Chanel No 5 Hair Mist

I have the older version bottle , with black top and gold middle over glass , now discontinued and replaced, by cute tall pink juice bottles . These older 35 ml glass gold/ black bottles look so pure Chanel 80/s 90/s elegance, the bottle is curved for comfort in the hand very chic & classic. I think the mist kinda matches the soap scent fairly well but in fairness I've found all the bath and body products vary a little in fragrance. All with same DNA but some products lean more towards the parfum/ edp and some seem sweeter like the eau premiere. This mist being an older formula it's more towards the edp though a slightly softer sweeter version. Soft silky mist, but 35 ml won't last me long ! Why don't they come in much bigger sizes than 35 /40 ? Still nice enough but perhaps you could just spritz a little perfume and encounter no problems / hair damage ? Personally I find this mist ok to use as perfume too, so it's less expensive I suppose by a bit. Strangely there's slight difference between the much older clear gold and black lid bottle and slightly older frosted glass version which I believe came out just before the latest one in the picture above. I find the oldest one slightly sweeter and the frosted glass one more aldyhidic and also muskier. Both are lovely though and the average time on skin is a 3 to 4 hours then where it's softer than actual perfume it fades out . Still for any no 5 chanellies that love anything no 5 (mee lol) it's a nice item to own ,tiss all part of the ritual that is NO 5 !! For me a hot bath with the foaming no 5 and the soap is just yummy, Then I get out and dust myself with puffs of body powder and top up with Pure parfum and hair mist ! Mmmmm !! I'm waiting on some no 5 voile re parfum , lol posh for body spray so I'll let u know what it is like as it's discontinued and hardest to come by. If only I could lay my hands on some bath oil at a good price , for now I will dream about it :)

I love it and am conflicted. No. 5 Hair Mist, if you regard it as a standalone scent, is the No. 5 from an alternate universe. A universe where Coco Chanel didn't buck the norms of putting "appropriate" flowers for women in her hallmark perfume release. Before the advent of No. 5 ladies were directed to wear violet, iris, rose, lavender. The No. 5 we've come to know was paradoxical for showcasing what at the time were considered vulgar, sensual flowers - ylang-ylang, neroli, jasmine - while still endowing the wearer with indisputable class. The scent profile of the Hair Mist, however, turns that on its head, as if Chanel didn't start a perfume revolution: it's characterized by a decidedly Victorian rose and iris, even violet that doesn't appear elsewhere in the No. 5 range. It's classy but not revolutionary. It's No. 5 without the rebellion. Really all it's meant to do is augment the wearing of the perfume with a powdery veil of scent on the hair, but worn as a standalone scent, I can't help but slump in knowing that it's veered off course from the No. 5 legacy. Don't get me wrong, it's the most decadent aldehyde-rich powder puff. I love wearing it; it's got Chanel DNA through and through. The bottle (I have the one pictured) is perfection, with pristine frosted glass and a goldtone medallion on the top of the round lid. The scent graces the wearer with an aura of cleanliness and beauty. It's just not meant to be taken as the embodiment of No. 5 historically. A year or two ago the bottle was redesigned to match the apothecary-like bottles of the rest of the line (yet less attractive), and now it's already unavailable on the website. Is it done already? Sad, it could have made a great flanker actually. I would buy more of this if available.

The scent of the hair spray is gorgeous like a cross between the matching No 5 lotion and the EDT without the heavy aldehydes. It lasts long in the hair with gentle sillage. Wish that Chanel could make a perfume out of this with the exact scent! Just realised ive already written a short review of this lol.

Pure and simple powdery rose. Very soft, sophisticated and ladylike. I've used it for over a decade. I recommend layering it with a tobacco scent for an extra Old Hollywood glam kick.

Very pretty light scent not the powdery type in No 5 perfumes. I wish Chanel could make a proper perfume out of this!

This scent smells very true to the original perfume. It's slightly more clean. I love it!

If you love Chanel No 5 EDT you most likely will appreciate this hair mist. Don't buy it without testing if like me you prefer more EDP, Parfum and Eau Premier versions. I cannot detect any flowers in the current Chanel No 5 Le Parfum Cheveux (pictured on the top of this page), only same aldehydes, mustiness and bitterness prevailing in EDT. The longevity is weak.

No 5 Hair Spray This is No 5 in the most modernized and minimized form. This is not my mother's bottle of Chanel No 5 Eau de Parfum which sells at every Macy's I've walked into. This is stripped of the bigger green notes and musk scents of the original and has a clean shampoo and conditioner hair spray cosmetic air. Smells like a soft body powder and hair mist rolled into one. It's got a sweet powdery rose and a light jasmine with perhaps some dry down of detectable vanilla and the slightest faintest traces of sandalwood. The bottle comes in a light pink liquid and cannot be mistaken for Chanel No 5 in the least. I love to put this into my handbag and spray my hair when I am needed for a photo shoot or an interview. This is very sweet and feminine when compared to the mature orignal No 5. I like to think that this scent is a really good intro to No 5 for young girls who are curious about it but don't want to jump into it right away. Wear this as a sampler and then try the richer more complex and fully formed original and then decide if No 5 is for you. No 5 is a polarizing scent but everyone can agree that this version is much more wearable. It's good for spring and summer months, warm and cool weather, and feels fresher and good for going out in the morning after your shower with clean freshly laundered clothing. It's pretty and though not long lasting it has a pleasant scent that can be detected by others if they sit next to you. In addition it's good for wearing after you have put on a similarly floral shampoo with rose peony or jasmine scents.

No 5 Le Parfum Cheveux I found this baby at the Chanel store in Paris and I was intrigued by it. A hair mist version of No 5? Turns out it does work very well as hair spray! I love the fresh opening of aldehydes and that zesty energizing mist that follows and sticks to your hair. It is actually quite clean and youthful without the musk and the chypre green notes of the original No 5. This is mainly citrus and flowers. Opens with aldehydes like I said which in hair spray form or hair mist is quite invigorating and very refreshing. The orange scent (neroli and bergamot) come through so nicely. Smells good just after you've had your shower and you've dressed and you want to put on some hair spray to make your hair smell as good as the shampoo you used. That being said this would smell better when you've used a floral based shampoo and not a fruit based shampoo. Smells of rose and jasmine. This is a soft and silky very pretty flowery feminine fragrance. Normally I don't stick to wardrobes of floral perfumes and they are in my collection of perfumes. I have them by category: floral, Oriental, chypre, musk, modern, etc. This one is quite a good take on No 5 but watered down and more fresh than powdery. It's also not soapy but definitely matches up with the toilette/toiletry associations we have with No 5: a luxurious body soap and powder. This is the hair spray to go with it! Good job Chanel.

This is just beautiful. I feel so glamorous like Marilyn spraying this in my hair :) As previously mentioned in reviews by others, this is the younger and more accessible side of No 5. To compare it with the opposite end of the spectrum being the Cologne which while still pleasing is more bitter and civet laden than this rose enhanced interpretation. Yet and still, they all sing the No 5 song, just in different keys. Chanel is unique in how well it manages challenges thrown its way particularly with its pillar fragrances, such as forced reformilation of No 5, and, secondly, keeping No 5 relevant and popular ensuring its appeal to old and new fans alike without losing their audience. I feel a great deal of effort has respectfully gone to achieving this very objective and it shows. Chanel No 5 hair mist can be used as I do in conjunction with my Chanel 5 range of perfume, soap, body lotion and shower gel, or it can be bought by those new to the world of Chanel who perhaps aren’t in a position to fork out for the perfume. I can imagine as a younger girl I would have jumped at the chance to own this enjoying the No 5 DNA in an expertly crafted hair mist. Kudos where it’s due, Chanel has succeeded in bringing No 5 to the modern age and hasn’t lost its original fan base. Highly recommended.

The Chanel hair mists are excellent so far from what I have experienced and far superior to other hair mist products from different designers. They don’t upset the hair or cause any visible effects and the sillage and longevity is very good for something so much less costly than the perfume (for instance, my Jo Malone wild bluebell hair mist makes my hair look a bit sticky and is nowhere near so fine a mist). I would compare this mist to the Chanel no 5 EDT. This is a very accessible avenue to enjoy Chanel no 5 and I would recommend for EDT or L’eau lovers especially. I enjoy all iterations of Chanel no 5 but the EDP is not in my budget currently and an opportunity came up recently to buy this product cheaply. This gives me the hit of no 5 I need occasionally and does not feel as oppressive as wearing no 5 EDP in all its glory. I find this very comforting and am enjoying spraying it before bed this evening. Highly recommend.

I agree with the reviewer below that this hair mist is a corresponding product of the No. 5 Eau de Toilette. There is nothing powdery going on like how it is in the EdP, not a hint of the vanilla as in the Eau Premiere, and no zesty citrus as in the L'eau. It is Chanel-aldehyde forward and striped of any animalic connotations. Fresh roses and woods linger in the background.The result is a sharp, soapy scent with added elegance. It is not sweet at all. On hair it lasts for about 2-3 hours and on skin a little longer.
