious figure who doesn’t reveal all their cards at once, forcing you to look deeper, to wait, to truly understand before you can appreciate what’s in front of you. And as time passed, I started to understand it more, to embrace it, and now I see that this fragrance is not just a beautiful scent it’s an experience. It embodies refined nobility, like an Italian prince preparing for an evening under the soft glow of a coastal city, where the air carries the scent of the sea and the richness of tailored fabrics. This fragrance is not just a bottle on a shelf; it’s a moment, a memory, a presence that refuses to be fleeting.

I tried it a few times and finally I liked it. It is liked by everyone but it is not an ordinary fresh perfume. Iris, rose and masculinity are a difficult mixture to blend, but it is amazing, a very clean, very soft scent with a lot of character. I have many options for summer so I do not buy it if it will replace one of my perfumes one day, it is on my top list but if I were a collector I would buy it without hesitation. It is a wonderful summer scent with a mature profile. edit I tried it in the store frequently when I had the chance and then I couldn't resist. I will buy it as soon as possible, it is a very gentlemanly and eye-catching scent, I loved it. I finally bought my bottle for a reasonable price but its performance made me very upset. I am in love with its scent. I always want to smell like this but its performance is noticeable around you for the first 3-4 hours and lasts for a maximum of 6 hours. I always spend money on niche level performance scents. I don't think I will buy it again when my bottle is finished. I couldn't resist and bought another bottle as soon as it finished :) Yes, it's not sharp and prominent like the other perfumes I've used, but after a long break, I tried it on someone else, yes, I can still smell it after 8 hours, but it's hard to get compliments because it's so soft, but the scent is there, so I don't complain about its performance. My advice is if you spray it 8-10 times, the scent will definitely stay with you all day long.

I knew from the note breakdown and from several reviews online that this scent would be up my alley, and boy was I right! I got a sample vial, and after a few wears, I knew it was a good fit, and so I got a full bottle. It's not a challenging fragrance to wear, you can be wearing this casually during the day or in a suit at night (though I think the sunniness of the florals and the citrus lend themselves more naturally to daytime wear). The florals here are sweet but not cloying; rose is probably the most prominent, but it's not jammy here, which makes it feel more unisex. If the florals are at all "feminine" here they are balanced out by the citrus, which are probably not as present on the dry-down but definitely give it an initial lift. Even though it's not listed, the combination of the florals and citrus produce a kind of tea-like note (close to white tea) that I find super calming. The musk here is soft and clean, and it really lingers for hours and hours (I sprayed it last night and though it doesn't project after a full 24 hours, I still can smell it on my skin where I sprayed it). Mefisto is kind of a "unicorn" in that it smells quite fresh, but it projects strongly and lasts a long time (with the atomizer of the 100mL Casamorati bottle, a spray on each wrist and one more on the neck will suffice for a full day's wear). Cannot recommend highly enough.

I own both SMW and Mefisto, as other reviewers have said, the DNA is similar. These are the key differences for me: -for Mefisto the drydown is much smoother, it has this very refined sillage, granted it may not be as loud as SMW, the lavender and iris really shine, and the amber gives it a subtle sweetness -on my skin SMW is too cloying in the high heat, the blackcurrent note makes it too tart and too much too wear in high heat, or also in humid countries (i wore recently in Hong Kong and regretted), this also makes it more difficult to wear for work purposes, on the other hand Mefisto has a much smoother drydown, and i am confident to wear in the summer at work -performance is slightly better for SMW, but its very marginal, I actually like that as it also makes it safer to spray on clothes without it lingering for days (i wouldnt spray SMW on clothes) -maybe its more perceived than real, but i feel that the quality of the Casamorati oils is better than Creed, the ingredients are more expensive and unique. I feel like Italian brands have an edge in this genre, probably better access to high quality citrus oils than a UK brand. I love Creed, but for a citrus forward scent i would not choose Creed, they have other great genres i would rather spend money on. Both are great scents, cannot go wrong with either, most people won't be able to tell the difference.

Zesty fresh, softly-masculine green flowers (rose and lavender), lovely spicy. * Quick description: I smell a green rose and lavender, cloaked in masculine bergamot, cedar and musk. It's high quality and you can smell much more, but that's the most prominent take on it. Unique, approachable, sweet, interesting. The flowers don't smell sugary or hyper feminine, but very down to earth and green-fresh. Like you could almost eat them. * True unisex? If I HAD to choose if it's more masc or fem leaning, I'd say more masculine. But it's so in the middle for me that the wearer decides the gender. It's hinestky * Best worn by: Perfect for bisexual men (flirty beauties ;) ) or punk rockers - men who don't give a rats ass about what society tells them to do or to be. But in a stoic, optimistic way. The stubborn types - you know who you are. But also perfect for hyper feminine, boss ladies. The ones who are brave, stand their ground and inspire others to not be afraid to shine. * Blind buy? Office friendly? Even tho this is really an approachable scent, it's also daring and has a comfortable sweetness level. So this scent is just as tough as it is approachable. It's an invitation to stand up straight, put your shoulders back and take on the world with a positive attitude. For the ones who dare to color outside of the lines. An addictive complement magnet!

Boy oh boy, this one hits the spot. It was a little bit of gamble for me as I ordered 100ml bottle without testing it first, couldn't find it in any stores in my area and was too lazy to look for a tester online... All I knew was that it's similar to CDN Sillage but higher quality and guess what - that was indeed true. The scent profile is pretty much the same but Mefisto is smoother, a bit sweeter and with no synthetic smell. I still get that unusual ink/metallic note on my skin but it's just somewhere in the background and makes the smell even more unique. I love this fragrance from the opening to the dry down. Unfortunately it is not nearly as strong as Sillage but I guess you can't have everything. Projection on my skin is just average, maybe it will improve with time or just works better in warmer weather. Longevity is quite good for this type of fragrance, I would say 5-6 hours but after a few hours it's rather close to the skin. Obviously works best in spring and summer, day and warm nights. I would say it's rather unisex, maybe leaning masculine. For me it's another 10/10 from Xerjoff and my favourite summer fragrance at the moment. Even though I highly recommend it, don't be like me - test first.

My socks are no longer on my feet, because Mefisto has launched them across the room. I got around to picking up samples of both this and Gentiluomo to compare. Firstly, I don’t like Gentiluomo—very powdery, and past the opening I get little resemblance to either Silver Mountain Water or OG Mefisto. (Yay for redundancy?) I am no SMW ‘diehard’, but I am a fan of it. I have a 5yo bottle of it and unlike many, I actually do get good performance—I know, shocking. Mefisto is a carbon copy in terms of quality, and I’d say it’s even better blended. Like many other reviews stated, Mefisto lacks the same musks and inkiness of the Creed, and puts more weight into the citruses. It’s unquestionably the same DNA, but this plays a little brighter than SMW, which makes it feel like a modernized version. Oh, and you get a nice little upgrade in performance, too. I feel like Mefisto is the ‘magnum opus’ of this dna. It’s seriously so good; I think they took everything I liked about SMW and just did it a little better—and cheaper. It’s not an original creation, but this gets top marks. Update: I only had my sample for a day before full-sending it on a bottle. Some frags grow on us over time, but this one was instant love!

Whenever someone advertises a clone or "inspired-by" fragrance as "blank and blank but with nuclear longevity," just know they are either lying to you or deeply misinformed. There is no way to markedly artificially increase the performance of a scent without markedly shifting the scent itself. Casamorati's Mefisto is one that gets thrown into this category at points. But this is not a "beast mode Creed Silver Mountain Water." Both of these fragrances share a similar curious, bright citrus note that I have only found in this DNA. But where SMW is sharp and almost metallic, Mefisto is juicy and rich. And instead of drying down into the green notes with a hint of sandalwood, Mefisto dries down into this beautiful blend of cold lavender, clean iris, and sweet rose with an added cedar note as well. And for what it's worth, Mefisto does in fact last twice as long. There is a certain magic to this DNA that makes both of these fragrances trying out. I lean towards Mefisto because it wraps my favorite notes together (citrus, iris, lavender, musk, sandalwood) and it's a fraction of the price, but SMW is absolutely incredible as well. For my money, this is the best classy citrus daily on the market. 10/10

Absolutely fantastic! Something about this fragrance instantly lifts my mood. The citrus opening is photo-realistic, like someone cut and squeezed some fresh grapefruit and lemon. The transition to rose, iris and lavender is seamless, which is a tribute to the craftsmanship of the fragrance. The floral heart is backed by sandalwood and musk which nudges the fragrance into unisex territory rather than the feminine direction. In all honesty, anyone can pull off this fragrance; it transcends gender or age. It is super addictive and I can't stop smelling it. Projection and longevity are there to match, lasting 8+ hours and creating a scent bubble; which is out of this world for a summer/spring freshie. I've only received positive feedback from this scent. If you can find this at a discounter, it is 100% worth it if you enjoy uplifting citrus fragrances like myself. 11/10: Mefisto now my signature scent. This is dethroning Torino21 as my signature scent so that speaks in itself the quality of this juice.

Let me start by saying: I’m not a bisexual man, a punk rocker, or a boss lady — and I still really like this scent. (reference to snuffeltje and other comments below me) People experience fragrance differently, so making absolute statements about who something is “for” doesn’t make much sense. It’s all subjective. Saying “to me” goes a long way and leaves room for others to enjoy and interpret a fragrance in their own way. To me, this is super versatile — probably even better in warmer weather than in colder seasons. That said, you can still wear it in winter, especially since most of us spend a lot of time indoors anyway. It smells like a realistic lemon-blue, fresh aquatic/cucumber/salty. Mature, a little dry, and with little to no sweetness. Slightly traditional in style, but very well done. Classic, energetic, and easy to wear without being offensive. 9.5/10

Very, very similar to SMW. On first spray they're almost indistinguishable, except perhaps Mefisto is slightly more citrus forward with the lemon. As it dries down they do differentiate a bit, namely Mefisto stays brighter and citrusy and the 'ink' note is toned down compared to SMW (although the new pathetic batches of SMW don't have the ink note either) I'm trying really hard to pick up on the rose but I genuinely can't. Where it really shines compared to the scam that Creed puts out nowadays is the performance. This will last a good 5-6 hours and you'll get whiffs of it throughout the day as you move, even if it doesn't push out that much, while the Creed will disappear by the 2 hour mark. Completely unisex in my opinion with a beautiful scent profile that has been tried, tested and loved for decades. Great fragrance.

Mefisto is a perfect Spring into Summer fragrance. It’s relatively easy to wear and pleasant rather than mind blowing! How it smells on you is very dependent on your skin type. Without doubt it opens up with a very strong SMW vibe, but this quickly morphs into something else. On my skin, the florals bounce out and I get a very clean rose, underpinned with a hint of musk and an earthy Sandalwood, not dissimilar to Santal 22. On my gf’s skin the citrus elements stay centre stage and while it smells similar, it is fresher and more like SMW without the metallic edge. I’d say it was disappointing longevity wise, except for the fact that despite me only being able to detect a mere hint of floral, people around me commented (positively) on it. A very well crafted fragrance and recommended - just don’t expect fireworks.

Starts off with a good quality bright citrus to open things. Seamless transition to gentle florals in mid, never heavy at all, and eventually melds, to my nose to a lightly musky, creamy woodiness. Really fantastically blended. For a fresh, uplifting fragrance this lasts exactly the right amount of time, to my mind. About 6 hours of longevity with arms-length projection for about 90 minutes. If you wear it during the day, by evening, you're ready to put on your going out scent and hit the starlit night afresh! Does it creep into Creed Silver Mountain Water territory? It does, but Mefisto is gonna be smoother and more wearable for a greater number of people than SMW. At least to my mind. Highly recommend, with the caveat of price. Buy from a discounter. Don't pay retail. I found it full bottle worthy.

Nothing but class here my friends. If you dont have the money, rob someone that wont press charges-lol The open of the Fresh citrus, calabrian lemon, grapefruit, and bergamot are as real as it gets in the niche perfumery world. The middle notes of lavender flowers, damascene rose, white flowers, florence iris are so light that when the scent drifts into your nose it makes you feel just wanting more & more. Well dont worry about the wanting aspect because the base of sandalwood, cedarwood, Amber and musks will make you feel unstoppable to anyone in your path. The ladies will remember you for many days and nights- Trust Me! 10/10 bigtime! Update 7/21/19 Lasts 4-5 hours tops outdoors in extreme heat and thats understandable with the top quality citrus notes used. Still worth every penny in my book.

When I first started admiring this one 5 or so years ago, it was very expensive. Now bottles can regularly be found at steep discounts. This is an absolute hidden gem by most mainstream folks. It’s so juicy, fresh, and just the right amount of floral. It’s like an improved Creed Silver Mountain Water, maybe a little more geared towards Summer. Putting this on when doing outdoor activities in the heat (especially the pool) is a match in heaven. I really don’t wear this as much as I should. Performance 8+ hours with decent projection and sillage throughout. Not a lot of sprays needed either. It does get progressively more floral through the day, but retains an appropriately masculine edge—but definitely not out of place on a lady. Blind buy safe if you like what you read online.

Wanted to get this perfume for so much time, not the thing I was expecting from the note breakdown. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good scent but it’s a more natural and long lasting version of Silver Mountain Water, with a few tweaks, this one doesn’t have the inky note, instead it has a freshly cut grass note in the opening, the flowers can barely be noticed. The dry down is actually very good. Iris lovers like me, this is not the one you are expecting. Update. After wearing it on a daily basis, I’m getting used to the opening, which I didn’t disliked but didn’t loved either. Started to feel the floral notes, but 2-3 hours after applying it. Those notes can only be found on skin, you won’t noticed them if sprayed on clothes. Longevity is amazing. Really loved it after some time
