As a Chinese individual who grew up with tea, I can confidently say this fragrance captures a genuine tea scent. Unlike something like Wulong Cha—which, despite its name meaning oolong tea, lacks a true tea essence—this perfume excels in authenticity. At first spray, you're greeted with a unique blend of sweet and bright peach notes intertwined with dark smokiness. A subtle tea undertone emerges, seamlessly tying everything together and transporting you to a bustling dim sum restaurant or a lively tea house filled with conversation and the scent of smoking teas. As the fragrance dries down, the exquisite tea note of Lapsang Souchong becomes increasingly prominent, making it irresistible to sniff repeatedly. This scent is creative, long-lasting, dynamic, and photorealistic. It's truly a wonderful creation.

Some of the other reviews mention this being a very sweet, peachy perfume but on me the notes I smell the most of are the tea, smoke, and cacao. There are hints of the peach which is nice as it cuts through the otherwise mildly bitter makeup of the other notes, but it is not overwhelming. The tea itself is very photorealistic, if you like the smell of actual tea in a bag there's no doubt you'll like this. The sickly sweetness described in the other reviews seems to just be up to body chemistry, but despite this I am sure this is a general crowd pleaser.

This is for a fairy who hosts tea parties in her little pine fairy forest.... she puts on a fire and boils the water for the tea, lights the incense, puts out the peach jam for little treats, and invites all her fairy friends. This is so incredibly lapsang souchong.... so smoky and dry with that pine quality!!!! and the peach gives it this wonderful jaminess that sweetens it juuust so. if you love camping and the quickly dwindling art of tea spreads at camp then this is for you!!!!!

strong bitter peach that I really enjoy, not super sweet and has some nice complexity with the smokey cocoa and wood in the background. almost distracting to spray it on my own wrist because I just spend all day sniffing my arm instead of whatever else I'm meant to be doing lasts ages and has good sillage - i can spray it before work and still notice it projecting even after i get home really really love, one of my all-time favourites

Something about this scent is so addicting to me. To me, this isn't supposed to represent what tea smells like, but what the atmosphere of a very smoky and old teahouse smells like, where the workers are older and have stories to tell. The tea is somewhere being prepared in the background, not right in front of you. Very woody and smoky while having very sweet undertones - I love it.

when I first sprayed this i was like, "oh, its a whiskey/tobacco/vanilla" perfume. only to get on here and find that none of those are listed notes?? But that gives you the general vibe; this is not a tea scent at all. its smokey, sweet, rubbery, and peachy. my ex said that it smells like the print studio they work in...

Such a beautiful masterpiece. I don’t get the cough syrup that others say they get. I do get a slight rubber feel to it tho. This might be my next pickup, gonna have to do some thinking. Edit: I ended up buying it lol

Strangely comforting and addictive. A beautiful incensey, smokey black tea and cedar scent. If you like Eucalyptus 20, I think you’ll enjoy this.

Private Teahouse is a fragrance I can definitely appreciate, even if it isn’t quite my style. While I’ve never experienced a traditional private teahouse myself, I can absolutely see the vision Chasing Scents was aiming for. To me, it smells incredibly reminiscent of temples in Laos and Thailand. The incense and woods are the stars of the fragrance, evoking the scent of countless incense sticks burning inside a wooden temple. The peach adds a gentle sweetness that reminds me of fruit offerings placed on family ancestor altars, creating a beautifully nostalgic atmosphere. There’s also a subtle medicinal quality that brings Tiger Balm to mind, though it’s smooth and well blended rather than sharp. I can pick out each of the listed notes, but they melt together seamlessly into a cohesive fragrance. I’d consider it truly unisex, though it leans slightly masculine on my skin. Personally, I prefer something a little fruitier, so I’ve been layering it with a brighter fruity fragrance to soften the incense and wood while keeping its depth. Although it isn’t something I’d wear often, it’s a scent I genuinely admire. It’s evocative, nostalgic, and thoughtfully composed, and I think it captures the atmosphere it sets out to create remarkably well.

I like this scent more when I stop thinking of it as a black tea scent, and instead as a "teahouse" scent. it reminds me strongly of a place I visited as a child--after a long day walking with my dad in the big city, we went upstairs to a small Chinese history museum run by an old auntie. this scent smells like the walls of that place, and the memory that's lingered with me for years since. it's super smoky for sure--like the years of cigarettes that the auntie's husband smoked into the furniture, the sepia-toned portraits of women in fashionable qipaos, and the hundreds of cups of tea she served to all the visitors who were probably not there for the obscure, out-of-the-way museum. it's pretty strong, and not for me to wear often--but I'll definitely pull it out once in a while for the specific types of nostalgia it gives me. to me, it's an art scent :)

Sampling this on card at a store, it smelled distinctly like motor oil. Amused to see from other reviews I wasn't the only one transported to an engine bay or mechanic. On my skin however it's far more consistent with the quoted notes of smoky tea and cedarwood. Immediately off the spray I smell whisky, which quickly gives way to smoke and resin, eventually settling on smoke and wood. The smoke has a hint of greenness to it and is quite pleasant and incense-adjacent. I get a little cola-ish sweetness underneath that I wish presented more clearly. Might also be part of the labdanum rounding it out. It also sits fairly close to the skin, unfortunately. Definitely tea*house*, not tea.

Not your typical fresh tea scent. Smokey woods and tea with a fruity twist. Evokes stepping into an old antique furniture store to escape the cold rain, with tea brewing and glazed peaches caramelising over a fireplace. The smoke is strong and has a dryness from the cacao, but the tart sweetness from the peach, and bitterness from the tea balance the smokiness from becoming overbearing, with the cedar acting as the anchor to it all. It's a cozy and welcoming escape.

If you like some smoke in your fumes then this is your jam! The smoke in this is like you're sitting in front of a massive bonfire with a cup of tea. It's a surprisingly natural scented fragrance with everything that does go on here. The drydown does see the smoke back off a bit and sweeten up a smidge. Enjoyable if you like some complexity in your fragrances.

I found this very enticing--warm, cozy, well blended. Doesn't really read as a tea scent to me, which is a good thing. The woods, labdanum and cacao are more prominent. Fruit is there but I don't know that I would have guessed peach if I couldn't look at the notes.

I don’t really smell any tea — it’s dominated by a strong smoky scent. At first, it’s smoky cocoa, then it gradually turns into smoky peach. The peach isn’t fresh, juicy, or succulent, but more like a candied or dried peach.

There's a weird rubbery kinda accord in this that I don't care for. The initial blast is really challenging, and then it settles into a smokey tea and, yeah, rubber. I think it's the sap note? Not great.

Smells like chocolate being burnt on a cedar bonfire. There's some underlying sweetness but I get zero peach. Has some incense quality. It's a bit confusing. Has the potential to be cloying. Not for me.

I am surprised no one has figured Lattafa Wajood is 1:1 clone boasting 5x longevity. Funnily, I have both of them and low key regret getting the way more expensive Private Teahouse.

there's something very medicinal about this, smells almost like cough syrup to me, sickly sweet, syrupy, rubbery smoked wood, i almost get no tea in this.

Lots of smoke, ink and woods. lapsang souchong tea. I get little to no peach. This could be absolutely stunning and appealing on the right person.

Immediate headache for me. Acrid green-brown smoke. Bitter hay moving aside to reveal a fruity, dry cocoa. My husband bought a decant of this and disliked it on himself, so he gave it to me. I disliked it on myself as well, but he thought it smelled better on me. The drydown (mostly that haylike note, which reminded me of maybe imortelle) lasted more than 12 hours. Not my favorite.

A sweet tea opening gives way to a black tea heart mixed with a smokiness that together smells like a tire shop to my nose. Individual facets of this fragrance are pleasant, but to my nose this isn’t well blended and the dense, rubbery quality had me wanting to scrub it off.

I tried to like this, I really did, because I wanted to appreciate the artistry - but it smells bitter and musty and it makes me feel sick. I don't like Tea Service either because it has a bitter licorice-like note that this has too. I love Rain Tea, but the others are really not for me.

Smells different at different temperatures and unfortunately the summer day temperature version is awful. cool: tea. warm: minty and just a little stale. hot: awful horrible chemicals. scrubber.

Intensely smoky tea with a hint of fruitiness at the start that quickly becomes lost in the smoke. Not so much burnt rubber to me, more like petroleum.

Bought a little sample and it made the whole room smell like burning medicine. The smoky notes are strong and nauseating. Had to throw it away.

Top notes are all juicy "peach flavour" joy held against a darker, dry, woody, slightly smoky black-tea base. It has the tang of tannins but maintains a touch of something 'wet' about it - the slight bitterness of strong tea blended with the steam gently rising from the surface. I know the brand imagery is of a private getaway, of tea ceremonies tucked away in a mountain landscape... to me, though, peach and black tea brings to mind a go-to bubble tea order. The hint of dry smoke does bring it down to something earthier but it still makes me crave peach jellies. I really hoped the peach would stay of the life of the fragrance but it's gone by the middle phase, and what remains is an unceasing base of dry dusted cacao over a tea-tinged wood. I've seen a whisper of the same base in Bodhi Language by 4160 Tuesdays and Pale Fire by Apoteker Tepe - which are in no ways the same fragrance, but are the only ones that came to mind when I was trying to work out where I'd seen this base before. It's potentially the cacao bracketed by norlimbanol (or something similar) and it lasts forever. I really, really love the opening of this and I'm debating the idea of a full bottle based on that alone, but I also really feel the absence of the peach in the later half of the fragrance. Despite that I'm fairly certain this will end up as a winner for this brand (and it deserves to be!). (Black tea & peach will likely cause some people to wonder about the similarities to Kiste by Slumberhouse and I can say with firm certainty that they're not the same fragrance. Kiste is spiced, drunk honey peaches stewed on a late summer afternoon, all rustic golden light. Private Teahouse is a reserved black tea first and foremost, all elegance and clean lines. The peaches aren't drunk and stewed but rather crisp and clear, and the black tea in this is unsweetened).

I’m in love with my sample of this! I have & love “Tea For Two” & Gucci Pour Homme 2 which are the same & happen to be in my top 12 out of almost 300 I have Kerosene’s Unknown pleasures in which I’ve never had that type of tea, But love it as well!! This is a description of niche perfumery in my opinion. Either love or a hate, Prob account of the smoky rubber especially in the beginning. I myself love it & it doesn’t stay regardless. This reminds me a lot of the infamous Slumberhouse Baque that I want more than anything! I’m kinda reminded a bit of Comme Des Garçons Black which is on my wish list as well..I as a man found I cannot do many scents I’ve sampled containing peach, But no worries with this one, For its no more than peach tea with these resinous smoky spices..It’s 30 ml But can only assume from my sample it’s strong, & for one who has more than a few fragrances, $115 at Luckyscent is a no brainer for me

The least interesting fragrance from Chasing Scents so far. This scent offers nothing new. It opens reminding me strongly of Comme des Garsons EDP. But this one is much more relaxed and easier to the nose thanks to the sweetness that soften all the harsh spiciness & salty dry wood in CdG Edp. As the scent progresses, Serge Lutens' 5 O'clock au Gingembre / Feminine du Bois smelling profile emerges, a little thicker with a very very little cacao undertone. The scent finishes with something recalling the base of Mugler Pure Wood. Overall, the scent offers a nice woody spicy and comforting experience, just not unique enough. Sillage is significantly weaker than other scents of the house - maybe it is because my sample is dap on, not spray.

If you’re looking for a typical tea scent (I.e: Nishane’s Wulongcha) this is not it. However, if you’re looking for a specifically Lapsang Souchang scent, this definitely hits the spot. The beginning is very true to the smoky dry scent reminiscent of a freshly brewed Lapsang Souchang —which is known for its smoky almost peaty scent. On my skin, Private Teahouse drys down to a slightly malt sweet, incensy scent that sticks to you heavily. The sweetness is mild compared to the smokey incense I get. Personally a bit too heavy and cloying for tropical weather, however it smells beautiful paired with cigarette smoke. overall: 7.5/10

Oof what a heavy hitter! It's like putting your nose into a bag of very fancy black tea leaves. I get a lot of smoke and almost burnt rubber on the dry down which I absolutely adore because it provides great contrast with the sweet notes. It reminds me of this herbal Chinese medicine tea that came in these tiny green boxes that I drank as a kid. Super intriguing fragrance that is worth getting a sample. It is not for the faint of heart and definitely not a safe blind buy!

Even the sample was a waste of money. I dowsed myseld in this and could not smell it on me/around me. Only when I put my nose to my wrist can I smell it and I get an artificial smoke scent with only and a teeny tiny bit of peach/sap/cacao/etc hiding behind it. It.smells chemically and is not enjoyable/cozy/comforting whatsoever. I like my daring niche scents (even the ones others consider 'gross') but this does not have a single redeeming quality.

beautiful fruity resinous smokey scent. not usually into bushfire type smoke or incense like Fahrenheit or by the fireplace, but I can do with this. very well blended and balanced, nothing overpowering. if you're looking for something unique definitely get your nose this. my favourite of the line. not blind buy safe.

Is the tea in the room with us? Fr though, this is straight up a smoky, charcoal, burned to a crisp perfume with hints of gasoline or some sort of gas. I tried it on my skin and I tried it on my paper. Not my cup of tea. I imagine that this is what the industrial boom on New York once smelled like.

To me this isn’t a tea fragrance at all, but rather an incense one. To my nose, it belongs with Comme des Garçons’ incense series. I wish I could feel the peach, but all my nose perceives is smoke. A beautiful smoke, but not much more than that.

If you like wood and smoke in a fragrance, you will love this, as I do. It’s very evocative of a temple or other holy place. The sillage is wonderful - as is the longevity. Does what it says on the tin :) instant love.

Went from loving to hating to loving it. The opening and deep dry down are very nice. Mid not so much. I don’t find this all that Smokey. I mostly get peach and woods
