Love Deneuve by Catherine Deneuve she was so ahead of her time when she created this it won a FiFi award 1987 This perfume was the epitome of the 80s' Absolutely gorgeous juice in a bottle, the galbanum oakmoss with the green notes, hyacinth and civet gives it an animalistic green floral that is to die for. This is a classic vintage CHYPRE in all its glory its absolutely stunning memorable and nostalgic! Thank goodness I was able to get a bottle of this beaut. P. S for some reason this reminds me of CLASSIC PERRY ELLIS COLOGNE 1985' actually it's so close, Perry Ellis which strangely looking at came out the same year 1985 so many great memories. She should bring back this beautiful fragrance it'll probably do great in this era its a shame that it's no longer in production I read that it was very expensive and complicated to keep making in the US. It originally was supposed to be or was under Avon when it was released very interesting story behind it anyhow if you find for all those Chypre fans you will be happy!

All I can say is, I wish they’d bring it back. It’ll be such a delight to escape oudh and today’s esoteric perfume notes. Fragrance Innovation is not a mish mash of disparate notes- it’s rather a studied seamless journey into unexplored regions of olfactory delight, on a vehicle of deep knowledge. Modernity, to me, does not necessitate departure from wisdom. Having said my philosophical bit, I came across an ounce of pure Deneuve perfume I’d ferreted away decades ago. I’d forgotten how transportive it is! For a bit I stopped grieving for loss of innocence and global stability. Ah, the florals and ancient notes cleansed me. I’d agree it slots in nicely with rive gauche and climat. Two of my favorites. Hope all you afficiandos of Deneuve continue your search for this treasure. Frederick Malle is her nephew I think, if my belabored grey cells serve me...hmmm...

Deneuve is maximum oakmoss in effect, civet pitter-pat all over greeneries, spring yellow stems, fizzy florals where you can't quite pick any one bloom apart from the other, but they all smell glorious together. All elements whirling about, weaving in and out, big cedar and slightly sweet violet swell forward in an almost hallucinatory manner during wear, but get washed over by yet more oakmoss. This is a chypre for chypre die-hards, it's heady but it does not scream, it hums steadily and for a good while. It wears like a veil of earthy splendor, and it's a sad, sad world today if one can wear this and not turn heads approvingly. I must reiterate though: you must love, absolutely love mossiness, woodiness, and a chypre sealed with some smutty civet to appreciate this sybaritic delight.

I have had the same reaction as many others here - whenever I wore it, people always asked me what I was wearing, because it was SO beautiful. It was terribly marketed in the US - as some kind of independent, free-spirited, spunky woman's fragrance (like Charlie, or some other classless, cheap scent), rather than the deep, warm, sophisticated, intensely feminine scent that it was. Such a pity. I have never found anything to match it. My favourite fagrance now is Montale's Aoud Velvet, but it is simply not the same.

Deneuve was a wonderful, complex rich floral perfume, with many green notes in it and a woody cedary drydown. Had it had a bit less cedar, I would have stockpiled it! For those of you disconsolate over its unavailability, you might like to try Balmain's Ivoire, assuming that one is available. Ivoire isn't quite as richly floral, but in other ways it is very similar.

After decades of searching for a fragrance that I love as much as Deneuve, I seem to have found one that comes very close. And, of course, it too is from the 1980s, and was discontinued quite some time ago *sigh*. It's La Nuit by Paco Rabanne. The only consolation is that the sample bottles are more affordable...

Oh, the memories! I think this came out in the 80s (like most great perfumes). Anyway, being the perfume junkie that I am, I had to have it. It is a very elegant scent. Like the woman who inspired it. I wish I could find it again.

Well, Catherine Deneuve is the most beautiful woman, and her perfume reflects that fact perfectly! She, and her perfume, take your breath away. It's gorgeous.

Does anyone know of a fragrance that is similar to Deneuve? Is it still being produced? It is the best fragrance!

I've heard so many good things about this for so long. I bought an unopened one-ounce bottle about a year ago and forgot about it. I opened it today and sampled. I sprayed very lightly, more spritzed really, and even that was just too much. I will have to give it a second chance, but I cannot smell anything but bitter, perfumy-floral, spicy, powdery grandma. I'm sure it's very well-blended, and there must be a reason why so many love it, but at this point I'm left wondering if so many desire it simply because so few can have it. My overwhelming impression of this is that it is more "perfumy" and less of a fragrance. Deneuve is such a mature scent, for someone very mature or actually older in age, and I would definitely say for the woman 50+. I'm 54, and it's far too mature for me. It has a very old-fashioned vibe. It's a carnation-like spice, aldehyde, and powder bomb. I don't get any freshness or openess, and cannot discern any remarkable green notes or anything non-flowery/powdery, although it is a bit bitter. It reads as stuffy and cloying to me. I love the oakmoss and galbanum, being a fan of Paloma, but this is something far less interesting and far more perfumy. In moments it's spiciness can remind me a bit of Lagerfeld KL, but never developes into anything deeper, and the patchouli depth is missing, but there is enough bitterness here that the patchouli would likely be redundant. I see comparisons to EL Knowing, but this is far more powdery and old-fashioned to me. One reviewer mentioned Jacomo Silences, and I have to say, as a lover of Silences, I just don't get the comparison. In my experience, any green notes Deneuve might have are so overpowered by perfumy, flowery powder as to be indescernable. On me, Silences dries down to a fresh greenness with a hint of powder. Silences is indeed one of my very favorites, and I own many fragrances. I do see comparisons to Diva, although to me Diva has a honeyed sweetness that gentles it a bit. Diva, too, is an aldehyde BOMB, and I give it plenty of time to mellow before leaving the house. Diva is, as this will also be, not something I reach for often, as I don't find these frags very easy to pair with events outside of the home. Definitely statement fragrances, and not easy-wearing or relaxed. Now Deneuve has dried down, and is far more wearable. It was a monster of a scent for the first two and a half hours, and I would never put this on right before leaving the house, not without letting it "walk it off" and calm down. Sillage and longevity are both 8+, so it has that going for it if you love it. Safe blind buy for the typical perfume-loving grandma, but encourage her to apply it judiciously or she won't be getting many hugs.....

Thank you, Kterhark, for enabling me to try this much-beloved scent. I like Deneuve (parfum), but I agree that it has that "hairspray" note I find in a lot of older fragrances, especially greens and chypres. (Anybody know what that is? Is it supposed to be there or has some note in these older fragrances gone off?) After the hairspray dissolved, Deneuve reminded me very much of two other chypre scents which I have owned or currently own: Diva (which I loved but found unwearable on my skin), and Jacomo Parfum Rare. Deneuve was certainly beautiful and long-lasting. It has green notes and floral aldehydes, with just a hint of sweetness, drying down to a true mossy-animalic base. Given the similarity and affordability of the other two scents Deneuve resembles, especially Diva, I know now there is no need to run, run, run to ebay to pay ridiculous prices for a tiny bottle of Deneuve. (I will likely continue to walk, walk, walk to the antique store and thrift store and will snatch up a bottle of Deneuve if it turns up at a good price.)

This review is for pure perfume concentration. This fragrance is real class!!! very good chypre i must say, i am not fond of chypres, but this one is good indeed! Quite spicy and sharp at the opening with nicely blended green notes and basil it settles down into something refined and classy after a while. This is mature and grown-up chypre with a lot of moss and wood notes at the drydown. I don ́t get any rose inbetween, no hyacint, but more of the violet. The rose is noticeble in the drydown but very slightly. Sillage is GREAT, and lasting power is GREAT. As for me i think i really need to grow up still to use this one, maybe after a couple of years i will be mature enough to wear this. At the moment i will wear it only on special rare occasions preferrably on colder time of the year. A perfect haircut, expensive suit or strict dress and bold jewerly highly required to wear with it. Definitly a keeper!!!

Bon Vivant to Mme Deneuve for this Lovely Perfume this fragrance brings out her Personalty Cool refined elegant worldly sophisticated and French. Mrs Deneuve the Legendary screen goddess released her only fragrance Deneuve in 1986 the top notes first applied to my skin is an hearty note of greens crisp and bright with the coolly sophistication of Aldehyde; the heart notes dries to a scent of dry muguet Rose for an Powdery texture and grounded Orris for an earthy feel. I do smell a pervasive amount of Jasmine but the drydown is a bit oily but nice with Warm dry Sandalwood with a deep woodsy note of Oak moss musk for an masculine appeal and civet which i don't think it should be in this perfume but it is. I love Catherine Deneuve she brings French Elegance and Womanhood to the screen.

I wasn't sure what to expect from a perfume that in my mind, was supposed to live up to the epitome of French elegance and class herself. Now that I've smelled it, it makes sense. It is a lovely fragrance. This is a scent you can wear forever. There is nothing trendy here - no berries, no coconut, no candy notes, just pure classic sophistication. I detect mostly woods and green notes and some subtle florals. This is not girly, this is womanly. This is not for your silly moods, or when you're lounging around the house in your yoga pants. This is for when you want to make an impression, be taken seriously, or project an air of intelligence and mystery. Can a perfume do all that? I think so. I wouldn't mind having a bottle of this.

Yes, unfortunately edt does degrade easily and quickly. But the samples that are for sale in Ebay are parfum! Not edt, not edp, but the real thing! I couldn't believe my luck when I found 4 sample vials at a very reasonable price! I love this stuff! I did not know until recently that I have a high regard for chypres!

A great classic chypre perfume. Not for the rapsberry juice loving crowd who would call it a grandma's perfume, whatever that means.

Well I can say that I have discovered the most exquisite perfume of all time. More than two decades ago I was in a department store in Waterford, CT. There was this lovely perfume called Deneuve. I bought a bottle, went back and bought ten more, went back a few months later and bought 15 more and haven't been able to find it since. Today my daughter pointed me to several websites that have it. I searched high and low, New York to California, Paris to Nice, Milan to Sicily, Germany to Vienna, Rome to Madrid, Porto Alegre to Amazonas, and Joao Pessoa to Rio de Janeiro and always was a purchase away from the last bottle. I have been stopped by men around the world who say, "Miss, I am not being forward, but you smell heavenly." Always when this happened, I was wearing Deneuve. I found a few vials in Los Angeles and have hoarded it for special occasions since finding those at the Beverly Hill Perfumery. They were quite expensive but with this smell, and when I hit the lottery, I will buy all that I can find. I even learned to extend the fragrance with a "musk oil" (pure) that I dare not mention the name of, so that only I can, with my chemistry, recreate this fragrance. What is the distribution problem in the U. S? Anyway, for the most "heavenly" perfume of all times, try to find some Deneuve. I imagine it must mimic angel dust. You cannot duplicate the smell anywhere. Wish I could distribute it here in the US. It could turn this recession into quick upturn in the economy. You will never forget it and will search high and low for it forever. Liberte! Egalite! Deneuve!

Galbanum, sour oakmoss, and aldehyde. It's the oakmoss genre at max with that overdose oakmoss, with sour galbanum, aldehyde, bergamot, musk, & roses. I get later some ylang, lily of the valley, and more oakmoss. When it settles, i started to get heliotrope but remains overdosed oakmoss, & galbanum. I get the vibes of "Gucci 3", & "Silences" by Jacomo for that kind of sourness. Beautiful. Edit (02 Jan 2021) Just today when i saw the article of "Deneuve By Catherine Deneuve Review" by Sergey Borisov, i felt that i needed to revisit the blend once again. Now, the very very first top note spray gives the vibes of an 80s deodorant that will last around 15 seconds in and then softens into a floral body spray of hyacinth, galbanum, and a touch of aldehyde, and this lasts for sometime till the bergamot, oakmoss, and musk rises (around 5 minutes in) and goes light oily with a touch of powder (body talc) and more sour galbanum just like a lighter version of "Silences" by Jacomo. This is a beautiful 70s style blend going into 80s touch.

This perfume is unique in that the oakmoss and civet are usually in the dry down of most scents rather than the initial spritz. I get quite a decent amount of oakmoss( which is not my favorite scent but here its balanced by sweetness).The first 10 minutes is rather green but not in a dry way. After a while I get a sweeter civet/ animal musk with a cinnamon note almost similar to CK Obsession. The trurh is, on a test strip or fabric the drydown is much nicer and more sweet than on my skin. Maybe civet doesnt work with my chemistry. Its nit unpleasant but ut loses sone of the balsamic sweetness. So i use this one on ckorhes. Its more a retro scent certainly not fruity, gourmand or light but not as heavy or dusty as many older chypres. For me its one to wear on a crisp autumn day. I love to try discontinued scents esp from people as elegant as Catherine Deneuve. I'm sure she wore it well. It smells like vintage Estee Lauder rather than Avon.

Beautiful low sweet rich floral chypre. The green notes, aldehydes, neroli, bergamot and basil open with a brisk feeling of refreshing, confident chic. Lovely hyacinth and iris give a touch of cool, powdery feminine vanity dressing. The rose/ylang/lily swirl around pulling in natural floral sweetness and walk in the garden fresh feelings. Sensual and animalic with the civet, but not too dirty. Rich, dark, dense, complex vegetal green with the galbanum and oakmoss, yet not too bitter. Carnal and yet elegant at the same time. Moderate depth sandalwood/cedar and low key musk make for a comfortable base perfectly weighted to support the core without smothering it. This is wonderful. Easily polished and elegant enough for the office, and yet womanly and sensual to carry through with cocktails at eight. I love this!

This is gorgeous, a fragrance a lady can truly feel at home in and make her own. Deneuve makes me feel if vintage Miss Dior ( proper Miss Dior) and Chamade extrait had a love child, Deneuve would be it. I think Chamade extrait is possibly the closest to Deneuve, it has the freshness and light that’s not so evident in Miss Dior. Possibly the Deneuve craving can be appeased with trying Chamade for those who miss this beautiful scent. I also get a similar vibe from No 5 EDT and Ysatis. Like daffodils in the snow, Deneuve is bright yet chilly, but with a warmth and passion beneath, rather like the character of Severine in Belle du Jour. Somewhat icy and proper, but there’s a hidden rebel lurking within....It was well worth the money and the hunt.

This is a magic perfume! Yes, many people asked me what the lovely fragrance was that I was wearing. I had all the products--parfum, eau de parfum, the dusting powder, the body creme, body lotion, even a deodorant (which, I must confess, I used as a fragrance when my parfum ran out!). My absolute favorite was the body oil veil--so long lasting! I truly miss this perfume. Kudos to Smile4theCamera for contacting Ms. Deneuve. It is probably a very involved story behind the stoppage of this fragrance. I have seen many boards like this one where it consistently receives rave reviews. And the prices of even the smallest of amounts on eBay! If there is any glimmer of hope to re-release this perfume, please let me know. Merci!

(Imitation review) My review is of a perfumer's (DSH Perfumes) recreation of this scent, based on natural ingredients/high quality oils that best imitate the original. While i've never smelled the original, I have to say I LOVE this version. I was told that this contains Bulgarian Rose in the middle notes, and this is my favorite phase. The opening (Bergamot, maybe aldehydes? I forget the rest) is really gorgeous. Not so flowery that it offends, kind of has an oriental twist to it, a more 'earthy' floral opening. Can be bought in oil or EDP, and I bought the EDP version, which wears close to the body. Very lovely, and I'll be refilling my bottle on this one.

I wish this was still in production. But, I just bid on this so will see if I win. It's not something I would have worn a few years ago before I became acquainted with different types of perfume. I had some samples but used it have them away. Very subtly elegant, somewhat dry but not bitter green chypre scent. A bit of adelhydes. In the category of Rive Gauche and Paloma Picasso. I get a bit of Shocking as well. Being a fan of Deneuve herself I find this intriguing. Thought I reviewed it before but I guess not. I agree the best word to describe this is elegant.

I would love to find this fragrance simply because I love Ms Deneuve! Will begin searching... edit: I found some samples of this and its really unique, it has a very opulent sense like Opium but not spicy, definitely chypre. Though Avon made it originally it has the feel of an Estee lauder. It has good staying power. Its not like modern celeb fragrances in that its not candy, its slightly but its very French and classy. It has civet listed but thankfully doesn't make me sneeze :) Not like anything else Ive smelled!

When it first came out it took me by absolute surprise how instantly and how hard I fell for this one. I was expecting something light and floral, but what happened was a more of an earthbound floral with very sensual undertones. I was broke then, so worshipped from afar. I recently got a mini that has gone a little off, but the drydown is still a rich floral with heady civet, oakmoss, and musk undertones.

Expectation is so tricky. There’s so much hype around Deneuve that I’ve wanted to try it for the longest time. But now that I’m trying it, it’s everything I love about Sissi by Marc de la Morandiere, but sour. As if heavy smoker wore Sissi and then put the sweater they were wearing that day in a closet and left it there for years. Sour and a bit stale. Will try again, but am disappointed.

This was my signature scent for years. And then it was just gone... I've been trying to find something similar for a long, long time. I even wrote to Catherine and begged her to bring it back! "That's not likely to happen" she said. SAD. I have a tiny vial which I only wear for very special occasions now. Oh how I would love to wear it everyday again!

Deneuve was ALL I wore for years and it was lovely! EVERYONE would ask what lovely scent I was wearing. I do wish she would bring it back; I understand it was US tax problems that caused Ms. Deneuve to remove it from USA. There's absolutely NOTHING like it but someone please tell me if there is a scent close to it. southerngirl

Ever since I tried the knock off of this i've been wanting to try the original. Sadly, i'm not digging this too much. maybe i'm having a bad perfume day, but this is smells very strongly of hairspray on me. outdated sample? Perhaps. Take away: if you find a bottle on ebay, exercise caution before buying blind.

My best gal-pal wore this in high school. I bought and cherish still the .25 oz parfum I have. Truly a unique, elegant and seductive fragrance.
