Jockey Club EDP isn't a modern design that's a vintage wannabe - it's an authentic historical fragrance rebuilt from the ground up by Pascal Gaurin, and it's like nothing else in the current market. It has a bright bergamot opening with a hint of fresh citrus. You can detect carnation and thyme almost immediately providing a neat and clean aromatic spice. This scent is extremely structured and well balanced. The heart is the signature of this fragrance. Rose and jasmine provide a floral richness that could become too sweet, but orris root and basil hold them in check with a dry, rooted earthiness. The orris keeps this scent semi-masculine. Although rose is a critical ingredient for the flora component, don't be surprised that this isn't a rose fragrance. The drydown is where Jockey Club really shines. It settles into a soft, warm skin scent where the florals recede, and a quiet amber warmth emerges. It doesn't collapse into powder overload the way the note pyramid might suggest - it simply gets closer, more intimate, more personal with a beautiful hint of powder. Hours into the wear, what remains is clean warmth with just a hint of floral to remind you what you're wearing. What Caswell-Massey understood with the original, and the update, is fragrance is designed and created for the wearer. They have to be confident enough to pull it off. Jockey Club EDP is a complex and refined, scent that doesn't demand attention. It's designed for the gentleman wearing it. At $200 for 100 mL EDP, you're paying for a classic and elegant scent that most houses at twice the price can't match. JFK wore the original Jockey Club. This is a classic, wonderful, revision of that. It is truly magnificent. Sample it and you will understand why. It is my daily wear and one of my gold-standards!

Out of all the heritage sample kit I bought my husband Jockey Club was our favorite. This is a wonderful citrus amber rose patchouli cologne. It starts off w/ a lovely thyme, and carnation smell that really captivated my husband and I right at the start. It turns into a wonderful powdery, patchouli rose scent. This could almost lean unisex and I have to say I think I could wear this one. Spicy, floral, amber, patchouli, green, powdery, musky, woody. It has all of the accords to my nose anyway that I really love. I think Jockey Club is full bottle worthy for my husbands collection. This is such a classic scent that more men should discover. It has depth, character, is sensual yet classy. This is a great cologne for a man of confidence, warmth and sensuality. Would be a great date night scent. Edit:6/8/22 I should have mentioned this before the notes and accords as listed above for this perfume are all wrong! The website says the notes are as follows.....Bergamot, carnation, thyme, honey, rose, jasmine, orris, basil, and powdery notes. Jockey club is primarily a rose/carnation/patchouli scent w/ powdery nuances. It is not overly citrus at all like the above accord suggest. I also don't think this brand gets enough attention here. Which is sad. Many of Casswell and Massey fragrances smell a lot better than what so called Niche brands put out, not to mention that what does the word "Niche" mean anyway? Many so called "Niche" brands are owned by corporations now.

Sampling Caswell-Massey Jockey Club EDP, a fresh spicy men’s scent from this now-revived classic American house, with a simple note breakdown of bergamot, honeyed rose, basil, and orris root. I certainly get the rose, along with a greenish woody powdery background, and it has a bit of an oriental-meets-chypre vibe to it, a less-woody-and-spicy-than-usual men’s offering from this house that makes up with some headiness and sharpness coming from rose and orris. Its opening is fairly bright but it dries down to being a bit more midway between bright and dark. I think it’s great, even if not quite as compelling as Number Six or Oaire, my two favorites so far, but I still quite like in a sort of heady, old-fashioned way that’s high-performing, interesting, and one I would consider buying a travel size of to consider further. Still, it’s probably my third favorite of the line and very strong, overall. As with most of the house’s EDP lineup, this is pried at $200/40 for 100/7.5ml, sold seemingly exclusively via the house website. There is also a Jockey Club Cologne, but this is rather the EDP. 8 out of 10

There are three bottles from three separate batches in my wardrobe: 2016- heavy on the powdery note, more florals than citrus 2017- equally heavy on the floral and citrus notes, with the powder always lurking 2014- a beautifully balanced batch and easily my favorite The florals and citrus make for a cheerful, uplifting feel; the musk keeps this scent leaning towards the ‘masculine’ side; and that heavenly, powdery note really sets this apart from today’s current scents. Admittedly an older gentleman’s scent, it dominates its niche and is a study in 19th century perfumery. Call it dated but there’s a reason it is still in production today. This scent has become my signature, as it’s such a comfort to wear. Tabac original, Lagerfeld classic, and Clubman Pinaud all provide the classic barbershop talc/powder note but none equal Jockey Club in its ‘dandy’ splendor.

For me, this is the textbook barbershop fragrance. Cannot help but think of those visits to barbershops in the old country back in the day. Amber is quite prominent, and I think I get lavender, too, but it is not listed among the notes here on Fragrantica; so, take my word with a grain of salt. Those who are sensitive about "old men" fragrances should stay clear away. This reminds me of my dad, and I am no young dude myself to begin with. So, we are talking grandpa level stuff here; which, by the way, is perfectly fine with me.

I love old-fashioned apothecary/barbershop scents. Jockey Club fits perfectly into this category. It’s floral and powdery without being feminine. It accomplishes this by using notes of citrus, greenery, and musk to compliment a heart of dry, soapy talc. It’s a must-have for anyone who enjoys clean classic scents that are just as much a time capsule as they are a cologne.

A solid floral fougere- very vibrant and fresh!

Almost a thumbs up. This stuff is flawlessly barbershoppy and lasts pretty well. I don't know why they made the juice green though. I think it has less anise/licorice and more clove/cinnamon than some of the other old barbershop ones, or the neo-barbershoppy Rive Gauche...those notes are usually the dealbreakers for me in this genre. So it's a little less sweet, or maybe sweet in a less pungent way, than the others, and for me that means it's slighly more refreshing. There's some creamy orange peel in there which is a little different from the others as well. Still, it's inescapably old-fashioned so "old man scent" haters may want to beware, even though it's not one of the 70s-type that seem to be the biggest offenders. In the end, the orange peel becomes very prominent and it reminds me of Equipage more than anything else. I'd take Jockey Club over a lot of its kindred, but it's still a tad too much licorice for me to enjoy reguarly. I'm hoping to find an alternative from among the Trumpers line.

I'm really enjoying this! It opens with a subtle bergamot paired with a herbal/floral blend. The carnation is bright and rosy, which I like. Orris root adds a hint of powderiness, but it’s not overwhelming. There’s also a subtle touch of vanilla that brings creaminess without sweetness. Overall, it feels like an elevated version of Royal Copenhagen, definitely a fragrance for men, without any of that unisex modern crap.

i remember knowing that this had been JKF's scent before i smelled it... and then after i tried it? he suddenly made more sense. he had charisma and must have smelled amazing... what a dangerous combination! i wouldn't call this an old fashioned scent by any means, but i guess it could be considered a traditional type of fragrance for a man. it's VERY nice, though!

A really enjoyable old school vibe to this, that unfortunately doesn't have great performance. I genuinely like that classic, bracing and fresh herbaceous DNA, but it's hard to justify the cost of the full bottle ($160 on Caswell's website WITH a discount code) for the meh performance.

This smells like baby powder. It's pleasant, but not very masculine.

The first time I encountered this fragrance was in a small town antique shop which was very appropriate for this classic. The initial thing that caught my eye was the incredibly vintage looking bottle. They had an open tester so people could sample and man oh man I liked it immediately. This is classy as they come folks. Opens up very green and floral with a powdery backbone all the way through the dry down but in a very masculine way. It’s one of those fragrances that you can’t help but feel gentlemanly when you wear it. It hardly gets talked about at all which just adds to the charm. So happy to have this hidden gem in my collection.

Funny how people compare this to Wild Country, which is an aromatic fougere. While I do find Jockey Club to be very powdery and dandified, if anything, it's sort of similar to (get this) Chypre de Coty, without all the animalism. I know, right? It's a farfetched comparison, and it's not as green or mossy as Chypre either, butI definitely smell a similarity, even when comparing Jockey Club to my decant of Chypre from the 50's. Jockey Club really isn't a chypre, but Chypre doesn't really smell like most chypres either, so if you're looking for a suitable replacement for Chypre, this one might work. I dig it.

I was hoping this (Jockey Club Edp) would be something as interesting and classic as CM’s current jockey club aftershave(they are not the same fragrance), but this is basically synthetic flowers and honey. Cloying upon first application. This, unfortunately, comes across as a mass appealing contemporary scent. It’s too bad to have to see words like “modern edition” and “reimagined” in the current description of a fragrance that had stood the test of time.

This is a nice old fashioned cologne from America's first perfumery that brings to mind fond thoughts of an old time tonsorial parlor complete with steaming hot towels, shaving mugs, brushes, and straight razors. Something from a bygone era to wrap around you. Said to be JFK's signature scent, it has amazing staying power for an EDC. This comfort scent,to me, was a welcome addition to my perfume wardrobe.

Jockey Club evokes old world charm of style, sophistication and elegance. No wonder this was JFK's preferred scent. Fresh, green and powdery just like stepping out of a refined gentleman's barber salon. I still go to one and tucked away he has a bottle of this for special clients. This is an aristocratic perfume for men who are confident and charming.

A classic barber shop scent. Very powdery, citrus, wood, and green. Extremely synthetic and very clean. I would say this scent lends more towards a much older clientele. Very much the above 50 crowd. This has very little similarity to the Heritage formulation which is very smooth and well rounded. This is very sharp and harsh by comparison.

The scent impression to me was different from the note pyramid. On me it’s woody, spicy, resinous, citrus, ambroxan, rose, & an inky salty note. I also get aromatic herbs, hibiscus, & the late dry down is smokey to me with mesquite wood and amber. It’s a bit of an everything but the kitchen sink fragrance but a nice one.

Interesting and old-world smelling. When I smell JC I think of the old library at Trinity College...monocles, moustaches and art deco fashion. I like this fragrance. It is best for special occasions like weddings, anniversaries or a trip to the races. The bottle, label and packaging are superb.
