Santalum

Oh, Santalum. Santalum is just... everything. That slightly iris-y, perfumey edge that I often find off-putting, is simply swoonable here. It's a kiss, a soft-focus pat of powdered skin, an intimate moment of femininity. Powdery, yes, but not at all antique—more like the delicate veil of something familiar and romantic. And the sandalwood, that's the crème de la crème. Silky—that doesn’t even begin to cover it—like liquid velvet poured over warm, sunlit, enrapturing wood. It has this gentle, savory undertone that sneaks in every now and then too—not overwhelming, and just the ideal touch to add a cozy gourmand depth, like a steamy turmeric milk, full in body and cream. Mostly, oh mostly, it’s in the woods. A soft, comforting warmth that wraps round you, never sharp, always tender. Always tender, always plush, maybe a little yummy, and always luxurious without the being any cold. Just... everything.

I have only just received this after sampling it months ago in a store. I also bought Ode to Dullness by JHAG. Comparing them side by side is an interesting experience, them both being Sandalwood fragrances. Santalum is much more effervescent, floral and sweet, despite none of the notes hinting at that. To me Santalum is a very cosy, clean, feminine take on Sandalwood. It is much more complex than I would have thought from other reviews. It has that woody undertone that makes it feel comfortable yet sophisticated but it also smells like laundry fresh from the dryer, crisp clean linen and expensive yet understated bodylotion. It is inoffensive but evokes pictures of put together women in smart casual attire. I can see myself wearing this a lot. The opening is surprisingly refreshing with it settling into a creamy, quiet, feminine sandalwood that is a perfect daytime, office scent.

It is more sophisticated & more refined than cedrus & Santal 33... airier spice. I agree with person commented as i tested it & now keep on thinking if i get full bottle.

Soft, slightly sweet and predominantly lactonic sandalwood.

There isn't much to say, tbh. It's definitely sandalwood, with it's sweet, creamy qualities. It's a bit powdery, too, and that's all. The good thing is that, it's not one of those sickening sandalwood scents, everything is in moderation here. It's not at all a complex scent, but that's not always a bad thing. Very weak on my skin so, for the price they're asking, hum, not sure it's worth it! If you like sandalwood, this is something you need to check out, just don't expect fireworks, it's a very simple scent, but it's also nicely done.
