Enjoli

This is a bright floral green aldehyde on me. It opens with a burst of fresh airy aldehydes and slowly settles into a bright floral heart, eventually settling into a woody green, slightly mossy base. I find this to be a cool bright fragrance, with equal doses of flowers and green leaves. I can detect a bit of oakmoss here, but its not heavy, so it never feels too heavy or mossy, but maintains a green brightness. I think it's recognizable as coming from a certain era, as I can't think of any current fragrances that smell like this.

Another blast from the past! My brother gave this to me as a gift back in high school when it was brand new. I loved the ultra feminine but not too floral scent. The fragrance lasted for a long time too. UPDATE: If you are looking for a vintage bottle of this, beware. I was overjoyed because I found one on EBAY. When it arrived, I couldn't wait to smell it. It was really rank smelling : ( I don't know if it doesn't age well or if it wasn't stored properly. I won't be taking any more chances buying "vintage" scents.

Another Gem, that I remember growing up in the 80s because my mother always managed to keep a bottle of this perfume, and I remember always sneaking to spray some of this on, at just 13 or 14 years old. I thought it smelled so mature and grownup ,at the time, and was so excited when she bought me my own bottle. Till this day I will never forget this beauty , and remember some years back I was able to find a small spray bottle on Ebay. I was so excited to see that someone still carried this perfume.

I picked up a bottle today - my local Big Lots had a bottle for $6, so ... I took a sniff, was happy with what I smelled and brought it home. I get a lot of spice - such as carnation, orchid, tuberose, etc. - and of course the amber, and the sandalwood, maybe a bit of the oakmoss. I don't get much in the way of sweet florals, just the spicy ones. But that's the way I like it - on me, then, it is basically an Oriental floral or Spicy Floral or whatever the correct way to put that would be.

This is one of my first perfume loves. I wore the hell out of this one. The green feminine powdery, spicy jasmine is second to none and what sets it apart. Its a little bit floral, little green, little oriental with its ambery spicy musk. Its a little bit rock and roll, but not over done. It just plain works for me. I picked up 1/8 of the perfume and recognized it instantly. I'll put some on and bring home the bacon baby!!! Lol

Reminds me of Forever Krystle, but So much better. That had mimosa and musk. This (regardless of the notes) says spices and musk and gorgeous mimosa. Perfectly balanced. I refer to a vintage cologne formulation. While it is not longer lasting than most colognes, OH if they just released colognes like this at drugstore prices now! Charming. If you want time travel, this is IT.

This was a real winner back in the day. Men loved the scent on women and women just loved it. Too bad it's gone and no longer available.

Not to long ago, suppressed by the heat of summer, and drenched with the melancholy of lost youth, I began drudging up the past by way of lost olfactory delights. My latest find was a wee-little bottle of Enjoli, marked down to half its stature for a buck fifty. Helplessly drawn to a bargain, I clutched the little guy and headed for the register. Fresh mint tea in hand, I began the forensic search into its contents and origins. While this may seem tediously boring to some, it delights the very fabric of my makeup, and harks into some deep RNA coding for research savvy. Let's leave it here by saying, it's a family tradition - we bleed data points. Now we enter the part of the review that may cause discomfort amongst some. Be advised that this review is not a personal assault on your preferences. It is a humble opinion meant to share and stir thought, just in case you were itching to pop somebody's balloons. Balloons on this site, by the way, are the only form of currency one can purchase an ounce of validation with. So, be kind beautiful people. I am instantly struck with a sense of deja vu with each spray. It is starting to seem as if any given woman wearing perfume in the late seventies and into the eighties, smelled just like this. Minus a few exceptions, we have the following choices: Maternal Powdery slumber scents (think Sweet Honesty), Wildly Spicy Feminist Fragrances (like Opium), and Powerfully Punctuated natural perfumes (pick a chypre - any chypre will do), synthesized with whopping assertions of aldehydes. Enjoli is certainly no exception. Even if their advertisement heralded an eight hour performance. Any woman should be so lucky! That alone had to push them off the shelves - am I right ladies? (wink). Nuances of peach, hiacynth, orchid, and such, are lost under a synthetic blanket. "(blank) notes" in the list of ingredients always inspires me to look around the room. At a particular point, there is no point. The sniffer has gone stale, and one is left dutifully nodding to each note. Orris root (nodding), sure. Tuberose - really? Why not. Cedar (shrugging) I guess anything is possible. Sometimes, I spray and sit myself in front of a fan, just to reach the dry down faster. Like reading the last page of a novel first. What can I say, I'm a glutton for immediate gratification! And... ...Boy oh boy! Does this ugly duckling its way into being quite a beauty! Vanilla, amber, musk and moss, all reach center point in unison, for one distinct final moment that is definitely worth the wait!

Over the years I've added a lot of perfumes to my collection, unfortunately I'm rather unorganized. I take care to store the fragrances cool, dry and dark, but I've never made a list of what I have. So it came as no surprise to find a bottle of Enjoli parfum at the bottom of the perfume drawer: out of sight, out of mind. In any case, E. is a real find. The parfum is definitely vintage by age and composition, well blended and adult feminine. E. reminds me a bit of Lanvin and even Ysatis at the opening. E. settles in quickly with modest sillage and decent longevity, the 8 hr performance appears to be hype. As much as I like this scent I'll have to use it sparingly. Even partial bottles command a high price, esp. for a vintage drug store fragrance.

I used to wear this in the late 80's. It was a strong perfume. Sort of a classic. All these reviews say it has been reformulated. Sad. Of course it probably wouldn't be quite my thing anymore anyways.

My mom's signature fragrance for years, and my dad was madly in love with her always, but especially when she wore this. This will always remind me of my mom hugging me. <3

It was my first teen fragance... no more words, I Love it

i found a full vintage bottle on a roadtrip at a thrift store. (those are some of the happiest words a perfume lover could ever write.) anyhoo, i remember the name/bottle from back in the day, but don't recall if i had smelled it. at first spray it's quite green and smells very familiar. it's green notes, oakmoss and some hyacinth. later on, after maybe 15 minutes, the greenness dies down a bit and i get tuberose and sandalwood along with some of the other base notes. it has changed quite a bit from the beginning and there is a hint of spice from carnation. dries down to a pretty floral with warming notes.

I remember this scent from an aunt. She used to use a lot of the juice and on top of this, she was a smoker at the time(and most likely still is, unfortunately) so we all could smell this before she even walked up. I really wish I had the chance to experience this scent without all the harsh smokers smell. But all in all, I think the notes are very feminine and I'd love to try a sample one day. I sadly dislike this one, as it's just so harsh and I prefer something less in people's faces, if that makes sense.

Reviewing - A vintage ebay purchase, not sure of the year. This is not my favorite thing, its a little to strong with the amber, peach, vanilla and jasmine vibe. I liked it better when first sprayed but the dry down is defiantly a peachy-amber mess that does not work well on me.

I was around10 years old when this perfume came out and I remember seeing the commercials on TV all the time. I was seduced by the strong female lead in the commercial bragging about how she could bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan and never let her man go unsatisfied LOL. It was a powerful message and I wanted to be that woman, she could do it all, have a career and a husband as well all while looking breathtakingly beautiful. I begged to have this under the tree for Christmas. I woke up that morning and when I opened one of the boxes Enjoli was inside. I was so over the moon happy. Then I sprayed the perfume and that happiness came crashing down faster than an avalanche. The smell was not at all what I was expecting, I should've learned my lesson there that I do not like aldehydic perfumes. Alas I was seduced by another ad campaign, that for Chanel #5. #5 was when I got it through my head these types of perfumes are just not for me.

I can work until 5 o clock, come home and read you tick-ety-tock, and if it's loving you want I can kiss you and give you the shivers, Enjoli" - Fragrance Ad 1980s This was my mother's "secret fragrance". She kept it to herself and never brought it home to be displayed in her dresser table with her Avon and Dana perfumes. She always kept it with her in her handbag and brought it with her to work. At that time she was employed as a maid and housekeeper in some of the loveliest townhouses and penthouses in Manhattan. The fragrance dates from around 1978 but she was wearing it through the 1980's and early 90's. As this was advertised as being the 8 hour perfume for the 24 hour woman, and my mother worked so hard for more than 8 hours, this was the kind of perfume she liked to wear to make her feel womanly and gorgeous, even if she was washing windows and cleaning toilets. This was a casual every day fragrance for a woman to wear to work - whatever work that may be - at the office, a classroom, a court of law, etc, and also wear it when her day is done and she comes home. The lasting power was supposed to be 8 hours but I never confirmed it. My mother eventually told me that it might have lasted for about 6 hours instead. My mother is as big a fan of fragrances and an avid collector as I am. She introduced me to this fragrance recently. They are still selling on ebay although it is largely a discontinued fragrance. I'd already experienced Charlie by Revlon and Rive Gauche by Yves Saint Laurent and to me Enjoli is from the same fragrance family. This is a cheap modern floral for the modern working class woman. It's not fair to call it cheap but the price was always very affordable. The fragrance, however, is absolutely beautiful and smells more expensive. The oak moss gives this scent the aura of a chypre. So if you like chypres and florals, this is very lovely. It's casual and soothing, powdery, womanly, mature, comforting and not abrasive. I was afraid it would be a bit too powerful as it does have all the big whopper notes of aldehydes and lots of flowers, but it's really quite enjoyable as a powdery fragrance. Like Charlie and Rive Gauche, it's an uplifting and easy to wear floral fragrance. At the first spritz of Enjoli my nose picked up on the scent of fresh aldehydes, citrus and peach. It has a traditional fruity floral opening. Sweet, fresh, and very nice. It's not long before those aldehydes have disappeared and the scent turns flowery. There is tuberose but it's bigger on carnation, rose, hyacinth and orchid. I love all these flowers and each are very detectable. It's a bouquet of beautiful flowers. The orris root provides the scent with powder along with the rose which is also powdery. The tuberose is creamy but nowhere near the obscenity of Giorgio Beverly Hill's tuberose. The flowers are sweet, soft, and mellow. It's like floral powder to get you through your day. The dry down is vanillic and woodsy. I smelled vanilla as soon as it began to dry and it's a powdery vanilla. The woods and oak moss are noticeable as well. The cedar and sandalwood take this fragrance back, back a number years before the 70s and 80's, when fragrances were big on woods and chypres were in vogue. It's never too woodsy as to smell of a forest or pine. It's a wood that has to be there to support the flowers. After a while all I smell is pure vanilla with a degree of musk. This is a spring and summer fragrance, it's fresh, it's floral and it's vanilla-scented. It couldn't possibly be mistaken for a unisex fragrance, and it's definitely not for little girls. This is a woman's perfume. I must admit I found the TV commercial to be hilarious as it's so outdated (like this perfume) and almost sexist. "I never let you forget you're a man?" Really? He forgot? And although I admire working class women who can take care of everything: the home, the career, the children, the husband, my modern feminism leans more toward a single woman making it on her own in a man's world. My mother was a very hard working, devoted single mother who raised me and my sister on her own and never remarried after my father ruined the home. My mother's strength, courage, and perserverance always inspired me. I don't think this fragrance has anything to do with the 24 Hour woman, but rather with all women in general. Whethere you're a married lady, single lady, or single mother, this is a perfume for the woman in all of us. We go through a lot and we need not remind men that they're men, but rather remind ourselves that no matter how hard life can be, we are beautiful. I really enjoyed this fragrance and you would too. Enjoli, Charles of The Ritz, vintage, discontinued fragrance. This was a lovely drugstore cheapie that sold as a long lasting floral fragrance for a hard working woman mother and wife, the so-called 8 hour perfume for the 24 hour woman. Dating from the 70's circa 1978 or 1979. I have 2 bottles of this stuff in my collection from years ago. This can be bought on eBay, specifically the 8 hour cologne natural spray. This is a gorgeous aldehyde floral. Off the bottle, this smells like a number of similar aldehyde florals such as Chanel No 5, Arpege, L'Air du Temps, L'Aimant Charlie and Rive Gauche. Of these well-known fragrances, it's probably more like Rive Gauche. YSL Rive Gauche was quite expensive at the time of it's release, so this was the cheaper more affordable drugstore alternative. I first encountered this bottle at a drugstore, I forget which one, in Atlanta Georgia. I wasn't broke or anything, far from it, but the cologne was quite enticing and I had smelled it on a teacher at the school I administered as principal and thought it would be nice to try it on myself. It smelled of hairspray, Aqua Net hairspray, soap, powder and lovely florals and woods/moss/musk. The opening is straight up aldehydes, those in your face aldehyde openings No. 5 and Arpege with a fresh blast of cool air and aromatic chemicals. so much like a good hairspray and I come from a time when I did use hairspray on my big hair in the early 60's. So for me this was a pleasant scent, sort of a beauty salon smell and sometimes like the Avon perfumes that had a similar aldehyde opening of Aqua Net. The subsequent citruses and tangy but it has a fruity note of peach that stands out beautifully. The fruit notes embrace gorgeous florals. I detect plenty of carnation and green florals like lily of the valley, jasmine, and rose. These are the kind of flowers that grow on green bushes. Smells like catching whiffs of rosebushes, lily of the valley and jasmine, not from up close but in passing. Green notes are clearly present in the concoction, a tad herbal, aromatic, similar to the greenery in Revlon's Charlie. These are flowers that are surrounded in plant life. Exotic orchids in a jungle and tuberoses with a hint of chamomile, soothing as a cup of green tea. The fragrance does linger and last the 8 hours it advertised though I never did keep track. They said that in order to market it as a real perfume as opposed to some body spray or fragrance mist, and or to differentiate it from eau de toilettes/colognes. This is a real perfume with as mentioned before aldehydes and florals and dry notes of musk, moss and wood that harken back to classic fragrances. In the dry down, a gorgeous oak moss emerges quickly and it blends with the scents that keep it from turning into floral shampoo. These flowers and laurels rest on bases of vanilla, oak, cedar, sandalwood and they are covered in a blanket of midnight musk, and joined as one by a very distinctive amber. The base notes in this fragrance are what all perfumes should have as base notes! They keep this thing from becoming boring or short-lived. This is an all day perfume to wear when you want to smell really good without making a blunt statement. Even with this many notes, it's a simple, soft, subtle, soapy and powdery very domesticated fragrance. This is the kind of perfume you keep behind your bathroom mirror at home and you don't display it on a vanity dresser table. Not a formal evening cologne. Not glamorous. Not a smoky seductive Oriental. It's a modest and unassuming and very lovely sweet and mature fragrance. Today if you wear it you'll stand out for sure. Though mature it can be worn by females of any age who like vintages and aldehyde florals.

Enjoli A very simple but elegant feminine floral scent I was not familiar with it but I had heard that it was a very mature fragrance similar to CHARLIE by Revlon which I actually like, and also similar to RIVE GAUCHE by Yves Saint Laurent which I like even more. Discovering and wearing multiple perfumes, old and new, is my latest passion and hobby. Fragrances are my friends The first spritz are aldehydes which are very outdated by today's standards but the kind of aldehydic scent I enjoy in my vintage fragrances. These soapy aldehydes are fresh, sparkling, like a breath of fresh air or a charge of electricity. Perfect to wear as you start your day and you're skin is fresh from the shower and ready to wear a scent. I'm aware that this advertised as a perfume for the hard working 24 hour woman, who holds down a job - or possibly more than one job - a career, and has to care for her family: the husband, the children. We women have it a lot tougher then men as we are taking on more than anything one man can take on. I remember when I worked various jobs and perfume always soothed me and comforted me, and lifted my spirits. Like Charlie by Revlon or Rive Gauche, this is a perfume that can make you feel great during your day as it lasts all day, and into your evening for when you take a much deserved break. After the aldehydes settle down, a brief green note emerges that seems to have a floral note of carnation in it. It's a green carnation, like one of those Irish carnations. There is a citrus and peach fruit concoction but it's not the big player because while it can still smell citrusy and peach-flavored, it doesn't last very long as it develops into a deep floral. What flowers do you get ? Tuberose, creamy, buttery, is there early into it's development. In addition, white floral smells of Indian jasmine, purple iris, pink rose, and a hyacinth that smells like it's still in water in the florist shop. This is not a bouquet scent but the fresh-aquatic floral scent, green, watery, and sweet. As the flowers begin to fade, a moss of oak emerges from the depths of the base notes. An oak moss that smells warm and a bit like honeysuckle, spicy and still somewhat floral with an orchid note. There is also woodsy notes. In fact there are woodsy scents of oak that are enough to make it a chypre. Somewhere in the dry down, a creamy vanilla and redolent amber tree is evident. I love amber based perfumes and this is a very well composed amber and woods kind of scent. Beautiful and yet easy to wear. Enjoli is not hard to pull off but it does exude a mature femininity, a motherly aura. I don't see this perfume as youthful and it would smell better on a mother anywhere between 30 and 45. Of course if you're a younger woman who enjoys florals, aldehydes, woods and amber, this should be your cup of tea. It's a vintage classic, not thrilling, not enough to blow your mind, but very pretty and delightful.

I remember this scent very well. No matter where you went you were bound to smell it because it was so popular. It came out during the Feminist movement. The song reflects that. She’s an independent woman who can work to pay for the bacon and can cook it up too. She can take care of her kids and her man’s needs. The commercial was pure camp and very well done. If you think about it, it’s pretty ironic now. The marketing for this perfume was supposed to reflect feminism and a woman's newfound freedom but was really celebrating a 100% increase in a woman’s workload. It was even marketed as the 8-hour perfume for the 24-hour woman. Whew, does this new feminist woman ever catch a break!? LOL! Love the perfume on others but I never wore it at the time because I was too young to wear such a sophisticated scent. I’m wary about trying it now after reading that it might not have aged well. Remembering this fragrance brought back memories and seeing the commercial again gave me a good laugh.

I was surprised to see this staple of the 1970's had no reviews yet, so I took a trip to a local discount store to sample it and refresh my memory. Enjoli was worn by many women my mother's age and by many of my babysitters in the 1970's. It had a very memorable ad campaign: "I can bring home the bacon/fry it up in a pan/and never, never, never let you forget you're a man, 'cause I'm a woman! Enjoli!" (If you're old enough to remember the TV commercial, good luck getting that song out of your head, LOL!) Enjoli is a pretty floral, with notes of green stems and flowers in a vase, on a musky dry-down. Nice, but nothing special. I could only find it in cologne concentration, but it has good staying power for a cologne. Surprisingly, it doesn't smell dated or distinctly of the 1970's, unlike some of the other drugstore classics that are still around, such as Charlie. If you're looking for an inexpensive floral for Spring or Summer, this would be a nice one.

Is this stuff still around? And did they reformulate it, if it is? Because the last time I saw it in a drugstore I spritzed a tiny spritz for old times sake and thought it was very different - it smelled...bitter! Definitely not the heady stuff I sprayed on every day years ago. Bitter!...(last time I wore it was 20 years ago, when my new mother-in-law called me in early December when she was out Christmas shopping. Panting, breathless, she said "quick, tell me, what kind of perfume do you like? What kind do you want for Christmas?" I was speechless, LOL! WTH??? Well, at least I wouldn't be stuck with another bottle of nameless body lotion, lol! So, I said, "I always liked Enjoli" - though I wanted to say Chanel No. 5 or Diorissimo, I named the old fallback, Enjoli, lol.)

I scored a large (4 oz.)? bottle of vintage Enjoli at a thrift store. Like most folks of a certain age I remember seeing the T.V. ads and hearing the tagline " the 8 hour fragrance for the 24 hour woman." Which frankly seems like a lot for any fragrance to live up to. I have been wearing Enjoli at work for the last 2 days and honestly its pretty, floral and well, feminine. it does last 8 hours easily and I have not smelled even remotely masculine so I that and my gender would make me a 24 hour woman, however,I was expecting something sexier considering the ad campaign. My coworker was , as usual, bathed in Elizabeth Taylors Passion and frankly she smelled more exciting than I did.

"Cause I'm a woman...Enjoli!" At 16, you think you're all grown up. A woman. This was my first signature scent. It smelled exactly how I saw myself at the time - strong, fierce, and mature. A little full of myself? More than a little. I was cocky as all get out. You need a big perfume to match an ego that big. Enjoli was that. Feminine and floral - not in an Laura Ashley tea length dress kind of way. Think Ann Taylor pantsuit in the office - with the requisite shoulder pads of the 80s. It lasted a long time and the dry down was very warm and musky. Great perfume. It was my first. And you never forget your first. ;-)

Enjoli is one of my perennial favourites going on 27 years! It is a classic green floral. Very femme. I have vintage perfume, vintage cologne, and the current concentrated cologne. Enjoli has not changed much. I suspect my vintage is smoother because of age not because the current product is different. Packaging couldn't be uglier. I get lots of compliments when I wear Enjoli. Not to mention all the laughs and nostalgia moments when people ask me what I'm wearing, lol!

Most of what I remember about this perfume is the advertising. There was the jingle, sung with a torch song growl in the voice, "I can bring home the bacon/Fry it up in a pan/And never ever let you forget you're a man/'Cause I'm a woman/Enjoli!" And I seem to recall the actress dancing with a frying pan while wearing a power suit with shoulder pads. I'm going to have to track that ad down on youtube and see if I'm remembering it right.

I have a small bottle that was gifted to me by awesomeness. Perhaps mine is missing some of the notes because, in my opinion, this is an Orietal Floral. It has great sillage and lasting power. It is not a light fragrance and seems better suited for cool/cold weather. I think I would put this in the evening category. This is pleasant but I do not think I would purchase more.

I really wish Charles of the Ritz (or whoever owns this now) would put it back in circulation. What a fab frag and even better ad campaign! They could reintroduce the frag in an ad in between mad men episodes. Seriously, I think this was genius it its day and I hate that ebayers are charging so much for what was an $8 drug store scent.

I wore Enjoli just about 30 yrs ago, when I was 13-14. My best guy friend said I smelled "like fabric softener". Oh, the memories. Enjoli reminds me of feathered hair, mohair boatneck puffy sleeve sweaters, liquid roll on cherry flavored lip gloss, and who can forget that infectious TV commercial jingle?! :-)

I remember this from the 70's very well! EVERYONE WORE THIS SCENT along with La Jardan. It's along the lines of Charlie (Cheap N Chic). Enjoli is not bad but not great either. I wouldn't ware for even a day-brings back too many memories for me. Its Ok on someone else but just not me.

I have always remembered that commercial and loved it when my mom would wear it. It was a favorite on her mirrored tray along with chanel no. 5, Georgio, and Shalimar. Don't really remember what the perfume smells like now, but I'm not a fan of the Charles of the Ritz fragrances.

Really liked this back in the day. 1980's. Looks like it's discontinued. Just as I wanted to try it again. And Many are getting rich on E-bay and amazon on Enjoli. Not about to pay the price for it. Sorry I will find a new fragrance.

There were reviews up for this perfume but they "disappeared". I remember there were at least two reviews. *Poof* They are gone.

I haven't had this in many years, but would enjoy it again. The ad campaign was genius for the time.
