Sandalwood

This was the first sandalwood perfume I ever tried. It's the same now as it was in the '90s when I first wore it. It's warm, spicy, with a strong citrus blast--a lovely Australian Sandalwood. The new sandalwood Caswell-Massey introduced under the "Heritage" category may be more authentic to Mysore sandalwood, but it lacks the warmth and spice of the original. Caswell-Massey's Heritage Sandalwood is cold, with pencil shavings notes, while the Centuries Sandalwood is warm and seems to melt into the skin. Over the years I've purchased the original "Centuries" sandalwood as perfume, soap, body lotion, and shampoo. It's a comforting scent that reminds me a bit of Serge Lutens Chergui.

The scent of sandalwood enchants me, so fresh, warm and soothing. I've used Caswell Massey Sandalwood lotion for decades and it lasts at least 24 hours on me. I never tried the cologne, because the lotion is so fragrant. For those who find the cologne doesn't last (cologne is the barest and most fleeting form of fragrance), I recommend the lotion instead.

First try of Caswell-Massey Woodgrain Sandalwood Cologne, a bit of sharp, green, woody blend centered on notes of sandalwood and bergamot, but it’s not so much bright and citric as it is sharp and green, definitely a classic-leaning vibe overall but with a bit of modern sensibility, seemingly a part of the general gist of the relaunch of the brand in in 2017. It’s agreeable enough but not as interesting as some other higher-concentration entries that I’ve tried from the brand, but the pricing is modest enough that it’s an easy enough one to try or own and use frequently. Specifically, Woodgrain Sandalwood Cologne is priced at $80/30 for 88/7.5ml, sold via the house website in the US, which is where I purchased the smaller size when also purchasing their most recent discovery set. Performance is good but not super strong, not as strong as the non-colognes that I’ve tried. Overall, it’s good but I will likely stick to the travel size. 7 out of 10

This was and still is a staple of my collection. It's simple, affordable and smells phenomenal. It's a safe one to wear.

I don't know what pure sandalwood smells like (or Tam Dao, etc.) but this smelled so totally unlike the "classic" men's colognes that I've come to expect from Caswell-Massey that I wasn't even sure if the decant I got was the right stuff. It was more perfumey and perhaps white-musky than I expected, with seemingly little spice and too much sweetness within the creamy wood (really too bad, because otherwise I love creamy wood smells). It seemed entirely feminine, smelling like a middle-aged woman's well-appointed bathroom, which is a nice smell, but not on me. I incidentally gave it to my mom to spray in her bathroom, so hopefully it will fulfill the niche to which I have so harshly relegated it.

This did not work with my skin chemistry. Actually it didn't even work in the bottle. Smelled just like the brown liquid used to polish teak or other dark wooden furniture.. Very dissapointed with this. But many love it, so try it for yourself :)

This product contains some kind of inferior quality sandalwood that smells very woody and has a base note of a toilet bowl cleaner solution - indeed this product isn't the authentic sandalwood from the past! I suppose there are some that enjoy this fragrance but suspect that they have never smelled the authentic and long-lost authentic sandalwood from years ago. It saddens me and find it misleading when the word 'sandalwood' is used in the marketing of these inferior products from trees other than what the authentic sandalwood came from. If one ever tried the authentic sandalwood the offer of this inferior quality concoction should prove offensive. Is there someone knowledgeable out there that could guide me to a good source of the real product?

If there's any sandalwood in this, it has to be Australian or synthetic. No matter. I wear it because I like the scent. It's intensely lemony/piney upon application but becomes progressively caramellic and creamy as it dries down, the initial bitterness turning into a more woody note. It's far from a complex fragrance but it has great longevity without overpowering sillage. I didn't start out liking it as much as I do now but after wearing it for a few weeks and then getting bored with it and moving on to other things, I began to appreciate how it sticks in one's olfactory memory. That doesn't happen with a lot of scents. And this one has the benefit of being quite affordable.

If you love sandalwood you have got to have this one! It's a beautiful warm and sweet authentic sandalwood, not the cheap synthetic kind you usually find. It's only drawback is that it's a bit "thin" and doesn't have a lot of staying power. However CM makes a full line of Sandalwood products, even shampoo. The effect is much stronger if you layer it. I like to put the cologne on at bedtime, so nice drifting off to sleep in a cloud of this.

Mando,You need to wear in winter and leave it on for three four hours, it mellows into incredible warm smooth spicy wood. Ladies love it.give it another go if you still own it., this is one of Caswells best men's colognes believe it or not.

I got this for a present. OooOOOooOoOOoh what an awful thing to smell on man or beast. Mine was unreal powerful...unreal. I threw mine away. I don't even want to smell this wafting in the wind from anywhere in the world.

I sprayed some of this on my arm today. Is this really what sandalwood smells like? For some reason the note is SO much more appealing in Guerlain Heritage... Longevity is good. Not sure I liked this scent, however.

I love sandalwood but all I get with this is #2 pencil shavings dipped in something synthetic and nasty smelling that was then lit on fire along with some old tires. And this was a blind buy for me. Yuck.

If you like Paul Sebastian PS cologne, this is its twin brother.
