31 Rue Gambon 7001, USD 159 for 185 ml. Bottle (EDP concentration) First Impression (unknow date) 31 Rue Cambon (for short 31RC) is very cleaver manipulating in modern perfumery. When first applied, my nose nostalgia reminds me of Aramis for a second, say Hi to me. “Hi, it’s me the Chypre, nice to meet you again” Please do not mislead as this smell like Aramis, I just have limited experience with this genre, but it do evokes my memory about style of perfumery that I smelled before. Now, 31RC starts almost immediately with the floral. Dominant by Iris & Ylang-Ylang, with Jasmine nuance. However, these flower are not sweet at all. It unknow undertone that I have hard time put correct word to use. All I know is 31RC takes really long time to develop, It can be almost 2 hours before the scent evolve fully. This is where you can truly enjoy : 31RC reminds me of the moment when late 40’s where all the storm are passed, fashion and passion are bloomed again. The room full with makeup smell, rogue, perfume and the traditional model are await to do they walk for the runway. To be honest, it is not the Chanel-estique (please look at No.22 instead for most Chanel-estique) but remind me of old pride fashion house as a whole, 31RC do right given the name of flagship store back in 1918. Definitely, it keep dawning me back and I will use repeatedly until I can unlock everything. And no, this scent is not old at all. ===== 31 Rue Cambon (Full Review on January 31st, 2024) My nose are slightly more maturing now, I know still long way to go. I feel like, I should do an extension of previous for correction of 31 Rue Cambon. 31 Rue Cambon is Powdery-French Labdanum chypre fragrance. Quality of French Labdanum is quite prominent from the get go. From my personal view. "French Labdanum" are smell like Leathery, dry amber with slight of Jammy Sweetness, mildly tart and tinge of green. I personally think a person who enjoy "Benzonin" would enjoy "French Labdanum", French Labdanum can go many way depending on composition. In this 31 Rue Cambon, use in classic Chypre manner, substitute the Oakmoss and cover most dirty aspect by Earthy Patchouli and Add Sweetness by Rose & Ylang Ylang. Woody note kinda smell like combination of Cedre and Sandalwood but only accord. Not like substance one. ========== Update 2 on February 29, 2024 So, today I just refresh update my post on 1932 (edt), I want to revisit and differentiate one from another. Quality of 31 Rue Cambon that differentiate herself the most is Patchouli quality and smooth Labdanum. This leads to Chypre quality, this is Chypre.. However, this is still Floral Chypre that carried on the heart of other signature Chanel floral beautifully. Especially the Ylang-Ylang quality, I will say it here again “Yellow Floral, Aldehydes and Signature Musk accord” is DNA of Chanel. Form all of 4 I tried to compare right now (Beige, 31 Rue Cambon, 1932 edt and no.22) I think this is the most formal one. It smells like early design of garment by Chanel herself. Enigmatic and Elegant. I would love to use 31 Rue Cambon on the formal day when I need Chanel. ===== Extension 2 : January 31, 2025 Recently the idea of find 31 Rue Cambon EDT is hunting me. Even, to be really honest, I am enjoying 31 Rue Cambon EDP as is. And assumably, I won't be so serious about reformation. (well, this is almost 10 years old). Perfumery is change, as we know. And market starts flood with sweet cutie strong scent. The appear of Strong Sour Labdanum, fade. Goes well as Vetiver that barely have an woody component. The dry Chalky Patchouli contrast (with I still insist) the most beautiful Ylang-Ylang. As anyone can't beat Chanel, Subsequent the Iris that feel both Lipstick and Green dry texture. The one I recall in 28 La Pausa. The wedding bouquet undertone, moist. Merry with one of I think, very Balsamic Labdanum. I need to bite my lip slightly, if I need to call this Chypre now. As I really enjoy oak moss in strong dose to be so call "Chypre". My bottle of Mitsouko EdC, always be there reminds me of Oakmoss can do in Hefty dose. But the way it sit on your skin 4-5 hours and still keep unfold story over and over. Sweet Strong and Stable, this Old way amber-floral fragrance truly warm and delight. As reminds me of no.22; how aldehydic Chanel can do. I lost my companion with No.22 EDP long-gone but I given how this fragrance. Construct using one my favorite construction. bottle 31 rue carbon always one of my choice. When I need Chanel in life. She convey most strong message from my choice of Les Exclusif. That last paragraph always bring me the good reason why I want to try EDT. But still, giving a time to scent itself. I will just enjoy my bottle of EDP. . . . . . ===== Pre blind-buy record (April 1, 2023) I decided to proceed a blind-buy on this while bidding this and La Pansa. 31 Rue Cambon seems speak to my need a bit better.. I personally love Rose, Jasmine, patchouli and Iris. And fairy get along well with Ylang-Yalang. I love Idea of deeper No. 19 EDP and I feel No. 19 is a bit flat (I tried Poudre version). Also few review, mention the most beautiful Iris, and I think of Dioramour, it’s also beautiful iris as well, but I it a bit too powder for me.

Leather, Civet, and Skin Musk, or Damn this is Illicit I think that there is a LOT going on here, more than the simple list of notes would convey. Actually I was blown away by how different this is from the EDT...they are definitely kissing cousins but this is not simply a stronger version of the EDT... Frankly this is a dirty perfume. A Sexy, Dirty perfume. On my skin it's all iris...iris surrounded by leather and skin musk and erotic pepper/21st century civet. 31 should only be worn past 10 o'clock at night it's that good...oh my I was not not expecting this at all. And that iris! My Lord is that a strong, almost fleshy iris! I didn't know that it was possible! Maybe it's just because it's layered with all those good old fashioned sexy notes that it comes across like that. I'm sorry that I'm just babbling about this but I don't think I've ever smelled an iris perfume like this...and damn that leather/skin musk...and the earthy dark pepper that turns almost into civet on my skin. This is dark as hell, achingly beautiful, and makes me feel like a sex goddess...and I don't usually throw the sex/perfume dichotomy around that often, but that's what 31 does on my skin. Okay, so the clinical part: The iris is front and center right away, and surrounded by the leather/musk/pepper...the ylang ylang is kind of weird on me. But good weird...it almost acts like an aldehyde, it is the highest-pitched note in 31, it lends a golden sheen of light and sweetness over all that leathery iris. But for me it's background noise. The ylang ylang does hold on for most of the life of the perfume and acts as that rounding note. The 'modern chypre base' starts to emerge after an hour or two, and earthy patchouli dipped in a ton of labdanum...very resinous, but still, it just drapes over the skin and behaves wonderfully. The rose comes out here as well, it is still not a star, but the iris does move to the side a little and a nice dark rose sits in with everything else. On the far, far drydown is patchouli, labdanum, iris, and woods. Interestingly enough, the drydown is cleanest part of the perfume. The leather/musk/pepper notes are gone by the time 31 fully dries down. This lasts at least 12+ hours on me, with say 3-4 good sprays. It's definitely not a powerhouse, but anyone who leans in will be able to smell you (and how sexy is that?) and I can smell 31 on me all throughout the wear, it's NOT so quiet that it turns into a wrist sniffer. So can you tell that I totally dig this? Lol. I guess I was just totally unprepared and delighted by how this works on my skin...it's earthy, sexy, and classy all rolled into one. And the lasting power is truly great, and worthy of being an Eau de Parfum. Now I wish I had gotten the ridiculously priced 200 ml bottle...

This is one of my favorites. I like it so much that I hesitated to add more praise among the chorus...I purchased my 75ml bottle during a rare department store sale and it was the last bottle. In my selfishness, I'd rather fewer people knew. I had originally been given a little 1.5ml EdP sample soon after the EdP Exclusifs launch with a different perfume purchase and fell in love with it. Convinced by all the people who lamented the EdT's demise, I sought it out thinking that the EdT could only be superior. To me, it wasn't...read the #3 review on here from the bottom ("TheFrenchMistress") as to why I wholly agree with her. I only liked the EdT while my love for the EdP endures. The EdT is more androgynous, whereas EdP does lean more feminine. I do think men can pull off feminine fragrances but personally I think the EdP suits women better. The EdT was a more austere, upright pepper-iris-amber scent and I often felt it didn't suit me or my mood...when I wasn't determined to be chic or uber-productive. The EdP is more lush, rounded, warmer, sweeter...and in my opinion just as luxurious without sacrificing the dignity and integrity of the original. The black pepper opening blast is less herbal and more tame (I love black pepper in perfumes.) There is more ylang in the EdP which gives it hints of banana custard without turning it gourmand or sugary. The patchouli nestled within the amber in the drydown is smooth and subtle. EdP is like a beautiful, well-bred lady who will not look down on anyone; she won't feel out of place being worn by a teenager or grandmother; and she won't announce herself too loudly to try to make herself the star of the show. I understand the perfumery criticism that 31RC EdP isn't distinct enough to be an Exclusif or a classic which spawns descendants. It's completely valid but that's why I love her. While fragrances like Coromandel (a crown jewel of the Exclusifs) are bewitching and fascinating - the incense smoke, white chocolate, patchouli are captivating - my GOSH do I find it annoying after too many hours of such complexity. I experienced the same with the original Angel EdT - tart berries, praline, patchouli cedar musk - when I wanted to study it, it kept my attention but when I wanted to focus on other things, it kept getting in my way. The final test of all...31RC EdP's faint smell on clothes the day after wear remain very welcome. You can re-spray her or layer on top a different perfume and she will get along well. Therefore, this one will always be a staple in my collection. Love.

I have wanted to sample 31 Rue Cambon for a long time. Named for Chanel's Parisian flagship store, it seems fitting that they saved this moniker for Chanel's take on a classic chypre. One of the best Les Exclusifs, 31 is reminiscent of several classics of the genre, while featuring the signature Chanel accord of rose, iris, and white florals at its heart. A little bit Mitsouko, a little bit Jubilation 25, 31 has a fruitiness at its opening stages, followed by the aforementioned bouquet. 31 opens with bright, joyful fruity notes, fresh citrus, sweet peach and a hint of peppery spice. There is a dewy greenness in the background, enhancing the freshness of the opening while giving greenery to the bouquet that follows. The florals emerge shortly afterwards, with smooth, sweetly tropical ylang ylang leading the way. Iris adds its distinctive powdery melancholy, but the rose that follows is the most prominent floral note to my nose, sweet, rich and gradually becoming more powdery as it develops. I get some jasmine too during the later stages. The chypre base emerges as it dries down, richly mossy and earthy, marrying beautifully with the rose in particular. It is beautifully rendered, as good as any vintage chypre base, but given the presumable absence of oakmoss, it is a testament to the skill of M. Polge. Labdanum adds a hint of sweet, amber-y, animalic richness to the drydown, enhancing the chypre beautifully. Sillage is moderate and longevity is pretty long-lasting. I am a lover of chypres, and this is one of the best I've tried. Classic and timeless, this is feminine in the traditional sense, but perfectly unisex in a modern manner. Utterly wearable and effortlessly chic, it delivers elegance for every occasion. For year-round use. Chypre by way of Chanel. 5/5.

When I sampled this in the San Francisco Chanel boutique, I knew instantly that I had to have it. Being on a modest budget, I took a sample vial home with me and spent some time with 31 RdC, which only confirmed my initial impression. After saving up, I opted for the large size bottle, and this fragrance remains my favorite Chanel to this day (followed closely by No. 19 EDP and No. 5 Eau Première). No. 19 does iris really well, pairing it with galbanum and water notes, but 31 RdC takes it in a totally different direction by combining it with patchouli. I've never been able to try the original EdT version, but I've seen it described as "funky." That kind of makes sense to me. Iris plus patch doesn't seem like the most intuitive couple, and the strange but elegant starchy-chewy-wet opening might be off-putting for some. But then the lovely trio of ylang, labdanum, and rose swoops in and adds lush florals and smooth, subtle resins. If the first stroke of genius was combining iris and patchouli, the second was combining iris and labdanum, each of which has a leathery quality that complements the other in the most magical way. This is, in my opinion, the best of the Exclusifs line, and definitely the most unique. Yet it retains that airy, chic element that Chanel scents have become famous for. The bottle is simple but striking, and the cap and sprayer are very high quality. Fairly unisex (leaning slightly more feminine), and appropriate for all seasons but high winter, since it won't open up properly in the cold and is a bit too cool/sheer for that. Slightly more formal, but with the right outfit, this could totally work for a casual drink in jeans. Bravissima, Chanel!

First spray of my blind-bought 31 Rue Cambon this morning and - relief! - I love it. 31 is a perfectly balanced, flawless (... nothing jarring or lacking) masterpiece. I wish I'd bought the 200ml bottle instead of the cautious 75ml, but there's always tomorrow. It opens with bergamot and a sweet citrus tsunami, like freshly-squeezed orange juice shot with warm pepper; all experienced in a crisp-green atmosphere of a dappled-shade meadow which has just been cut and smells of quintessential green. After about 10 minutes, green-tinged patchouli rises up to enhance the peppery-citrus and powdery iris wraps it all in a cloak. Ylang-Ylang surging up next, infusing the existing notes in a shaft of sticky, golden loveliness. This really is masterful and delicious. After half an hour the warm-crisp fusion is fully established and the fragrance is revealed as an Autumnal experience of jewel-like notes set in a green-infused dappled forest with that crispy, zingy atmosphere only experienced in the very beginning of Autumn. Perfectly balanced, utterly delicious, fascinating fragrance. I am already finding reasons to justify buying the 200ml bottle. It's inevitable. This is for the woman who says, “I know who I am; I know what I like.” She’s the woman you stared at when you were a kid because you wanted to grow up to be just like her. Stilettos, a trench, an up-do and red lipstick. This is a high class, old money chypre. I’m not an ylang person, but here, it’s neither overly animalic, nor tropical. (It does have some animalic qualities and could be perceived as a little vintage.) Whatever it’s doing just....feels right, combined with the powdery iris. This reminds me of Chanel #19 EDP, but elevated to the heavens. (That says a lot because I love 19.) This is definitely a chypre and definitely Chanel, so you have to like those two things. I cannot complete this review without commenting on the ridiculously low projection and longevity. You wear this one for yourself, and reapply often, to the degree you can afford to do so. I bought and have no regrets. Verrrry special and sophisticated to the hilt. Old money. Pure class. **I literally smell dollar bills in the base, in a great way. Crazy! This is treasured in my cabinet. So unique. Not a blind buy, but dang it’s worth the price! Also, if you want something lighter, 1932 is very similar and more bubbly.

An absolutely monstrous, ridiculous, fleshy sex-beast. I'm surprised I liked this so much - on paper this is a lot drier than on skin and doesn't bloom as beautifully. A lot of the pepper predominates on paper, as it does that first 30 minutes on skin. In the dry down and *on skin* (this scent is SO different on skin you absolutely must try it on skin), it turns into this indolic, very slightly human-secretion-like jasmine/ylang-ylang combination with luxe powderiness from iris. Something about the way the ylang-ylang is done here makes it smell fleshy, and almost like soft, skin-fat you can sink your teeth into. So so so so sexy, but absolutely not blind-buy safe. This perfume doesn't smell "clean"; quite the opposite, someone called it "supermodel sweat" - and while I don't get SWEAT from this, I get something skanky, sexual and floral. The sexiest Chanel I own by far - beyond Allure Sensuelle, any other Exclusif, Antaeus. Scent: 10/10, if it weren't obvious. The dry down is far better than the opening. Longevity: days on clothes, average on my skin Projection: average Polarity: Unisex to feminine

This mayn’t be popular: I find this Sublime. I have worked with the 200 mL bottle of the Eau de perfume for several years. It opens with a massive multiply complex blast of fruity ylang ylang jamine-y bubble gummy peachy fruity waxy iris powdery patchouli. It remains massively waxy-iris-fruity-peachy with powdery almost sweet patchouli for 8+ hrs on skin, 12+ hrs on cloth. Somehow this entire complex combination also smells like ylang. This is not a woody fragrance. It is a fruity balsamic Chypre. I get zero pepper or citrus. Nothing green. Balsams appear. This is what Chypre Palatin should be, and I love that fragrance very much. Ironically, the Chanel is much more cost-effective. 12++++ hrs later, my nearly anosmic mother smelled me and said, “you smell like powdery peaches.” it’s a waxy Iris peach with powdery patchouli and bubblegum ylang ylang. The sublime fragrance is totally wonderful and one of the most beautiful strange, odd unique Chypres I’ve ever smelled in my life. It is unbelievably tenacious on both my skin and my clothing with 4 to 6 sprays.

I'd tested the original Edt of 31 Rue Cambon and liked it, but it did not move me. Weak sillage and short-lived on my skin. Disappointed, but, so it goes. Recently, I've been going through a "Chanel Phase", enjoying "Boy" "No. 5 Premiere" and revisiting my vintage "No. 5 Perfume" a lot. So, I decided to make a leap of faith, and blindly order the re-issued, now in Edp form, 31 Rue Cambon. (This after reading and re-reading AveParfum's review many times. I've had several sprays of 31 RC on my skin for a few hours... I am delighted with it! Is is different from the original edt, but much more to my liking. The first thing I thought of was "Wow! Original "Ysatis"! And yep, the Ylang-Ylang in this is so good, it is just about perfect. A touch sweet, but not too much. There is also something growly here. Maybe it is the Patchouli working with the other notes, maybe that wonderful Ylang... but whatever, it is darn sexy! This is most certainly a fine Chanel, and a classic Perfume. Not for the men, in my opinion. Very female, quite luxurious. I am so happy!

My favorite description that i heard: "Sweaty supermodel scent" Amazing...simply amazing. Unisex 100%, i do not see this as feminine at all. This in fact, reminds me of Royal Oud by Creed in some aspects (mostly the zingy peppery citrus aspect). Citrus, pepper and woods, greenery and patchouli are what connects those two. Chanel is slightly more refined, more creamy, i guess thats the floral heart of it. This has a constant veil of black pepper surrounding it, black pepper never truly leaves. Also, i believe the pepper creates a slight sweat feeling, at least on my skin. Drydown is very earthy, spicy and woody. The drydown is in fact, genius, because it smells like the iris, ylang-ylang and rose are burned , better yet, smells like burned powder. Incredibly complex fragrance, since you can clearly tell it has 3 phases, and the transitions are perfected. (Drydown kind of reminds me of Le Lion de Chanel???). "Get out of my way" type of, no bs scent. - In conclusion - Chanel's most experimental, most left-field release, no questions asked.

I’ve been relatively lucky (or at least my wallet was) in that I’ve been so so on the Chanel Exclusif perfumes that I’ve tried...until now that is. This opens for me with aldehydes and white flowers - at first it smells like lily to me, stems and all, but then jasmine. None of which are listed, which is wild to me. I get no pepper and to the extent there’s bergamot, I couldn’t pick it out - it exists only to uplift the opening notes. Shortly thereafter I get the rose and ylang-ylang, but both are well blended before this becomes a mostly amber patchouli fragrance on me. I initially picked this up because I enjoy an iris scent, but I get very little of the iris until the far dry down. Just a lovely perfume that I find quite easy to wear. I felt comfortable wearing it in conferences with folks in close quarters today. Pretty pretty. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for a reasonably priced secondhand bottle, because frankly I find the price hikes on the Chanel Exclusifs ridiculous and borderline insulting.

To my nose, this fragrance is an iris-based dirty powdery boudoir style neo-chypre, especially in the dry down, with an indolic ylang-ylang note... It’s a scent you don’t describe so much as experience, and it moved me deeply. I called it incredibly erotic at first sniff, and later I was surprised to see others felt the same, because for some it might come off as too much of an ‘old-timer’ fragrance. What stands out most to me, however, is the ylang-ylang, despite it not being officially listed; and it’s distinctly indolic. The iris is superb and dominant, walking a fine line between elegance and dirtiness. I also detect labdanum with a subtle leather nuance, and patchouli woven in quietly, never shouting for attention. For days now, I’ve been spraying and sniffing it obsessively. To me, this is an extraordinary fragrance; one that blurs the line between refinement and intimacy, tradition and provocation. I thought I'd revisit these revamped releases of the les exclusifs, not that I paid them enough notice in the first place to get any discernible difference but hey. Now something about Iris and Ylang Ylang (individually) is really working for me recently, Iris isn't a shock but ylang is, as it wasn't usually something I'd say I enjoy. The opening is green, slightly musky, floral but not overtly and has the smooth exoticism you'd expect. The drydown is pretty woody and with a delicate hint of earthiness from patchouli showing yet another example of just what a great perfumer Polge is...although was it his son who did this? Anyway...Do not be fooled by the notes because this is not a typical experience nor is Rue Cambon a typical Chypre in the sense that it's very unisex, and quite woodsy in the drydown. It sits quite low but you can smell it and lasts pretty well, I really liked it.

Simply captivating. So complex; I want to say seamless but 31 Rue Cambon has so much masterfully stitched structure – very couture. Many are referencing Mitsouko, but on my skin, this plays like vintage Samsara (I went through bottles in my late teens – I was that girl). However if vintage Samsara had a légère version, this would be it, much like how No. 5 Eau Premier is to No. 5. Green, woody, textured on top, fleshy and full in the middle. Like cracking open a jackfruit and biting into the juicy fibers. There's some elegantly erotic tension here. Classic Chanel to open with an aldehyde quality, spice and mossiness. Then 31 starts to pulse slowly with a deep, mellow timbre in a 10-karat shade of gold. Ylang ylang, jasmine, and a hint of velvety, bitter citrus pith. A want to wear this expertly man-handled wooded floral sap everywhere.

A stunning quasi-chypre from Chanel’s Exclusifs line. On my skin, 31RC opens with pepper, aldehydes, and tea-like bergamot—sparkly and quite fresh, before settling into a wonderful mix of powdery iris and lush ylangylang. The iris is absolutely perfectly done here, slightly cosmetic, cool and powdered—light purple entwined with yellow florals. The dry down is where you get the patchouli and amber base, almost honeyed, with a bit of powder still glimmering atop. There’s something very buttery, sultry, and fleshy about this—which reminds me of Chanel’s Bois Des Iles (EDP not Parfum), with iris and patchouli here taking the place of sandalwood. It has a very similar “feel.” Chanel, PLEASE release a parfum version of this. It would be so wonderful in a rich, concentrated extrait format.

This is truly a proper perfume which fits the term, they just don’t make ‘‘em like this anymore. And, how did it take me so long to find this flawless perfume? Yes, it may be linear, but linear works when you find perfection. I purchased this at Neiman’s yesterday hoping I made the right choice low and behold came home to get a full wearing and I finally found my favorite Chanel Exclusive. I have several and this takes tops them all. This is so long lasting and the most important part of this perfume is that I can smell this on myself the entire duration of the wear which is what I look for in a fragrance. To me, this is slightly aromatic, slightly spicy, slightly animalistic and all together still clean. A true gem was just added to my collection.

Where to start, dunno. When I wear this scent, I feel myself obliged to wear tailored suit! 100% unisex more on masculine side. When I wear this, I feel clean, organized, solved all problems but underneath dangerous. I do suggest men at least try this scent and let it couple of hours before judging. Very well done Chanel after Sycomore ( well done vetiver) and Coromandel ( exquisite patchouli) this is the scent that I adore. 10/10 and for longevity and sillage, longevity is good enough 8-10 hours sillage is moderate but what I realized that whole life span of this scent sillage is 90% same which I was looking for. My new and forever signature scent.

This is stunning. A true masterpiece from Chanel. The opening is a gorgeous burst of green, citrusy goodness blended with black pepper. As it settles the Iris comes to life with bursts of soft florals and the green notes lingering in the background. The woody and earthy patchouli takes over in the base with warm, powdery undertones that create a divine scent. This is retro chic (in the best way possible). It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I highly recommend trying it on your skin in the colder months and see how it comes alive. It’s effortlessly elegant and perfect for daytime use and date night. 10/10. It’s a must have for me.

This is so good! There's a state of mind that accompanies this scent. Serene and in control. I blind bought this hoping I would love it. I watched YouTube videos and scoured the web for reviews to get an idea of how it would smell. It is slightly vegital and sharp in the opening but still really pleasant. Then it settles into something more warm and balsamic. Coromandel is my all time favorite and the dusty delicious patchouli in this is very similar to the pach in Coromandel. I also love allure sensuelle but even with the a.s. lotion, it never lasted on my skin. 31RC does though. And I smile every time I get a whiff!

I think this has, while losing it's quirky EDT opening, gained more appeal for a bigger audience. I fell in love with the furry dirtiness that the EDT gave me, but this is almost the exact same from there on in. As I've come to understand chypre fragrances more over time, this has become more and more special to me. Regardless of the ingredients used, this is a true chypre. Not a 'modern chypre'. It smells of the fresh coolness that oakmoss can represent, while also offering some warmth and distant natural qualities that one might come to expect from Chanel. A true modern classic. I love it, and need it.

I forgot how beautiful this is! Wow! It opens with a bang of pepper but softens into an Irish powdery scent. I”ve had this for years but was gatekeeping not sure why, I guess my worry was that it would be discontinued. Anyway I love that it’s timeless and such an easy fragrance to wear unfortunately it is a bit pricey but oh well. This is definitely a unisex anyone can wear fragrance and on me this last 12 hours easily. Sillage is a beautiful Irish powder trail with sophistication. Highly recommended for the fragrance lover and collector! Wow this so classy! This is the perfect time of year to wear this!

A glamorous yellow floral, woody patchouli chypre. Ylang-ylang with patchouli and thick orris root seamlessly blended into a single, near-linear accord. Some vetiver appears as it settles and the supporting labdanum and bergamot play their respective thickening and brightening roles. On skin this sinks in exquisitely to leave a rich, hovering cloud of soft, almost mossy iris and banana-ish ylang with the tell-tale Chanel musky soapiness. It's both ravishing and hypnotic, a full-on statement chypre. Almost too perfectly polished. One to dress up for.

Chanel 31 Rue Cambon (2007) - floral chypre - #jacquespolge get’s inspired from Chanel’s haute couture and I get that. My note breakdown might sound simple, but I can tell you - it’s construction is so complex and transitions so tight, that it’s hard to make individual notes. Starts with a radiant Bergamot opening, but quickly come the florals: Iris, Ylang-ylang, Rose. I also get a mushroom note that I also get from Chanel’s coco. It’s complimented by a chypre base that’s heavier on the Patchouli and amber accords. One of Jacques’ best work.

This is a beautiful floral woody perfume with a burst of happy greenness. I do not read this as a chypre or a patchouli. Maybe the edt version was. It has that heartbreaking beauty that I also experience with Bois des Iles, and a touch of that warm coziness I get from Coromandel, my other favorite Chanels. The beginning is just stunning! Distinct from the other exclusifs, but keeping with that Chanel sophistication and quality. This is a perfect any occasion scent. Non offensive but also beautiful and complex enough to be interesting.

I’ll start by saying this fragrance is just about perfect for me, in ways that are hard for me to adequately describe. The opening has almost minty green notes and bergamot. The iris, which I love, can be noticed throughout. I have trouble picking out other specific notes, but the pepper, wood and patchouli add nice complexity to the iris. I’m not sure how to express it, but to me it just smells *good*. It makes me happy to catch whiffs of it throughout the day. This has very good longevity on me, 1-2 sprays will last 12+ hours.

Perhaps fragrantica should have an award category called 'beyond Mitsouko'? After about 30 mins the iris comes through which softens the initial chypre punch. It is truly beautiful. So far removed from modern aromachemical blues, sugary florals or boozy gourmands, it would be difficult to measure. 31RC joins Rogue's Chypre Siam, Grossmith's Hasu-no-Hana, Francesca Bianci's Etruscan Water and MDCI's Chypre Palatin in my 'beyond Mitsouko' category. An enduring love for me. 5/5

This is a love for me. I would actually say signature scent worthy. I’ve been stuck on vanilla dominant fragrances lately but transitioning into spring & summer in California, I can see myself wearing this a lot. 31 Rue Cambon has amazing longevity on my skin. About 10 hours. I’ve struggled with finding a “chypre -type” scent I can actually wear. Mitsouko was too challenging, Aromatics Elixir way to heavy on the patchouli...this is just right 10/10

I really don’t want to give this its flowers (pardon pun 😆) but this SLAPS! Unisex/masculine. At least for me and as an initial impression. White, crisp, button up... brown v-neck cashmere sweater... grey, silk-wool blend, nappy slacks... loafers... man, i can make this work! So far, it seems like a little goes a long way but stay tuned for my long term take. My opinion is based off of an official sample received from a boutique in Manhattan, NYC.

Refinement and pure elegance! Discrete and persistent, Sa Majeste - Iris - in her finest truest form. Minimalistic but complete, light green aldehydic and powdery flowers that drydown in 3 hours to a perfect warm iris scent with amazing longevity, still lingering in my hair and on my skin for over 12 hours. PS: I thought....I found my all-time love. Unfortunatelly I seem to develop pretty nasty headaches each time I wear it. So very sorry...

just... wow! very smooth yet regal. the pepper gives it a hint of masculinity despite the abundance of flower. the animalic base reminds me of antaeus. a classy, classy scent edit: this, and boy are so potent! if ur looking for les exclusifs with strong performance, choose this or boy. theyre even more potent than my beloved coromandel. none of them are cloying. theyre all very beautiful!! am in love even more with my les exclusifs

this is not a subtle perfume. not meant for wallflowers (like myself) hence not suitable for me to wear around people, esp at work. but for a night out, boy what a mystical magical creature this is! loud, verging to becoming obnoxious but dose it right, its like a spicy flowery bouquet surrounding u. perfume that makes statement, sometimes before ur arrival lol so wear with caution

This is absolutely unisex. The luscious iris wafts on top of patchouli and wood with exquisite rose underneath it all. A woman here told me to sample it, and I'm so grateful. This is near the front of my want list. I love the Les Exclusifs line. The quality cannot be questioned. A single spray on my throat lasts all day.

I have the EDP. I have succumbed to 31 Rue Cambon!! I can’t get enough of the rich powdery scent! Sharp cologne opening. Then a powdery iris shows up which further transitions into a rich, warm, powdery woody intoxicating scent. . . Lovely, sophisticated scent. The warm powdery drydown lasts forever.

31 rue Cambon embodies the Chanel identity, there are too many facets, I feel no5, coromandel at times it's too complex. You really have to put your nose to the grindstone to understand it and have a bit of knowledge of the brand to see what I mean. It's a real work of art. Thank you Mr Polge

It is a lovely chypre, with indolic, creamy jasmine and ylang-ylang dominating. In the dry down, the Chanel DNA comes through loud and clear, with passing resemblances to No 5 and No 19. The sillage and longevity are impressive. With that said, as lovely as it is, the price is indefensible.

I am comparing EDT and EDP side by side on my wrists. I have both. YES, they are a little bit different. EDT opening is more interesting. Not ruined, still a gorgeous modern chore. LOVE! Paid $201 including shipping for a full used EDP 200 ml. ebay March 2019 Worth every penny.

No sparkling, funky, bittersweet, addictive opening like the EdT. This goes straight into a more rounded base which is still gorgeous ofc. Not as unisex anymore as before, so another no-no for me. This one definitely lost a lot of it's power and character. Gimme back my EdT!!

I love 31 Rue Cambon more than is reasonable. After working my way through a decant I have succumbed to the siren call of a full bottle. This is elegance and class...this is old money, but gracious and well mannered rather than snooty and cold.

Do you know when something smells effortlessly chic, retro (in a good way), expensive and classy? Well, that’s how 31 rue Cambon smells like. Not very chypre-y to my nose; it’s more like a good old-school perfume that smells like $10000!

Almost Tutti-Fruity woody ambery earthy bubble gummy. But at the highest level. What’s not to love? Criminally underused. This is so tasty yet classy. It’s a less ambery and more abstract Chypre Palatin, though not as strong.

My bio states that I hate patchouli dominant scents... Chanel, I stand corrected and humbled... I think I found the first exception. 31RC is absolutely lovely and wearable, for any occasion.

This is absurdly delicious, Tutti Frutti, ambery sweet Chypre. No, it doesn’t have ethereal Oakmoss or dark forest notes. It’s all Spirit. An elevated amber fruity floral. Very fruity.

The Chypre of Chanel. Elegant, chic, vintage, classy, Parisian! Pepper at the start, then iris, ylang ylang and patchouli. Gorgeous!

Surprisingly, three sprays was too much for me this morning, I prefer it also worn at the wrists.

A comparison between EDT and EDP of 31 RUE CAMBON: The two formulations are certainly different. The EDP is still 31 Rue Cambon, but I don't notice the contrast of the dusty patchouli with tangy, fresh citrus notes as much as I do with the EDT, and that is the particular thing about the EDT I love so much--the contrast. At first I got scared because the EDP seemed a bit generic. Think Coco Mademoiselle EDT without any peppery notes. Is this really a Les Exclusif, I thought? I won't go so far as to say I was "let down," but I did wonder if I would find anything about the EDP to love. Well, I did. About 2 hours into the wearing it is when the heart of patchouli really shined. About 5 hours into the drydown, I noticed a woody scent. I don't recall smelling anything distinctly woody in my EDT at any point. It's a nice wood, too, that reminds me of oak. It's soft, but it's there. After 8 hours of wear, the perfume is faint, but the oak-like note is the dominant note. I very much dislike a lot of citrus in my perfumes, but I bought the EDT because it just seemed so modern and incredibly stylish to me. I picured models in a black & white photo shoot in front of the wrought iron gates of a French chateau. Modern baroque. With the EDP, the imagery is different, more mundane. More for running errands or wearing with jeans and a cute top. Don't get me wrong, I like both formulations, actually. The EDP lasted 8+ hours with one spray to each wrist. I know I said that initially I felt that the EDP resembled Coco Mademoiselle EDT without the pepper, but the woody base won me over in the end. My chemistry didn't pick up much floral, mostly very strong bergamot, patch and woods. I have ylang ylang essential oil, and I get absolutely zero ylang ylang in this perfume. I don't get any banana or fruity notes, and personally I never thought ylang ylang smelled fruity at all, so I guess it's all about personal perception (of course it is--it's perfume!) I like both versions, but I still slightly prefer my EDT because it makes me feel really stylish. If there are folks out there who aren't already familiar with 31 RUE CAMBON, I would still wholeheartedly recommend sampling the EDP. It's still very elegant, very CHANEL and is not crap perfume by any means.

This is much, much lighter and pungently citric than I expected. At first spray I was tempted to be disappointed with such an expensive blind buy (no Chanel boutique for hundreds of miles, so I’m dependent upon reviews), but I let it settle for a little while and I like it better. A chypre? No way. For me, it’s a very light floral, in the vein of Guerlain Chamade. Slightly retro- it certainly reminds me of a perfume I have smelled on a great aunt and grandmother in the 80s- but also coldly and cleanly modern. More in the vein of Jersey and Beige, which I don’t like too much, than the heft of Coromandel and Cuir de Russie which I absolutely adore. I’m an iris and patchouli fanatic and from the ratings and reviews this seemed such a sure thing, but I’m definitely getting ylang and citrus and not much else. If I had been able to test this I would not have purchased it but having said that, I actually do imagine wearing this a decent amount, but it definitely isn’t going to be finding a top shelf spot in my wardrobe any time soon. Upside I guess (?) is longevity is very poor especially for this price point so I’ll get through the bottle fairly quickly.
